Abstract Objective This study evaluates the effectiveness of a dalethyne dressing for decreasing bacteria in diabetic patients with infected foot ulcers. Methods This study was conducted from March to September 2018 with a sample of 30 participants from the outpatient Kitamura Wound Clinic in Pontianak City, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental non-equivalent pretest–posttest control group design was used for the study. Participants were divided into two groups: an intervention group (treated with a dalethyne dressing) and a control group (treated with a standard dressing). Two trained research assistants collected the data using the Wagner wound classification system and a bacteria counter. The assistants swabbed each wound surface with sterile cotton, and the swabs were used to conduct a bacteria culture and count. Results The study population was 50% female and 50% male with no significant differences between each other in age, HbA1c, blood pressure, or ankle-brachial index (ABI; P > 0.05). Both groups had a significant reduction in the number of bacteria from the pretest to posttest (P < 0.05). Mann–Whitney analysis of posttest data indicated a significant difference in bacteria reduction between the control group (median = 2.25) and the intervention group (median = 7.6; P = 0.018). It was noted that Staphylococcus aureus was found in the control group at posttest, but not in the intervention group. Conclusions This study provides evidence that a dalethyne dressing is effective for killing S. aureus in the infected foot ulcers of diabetic patients.

Background: Constipation is one of the most common problems in stroke due to inactivity and immobility. Objective: To compare one hour and every two-hour turning regimens in the prevention of constipation in patients with stroke. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental research with pretest posttest with control group design. There were 39 participants assigned in intervention group (n=17) and control group (n=22). The intervention group turned every one hour, while control group turned every two hours. The turning regimen was implemented for five days. A bowel score was used to measure constipation. McNemar Test and Fisher Test were used to measure and compare the bowel score between the two groups. Results: There was no significant difference in the effect of two turning regiments on constipation (p > .05). However, based on a descriptive result, there was a slight decrease in the number of constipation from 47% to 29.4% in the intervention group, and from 32% to 27% in the control group. Conclusion: Turning might still become an effective way to prevent constipation in patients with stroke either every one hour or two hours without diet modification.

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is also known diabetes, as a chronic disease which will trigger various complications both microvascular and macrovascular. This is what leads diabetes patient to have high risk of low self-efficacy. Low of self-efficacy causes a decrease in self care. Therefore, to improve the patient’s self-efficacy is changing their mindset. Bibliotherapy is a treatment using written materials to guide and encourage the patients to challenge unhelpful thoughts. This research aims at discovering the influence of bibliotherapy on self-efficacy of diabetes patients. Methods: This is a quantitative research using quasi-experimental with control group design. The number of samples in this research is 40 respondents, consisting of 20 intervention groups and 20 control group by simple random sampling method. The sample in this research is diabetes patients with such inclusion criteria as (1) 36-60 years of age, (2) having the ability to read well, (3) willing to be a research respondent. Meanwhile, the exclusion criteria are (1) diabetes patient with weak condition, (2) experiencing loss of consciousness, (3) having visual and audio problems, and (4) diabetes patient with mental disability. The intervention group undergoes bibliotherapy for 8 session, each session for 60 minutes. The Diabetes Management Self Efficacy Scale (DMSES) to determine the total score of self-efficacy.Results: Most respondents are middle-aged adults (36-55 years) in both groups. Most respondents have suffered from diabetes for less than 5 years, unemployed and tend to have normal BMIs and also obese category 1. The mean score post test in intervention and control group is 37.00 and 25.65 respectively. The results show that there are differences in self-efficacy scores after treatment in control and intervention groups (p=0.000).Conclusions: From our study we concluded that bibliotherapy could improve self-efficacy in diabetic patients.

Kata Kunci : Demam Berdarah, Maya Index, pelatihan, pengendalian vektor   ABSTRACT Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) caused by Dengue virus could cause death. The most appropriate prevention of Dengue is eradication of mosquito nests (PSN). This study aims to determine the effect of Dengue vector control training on elementary students towards Maya Index in Majalengka. Method: This study used quasi-experimental design (pretest-posttest control group design). A total of 4 schools were selected as intervention groups and 4 other schools as controls. The subjects were students in grades IV-VI consisting of 171 students in the intervention group and 163 in the control group. The instrument used was periodic larva monitoring form. Results: The number of houses with a high Maya Index category in the intervention group decreased from 27.5% to 9.4%. There was a decrease in the high BRI category in the intervention group from 20.5% to 1.8%. In the control group, there was no decrease in the high BRI category (22.1%), on the contrary, there was a decrease in the low category from 34.4% to 3.7%. There was no decrease in HRI rates both of intervention or control groups. Conclusion: Dengue Fever vector control training could decrease the value of BRI and Maya Index, but does not affect the value of HRI. The absence of changes in HRI  indicate that environmental hygiene and sanitation are factors that influence the probability of dengue fever occurrence. Keywords: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, Maya Index, training, vector control
