Poetry can be a device that is rich in meaning in responding to any issues, including pluralism issue. The aim of this research is to elaborate students’ attitudes expressed in their poem on pluralism issues in Indonesia. This research is also conducted to identify and group the responses into three attitudes: positive, negative, and neutral, and into five hybrid categories proposed by Steven G. Yao: Cross-fertilization, Mimicry, Grafting, Transplantation, and Mutation. The research is conducted in five private universities in Jakarta and Tangerang: Bina Nusantara University, Pamulang University, Nasional University, Indonesian Christian University, and Indonesian Al-Azhar University. The result of the research shows that out of 153 poems, most students (65%) have positive attitude toward pluralism. While 16 % of them have negative attitude and only 19% of the respondents have neutral or ambiguous attitude. Interestingly, 36 students (23.52%) use the word “tunngal/one” as a metaphoric medium to express their response, while 33 (21.56%) students use colors to represent their thoughts, 28 students (18.30%) use “bhinneka / diversity” to show their responses, and there are 10 students (6.53%) use “rainbow” to signify pluralism issues. There are strong metaphors found effective in reflecting the students’ ideas such as garden, music, jar, batik, Garuda, salad, and sandals. The strong metaphors, studied in Yao’s hybridization, show all the five degrees of hybrid interaction: two cross-fertilizations, one mimicry, three graftings, three transplantations, and three mutations. It is concluded that the students have positively owned a high degree sense of nationalism in responding to Indonesian plural realities.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine attitudes towards and perceptions of plagiarism among medical students in Saudi Arabia. Methods: This cross-sectional, multicentre study was conducted between April and May 2018 and involved medical students enrolled in three medical schools in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The previously validated Attitude Towards Plagiarism questionnaire was used to evaluate approval (i.e. a positive attitude) and disapproval of plagiarism (i.e. a negative attitude) among medical students. Furthermore, this study evaluated whether attending medical writing courses or courses in medical ethics influenced medical students’ attitudes towards plagiarism. Results: A total of 551 students participated in the study (response rate = 73.5%). A significant association was found between mean negative and positive attitude scores and grade point average (GPA; P = 0.004 and 0.007, respectively). Students attending medical ethics courses had higher mean negative attitude scores compared to students who did not attend such courses (odds ratio = 2.369, 95% confidence interval: 1.540–3.645; P <0.001). Attending medical ethics courses was associated with a significantly more negative attitude towards plagiarism (P <0.001, each). Conclusion: The majority of medical students in Saudi Arabia included in this study indicated a highly negative attitude towards plagiarism. A higher GPA, the authoring of a published manuscript and attending courses in medical ethics were associated with negative attitudes towards plagiarism among medical students. Keywords: Plagiarism; Attitude; Cross-Sectional Study; Medicine; Medical Students; Saudi Arabia.

Social tendency to distance various forms of social interaction, including learning, is intensifying in the times of highly developed information and communication technologies. Online communication of teachers and students — in chats, online forums and conferences — becmes an alternative to traditional learning. During the quarantine related to the COVID-19 pandemic, distance learning (DL) was introduced in higher education institutions of Ukraine. The aim of the present study is to reveal the characteristics of students’ motivation for distance learning within the pandemic. Following methods were used for this purpose: the author’s questionnaire «Attitude to Distance Learning in Higher Education»; the method of «Eductional Motviation in Higher Education» by T. I. Ilyina, «Method of Diagnosing Personality for Motivation to Avoid failure» (by T. Ehlers), «Method of Diagnosing Personality for Motivation to Succeed» (by T. Ehlers). The empirical study continued throughout July-August 2020. The survey of students’ attitudes to DL showed three types of such attitudes: 48 % are positive about distance learning, 30 % are neutral, and 22 % are negative. Diagnosis of motivation to get higher education in students with different attitudes to distance learning revealed following trends: the highest rate of motivation to acquire knowledge is observed in students with a positive attitude to DL; the motive for obtaining a diploma dominates among students with a negative attitude to DL. High levels of motivation to succeed do not depend on the type of attitude to DL. The dominance of high levels of motivation to succeed compared to low levels of motivation to avoid failure is inherent in students with a positive attitude to DL. Significant differences were found between the parameters of «motivation to succeed» and «motivation to avoid failure» (p> 0.05) among students with a neutral attitude to distance learning. Thus, based on our empirical observation, we noted the correlation between the type of attitude of students to DL and their motivation to avoid failure, and the lack of such correlation between the type of attitude of students to DL and their motivation to succeed.

Although euthanasia has been practiced for thousands of years, a wide controversy still exists around it. This study aimed to assess the attitude of university students toward euthanasia and its associated factors. The study included an online self-administered survey. Survey questions consisted of demographic information, psychological condition, and attitude toward euthanasia. A total of 1,188 students participated in the study. Approximately only one-third of the respondents (34.1%) viewed euthanasia as a moral practice, and just one-quarter (25.3%) supported legalizing it. The main reason for not supporting euthanasia was religious considerations (72.2%), followed by moral considerations (46.5%). Factors that predicted a positive attitude toward euthanasia (p < .05) included undefined religion, being male, feeling lonely, or having suicidal thoughts. Conclusively, the negative attitude toward euthanasia is primarily driven by religious beliefs. Furthermore, gender and psychological status play critical roles in students’ attitudes toward euthanasia.
