Pineapple is a perennial fruit-bearing tropical plant that belongs to the Bromeliaceae family, which has more than 2500 species. Pineapple is known excellent source of minerals and vitamins. It produces substantial calcium, potassium, glucose, the proteindigesting enzyme bromelain, fibre, vitamin A, B and C. In Malaysia, twelve registered varieties of pineapple have been introduced and commercially planted such as Moris (AC1), Sarawak (AC2), Gandul (AC3), Maspine (AC4), Josapine (AC5) Yankee (AC6) Moris Gajah (AC7), N36 (AC8), MD2 (AC9), View of Sunset (AC10), Madu Kaca (AC11), and Keningau Diamond (AC12). The disease is one of the important factors that can contribute to the huge losses of pineapple yield worldwide. This review paper aimed to discuss the main diseases of pineapple and their control management, particularly in Malaysia. The common diseases of pineapple that cause significant yield losses in the farms such as mealybug wilt-associated virus, bacterial heart rot, fruit collapse, butt rot, fruitlet core rot, black rot, yeasty and fusariosis are highlighted and discussed in detail on the causal pathogens, disease symptoms and signs, disease infection and development. The available control measures for managing pineapple diseases were also included in this paper.

: The prevalence of primary hypothyroidism is increasing in adults (PHTA), and the reduction in the threshold for treatment and also the requirement to increase drug usage are major problems in approaching this disorder. Persian Medicine (PM) looks from a different view on etiology of diseases. Therefore, we tried to present the etiologies of PHTA according to an important book of PM i.e. “Zakhire Kharazmshahi”. Method: At first, the common symptoms and signs of PHTA were identified by investigating the Medline, Scopus, and Cochrane databases and their Persian equivalents were extracted from PM sources. These synonyms were searched as keywords in the book and the primary causes that were mentioned in association with the signs and symptoms were extracted. Then, we explained the total etiologies that were discussed for the occurrence of the causes, with respect to the principles of health care in PM. Results: "Cold distemperament", an increase in "Phlegmatic Humor ", an increase in "Melancholic Humor" and "Emtela" (repletion) were recognized as four main causes of PHTA. According to the book, the most important etiologies of these conditions are insufficient exercise, overeating, food intake before total stomach emptying and excessive amounts of cold temperament substances (foods, herbs, seeds, spices, etc.) in daily diet. Conclusion: From the viewpoint of PM, lifestyle spatially eating habits and physical activity play important causative roles in occurring and prognosis of PHTA. Hence, it is recommended to assess these results by more observations and clinical studies.

<p class="apa">This study aimed to detect the common diseases among Saudi women and their relationship with the level of physical activity and some variables. This study was applied to 1233 Saudi woman in different regions of the Kingdom, and adopted to explore the common diseases: obesity, hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol and asthma.</p><p class="apa">The study results showed the existence of a statistically significant relationship between the common diseases among Saudi women and the variables of educational level, the nature of the profession, the social status, the justification of the practice of physical activity, the rate of participation in physical activity per week, the practice of physical activity in relation to asthma and the number of children with regard to obesity.</p><p class="apa">The study provided a number of recommendations including: the need to strengthen the role of culture in promoting physical activity by women, through health education via the health centers in the Kingdom.</p>

Heart failure has been defined in many ways and definitions change over time. The multiplicity of definitions reflect the paucity of our understanding of the primary underlying physiology of heart failure and the many diseases for which heart failure is the common end-point. Fundamentally, heart failure represents a failure of the heart to meet the body’s requirement for blood supply for whatever reason. It is thus a clinical syndrome with characteristic features – not a single disease in its own right. The syndrome includes symptoms and signs of organ underperfusion, fluid retention and neuroendocrine activation. The syndrome arises from a range of possible causes of which ischaemic heart disease is the commonest. From the point of view of a clinician, the underlying pathology will determine treatment options and prognosis. The extensive range of possible aetiologies present a diagnostic challenge both to correctly identify the syndrome amongst all other causes of dyspnoea and to identify the aetiology, allowing optimization of treatment.

Cervical disease is one of the common diseases, it occurs in women and has a growing tendency. In particular, cervical cancer is one of the most common diseases. The disease can be cured if it is detected early and treated under the guidance of a physician. The usual cervical examination methods are biopsies, and colposcopy. Recently, many studies have applied imaging techniques in the analysis and evaluation of cervical pathology characteristics [1-3]. In this study, we improved the traditional colposcopy with a polarized light source, and captured images with high resolution. Based on the image obtained, we developed image processing algorithms, initially analyzed and evaluated some of the common features of cervical disease

The basic infection rate of bunchy top disease in established bananas averaged 0.0342 new infections per infectious plant per day, but varied seasonally with a maximum in summer. The mean distance of spread for the aphid vector was 15.2 m. The latent period was 59.8 days and correlated with the time required for the growth of 3.7 new banana leaves. A microcomputer program was written to simulate spread of banana bunchy top disease in space and time. In the absence of disease control, disease spread from an initial primary infection in July or January to 124 or 153 infected plants, respectively, in one year. When disease control was maintained by removing diseased plants whenever the number of infected plants exceeded a given threshold, the numbers of diseased plants detected each inspection were positively correlated with the infection threshold, but the numbers of inspections required to maintain control increased markedly as the infection threshold was decreased. A practice of removing apparently healthy plants within 5 m of plants detected with bunchy top disease symptoms in five or more leaves was found to locate about 30% of the remaining undetected infected plants when disease was first detected in a plantation. However, its use as a routine control measure was ineffective in reducing the number of inspections required to maintain control or in reducing the risk of disease spreading to adjoining plantations. Removal of apparently healthy plants within 5 m had some bearing on disease control when applied around plants with disease symptoms in two leaves or less, but also caused a significant loss of healthy plants.

The authors present the results of the collection’s formation of some ornamental shrubs, long-term phenological observations of them and the selection of the best forms and breeding hybrids in the Left-Bank Lisosteppe of Ukraine. In particular, the characteristic of the vegetation of 20 varieties of common lilac collection is given. The estimation of the terms and duration of the crop flowering enable to divide its varieties into groups of early, average and late flowering. The high decorative value of most of the strains has been described as well as their resistance to low temperatures and pests. The additional analysis of the latest literature data has shown the significant yield of aromatic substances in the common lilac plant, with the predominance of alkanes and lilac alcohol. The results have been presented of 70 rose cultivars of adaptation to the growing zone conditions. There are 20 promise varieties of the crop, which are characterized by high decorative value, resistance to pathogens and low temperatures and duration of flowering. The characteristics of the new variety of roses of the floribunda group – Olexandra has been given created by the authors. Along side with the high decorative value, different types of the rose plant provide the significant yield of aromatic substances with the domination of alkanes, monoterpenes and 2-phenylethanol. The analysis of the literature data also has shown the presence of aromatic substances in the jasmine and mock-orange plants. The first is characterized with esters based on benzene, cis-jasmon and isophytol, the second – with some sesquiterpenes and epi-13-manol. The further research included the phenological evaluation of the of white cedar and juniper collection. The best selected forms were characterized with decorativeness, resistance to frost, pests and pathogens. The literature data have shown, that the aromatic complex of the crops cultures includes mainly monoterpenes and their derivatives – alcohols and ketones. As a result, it was concluded that it is necessary to expand research with ornamental bushy crops in the direction of evaluating of their aromatic properties.

Systematic surveillance is the first and integral step of all infection control measures, especially in intensive care settings. Surveillance systems started evolving in developed countries nearly 40 years ago. With experience and wisdom gained, the surveillance methods have improved and become more standardized. It is now clearly recognized that all patients are not at equal risk. For fair comparisons over time within an unit and in between units, the denominator must take the underlying risk into account. Infection surveillance in the NICU presents a number of unique challenges regarding definitions and differing symptoms and signs in the neonate. Although the importance of surveillance is being increasingly recognized in our country and the methods of developed countries are being adopted, there are numerous issues which need local research. This is in view of the limited manpower and financial resources and different profile of organisms and their epidemiology.

This chapter introduces computational methods for detecting complex disease loci with haplotype analysis. It argues that the haplotype analysis, which plays a major role in the study of population genetics, can be computationally modeled and systematically implemented as a means for detecting causative genes of complex diseases. In this chapter, the author provides a review of issues on haplotype analysis and proposes the analysis system which integrates a comprehensive spectrum of functions on haplotype analysis for supporting disease association studies. The explanation of the system and some real examples of the haplotype analysis will not only provide researchers with better understanding of current theory and practice of genetic association studies, but also present a computational perspective on the gene discovery research for the common diseases.

The gall bladder chapter describes conditions and diseases of the small organ of the gall bladder. The common diseases of the gall bladder are described with the more frequently presenting symptoms listed for the nurse. The occurrence rates of these pancreatic conditions are defined and any potential causes described. The investigations that are used to diagnose the condition are explored. Treatment options or preventative measures are also explored with a description of any potential complications. There are a number of conditions and diseases related to the gall bladder that include primary sclerosing cholangitis and gallstone. Inflammation of the gallbladder, cholecystitis may be acute or chronic. Succinct details related to people with diseases and conditions of the gall bladder are easy to use by the nurse within clinical practice.
