This research aimed to see if learning by teaching (LBT) could really be implemented in classrooms. This case study intended to discover if LBT was applicable to teach tenses. This quantitative research involved 50 students from the two of 8th grade classes in one junior high school in Jakarta, one of which acted as the control group and the other one as the experimental group. This research focused on the learning of five tenses, namely the simple present tense, the simple past tense, the simple future tense, the simple present continuous tense, and the simple present perfect tense. A pre-test was employed before the research started and after the treatment had been given to the experimental group, a post-test was given a week after, and another post-test was given three months later. The results show that LBT helps the subjects learn better. Moreover, they also remember their materials longer. Therefore, LBT can be a good student-centered activity which has been proven successful.

The background of this research is that learning that takes place is monotonous and conventional, students are still not used to using Indonesian properly and correctly. Students prefer silence and tend to be passive when learning takes place. The achievement of learning Indonesian is still not optimal. Students who exceed the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) set by the school are still far from what is expected. In this study, researchers used experimental research. Data collection tools used in this study were tests and observation guidelines. From the results of the data collection tools used, the researchers concluded: 1) There is a difference in the ability to retell the contents of the fable between the class that applies the reflective articulation approach and the class that applies direct learning to class VII students of SMP Negeri 5 Singkawang, namely the experimental group obtained scores of 84 and 78 control group. 2) The effect of the articulation reflective approach on the learning outcomes of retelling the contents of the fable in class VII students of SMP Negeri 5 Singkawang. Based on the Pearson value between the score to retell the contents of the fable and the ability value of 0.50. 3) The implementation of the articulation reflective approach to the learning outcomes of retelling the contents of the fable to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Singkawang. The results of the implementation of the average score obtained were 95.3 for the first meeting and 100 for the second meeting in the high or very good category.

This research was designed to find out the effects of vocabulary analogy to reading comprehension of seventh grade students of State Junior High School 9, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Specifically it sought to answer the following questions: 1) How is the effects in reading comprehension of the students taught with  Vocabulary  Analogy  or  without  vocabulary  analogy?  2)  Is  there  a significant difference in the reading comprehension between the control and experimental groups based on the pre-test and post-test results? A test was conducted for control and experimental groups before and after the treatment process. T-test was computed to reveal whether there was a significant  difference in  the pre-test  and post-test results of the control and experimental groups. Findings of the research were: 1) The use of vocabulary analogy improved students’ reading comprehension 2) The computed T value based from the results of pre-test in the control and experimental groups is 0.130,  lower  than  T  tabular  value  of  1.996.  This  result  accepts  the  null hypothesis that there is no significant difference in the results of pre-test of control and experimental groups. Moreover, treatments were given to control and experimental groups after the pre-test, control group was taught without vocabulary analogy and experimental group was taught with vocabulary analogy before the post-test for each group. The computed T value in the post-test of the control and experimental groups is 11.15, higher than T tabular value of 1.996 at5% level significance. This result rejects the null hypothesis that there is no significant difference in the results of pre-test and post-test of control and experimental groups. Based on findings, the following conclusions were drawn: 1) The use of vocabulary  analogy  had  significantly  influenced  students’  reading comprehension particularly of the experimental group 2) There is significant difference in the post-test results of the control and experimental groups. Null hypothesis was rejected since the computed T value was higher than the T tabular value.

The aim of the research was to investigate effects of monensin controlled-release capsules on production and metabolism in early lactation cows, with relation to the time of administration of monensin. The study was performed in 2014 (from 01/05/2014 to 01/10/2014) at a Lithuanian cattle farm having 500 dairy cows. Four experimental groups were applied as follows: 1) Group 1 (G1) control (no supplementation, n  =  20); 2)  Group  2 (G2) with supplementation of monensin (32.4 g monensin controlled-release capsule (MCRC), n = 20). Both groups were on 30th day before expected calving; 3) Group 3 (G3) control (no supplementation, n = 10); 4) Group 4 (G4) with supplementation of monensin (32.4 g monensin controlled-release capsule (MCRC), n = 10). Both groups were on day 1 post partum. Group 2 (G2) received MCRC 30 days before calving, Group 4 (G4) 1 day after calving. Experimental and control cows received the same diet and were exposed to the same environment and management conditions during the entire experimental protocol. Blood samples were collected from the coccygeal vessels: G1 and G2 cows from day –30 (before expected calving, prior to supplementation), each day, up to 30 days post partum; G3 and G4 from day 1 post partum, each day, up to 30 days post partum. Blood serum was tested for beta-hydroxybutyrates (BHB) and glucose concentration. The daily milk yield was measured electronically (DairyPlan C21, Westfalia Surge Inc., GEA). Milk was sampled once monthly. Samples were analyzed for contents of fat, protein, lactose, urea, and somatic cells count. The BHB concentration decreased more efficiently after the supplementation of MCRC after calving. After supplementation with monensin on the first day after calving, it has been identified that the BHB concentration in serum of experimental group (G4) cows statistically significantly decreased after 3 days (p < 0.05). During this period, the average BHB concentration of control group (G3) cows was 0.414 (±0.05) mmol/l, while the BHB concentration of experimental group (G4) cows was 0.27 (±0.03) mmol/l. Statistically significant differences between the experimental and the control groups were observed during the entire study (p < 0.05). After calving, cows supplemented with monensin showed statistically significant higher production of milk (p < 0.05) than the control group. Statistically significant differences in the blood glucose and BHB concentration, quantity of milk and production average between two experimental groups (G2 and G4) were not identified.

The objective of the present research was to assess the dietary supplementation of three formulations of essential oils (EO) in chickens under heat stress (HS). Day-of-hatch Cobb 500 chicks (n = 500) were randomly distributed into four groups: 1. HS control + control diets; 2. HS + control diets supplemented with 37 ppm EO of Lippia origanoides (LO); 3. HS + control diets supplemented with 45 ppm LO + 45 ppm EO of Rosmarinus officinalis (RO) + 300 ppm red beetroot; 4. HS + 45 ppm LO + 45 ppm RO + 300 ppm natural betaine. Chickens that received the EO showed significant (p < 0.05) improvement on BW, BWG, FI, and FCR compared to control HS chickens. Average body core temperature in group 3 and group 4 was significantly (p < 0.05) reduced compared with the HS control group and group 2. Experimental groups showed a significant reduction in FITC-d at 42 days, a significant increase in SOD at both days but a significant reduction of IFN-γ and IgA compared with HS control (p < 0.05). Bone mineralization was significantly improved by EO treatments (p < 0.05). Together these data suggest that supplemental dietary EO may reduce the harmful effects of HS.

Study Design: Animal experimental model. Objective: To study the clinical behavior and histological changes in the spinal cord, nerve roots and perivertebral muscles of the spine after induced leakage of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) loaded with antiblastic drugs during vertebroplasty in an animal model of pigs. Methods: We performed vertebroplasty on 25 pigs. The animals were divided into 3 groups: vertebroplasty with PMMA alone (control group), vertebroplasty with PMMA loaded with methotrexate (MTX) and vertebroplasty with PMMA loaded with cisplatin (CYS). At 2 vertebral levels, epidural and prevertebral, massive cement leaks were induced. Animals were evaluated daily. Two weeks later, the pigs were sacrificed, and the tissues that came in contact with the cement were analyzed. Results: The clinical results for each of the groups were reported. The control group had no clinical alterations. In the MTX group, 2 pigs died before 1 week due to pneumonitis. In the CYS group, 4 animals had motor impairment, and 3 of the 4 had paraplegia. The histological results were as follows: the control and MTX groups showed synovial metaplasia, inflammatory reaction, crystal deposits, and giant cell reaction in the dura mater and muscle and all the animals in the CYS group had spinal cord and muscular necrosis. Conclusions: Massive cement leak after vertebroplasty with PMMA loaded with cisplatin is extremely toxic to the spinal cord and muscles around the spine. Therefore, its use cannot be recommended for the treatment of vertebral metastases. Using PMMA loaded with methotrexate seems to be a safe procedure, but further research is needed.
