Tiger grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) hatchery at the household scale has contributed to the increase in national grouper seed production. The main problem in tiger grouper cultivation is the availability of superior seeds. Where superior tiger grouper seeds must have fast growth, be resistant to new environments, low FCR, have perfect morphology and be resistant to. Superior seeds of tiger grouper can be seen from the value of Survival Rate (SR), where superior seeds will have a much higher SR when maintained. The purpose of this study was to determine the Survival Rate of tiger grouper hatchery in household-scale hatcheries located on the North Coast of Bali as the main parameter and water quality as a supporting parameter. Methods of data collection is done by using 4 ways: survey, active participation, observation, and interviews. Survival rate data analysis was carried out by performing calculations based on the SR calculation formula and analyzed descriptively. The results of observations of water quality are classified as good for the value of Salinity (33-35 ppt), Temperature (28-29.4 oC), and DO (6-6.5 ppm). While the pH value can be said to be not good for tiger grouper hatchery and rearing with a pH value of (7.3-7.4). The result of the calculation of the Survival Rate is 20% with a total of ± 24,000 seeds. From the percentage of survival rate, it can be said that the survival rate of tiger grouper larvae in this household-scale hatchery is still low. However, it should be noted that a low survival rate in grouper hatcheries does not always affect the value of profits and losses of a grouper hatchery business.

Transport in water is the most common method for achieving high survival rates when transporting cultured fish in China; yet, transport success relies on proper water quality and conditions. This research was designed to explore the effects of ascorbic acid and β-1,3-glucan on survival, physiological responses, and flesh quality of farmed tiger grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) during simulated transport. The transport water temperature for live tiger grouper was 15 °C, which had the highest survival rate, the lowest stress response, and metabolic rate, and this will reduce the susceptibility to diseases. It is stated that β-1,3-glucan influences the changes of cortisol content, heat shock protein 70, IL-1β, and IgM transcription levels during simulated transport. Rather than using ascorbic acid alone (the A-group), β-1,3-glucan (3.2 mg/L) in the presence of ascorbic acid (25 mg/L) can effectively reduce the increase of transport-induced serum cortisol content, heat shock protein 70, and IL-1β, but stimulated IgM. 25 mg/L ascorbic acid and 3.2 mg/L β-1,3-glucan had no obvious effect on the nutritional indexes and flavor of live tiger grouper; however, these can effectively reduce the stress response, improve the innate immune activity, and ensure a higher survival rate.

This study on the north coast of New South Wales, Australia, evaluated the effect of irrigation and defoliation management over summer, pasture type and seedbed preparation on production and survival of a perennial ryegrass pasture over an 18-month period from sowing. In a relatively dry summer, irrigation sufficient only to keep plants growing, increased production of ryegrass plus clover from 2826 to 5515 and 3210 to 5396 kg DM/ha in summer and the subsequent autumn/winter, respectively, and increased survival of ryegrass plants by 34%. The more summer active Olwen white clover/NZA895 perennial ryegrass combination had a 16% higher production in summer, but a 11% lower production in winter than a Haifa/Yatsyn sward. The difference in production was entirely due to the clover component of the pasture. DM yield in the first growing season for the ryegrass/white clover pasture was equivalent to applying 20 kg N/ha/month to a pure ryegrass sward. In the subsequent summer/autumn/winter, the yield of pure ryegrass pasture was well below the ryegrass/white clover swards at any rate of N application. There was no difference between survival of NZA895 and Yatsyn ryegrass or incursion of summer grass into their respective plots. Plots defoliated over summer at 6 cm, as opposed to 12 cm, stubble height yielded 54% more edible DM and resulted in a 65% higher ryegrass plant survival rate. There was no effect on summer grass incursion. Multiple cultivations appear to be the key to appropriate seedbed preparation, with this treatment achieving the highest ryegrass survival rate, lowest summer grass incursion and highest DM yields.

AbstractCantik grouper is hybrid grouper, it is the results of a crossover between females tiger grouper and males batik grouper. One of the problems in breeding cantik grouper in common is the growth of early stadia juvenile cantik grouper is slow. This problem could be solved by added taurine in the feed to increase the growth of juvenile cantik grouper. The purpose of this research is to find the influence of the addition of taurine in the feed on the growth and survival rate of juvenile cantik grouper. This research used completely randomized design (CRD) method with three treatments, which is giving taurine to feed with 0 % (P1), 0.5 % (P2) and 1 % (P3) concentration given to the juvenile cantik groupers and the treatment has been repeated six times. The results of breeding for 45 days showed that the addition of 1 % taurine in feed give the highest growth than other treatment and differs markedly ( p<0.05 ). The addition of 1% taurine gives no different result with the control variable (0% taurine).

An experimental culture trial of wild juveniles of jewfish Epinephelus itajara was conducted in two different places in the north coast of Colombia in order to evaluate the growth rate of the species and its tolerance to captivity conditions. Two different groups of fish were evaluated in each place, one fed on an artificial diet and the other on trash fish. All fish were held in floating cages for periods ranging from 63 to 89 days. Results showed excellent individual daily weight increase (6,83 and 12,4 g/day) and specific growth rate (1,4 y 0,96 %/day) for fish fed on trash fish in both places but conversion ratio was too high and inadequate (9,01 and 9,97). Trials with the artificial diet gave negative results because the fish didn’t accept the pellets satisfactorily. During the culture period the fish showed great tolerance to manipulation, disease resistance and adaptability to extreme fluctuations in water quality (O2 = 0,9-7,1 mg/L; salinity = 7-37). Sacrifice and processing of the fish indicated that in order to meet best market standards fish should be grown-up to a final weight around 1,9 kg to obtain two whole and skinned fillets of 280 g each. It is concluded that the jewfish has important advantages for its culture like a fast growth rate and a great tolerance to extreme fluctuations in water quality. Main limitations for commercial culture are the absence of technology for hatchery seed production and the lack of an artificial diet with the presentation, palatability and composition required.

Several types of grouper hybrid seeds can now be massively produced in a hatchery. Hybrid seeds can increase diversification of aquaculture species and potential to increase fish production. Therefore, an improvement in hybrid seed production both in high quantity and quality is very important. This research was conducted to produce massively cantik grouper hybrid seeds i.e.,a crossbreed between female tiger grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) and male marbled grouper (Epinephelus microdon). This research examined the cantik grouper seed production compared with the production of tiger grouper and marbled grouper fingerlings. The research results showed that cantik hybrid grouper seeds production had higher survival rate (24.59%) than tiger grouper (17.44%) and marbled grouper (4.63%). The total length of the seed at the age of 45 days for cantik grouper was 3.59 ± 0.21 cm, tiger 3.24 ± 0.55 cm, and batik 2.61 ± 0.42 cm, respectively. Seed abnormality for cantik grouper was 4.13%, tiger grouper 30.21%, and marled tiger 0.57%, respectively.
The grouper fish culture was developed after its succesful seed production in hatchery well known. In grow-out culture grouper, the protein requirement and feeding rate have to know well in order to understand the effectiveness on feed utilization . The experiment was designed by factorial design with the first factor as 3 dietary protein (36%, 42%, 48%) and the second factor as 3 feeding rate ( 1,5%, 2,0%, 2,5%). Ten of juvenile tiger grouper (102, 51-102, 73 g of body weight) were stocked in 27 polycarbonate tanks with 400 l volume each. Each tank was equiped with aeration and flow-through water system. Fish was fed three time per day i.e. 08:00, 11:30 and 15:30 Central Indonesia Standard Time for 16 weeks. Every week was measured body weight, survival rate, and feed quantity. The parameter used in this experiment were weight gain, spesific growth rate, feed efficiency and survival rate. The results of the experiment showed that the combination of protein level (36%, 42%, 48%) with feed ratio (1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5%) gave response on growth, weight gain and survival rate. Combination dietary protein level of 48% and feed ratio 1.5% gave higher weight gain and survival rate with values of 104.05 ± 5.89% and 96.67 ± 5.57 %, respectively.

Keywords: Dietary protein and feeding rate , growth, tiger grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus)
