Chronic kidney failure may contribute to the diminished quality of life of African American women who care for adults affected by the disorder. Few studies document the quality of life of these caregivers. For this descriptive correlational study, caregiver demographic, caregiver burden, depressive symptoms, family functioning, and quality-of-life self-report data from 75 African American women were extracted from an existing database. Ferrans’ Conceptual Model of Quality of Life guided the selection of study variables. Several significant associations were found. Caregiver education, employment status, marital status, and caregiver burden explained 63% of the variance in the caregivers’ quality of life. Findings support the need to explore further and design interventions to improve the quality of life of working African American women supporting individuals with chronic kidney failure.

This review article summarizes the problems of metabolic disorders and nutrition imbalances that often occur in chronic kidney failure (CKF) or following regular dialysis treatment. In this survey, we cover the pathogenesis of these disorders, their clinical consequences, and their association with the most severe complications of chronic kidney failure and dialysis treatment. These complications are primarily atherosclerosis, malnutrition, anemia, hyperparathyroidism, and other serious problems that markedly and negatively affect prognosis and the quality of life of uremic patients. Risk factors for cardiovascular disease are discussed in-depth because cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in patients with chronic kidney failure. It is important to pay attention to the development of these complications because early diagnosis and therapy can improve the prognosis for these patients and reduce treatment costs.

ABSTRACT : Background : Hemodialysis is a process in which blood is separated from harmful substances or poisons and excess fluid is then discharged through a dialysis device. Quality of life is a quality that is felt in everyday life one of which is the physical dimension, namely the impact of anemia experienced by patients. Purpose : to identify the relationship between anemia and quality of life in patients with chronic kidney failure who underwent hemodialysis for less than 6 months. Method: quantitative research design with analytic survey through a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all patients with chronic kidney failure who did hemodialysis at the Rasyida Kidney Hospital in Medan. “The sample in this study amounted to 40 respondents with purposive sampling. Researchers requested laboratory results for the patient's hemoglobin level in the patient's medical record, and then the patient filled out a WHOQOL quality of life questionnaire”. Results: Patients with chronic kidney failure who underwent hemodialysis <6 months, the majority were male 26 people (65.0%), aged> 50 years (50.0%), married 38 people (95.0%), high school education was 17 people (42.5%), and had 14 self-employed jobs (35.0%). The majority experienced not anemia as many as 16 people (40,0%) and the majority experienced poor quality of life as many as 22 people (55,0%). Conclusion : Chi Square bivariate test results there is “a relationship between anemia and quality of life in patients with chronic kidney failure who undergo hemodialysis less than 6 months with a p-value of 0.002”. Keywords: Anemia, Quality Of Life, Chronic Kidney Disease, Hemodialysis INTISARI : HUBUNGAN ANEMIA DENGAN KUALITAS HIDUP PADA PASIEN GAGAL GINJAL KRONIK YANG MENJALANI HEMODIALISIS DIBAWAH 6 BULAN DI RUMAH SAKIT KHUSUS GINJAL RASYIDA MEDAN Pendahuluan : Hemodialisis merupakan proses dimana darah dipisahkan dari zat atau racun berbahaya dan cairan berlebih kemudian dibuang melalui alat dialysis. Chronic kidney failure is a decrease in kidney function and chronic nature which may require replacement irreversible kidney dialysis therapy accompanied on the final stages of kidney failure. Therapy hemodialysis is a replacement therapy for removing the remains of the metabolism of the human blood circulation that will affect the quality of life. Factors that affect the quality of life, among others, age, gender, occupation, education, frequency of Hemodilaisa, long Hemodialisa, chronic renal failure stage, and relationship with the nurse. This research aims to know the description of the quality of life in chronic renal failure patients at the Hemodialysis Room Wijaya Kusuma Hospital Purwokerto. The type of this research is quantitative descriptive research with methods cross-sectional. Sampling using accidental sampling. The respondents in this study as many as 94 patients. Instrument in this study using questionnaire KDQOL SF 1.3 to measure the quality of life of patients with kidney failure. Quality of life in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy at the Wijaya Kusuma Hospital Purwokerto is largely good in quality of life (73.4%). Mostly on the age group 45-60 years as many as 39 quality of life patients either (41.5%), mostly male-sex that is as much as 41 patients living quality good (43.6%), educational background of patients most life is good-quality secondary education group 35 patients (37.2%). The work of most of the patients already not working with a total of 44 patients (46.8%), quality of life is good and the length of time patients undergoing therapy at the most hemodialysis time is under 12 months with quality of life good as much as 26 patients (27.7%).

Dialysis is a therapy that aims to remove waste and excess fluid from the body. This method replaces the main function of the kidney. Two types of dialysis are known, namely Peritoneal Dialysis and Hemodialysis. Patients with chronic kidney failure are faced with these two treatment options. Both types of dialysis therapy have a risk of complications during the treatment period that can affect the quality of life of patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in dialysis methods of patients with chronic kidney failure with CAPD (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis) and hemodialysis in terms of quality of life as a basis for palliative care. The research design uses a cross-sectional comparative analytical research design. The independent variable is the action of hemodialysis and CAPD. The dependent variable is quality of life.

Background: Quality of life becomes an important parameter that is needed for assessing the clinical outcome of patients undergoing long-term therapy for chronic diseases, such as chronic kidney failure. Short Form-6 Dimension (SF-6D) is one of the generic instruments that can be used to assess health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The psychometric properties SF-6D test in hemodialysis patients in Indonesia has never been conducted. Objective: Aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of SF-6D questionnaire in Indonesian version in patients with chronic kidney failure. Methods: This is an observational study with a cross-sectional design involving 117 patients who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the hemodialysis unit in Dr. Sardjito Central General Hospital and UGM Academic Hospital Yogyakarta. Results: The SF-6D questionnaire has good internal consistency, as seen in Cronbach's alpha value of 0.771. In this study, the ceiling effect test showed 6.8% (< 15%). The measurement of convergent validity was carried out using Spearman rho to analyze the correlation of the questionnaires and see its correlation with other instruments (KDQOL-SF36). Based on the research, the correlation coefficient value of 0.768 (> 0.75) indicates very good result for a strong correlation. The SF-6D instrument was able to distinguish the quality of life with a significant value (p < 0.05) in age, occupation, and comorbid groups. Conclusion: SF-6D questionnaire is valid and reliable, so it can be used to measure the HRQOL of hemodialysis patients. The mean SF-6D utility score of hemodialysis patients is high (0.7975 ± 0.1488).
