Among many global problems of mankind, a special place is occupied by the phenomenon of pandemics. A pandemic has been one of the constant companions of human existence since ancient times. This is evidenced by both the texts of religious and mythological orientation, and recorded events in historical life. Pandemic is always an emergency that threatens the very existence of humanity. Various circumstances are heard as the causes of pandemics: sacred (violation of divine laws), domestic (unsanitary conditions of existence), civilizational (technocratic human intervention in the environment), political, economic, etc. The purpose of this article is to study the effects of pandemics that have occurred in different historical periods and their impact on the development of society and the economy. Based on this goal, the objectives of the article are to study the world economy in a pandemic COVID-19; to analyse the trends and forecasts of its further development, including Ukrainian economy; to offer an assessment of the main opportunities and risks of the functioning of Ukraine’s economy in quarantine. This article reveals the theoretical and practical principles of the pandemics impact on global economic development. The result of the article is the statistical analysis of pandemic impact on the world economy, which leads to the rupture of economic chains and slowing down the economic and social development for several months or even up to one year. As a conclusion it may be noted, that since periodic pandemics have become an integral part of human life, no country in the world is safe from their direct or indirect impact and, as a result, countries must be economically ready to provide strict measures according to the formula “combating the epidemic – minimizing the negative effects in the short, medium- and long-term periods”. Practical implications. The main theoretical propositions, the authors’ conclusions presented in the article, are supposed to form a methodological basis in substantiating the priorities of the state support of business in conditions of pandemic and quarantine restrictions. Value/originality. The proposed results can be used for modeling and forecasting the impact of quarantine restrictions on the economic development of countries.

The article assesses a significance of the most important component of the agreement on accession to the WTO, namely the agreement on trade-related investment measures (TRIMs), in increasing the attractiveness of developing countries to investors from abroad. In addition, traditional determinants of FDI placement, such as the macroeconomic stability, trade openness, and economic development, are considered. The authors carry out an analysis in the field of regulation of TRIMs by the example of economic policies in developing countries. The study shows that the extent to which TRIMs contributed to achieving the goals varied significantly, reflecting the specific economic and political conditions of the country using them. In some cases, they played a role in encouraging foreign companies to make more use of local sources or increase their exports from the host country. In other cases, the impact seemingly was negligible.

PurposeThe main purpose of this study is to make a comparative evaluation of the impacts of previous outbreaks and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on the tourism industry. COVID-19 appears to have disrupted all memorizations about epidemics ever seen. Nobody has anticipated that the outbreak in late December will spread rapidly across the world, be fatal and turn the world economy upside down. Severe acute respiratory syndrome, Ebola, Middle East respiratory syndrome and others caused limited losses in a limited geography, thus similar behaviors were expected at first in COVID-19. But it was not so. Today, people continue to lose their lives and experience economic difficulties. One of the most important distressed industries is undoubtedly tourism.Design/methodology/approachThis study is a literature review. In this review, a comparative evaluation between the impact of previous outbreaks and COVID-19 on the tourism industry has been made based on statistics and previous research studies.FindingsThe information and figures obtained show that COVID-19 and previous outbreaks have such significant differences that cannot be compared. COVID-19 has been one of the worst to live in terms of spreading speed, the geography where it spreads, loss of lives and negative effects in the whole area.Originality/valueIt is noteworthy that COVID-19 is very severe in terms of death cases and also its impacts on the economy compared to other pandemics. It remains to be argued that COVID-19 can also be a reference in terms of possible new outbreaks in the future, and is an effective actor in determining future strategies.

At the present stage the world economy is characterized by the process of increasing the interdependence of national economies, which is due to the stagnation of commodity markets, economic crises around the world and the presence of negative financial trends. The process of increasing the interdependence of national economies is based, among other things, on national selfishness, which is manifested more and more often. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a temporary break in financial and economic ties and relations, which in turn leads to significant changes in both the Russian and global economy as a whole. At present, the question of the possible duration of the pandemic and the quarantine measures imposed because of it remains open, but it is obvious that the impact is not just an interruption of the activities of the national economy or an increase in the burden on budgets due to the increase in additional costs. We are talking about the formation of a new type of economy.

In the article the influence of globalist processes, widely developing in nowadays world, are analyzed. Because of that the art becomes to be a tool of reach countries to have the right of domination in a world space. Authors argue about positive and negative sides of globalization in this text. The main objective of this paper to analyze in detail the impact of globalization on the world economy. The paper presents the analysis of the nature of the process of globalization in the modern world. Globalization has been analyzed in the following interdependent aspects: economic, territorial. Here are main reasons of globalization. The paper presents two main directions to define of globalization in terms of the behavior of nation-states in the global geopolitical environment. The paper presents the positive and negative influences of globalization on the world economy and national economies in the world. Special attention is paid to the problems associated with globalization for the different states. Globalisation is an incessant process, which lasts a lot of years, but problems, associated with it. Autor dispute among themselves about globalisation and can't create a single definition of this process. Autor argue about positive and negative sides of globalisation in this text. Necessity of formation of uniform economic, legal, information and technological space for realization of free and effective enterprise activity of all subjects of managing has led the Ukrainian economy to to transformation of integration economic processes in a new system condition - globalization of economic communications.

Globalized challenges of the world economy have created an objective need for Ukraine to develop in the face of the country’s lack of preparedness for global competition and integration. The development of the economy of Ukraine in the context of globalization is taking place in a context of incomplete systemic socioeconomic and political transformation and poses problems related to the optimal integration of the economy of the country into the global economy. At the same time, the impact of globalization processes calls for new theoretical approaches to justify the structural transformation of a country’s economic development model. The directions of globalization for national economies are quite complex and contradictory. Globalization is deepening specialization and cooperation globally and the international division of labor. International competition stimulates the development of innovative processes and state-of-the-art technologies through technology transfer among countries of the world. The current model of development in Ukraine is characterized by significant deformations of the economy: fragmentation of technological space, excessive social differentiation, increased poverty, unemployment and a reduction in the population, The Russian Federation is a country with many countries, which have been affected by human-made environmental degradation and overload, the shrinking of the domestic market and the national economy, the rise of the shadow economy, the rise of corruption, etc. All this points to a structural imbalance in the Ukrainian economy. The further intensification of globalization processes will exacerbate the problem of national identity, The solution of which many countries see the strengthening of State influence on international economic cooperation through the introduction of protectionist measures in the areas of trade, migration and investment, that in turn will contribute to the strengthening of geo-economic and geopolitical tensions in the world. In this context, there is a need to establish new principles for world economic stabilization and development.

In the economy of Russia after the crisis of 2008–2009 systemic changes were occurred. In the period before this crisis, Russia experienced economic growth, which was faster than the growth rate of the world economy, then after the crisis, economic growth rates do not exceed the growth rates of the world economy. To identify the reasons and factors for changing the model of economic development of the country, a project for researching the economy before and after the crisis of 2008–2009 is proposed. It is proposed to receive quantitative assessments of the impact of economic, socio-economic, political factors and other significant factors that determine productivity, differing by region of the country, by building econometric models of productivity in the form of expanded production functions.

AbstractScientific works (starting from 1873) of famous economists and political philosophers based on theoretical/philosophical considerations about the preconditions of changes on world economy of scope stipulate the inclusive analysis of factors which possibly influence the challenges of society and economy in the 21st century. It is very modern to claim that manifestation of globalisation is the origin of all changes. The European Commission states that about one-fifth of the increase in the economies of EU countries over the past 50 years depends on integration of the world economy, that is, globalisation. Taking this into account, the article presents theoretical considerations about the possible impact of globalisation on Europe’s economic development. Three scientific problems are raised: Does globalisation affect economic growth and how could this process be managed? Which are the derivatives of globalisation that influence positive changes in a country’s economy? Is it possible to eliminate or diminish the effect of the more negative aspects of globalisation? Among the research methods used in the article are theoretical comparative analysis of the scientific works, and analysis of legal documents as well as strategies and practical papers in this field. The article also presents three tasks: to systematise arguments presented in existing scientific works (theories) as well as in EU initiatives considering the phenomenon of globalisation, to highlight the tendencies in Europe’s economic development that are associated with globalisation, and to present recommendations for managing the influence of globalisation to the development of EU’s economy. The article presents systematised arguments of published scientific works (theories) as well as EU initiatives considering the phenomenon of globalisation. The impact, positive as well as negative, of globalisation on the development of economy is highlighted and the criteria for the manifestation of globalisation is systematised. This instrument could be used to assess the impact of globalisation on economic development
