scholarly journals Statistical study of changes in motor quality (speed) following a moderate beer consumption

2021 ◽

Background and objectives: Beer consumed in moderation (330 mL/day for women and 660 mL/day for men, up to 5% alcohol) may have certain benefits for the human body, due to natural ingredients, but especially due to important sources of protein, fiber and antioxidants. According to specialized studies, beer consumed in moderation can have beneficial effects on the body. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on 50 subjects selected based on characteristics such as age, height, weight and not after exercising or doing physical activities. All research subjects benefited from two evaluations (initial and final), consisting of: physical examination, EKG examination, body hydration analysis, adipose tissue analysis, muscle tissue analysis, heart rate analysis and speed motor quality. These analyses were performed daily for a period of seven days, both for the initial and the final evaluation (a total of 14 days of assessments). Results: Between the two evaluations, subjects consumed 660 mL of beer with up to 5% alcohol daily (WHO recommended dose) for 30 days. The results obtained (at the initial and final evaluation) were inventoried and statistically processed using statistical programs. It was found that moderate beer consumption (660 mL of beer with up to 5% alcohol) daily for a period of 30 days can lead to an increase in body hydration, a decrease in adipose tissue as well as an increase in muscle mass. In addition, a decrease in heart rate was observed after physical activity (short running on 100 m), which leads us to a better adaptation of the body after intense physical effort. Discussion and conclusion: Moderate beer consumption (660 mL/day for men, up to 5% alcohol, WHO recommended dose) can have beneficial effects on body hydration, adipose and muscle tissue, and better adaptation of the body after intense physical effort.

The lack of adequate physical activity and obesity created a worldwide pandemic. Obesity is characterized by the deposition of adipose tissue in various parts of the body; it is now evident that adipose tissue also acts as an endocrine organ capable of secreting many cytokines that are though to be involved in the pathophysiology of obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome. Adipokines, or adipose tissue-derived proteins, play a pivotal role in this scenario. Increased secretion of proinflammatory adipokines leads to a chronic inflammatory state that is accompanied by insulin resistance and glucose intolerance. Lifestyle change in terms of increased physical activity and exercise is the best nonpharmacological treatment for obesity since these can reduce insulin resistance, counteract the inflammatory state, and improve the lipid profile. There is growing evidence that exercise exerts its beneficial effects partly through alterations in the adipokine profile; that is, exercise increases secretion of anti-inflammatory adipokines and reduces proinflammatory cytokines. In this paper we briefly describe the pathophysiologic role of four important adipokines (adiponectin, leptin, TNF-α, and IL-6) in the metabolic syndrome and review some of the clinical trials that monitored these adipokines as a clinical outcome before and after exercise.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the effects of strength training on renal and cardiac hypertrophy induced by the renovascular hypertension in rats. Method: Eighteen male rats were divided into three groups: sham, hypertensive (2K1C) and trained hypertensive (2K1C-TR). The animals were induced to renovascular hypertension through ligation of the left renal artery. Strength training was initiated four weeks after the induction of renovascular hypertension, had the duration of 12 weeks and was performed at 70% of one maximum repetition. At the end, it was measured blood pressure, heart rate and parameters of renal and cardiac hypertrophies. Results: Strength training promoted reduction in heart rate (p=0.0025) and blood pressure (p=0.01). In addition, training decreased the absolute masses of the kidney (p=0.0001) and heart (p=0.006), and the indexes of renal and cardiac hypertrophy, both normalized by the body mass of the animals (p=0.0001 e p=0.001, respectively) and by the length of the tibia (p=0.004 e p=0.0004, respectively). Conclusion: Strength training has beneficial effects on renovascular hypertension in animals, being able to reduce blood pressure and heart rate, attenuating the development of renal and cardiac hypertrophies in rats with renovascular hypertension.

Abstract: The objective of the elaboration was to assess the degree of physical load in direct start preparation (DSP) during preparations of disabled sitting volleyball players for the Polish championships.: Players of the “Start” Sports Club of the Disabled in Wroclaw who play sitting volleyball professionally participated in the study. The subjects of the study were men aged 17 to 53 (average age: 31.9); they have been playing sitting volleyball for 2.5 to 33 years. Twelve sitting volleyball players with various disabilities concerning uni- and bilateral amputation within the lower leg and thigh, with malformation and short lower limbs participated in the study.: The study involved assessment of the exercise capacity of sitting volleyball players during 7 training units in introductory and intensifying micro-cycles within DSP. Heart rate results at six moments (at the beginning, in the 10: Years of training significantly correlated with age of the participants. The participants were characterized by significantly lower resting heart rate in the intensifying micro-cycle than in the introductory microcycle which may result from adaptation of the body to physical effort. The largest differences in average heart rate values at the considered moments of training units in training micro-cycles within DSP were observed in the measurement of resting heat rate and final heart rate. Standard deviation in the introductory micro-cycle and the intensifying micro-cycle within DSP was growing in a linear manner, except for the peak heart rate index. Resting heart rate significantly impacted the value of heart rate during training units within DSP.Volleyball players participating in the study were characterized by significantly lower resting hear rate in the intensifying micro-cycle than in the introductory micro-cycle within DSP which may result from adaptation of the body to physical effort. The lowest percentage difference of the average heart rate value occurred in the assessment of final heart rate, while at the remaining moments of training units heart rate values reached the same percentage value. The course of regeneration in both compared micro-cycles (DSP) was similar and it did not vary significantly. Restoring the value of resting heart rate occurred after more than 15 minutes after training.

The diagnostics of the condition of athletes has become a field of special scientific interest and activity. The aim of this study was to verify the effect of a long (100 km) run on a group of runners, as well as to assess the recovery time that is required for them to return to the pre-run state. The heart rate (HR) data presented were collected the day before the extreme physical effort, on the same day as, but after, the physical effort, as well as 24 and 48 h after. The Wavelet Transform (WT) and the Wavelet-based Fractal Analysis (WBFA) were implemented in the analysis. A tool was constructed that, based on quantitative data, enables one to confirm the completion of the recovery process that is related to the extreme physical effort. Indirectly, a tool was constructed that enables one to confirm the completion of the recovery process. The obtained information proves that the return to the resting state of the body after a significant physical effort can be observed after two days entirely through the analysis of the HR. Certain practical measures were used to differentiate between two substantially different states of the human body, i.e., pre- and post-effort states were constructed. The obtained results allow for us to state that WBFA appears to be a useful and robust tool in the determination of hidden features of stochastic signals, such as HR time signals. The proposed method allows one to differentiate between particular days of measurements with a mean probability of 92.2%.

Introduction. An osteopathic examination determines the rate, the amplitude and the strength of the main rhythms (cardiac, respiratory and cranial). However, there are relatively few studies in the available literature dedicated to the influence of osteopathic correction (OC) on the characteristics of these rhythms.Goal of research — to study the influence of OC on the rate characteristics of various rhythms of the human body.Materials and methods. 88 adult osteopathic patients aged from 18 to 81 years were examined, among them 30 men and 58 women. All patients received general osteopathic examination. The rate of the cranial rhythm (RCR), respiratory rate (RR) heart rate (HR), the mobility of the nervous processes (MNP) and the connective tissue mobility (CTM) were assessed before and after the OC session.Results. Since age varied greatly in the examined group, a correlation analysis of age-related changes of the assessed rhythms was carried out. Only the CTM correlated with age (r=–0,28; p<0,05) in a statistically significant way. The rank dispersion analysis of Kruskal–Wallis also showed statistically significant difference in this indicator in different age groups (p=0,043). With the increase of years, the CTM decreases gradually. After the OC, the CTM, increased in a statistically significant way (p<0,0001). The RCR varied from 5 to 12 cycles/min in the examined group, which corresponded to the norm. After the OC, the RCR has increased in a statistically significant way (p<0,0001), the MNP has also increased (p<0,0001). The initial heart rate in the subjects varied from 56 to 94 beats/min, and in 15 % it exceeded the norm. After the OC the heart rate corresponded to the norm in all patients. The heart rate and the respiratory rate significantly decreased after the OC (р<0,0001).Conclusion. The described biorhythm changes after the OC session may be indicative of the improvement of the nervous regulation, of the normalization of the autonomic balance, of the improvement of the biomechanical properties of body tissues and of the increase of their mobility. The assessed parameters can be measured quickly without any additional equipment and can be used in order to study the results of the OC.

AbstractBackground: The purpose of the following research was to find out the influence of imaginary training based on intention implementation on throw effectiveness of young basketball players, both male and female in stressogenic situations. Individual differences (action vs state orientation) between players were also measured in this research.Material/Methods: 76 players (32 females and 44 males) in the cadet category (15-16 years old) from basketball clubs of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot took part in this research. In the first stage all players did a throw efficiency test ERPE 05 under two conditions, and their heart rate was measured. Then players were randomly assigned to one of two groups. The first one did imaginary training based on the influence of intention implementation for 10 days, while the other did not. After 10 days ERPE 05 test under two conditions was run again. Results: Test results showed that intention implementation does not influence effectiveness improvement in stressogenic conditions as far as state-oriented players are concerned, but it does lower the physiological cost of physical effort in form of a decreased heart rate. Conclusions: This research proves that visualization training based on implementation instructions does influence young players’ physiology and significantly lowers their heart rate under stressogenic conditions. However useful, visualization techniques used in this research still need other tests and should be applied for a longer period of time to acutely show how they affect young players’ mental preparation

The constantly growing interest in the development of new non-invasive and cuff-free methods for measuring the parameters of cardiac activity, the use of which would give the possibility of continuous and remote monitoring of the cardiovascular system, determines the relevance of this work. Numerous publications continue to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of various methods of early diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. However, motion artifacts are a strong hindrance to the accurate assessment of the performance of the cardiovascular system. One of the promising control methods is the method for assessing physiological parameters using photoplethysmography. This article is devoted to the development of a device for photoplethysmographic studies and algorithmic methods for processing recorded signals to ensure monitoring of the heart rate with a given accuracy. The work uses technologies of digital adaptive filtering of the received signals to monitor the heart rate in conditions of external mechanical and electrical interference, which worsen the accuracy characteristics of the system, as well as the architecture of the system and a prototype of the device, which made it possible to carry out measurements to determine the optimal algorithm for digital signal processing. When using the device, the methods of adaptive filtering based on Wiener filters, filters based on the least squares method and Kalman filtering were used. The developed device for photoplethysmographic studies provided the ability to monitor the heart rate with a given accuracy, control the current state of the body and can be used as a means of diagnosing heart diseases

The morbidity of myocarditis demonstrates an upward tendency by years, is commonly defined as the inflammation of myocytes and is caused by multiple factors. With the development of the molecular biological technique, great breakthroughs in the diagnosis and understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms of myocarditis have recently been achieved. Several questions remain unresolved, however, including standard treatment approaches to myocarditis, which remain controversial and ambiguous. Heart rate, as an independent risk factor, has been shown to be related to cardiac disease. Recent studies also show that the autonomic nervous system is involved in immunomodulatory myocarditis processes. Heart rate reduction treatment is recommended in myocarditis based on a number of animal experiments and clinical trials. It is possible that heart rate-lowering treatments can help to attenuate the inflammatory response and myocyte injury and reverse ventricular remodeling. However, how to execute the protective effects of heart rate reduction on myocarditis is still not clear. In this review, we discuss the pathogenesis and pathophysiological process of viral myocarditis and propose heart rate lowering as a therapeutic target for myocarditis, especially in light of the third-generation β-blockade carvedilol and funny channel blocker ivabradine. We also highlight some additional beneficial effects of such heart rate reduction agents, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidation, anti-nitrosative stress, anti-fibrosis and antiapoptosis properties.

The main goal of our study was to determine how the age of children, puberty and anthropometric parameters affect the formation of body composition and faulty body posture development in children. The secondary goal was to determine in which body segments abnormalities most often occur and how gender differentiates the occurrence of adverse changes in children’s body posture and body composition during puberty. The study group consisted of 464 schoolchildren aged from 6–16. Body posture was assessed with the Zebris system. The composition of the body mass was tested with Tanita MC 780 MA body mass analyzer and the body height was measured using a portable stadiometer PORTSTAND 210. The participants were further divided due to the age of puberty. Tanner division was adopted. The cut-off age for girls is ≥10 years and for boys it is ≥12 years. The analyses applied descriptive statistics, the Pearson correlation, stepwise regression analysis and the t-test. The accepted level of significance was p < 0.05. The pelvic obliquity was lower in older children (beta = −0.15). We also see that age played a significant role in the difference in the height of the right pelvis (beta = −0.28), and the difference in the height of the right shoulder (beta = 0.23). Regression analysis showed that the content of adipose tissue (FAT%) increased with body mass index (BMI) and decreased with increasing weight, age, and height. Moreover, the FAT% was lower in boys than in girls (beta negative equal to −0.39). It turned out that older children (puberty), had greater asymmetry in the right shoulder blade (p < 0.001) and right shoulder (p = 0.003). On the other hand, younger children (who were still before puberty) had greater anomalies in the left trunk inclination (p = 0.048) as well as in the pelvic obliquity (p = 0.008). Girls in puberty were characterized by greater asymmetry on the right side, including the shoulders (p = 0.001), the scapula (p = 0.001) and the pelvis (p < 0.001). In boys, the problem related only to the asymmetry of the shoulder blades (p < 0.001). Girls were characterized by a greater increase in adipose tissue and boys by muscle tissue. Significant differences also appeared in the body posture of the examined children. Greater asymmetry within scapulas and shoulders were seen in children during puberty. Therefore, a growing child should be closely monitored to protect them from the adverse consequences of poor posture or excessive accumulation of adipose tissue in the body.
