In this paper we shall try to do three things: first, to describe the economic conditions which prevailed before the arrival of Commodore Perry; second, to survey the economic policy of the Shogunate and the Meiji Government in responding to the impact of the opening up of the country; and third, to make a few general comments on some selected aspects of Japan's economic development between 1859, when three Japanese ports were opened to foreign trade, and 1894, when the Sino-Japanese War broke out. The latter date is chosen because it fairly clearly marks off the beginning of the rapid development of the modern sector of the Japanese economy.

The author touched upon topical issues of inter-budget alignment, budget provision of regions with financial resources, focusing on factors that directly affect the stability of the budget system, as well as highlighting problems in the budget sphere that require urgent attention from the authorities. It is concluded that the level of interregional differentiation continues to increase, and the modern mechanism of budget equalization requires urgent amendments and adjustments. It is emphasized that the main goals of socio-economic development of the Russian Federation related to the transition to an innovative type of development, changes in the structure of the national economy, set out in strategic documents and messages of the President of the Russian Federation and declared since 2009, are not being implemented, and the effectiveness of state economic policy and Federal budget expenditures for its implementation remains low. This indicates the need to review the current system.

Abstract When other measures for material conditions are scarce or unreliable, the use of height is now common to evaluate economic conditions during economic development. However, throughout US economic development, height data by gender have been slow to emerge. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, female and male statures remained constant. Agricultural workers had taller statures than workers in other occupations, and the female agricultural height premium was over twice that of males. For both females and males, individuals with fairer complexions were taller than their darker complexioned counterparts. Gender collectively had the greatest explanatory effect associated with stature, followed by age and nativity. Socioeconomic status and birth period had the smallest collective effects with stature.

Abstract.This research aims to explain change and continuity in the strategies of economic development after the Islamic revolution in Iran. The explanatory model is as follows: the particular configuration and interaction of four factors explain the choices and changes in the strategies of economic development in Iran: the state, civil society, the world system and ideas. Starting in 1989, the Second Republic announced important changes in the Islamic State and its relations with civil society on one side, and with the international system on the other. These changes involved other changes in the strategies of development and the application of a new strategy of development. This new strategy has two important facets: programs of economic stabilization and programs of structural adjustment.
