Atmospheric deposition: Effects on sculptures

Public concern over the deleterious effects of atmospheric deposition (AD) has grown rapidly due to its adverse effects (teratogenicity, toxicity, and carcinogenicity) to human, animals, and materials. The aim of this review is to describe the effect of the AD on sculptures, measures for its reduction, and case studies on maintenances of sculptures against the AD. To this end, a step-by-step review is outlined to discuss the harmful effect of AD contamination on many important sculptures. The review paper is also extended to describe preventive steps to reduce AD on sculptures to help reduce the risks associated with AD.

Cancer is one of the reason for mortality and its individual and collective impact is substantial. Conventional chemotherapy utilizes drugs that can destroy Tumor cells effectively. But these agents destroy healthy cells along with the tumor cells, leading to many adverse effects which include hypersensitivity reactions, nephrotoxicity, and neurotoxicity. To minimize the adverse effects, various drug delivery systems (DDSs) has been developed. Among them, nanoparticles are attractive platforms for it. So this review paper explores the recent work done on targeted delivery, enhancing tumor accumulation and longer blood circulation using more effective biomaterial that will enhance the properties of nanoparticles. Moreover, various target-specific delivery of drugs like antibody-targeted, targeting delivery through angiogenesis, mitochondria, CD44 receptor are also explained.

In general, in vitro virus elimination is based on the culture of isolated meristem, and in addition thermotherapy, chemotherapy, electrotherapy, and cryotherapy can also be applied. During these processes, plantlets suffer several stresses, which can result in low rate of survival, inhibited growth, incomplete development, or abnormal morphology. Even though the in vitro cultures survive the treatment, further development can be inhibited; thus, regeneration capacity of treated in vitro shoots or explants play also an important role in successful virus elimination. Sensitivity of genotypes to treatments is very different, and the rate of destruction largely depends on the physiological condition of plants as well. Exposure time of treatments affects the rate of damage in almost every therapy. Other factors such as temperature, illumination (thermotherapy), type and concentration of applied chemicals (chemo- and cryotherapy), and electric current intensity (electrotherapy) also may have a great impact on the rate of damage. However, there are several ways to decrease the harmful effect of treatments. This review summarizes the harmful effects of virus elimination treatments applied on tissue cultures reported in the literature. The aim of this review is to expound the solutions that can be used to mitigate phytotoxic and other adverse effects in practice.

Particulate matter (PM) is one of the problems faced in environmental science. It has health effects on man and animals in both developed and developing countries. Research and efforts have been on it several years back. Policy statements and efforts have been published. This review paper is an added information on air pollution. In it, efforts were made in discussing these: classification, effects, methodology, case studies and source apportionment. It is hoped that this paper would contribute to existing knowledge on PM.

Objective: To study the adaptive strategies from harmful effect of heat waveon an urban, educated, well to do subjects for a period of May to July 2014.Data Source:250 selected young students of RIHS. Design of Study: Descriptive Study. Setting: RawalInstitute of Health Sciences, Islamabad. Period: March – July 2014. Method: A questionnairewas circulated among the students of Rawal Institute of Health Sciences Islamabad regardingeffects of heat and measures taken to combat its effects. Results: A total of 250 urban studentswith mean age of 19.77±1.10 years were inducted in the study, having resources to face theextreme heat. A significant number of female non boarder students (p=0.000), wearing cottonclothes (p=0.000) having fair skin (p=0.000) and using air condition at homes (p=0.000) werenot acclimatized to heat waves still have headache and anxiety. A great percent of students didnot complaint of headache, heat exhaustion, heat cramp or syncope, except mild sweating,effect on studies. A great percentage (>65%) of students complained of malaise, nauseavomiting. Male students showed increase thirst than female, while anxiety state was noticedmore in female than male students. Conclusion: The use of cotton clothing, daily bathing,increased water intake and use of air conditioner minimized the severe adverse effects likeheat exhaustion, heat syncope, and heat stroke, although the minor effects like skin tanning,disturbed sleep, anxiety and adverse effects on studies cannot be avoided in heat wave season.

Organisational decision-makers have experienced the adverse effects of decisions based on information of inferior quality. Millions of dollars have been spent on information systems to improve data quality (DQ)1 as well as the skills and capacity of IT professionals. It is an important issue that the IT professionals align their work within the expectation of the organization’s vision. This chapter provides some theoretical background to DQ and establishes a link between DQ, performance-importance analysis and work alignment. Four case studies are presented to support the theory developed in this chapter and to answer the question as to whether the IT professionals consider DQ issues differently from other information users.

Trials of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) agonists have shown mixed results for cardiovascular prevention. Fibrates are PPAR- agonists that act primarily to improve dyslipidemia. Based on low- and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL and HDL) effects, gemfibrozil may be of greater cardiovascular benefit than expected, fenofibrate performed about as expected, and bezafibrate performed worse than expected. Increases in both cardiovascular and noncardiovascular serious adverse events have been observed with some fibrates. Thiazolidinediones (TZDs) are PPAR- agonists used to improve impaired glucose metabolism but also influence lipids. Pioglitazone reduces atherosclerotic events in diabetic subjects, but has no net cardiovascular benefit due to increased congestive heart failure risk. Rosiglitazone may increase the risk of atherosclerotic events, and has a net harmful effect on the cardiovascular system when congestive heart failure is included. The primary benefit of TZDs appears to be the prevention of diabetic microvascular complications. Dual PPAR- agonists have had unacceptable adverse effects but more selective agents are in development. PPAR- and pan-agonists are also in development. It will be imperative to prove that future PPAR agonists not only prevent atherosclerotic events but also result in a net reduction on total cardiovascular events without significant noncardiovascular adverse effects with long-term use.

This article presents an approach for assessing contingency resolution strategies using temporal logic. We present a framework for nominal mission modeling, then specifying contingency resolution strategies and evaluating their effectiveness for the mission. Our approach focuses on leveraging the use of model checkers to the domain of multi-robot missions to assess the adequacy of contingency resolution strategies that minimize the adverse effects of contingencies on the mission execution. We consider missions with deterministic as well as probabilistic transitions. We demonstrate our approach using two case studies. We consider the escorting of a ship in a port where multiple contingencies may occur concurrently and assess the adequacy of the proposed contingency resolution strategies. We also consider a manufacturing scenario where multiple assembly stations collaborate to create a product. In this case, assembly operations may fail, and human intervention is needed to complete the assembly process. We investigate several different strategies and assess their effectiveness based on mission characteristics.

Abstract Enlargement of breast tissue in males, or gynecomastia, is a rare condition in prepubescent boys. While the majority of cases are idiopathic, we describe an 8-year-old patient who developed unilateral gynecomastia secondary to marked dietary soy consumption. Soy products, particularly those consumed by our patient, contain high levels of phytoestrogens which have been documented in limited case studies to contribute to abnormal development of breast tissue in adolescent and adult males. To our knowledge, this is the first documented case of gynecomastia occurring in a prepubescent patient resulting from excessive intake of dietary soy. Importantly, we also report a complete resolution of gynecomastia upon exclusion of dietary products containing significant amounts of soy. While soybeans and soy-derived products can be an important source of nutrition for some, those with abnormal sensitivity to phytoestrogens may benefit from limiting dietary soy consumption to avoid potential adverse effects, including gynecomastia.

This article examines how marine pollution can be effectively contained and curtailed using existing regulatory instruments. The harmful effect of marine pollution on marine ecosystems and species is a problem that needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. It is against the backdrop of this concern that national and international legal frameworks have been put in place to regulate, reduce or stop marine pollution. Despite this, the problem of marine pollution is still rampant and impacting negatively on marine socio-economic goods and services. It is pertinent to point out that marine pollution only receives attention when it has catastrophic impacts. This article scrutinizes frameworks that have been put in place to curb marine pollution by assessing their functions. It submits that measures should be taken to ensure compliance of these regulations and that prevention of marine pollution should be prioritized in order to guard against the manifestation of destructive adverse effects of harmful substances.
