To stand out, some organizations have started asking unorthodox interview questions to uncover unique qualities of the candidates while signaling the playful culture of their organization (e.g., “Would you rather fight a horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?”). Despite its growing popularity, there is no empirical research on the organizational impact of these unusual questions. In this paper, we introduce Oddball Personality Questions (OPQs) and a theoretical model of its impact on recruitment. We test our theoretical model in two studies. In Study 1 (n = 275), we found that compared to traditional interview questions, people judged OPQs to be less useful, but more likable. The negative effect of decreased usefulness judgments on organizational attraction was offset by the positive effect of increased likability judgments. Participants were not more attracted to organizations that asked OPQs. In Study 2 (n = 266), using a multi-wave time-lagged study, we find job seekers with a greater sense of humor reported more favorable reactions toward oddball personality questions and subsequent attraction to the organization. Despite the double-edged nature of OPQs for recruitment, we believe that its limitations outweigh the benefits. Until the validity of OPQs as an assessment tool is established, its use in employment interviews remains dubious and cannot be recommended.

AbstractIn a time-lagged study with independent measures (N=115, paired responses), we examined the interactive effects of perceived organizational politics and overall satisfaction on job stress, interpersonal conflict, job performance, and creativity. The data were collected from a diverse sample of employees from various workplaces in Pakistan. The findings showed that perceived politics had a positive effect on job stress, while overall satisfaction had a negative effect on interpersonal conflict and a positive effect on creative performance. The results also revealed that in the face of high politics, highly satisfied individuals demonstrated higher levels of creativity and job performance. However, in this context of high politics negative effects were also observed, namely that highly satisfied individuals participated in interpersonal conflict and experienced high stress.

We investigate how the relational capital of a person within an organization affects the extent to which she or he conducts exploration activities. Our theory separates out a negative effect that comes from aligning goals with other organizational members from a positive effect that stems from acquiring knowledge from them. Our data from 150 members of the R&D teams of three leading R&D-intensive firms support the theoretical model. By developing and testing this theory, we contribute to the literature on exploration, which lacks understanding of the antecedents of individual exploration in organizations. We also contribute to relational capital literature, which has focused on organizational and group-level exploration, but which has shown inconsistent findings regarding the relationship between relational capital and exploration. A reason for this may be that this body of research has emphasized positive effects of relational capital for exploration only, and has not accounted for the different mechanisms that mediate the effects of relational capital on individual exploration activities. Our theory offers a more comprehensive view by explaining how relational capital may provide both benefits and liabilities to individual exploration activities.

The level of education, age and income, partially and simultaneously affect the length of time on seeking work in Manokwari Regency. BPS data shows the ratio of job seekers is quite large and the number of vacancies is very limited (42 job seekers per 1 job). Competition between job seekers is getting stronger and depends on the background of applicant. In addition, the lack of job seeker background contributes to the longer a person gets a job. This research is a type of quantitative descriptive research and data sources include primary and secondary data. The sampling method is convenience sampling, the number of samples taken is 99 respondents, the data analysis technique in this research is using multiple linear regression. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be seen that the level of education has a negative and significant effect on the length of work seeking. While age has a positive effect and income level has a negative effect on the speed of obtaining one's work, but both do not significantly influence the 95% level of confidence.  While the ability of the old variable to find work is explained by the variables of education level, age and income of 99.37%..

One of the problems exist in almost all countries is unemployment that has not been resolved perfectly. It occurs because employment cannot absorb all the job seekers who have diverse expertise, as well as domestic investment that is still unable to create new jobs. Indonesia which has an increase of population above the economic growth has not been able to alleviate unemployment so that it needs to encourage and enlarge export services. Researchers take unemployment, economic growth, and remittance as the topic of discussion, where data reveals that number of unemployed people increases very rapidly and remittances tend to be stable. The method used in this study is Ordinary Least Square (OLS) with the study location in Indonesia and using annual data (time series) from 1984 to 2016. The research results show that remittances, population growth, and economic growth have a significant positive effect on unemployment, while investment has a significant negative effect on unemployment. In the end, the problem of unemployment cannot be resolved partially but need to jointly encourage all possible variables for the solution.

This research is new in its attempt to take future time orientation, morningness orientation, and prospective memory as measures of mental prospection, and to examine a three-factor model that assumes working memory, mental prospection, and cognitive insight are independent but related higher-order cognitive constructs by using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The three-factor model produced a good fit to the data. An alternative one-factor model was tested and rejected. The results suggest that working memory and cognitive insight are distinguishable, related constructs, and that both are distinct from, but negatively associated with, mental prospection. In addition, structural equation modeling (SEM) showed that working memory had a strong positive effect on cognitive insight and a moderate negative effect on mental prospection.

The results of the study partially test the hypothesis (t-test), in substructure I shows that the capital variable has a significant negative effect on NPF, BOPO and inflation has a significant positive effect on NPF, FDR and GDP do not significantly influence NPF at Bank Muamalat Indonesia. In substructure II partially, Capital, BOPO, significant negative effect on ROA, FDR and NPF has a significant positive effect on ROA, Inflation and GDP does not significantly influence ROA while simultaneously significantly influencing ROA. Based on the sobel test, capital has a significant effect on ROA through NPF, BOPO has a significant effect on ROA through NPF, FDR has a significant effect on ROA through NPF, Inflation has a significant effect on ROA through NPF, while GDP has no significant effect on ROA through NPF.
