Based upon the Ukrainian hierarchs’ epistolary legacy, the article analyzes characteristic features of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy intellectual space, which was created by Academy alumni of different generations and various hierarchy levels. The author establishes that the closest relations were between correspondents belonging to the same or almost same hierarchy level and who were bonded together by the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy educational system and school comradeship, eventually obtained high positions in the hierarchy. Communication within the boundaries of individual centers (the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, collegiums in Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Pereiaslav, seats of Ukrainian bishops in Russia, etc.) depended on specificity of the environment. Predominant themes encountered in the letters of the Ukrainian bishops included needs of the alma mater, the Kyiv Academy, and the collegiums. The correspondence addressed issues of their legal status, academic staff, financial support, as well as the literary work and publishing activities of the hierarchs. One of the post-modernist approaches to literary criticism is the queer criticism which has not been evaluated properly. Queer criticism can refer to any piece of literary criticism that interprets a text from a non-straight perspective. Therefore, it includes both lesbian and gay criticism. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to trace the social and political reasons behind the emergence of Queer criticism in the late twentieth century till it acquired momentum in the twenty-first century. After trying to define the terms related to the Queer criticism, the paper tries to examine the poetics of queer (gay and lesbian) literary works and to point out the main characteristic features of this critical approach by identifying the criteria and the textual evidence by which a literary work is labeled queer. It, also tries to shed light on the common features between queer criticism and feminism, on the one hand, and queer criticism and the deconstructuralist approach on the other hand. The final section of the study is a critique which points out the negative aspects of this approach.

Abstract In the 1930s W.H. Auden taught at several public schools in Britain while simultaneously embarking on his poetic career. Later in life, he lectured at various educational institutions and returned to Oxford, his alma mater, in the 1950s as Oxford Professor of Poetry. His experience of teaching allowed Auden to reflect upon the pitfalls of Britain’s interwar educational system and its social function. Therefore, this article diverts attention from the prevailing scholarly focus on Auden’s poetry to his critical prose in order to examine the poet’s concerns about the content, purpose and role of education in society, his views on the structure of the educational system and disquiet about the tension between the utilitarian and humanistic dimensions of the educational process. At a more general level, the paper points out the relation that Auden maintained existed between education, democracy, art and the “crystallizing” power of poetry.

The article dwells upon connection between the two most important Kyrgyz traditions: shamanism ( bakshylyk ) and storytelling ( zhomokchuluk ). It considers the general cultural and social field that forms some features that are characteristic of both shamans and storytellers, as well as the traces of pre-Islamic culture that can be found in the world of the Kyrgyz epic. Special attention is paid to the post-folklor version of the epic “Manas” – the dastan “Aykol Manas” and the public discussion around that literary work. The discussion reflects, on the one hand, specific aspects of the understanding of the Kyrgyz epic tradition, and on the other hand, a number of characteristic features that accompany modern transformations of Kyrgyz shamanism.

AbstractIn the general context of 12th- and 13th-century migrations in Europe, several communities from the Low Countries settled in central Germany, in territories now divided between the Länder Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. Many of these settlements were concentrated in the region between Berlin and Wittenberg, still known today as the Fläming (from Flamen, German for Flemings, but also a generic name for populations from the Low Countries); the settlements also include areas around Burg and Magdeburg, a few localities around Leipzig and Naumburg, and the Goldene Aue, near the Kyffhäuser Hills. The law in those Flemish-Dutch settlements can to some extent be traced back through local customs and place-names, as well as through references in charters granting a distinctive legal status to the colonists. Characteristic features of the legal migration are the equal division of property after death and the terms Schulze and Schultheiß, which may in some cases go back to Netherlandish origins and influences.

Adolescent speakers of Dutch who have a language disorder cannot as yet be identified by generally acknowledged tests. However, in the future this will become necessary to apply for special education or financial support in the regular educational system. Based on a survey of the literature concerning normal and disordered language development in children up age 10, this article presents a pilot study in which the language skills of 10 specific language-impaired students are compared with those of 10 normally developing peers. Tasks are used both within academic and communicative contexts. Between the groups significant differences appear on two aspects only: the number of grammatical errors made while telling a story, and the length of the sentences used in writing a story. These two aspects therefore appear to be useful in the process of identifying language-disordered adolescents.

In recent years, the system of higher education has undergone significant changes affecting the most important spheres of university activities: management of the educational process, its organization, which significantly changes the attitudes, incentives, motives and value system of the academic staff. In a number of cases, as a result of reforming the management system there are created special conditions that affect the quality of educational services. The task of investigating the consequences of the ongoing reforms is being actualized in order to identify the main factors that restrain the growth of quality. To solve this problem there has been made comparative analysis of the quality of higher education in Russia and abroad. Significant reserves of its growth in Russia have been revealed. There had been proposed a classification based on the scope of action: factors that operate within the educational system, but are external to the higher education; factors that are external to the educational system as a whole; factors acting within the system of higher education. The most significant external factor for the educational system is the low innovative potential of the economy, underestimation of the quality of education by business, which determines the aim of the majority of students not to build up human capital, but to obtain a diploma with minimal expenses. The factors intrinsic to the educational system, but external to the higher education system, include the lack of interest and unpreparedness of school teachers for working with gifted students, which is primarily due to the use of the results of the General State Examination and Unified State Examination for evaluating their work . The main negative factor operating within the higher education system is the distortion of teachers' incentives, the increase of their opportunistic behavior caused by the transition to a new management system for higher education organizations.

The proposed research is an attempt to analyze gonzo-criticism in the context of the modern Ukrainian literary process. The change of aesthetic orientations in the Ukrainian literary process had significant impact on the role and status of literary criticism. The analysis of gonzo-criticism is based on the example of texts of Tetiana Trofymenko, literary critic, cultural manager, lecturer, participant of various literary and artistic events. She taught at the universities of Kharkiv and Lviv, worked at the Kharkiv Literary Museum. The reviewer cooperated at various times with the magazine “SHO”, the sites “Novynarnia”, “MediaPort”, “ZAXID.NET”, “LitAktsent” etc. The article summarizes the views on gonzo journalism and approaches to its characteristics. The analysis of Tetiana Trofymenko’s reviews is conducted on the stylistic and genre levels taking into account the problem-thematic contexts, features of the presentation of works of art and compositional peculiarities. Gonzo is a special kind of criticism with the dominant subjective view on literature. Its main criteria are impressions and emotions of the critic, this style does not have clearly regulated rules but mainly depends on the author’s personality, his perception and understanding of the artistic work, the vision of text in the context of literary process, the author’s creativity, the ability to present his position vividly and convincingly. The critic conducts a dialogue with the reader, exchanges opinions, reflections and estimations with him. The characteristic features of review are personalized point of view, personal beginning, factuality, reasoned position of the author. The narrative in review is polythematic, because it aims to highlight a variety of facts, usually united by the author’s opinion. The author of the artistic review demonstrates to the reader an analytical work aimed at cognition, understanding, interpretation and evaluation of a literary work. The stylistic features of gonzo-criticism are analyzed in details. The attention is focused on the peculiarities of the presentation of fiction texts through the ironic, subjective view of the critic. The researcher found out that this style of literary criticism manifests in emotional expressions, the use of irony, sarcasm, and the critic offers an unexpected look at the literary work, shocks and provokes the audience.

The modern property turnover is characterized by the presence of a large number of integration associations of economic entities and the existence of relations of economic dependence between them. At the same time, the legal status of such associations is not defined in Russian law due to the dominance of the traditional civilistic approach that presupposes the legal independence of each participant in entrepreneurial activity. In turn, this leads to significant violations of the rights of creditors of such interconnected persons. This is especially evident in the legal relationship of insolvency (bankruptcy), where opposing interests of the parties collide. Moreover, the insolvency of one member of the association may lead to the insolvency of the entire association as a whole. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of such a new legal category in insolvency law as an entrepreneurial group. The paper examines the rules of Russian law governing the relations of economic dependence between the subjects of property relations, and the main doctrinal approaches to this problem. The paper examines various approaches to the legal definition of an entrepreneurial group in other legal orders and highlights the characteristic features of this legal category. The conclusion is made about the absence of a systematic approach in the Russian legal system to understanding the forms of economic dependence between the participants of property turnover. The author provides a new concept of an entrepreneurial group and explains the necessity of its introduction into the Federal Law of 26.10.2002 No. 127-FZ "On Insolvency (Bankruptcy)".

This article examines the organizational structure of the state civil service during institutionalization of the system of public administration in the XVI – XVII centuries. The author describes the characteristic traits of this stage of development of the civil service system as a whole, including the highly personalized nature of carrying service, narrow separation between civil and military service, as well as the presence of rank system that was applicable to both the government apparatus and the society. In this context, the author explores the key misinterpretations of the term “rank”, its partial conflation with the concept of “post”, and the absence of universal definition. Research is also conducted on correlation between the organizational structure of the civil service and the class composition of the Tsardom of Russia, which has proven the possibility of separating the system of ranks of public servants from the unified social hierarchy. Special attention is given to the clerical service and its organizational structure: comparison of the status of clerical servants with the elements of the legal status of modern civil servant considering this type of service as the closest prototype of the state civil service. The basic traits of the clerical service include professional character, rigid hierarchy, stability, enforcement nature of activity, additional rights and responsibilities. The author highlights the key role of the concept of “rank” as the characteristic of the position of am individual within service hierarchy, used to for creating a prototype of the organizational structure of the state civil service. The scientific novelty consist in determination of the characteristic features of the organizational structure of civil service as whole, and state civil service in particular, which prove the existence of the developed, although non-unified hierarchy that later provided the framework for the reforms of Peter the Great. This confirms the gradual and consistent, rather than revolutionary nature of the transformations introduced by the Table of Ranks. Such approach gives a more comprehensive perspective upon the evolution of the institution of organizational structure of the state civil service.
