Waste management according to Act No. 18 of 2008 on Waste Management is a systematic, comprehensive, and continuous covering waste reduction and handling.  However, currently most of the waste management carried out is still just collecting and transporting waste without any effort to reduce the amount of waste generation. As a result of waste management that there is no effort to reduce, the amount of waste generation will be large and only end up in the final disposal site (TPA), which affects the health of the environment around the landfill site, such as the formation of leachate, methane gas and odors. For this reason, it is necessary to make an effort to reduce the amount of waste generation, one of which can be done is by way of community-based waste management through 3R (Reduse, Reuse and Recycle). Based on these problems, it is necessary to do socialization to the community about how to manage community-based waste through the 3Rs so that people can play an active and sustainable role in waste management.

Batununggal Indah housing still faces obstacles in waste management due to the low awareness of the community to separate and sort waste. Therefore, this area is the target of implementing waste management assistance carried out by the Bandung City Environment and Sanitation Service (DLHK) in collaboration with the City Government of Kawasaki, Japan. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the waste management program in Permai and Jelita Clusters by identifying activities, changing community behavior and calculating changes in the amount of waste that is disposed of at the final disposal site. The evaluation results show that the main activity that has been carried out is a social approach in the form of workshops and counseling. Measurement of waste generation shows a decrease in the weight of generated waste that is disposed of at the final disposal site, indicating that waste separation has been practiced. This decrease is still insignificant because the community has not consistently carried out sorting behavior, so it needs sustainable encouragement.

Waste management has posed a lot of threats to both humanity and the stability of the natural environment. This study specifically investigated whether public relations’ media enlightenment campaign has any significant influence on waste management and also studied whether public relations’ community participation has any significant influence on waste management. The population of the study consists of residents of Enugu metropolis. Survey method was adopted for the study, and the sample size of 384 residents were determined using Cochran’s method. Cronbach’s Alpha was used to determine the reliability of 0.980. Using the convenience sampling technique, the questionnaires were distributed to 384 residents, and 295 of them were duly filled and validated. Using simple linear regression for data analysis, the findings revealed that public relations’ media public enlightenment campaign strategy has a significant influence on waste management (r = 0.933; t = 76.736; F = 5888.365; p < 0.05). Similarly, it was revealed that public relations’ community participation strategy has a significant influence on waste management (r = 0.930; t = 76.280; F = 5667.029; p < 0.05). Ergo, there is a need to improve on media public enlightenment campaign strategy towards educating and encouraging waste management behavior among residents through an adequate traditional and social media awareness campaign. Also, residents should be encouraged to participate actively and meaningfully in environmental waste management issues in Enugu metropolis. The implication is that residents will be more conscious of managing their wastes effectively as a result of adequate information gathering from the media and participation in waste management activities. Inorganic waste is a type of waste that is difficult to decompose naturally by microorganisms. Inorganic waste processing is carried out by collecting, disposing and transporting it to the final disposal site (TPA). There needs to be an effort to utilize inorganic waste, especially plastics, into useful products. People in Limbungan Village, Rumbai Pesisir District, Pekanbaru City already have a waste bank, but the benefits have not been felt by the community because inorganic waste is still being disposed of. There is a need for efforts to socialize and educate the public to process inorganic waste into handicraft products that have economic value. The method is carried out by educating the public about waste processing in general and demonstrating the use of plastic waste into handicraft products. After the counseling was carried out, the community had knowledge about waste management in general and skills in processing plastic waste into handicraft products such as bags, candy containers that were suitable for use and worthy of sale
