This research was aimed at analysing students’ strategies in giving compliments. This was descriptive qualitative research using a qualitative approach accompanied by descriptive statistics. This research involved 39 EFL students as the participants in the academic year 2019/2020 selected using cluster random sampling technique. The instrument used to collect the data was a DCT (Discourse Completion Test) containing a number of situations where the students were expected to give their compliment. The result showed that the students used many kinds of strategy in giving compliments. Explicit strategy was the most used by the students. Furthermore, the single explicit strategy appeared the most within overall strategies that appeared in the DCT. This implied that the students prefer to give a direct and simple compliment. One strategy in giving compliment appeared out of the classification which is congratulation attached to unbound semantic formula.

Research aimed to find the effect of Conceptual Understanding Procedures learning model on the mastery of physics concepts observed from the scientific attitude of 10th-grade students. Type of research was quasi-experiment with 2x2 factorial design. Population was 10th grade students of MIA in SMAN 1 Gunungsari academic year 2017/2018, and the sampling technique was cluster random sampling. The data of the students’ mastery of concepts were collected by giving essays and the scientific attitude was measured by using questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed by applying 2-way ANOVA, assisted by SPSS 16 with (α) significance level of 5%. The results show that significant value for the effect of learning model consider from scientific attitude in amount 0,01 which its was smaller from (α), and significant value for interaction between Conceptual Understanding Procedures learning model with scientific attitude in amount 0,18 which its value is bigger from (α). According to data, can be conclude: there was an effect of Conceptual Understanding Procedures learning model to the mastery of physics concept in terms of scientific attitude from 10th grade student’; and there was no interaction between Conceptual Understanding Procedures learning model to scientific attitude to the mastery of physics concept from 10th grade student’.

This research investigated the factors contributing to learners’ speaking performance and exploring the reasons why those factors are perceived by learners to contribute to their speaking performance. This was descriptive research that used both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The participants of this research were 28 EFL learners who were selected by using cluster random sampling. Closed-ended questionnaires, open-ended questionnaires, and interviews were used to collect the data. The data from closed-ended questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively using the descriptive statistics of frequencies and percentages, while the data from open-ended questionnaires and interviews were analyzed qualitatively. Data from all sources were triangulated to validate the data. The result of the closed-ended questionnaire showed that the factors which contribute the most to learners’ speaking performance were the time for preparation and topical knowledge with the same percentages (97.4%). The least factor that contributes to learners’ speaking performance was the pressure to perform well (60.5%). Those factors contribute to learners' speaking performance in both positive and negative ways. These influences can either help motivate learners to speak English or even discourage them from doing so. It all depends on how learners’ value, respond to, and behave towards those factors. Furthermore, this research also gives contributions on factors that contribute to learners' speaking performance; those are vocabulary and interaction with native speakers.

This research aimed to examine the effect of VAK approach (Visualization, Auditory, Kinestetic) towards the result of learning physics of students at SMPN 10 Mataram in academic year 2013/2014. The kind of research used was experimental design with design of research was randomized posttest only control design. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. Population in this research was all the students from the eight grade at SMPN 10 Mataram, while the sample was 25 students of class VIII A as the experimental group and 27 students of class VIII B as the control group. The data obtained was analyzed by using t-test of two-tailed. t-count was 4.78 and t-table was 2.00 with significance level 0.05. Hence, t-table is smaller than t-count or t-count is bigger than t-table. It means that Null Hypothesis was rejected and Alternate Hypothesis was accepted. It means that the application of VAK Approach (Visualization, Auditory, Kinestetic) affects the results of learning physics of students.Keyword: VAK Approach

The study aimed to determine the positive effect of vocabulary mastery on understanding the discourse to fifth grade students of public elementary schools in Banyumas Sub-district in academic year of 2020/2021 and to measure the contribution of vocabulary mastery on understanding the discourse to fifth grade students of public elementary schools in Banyumas Sub-district in academic year of 2020/2021. The research was correlational quantitative approach. Sampling technique was probability sampling cluster random sampling. Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis with results obtained correlation coefficient value of 0.579 and Sig value. 0,000<0.05. It meant that vocabulary mastery gave positive and significant effect on understanding the discourse to fifth grade students of public elementary schools in Banyumas Sub-district in academic year of 2020/2021 and the correlation was moderate. Vocabulary mastery contributed 33.5% on understanding the discourse and the remaining 66.5% by other factors. It concludes that there is positive and significant effect of vocabulary mastery on understanding the discourse to fifth grade students of public elementary schools in Banyumas Sub-district in academic year of 2020/2021. The richer the mastery of student vocabulary, better the understanding of the content of discourse in students, and vice versa.

This study was aimed to improve students’ ability in learning vocabulary through jigsaw method at Timor University in, Timor Tengah Utara regency (TTU), NTT Province, Indonesia. The main purpose of this study is to know the effect of using jigsaw method to improve students’ vocabulary ability. This study belongs to pre experimental method with the one group pretest - posttest design. This study was conducted in one class which was given the treatment. The treatment of this study is teaching and learning process by using jigsaw method. The population of this study was second semester students of English study program of Timor university in academic year 2017 / 2018. The total members of second semester students were 120 who were divided into three (3) classes. Every class consisted of 30 students. The writers used purposive sampling technique to take the data. The writers only determined one class because the writer assumed that in this class, students have sufficient knowledge of English. Hence, the sample of this study was 30 students. The writers had conducted pre test before gave the treatment to the students. Finally, the writers gave the posttest to measure students’ vocabulary ability in the end of teaching and learning process. From the data analysis, the writers found that the average of the students’ vocabulary was improvement. The average of students’ score in pretest was 65% and posttest was 79%. After the writers conducted the research, the writers concluded that (1). Jigsaw method can improve students’ vocabulary ability. (2). Jigsaw method can improve the students’ interaction with the teacher and other students.

The objectives of the research are to examine: (1) whether Content-Based Instruction is more effective than Audio-Lingual Method to teach speaking to the third semester students of STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro in the academic year of 2012/2013; (2) whether the students having high creativity have better speaking skill than those having low creativity; and (3) whether there is an interaction between teaching methods and students’ creativity in teaching speaking. The method in this research was experimental study. It was conducted at the third semester students of STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro in the academic year of 2012/2013. The sample of the research was two classes; C consists of 40 students as an experimental class and E consists of 40 students as a control class. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. Each class was divided into two groups (the students having high and low creativity). The techniques of collecting data were creativity test and speaking test that were tried out to know their readability. The data were analyzed by using Multifactor Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test of 2 x 2 and Tukey test. The result of data analysis shows that: (1) Content-Based Instruction is more effective than Audio-Lingual Method to teach speaking (2) the students having high creativity have better speaking skill than the students having low creativity and (3) there is an interaction between teaching methods and students’ creativity in teaching speaking. Based on the finding, it can be concluded that Content-Based Instruction is an effective method to teach speaking.
