Introduction: Oral health not only comprises of mere absence of oral disease and dysfunction but also includes dental appearance for overall facial beauty as it has influence on person’s self confidence and social life. Dental aesthetic comprises of tooth color, shape, alignment and position of the teeth in the dental arches. For the rewarding outcome of the treatment, clinician need to understand the root of dissatisfaction with present aesthetic and desired treatment to enhance the aesthetic that will assist in development of treatment plan. Materials and Methods: Pre-tested structured questionnaire was used in 349 subjects from previous studies with slight modification for data collection. The questionnaire was divided into three parts, first part recorded the demographic data, second part consisted of the patients’ view regarding satisfaction of the dental appearance and third part consist of the Likert scale where participants will rate the satisfaction level regarding their general appearance. Results: A relationship between gender (P<0.05), education (P=0.006) and overall satisfaction of the general appearance of the teeth was seen. Males were found to be more satisfied than females and people with higher education were more satisfied with their general dental appearance. For majority of the participants, choice of treatment to improve the aesthetic was teeth whitening (37.25%) followed by orthodontic treatment (29.80%), then dental crown, veneers (27.29%). The least favoured treatment by the participants is denture (5.16%) to improve the aesthetic. Conclusions: Dissatisfaction with the color, alignment, teeth appearance and condition are the main reasons for the patients to seek aesthetic treatment.

Abstract Introduction The facial beauty is not easy to define, yet it is paramount to assess the needs of each patient to propose an appropriate treatment plan that will provide beautification or rejuvenation in a natural-looking fashion. One of the beauty aspects easily recognized is the face shape, which can give a perception of age, gender, and attractiveness, and reflects the facial anatomical structure. Because addressing the structure of the face is the basis for the aesthetic approach with dermal fillers, we find the identification of the patient’s face shape to be a very good starting point in the facial assessment. Objective To discuss important aspects of facial beauty, the characteristics of the different facial shapes (oval, heart, round, and angular), and a method of planning the aesthetic treatment with injectable fillers based on the strengths and weaknesses of each morphology of the face, that is called the AB face technique. Methods In this study, we describe seven clinical cases: two cases each of oval, heart, and round, and one case of angular shape. Results The evaluation of the face shape can help us define the priorities of the aesthetic approach, determining the areas that need to be restored in the aging face, as well as which areas could be enhanced in the younger patient. Conclusion This approach can be helpful in proposing the aesthetic treatment plan with injectable fillers to provide beautification, rejuvenation, and enhancement of the facial structure, which may benefit facial contours through aging.

Introduction: Perceptions of the esthetic appearance of teeth vary in different individuals and can affect satisfaction with the dental appearance, attitudes, and the need for appropriate dental treatment. The research aims to examine the factors influencing the satisfaction with the appearance of the dentition and the attitude toward treatments which improve dental esthetics among students of the faculty of dentistry in comparison to the attitudes of students of non-dental faculties. Methods: The research included a total of 358 students of the Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Architecture in Sarajevo who voluntarily filled out a questionnaire created for this research. The questionnaire contained questions related to satisfaction with the appearance of teeth in general, tooth color, tooth position, questions related to the previous, and future desired esthetic restorations and treatments. Results: Female subjects expressed statistically significantly greater dissatisfaction with the appearance of the dentition and did or plan to do treatments that could improve dental esthetics compared to male subjects. Students of the Faculty of Dentistry at final years were significantly more satisfied with the general appearance of teeth and tooth color compared to freshmen students of the Faculty of Dentistry and students of the Faculty of Architecture. Conclusion: Satisfaction with dental appearance is a subjective experience that is influenced by various factors, level, and type of education is among them.

A healthy and beautiful smile can affect appearance and confidence. One of the aesthetic problems in dentistry that is often complained of by patients is excessive gingival display (gummy smile). The excessive gingival display can be caused by several factors, one of which is altered passive eruption (APE). One of the treatments to correct gummy smile related to APE is crown lengthening. Crown lengthening can be with bone reduction (gingivectomy with bone reduction) or without bone reduction (gingivectomy). Crown Lengthening with bone reduction is a surgical procedure that aims to maintain the dentogingival complex and to improve smile aesthetics. The purpose of this case report is to determine the crown lengthening with bone reduction (gingivectomy with bone reduction) procedure as a gummy smile treatment related to APE .A23-year-old female patient, came to Dental Hospital of Universitas Airlangga with complaints of her upper gum which not in the same length and the teeth looked short, she considered her smile was less aesthetic. After conducting analyses relating to aesthetics and periodontal tissue, crown lengthening with bone reduction was chosen for this patient treatment. The treatment results are quite good, visible gingival margins that matched the gingival zenith and improved patient's smile profile. APE as the etiology of patient's gummy smile can be corrected. There are no post-surgical complications such as excessive pain and infection. A proper diagnosis, treatment plan, and good techniques can produce a harmonious smile on the patient.

Abstract Background Evidence in literature about the best reconstructive approach after melanoma resection is controversial, with some authors advocating that tissue rearrangement flap techniques might hinder the early detection of local relapses. The aim of the present study is to evaluate oncological, aesthetic, and functional outcomes following melanoma reconstruction using pedicled perforator-based flaps. Methods The authors reviewed all patients affected by melanoma treated during a 6-year period. Demographic data, tumor characteristics, and operative variables were evaluated. Locoregional recurrence was assessed with clinical and radiological follow-up. One-year postoperatively patients rated on a 5-point Likert scale the aesthetic and functional outcomes of the procedure. Three blind observers examined preoperative and 1-year postoperative photographs and rated the aesthetic outcome of the reconstructive procedure. Results One-hundred sixty-five patients were treated with wide excision and delayed reconstruction, including pedicled perforator-based flaps in 70 patients (group A) and primary closure in 95 patients (group B). Mean Breslow thickness was 2.972 and 2.189 mm in group A and B, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in locoregional recurrence (chi-squared test, p = 0.8333; Fisher's exact test, p > 0.9999) between the two groups. Group A reported a higher satisfaction with both the aesthetic (mean rating 4.390 in group A and 4.094 in group B) and functional (mean rating 4.732 in group A and 4.170 in group B) outcomes of the procedure, the latter being statistically significant (p = 0.0006). Conclusion This series suggests that pedicled perforator-based flaps provide optimal aesthetic and functional outcomes in melanoma reconstruction without impairing the locoregional control of the disease.

Diagnostico. Ortodontia.   Abstract Beauty can be defined as a combination of qualities that give pleasure to the senses or the mind.  Plastic surgeons believe that cheek volume is an important determinant of facial beauty and youthful appearance.  In orthodontics, it is not enough to just understand what interferes with the smile, it is necessary to diagnose what is out of the ordinary, so that a treatment plan can be established.  Just as in functional problems we follow conducts that lead us to the diagnosis of anomalies, aesthetic problems also need parameters in order to find the defects. In this context, scientific investigations on the criteria used by orthodontists and patients to define a smile or face as aesthetically pleasing could build a solid ladder for understanding the differences between the professional's and the patient's perception.  During the execution of the treatment, the consultation of scientific research that guides the situation favors its course.  To guide the identification and management in the diagnosis and adequate indication of bichectomy was the objective of this literature review carried out in the scientific databases National Library of Medicine, Washington, DC (MEDLINE: Pubmed) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO).  1710 scientific articles were retrieved, which after selection resulted in 48 articles related to the description and management in the diagnosis and adequate indication of Bichectomy, chosen for the elaboration of this literature review. The existence of easy-to-consult materials with an adequate scientific basis to guide patients in making decisions while Bichectomy favors treatment management.   Keywords: Bichectomy. Background. Hemimaxillectomy of acquired palatal defects may predispose the patient to hypernasal speech, leakage of fluids into the nasal cavity, impaired masticatory function, and swallowing difficulties leading to a detrimental impact on the quality of life. Sequentially, it can also affect individual character and trust in social life, leading to social phobia and anxiety. This article presents prosthodontic management of a young male patient with deformation of the entire right half of the face due to surgical removal of odontogenic myxoma. It describes a method where the clinician utilized a simple, noninvasive, and cost-effective technique to cut the weight of the obturator and to attain aesthetics, utilizing a detachable lip and cheek plumper. Case Presentation. A 19-year-old male attended the Prosthodontic Clinics at Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Khartoum, eight months after the surgical removal of a tumor. The chief complaint was difficulty eating or drinking. Furthermore, he dropped out of school because of his facial deformity and his indistinct voice. Medical and dental history revealed surgical resection of the entire right half of the maxillary alveolar bone due to myxoma. Intraoral examination revealed a well-healed surgical defect in the maxillary right buccal vestibule creating an oroantral communication. A treatment plan was formulated, keeping the patient’s demand in mind. The decision was made to treat the patient with a maxillary obturator that would gain its support from the remaining teeth and tissues with a detachable cheek and lip plumper. The use of dental magnets as a means of attachment was elected. Conclusion. This article has described a simple, noninvasive, and cost-effective method to improve facial appearance in patients with hollow faces. The plumper prosthesis successfully improved the patient’s appearance to the extent that comfort and function would permit and encourage self-esteem.

Introduction: Unhealthy behavior such as neglecting to brush and floss, using tobacco and alcohol, and inadequate nutrition can adversely affect dental health. The frequency of dental visits is also of great importance in the early detection of different oral disorders. Our aim was to assess oral health behavior and attitudes among students of the 1st year of  two health and non-health oriented studies of University of Sarajevo. Methods: We included 119 students of the 1st year of Faculty of Health Studies and 108 students of the 1st year of Faculty of Architecture of the University of Sarajevo. A self-administered questionnaire was used, comprising demographic data, data on oral hygiene habits, dental attendance pattern, a number of extracted teeth as well as problems with the appearance, comfort, and social life due to teeth problems. Results: Faculty of Architecture students significantly more often visit their dentist (χ2 = 24.174, df = 5, p = 0.00). Faculty of Health Studies students have significantly more extracted teeth (χ2 = 35.54, df = 4, p = 0.001). Dental health habits were significantly better at the students Faculty of Architecture (χ2 = 16.391, df = 2, p = 0.001). No significant difference between the groups about about avoiding encounters due to teeth and dentures problems. Conclusion: Oral health related attitudes may be better in students of non-health oriented studies, however, these results have to be confirmed by more investigations and larger studies.

The aesthetic treatment for anterior teeth requires a series of clinical and technical evaluations to obtain a predictable result, following a well-defined operating sequence. Today, the clinical–technical team can use different digital tools in the different steps of the workflow. A preventive assessment, the knowledge of limits, and the possibilities of surgical and prosthetic procedures allow to use these devices. Sharing goals of the treatment with the patient according to their expectations and needs is the key point of the treatment plan. Setting a defined treatment plan avoids invasive procedures. In this clinical case report, a 27-year-old patient affected by Class II div 2 malocclusion with deep bite was treated with a full digital workflow. Previewing the aesthetics was through dedicated software, which shows operators and patients the objectives of the therapy and guides the dental technician in the first phase of the work. The use of digital flows in the prosthetic phases reduces the working time. In this case, it shows the impact of a digital workflow on peri-prosthetic therapy for the aesthetic rehabilitation of the upper central incisors in a young adult.

This essay examines the intersection of the politics of post-apartheid South Africa and the politics of playing rugby. It traces the sport’s history through its manifestations in the apartheid state and the anti-apartheid struggle, but it also shows that South African rugby counts for more than the sum of these histories. Drawing inspiration from the writings of Claude Lévi-Strauss and Franz Boas, as well as from the aesthetic theory of Theodor Adorno, the article argues that rugby contains an inherent dimension of unpredictability that allows it to recombine and challenge the symbols and sentiments assigned to it. Considered in this way, rugby acquires a measure of autonomy as a social production, shaping possibilities and entering into existing political conversations with its own voice. Acknowledging this small space of unpredictability, then, carries important implications for how we theorize sporting performances in relation to other forms of creative expression. Rugby players, coaches, and teams, for their part, are well aware of the sport’s autonomous dimension, and they know that they must negotiate the uncertainty of the sport if they wish to participate at all. These social actors regard uncertainty as a problem to be solved, and they conceptualize and work through rugby’s layering of unpredictable instant atop unpredictable instant in socially and historically specific ways. As a result, the negotiations between South Africans and their rugby become a powerful heuristic for post-apartheid social life, and they produce not only violence and injuries but also moments of magic thick with political significance.
