Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of pedometer-based intervention and the relationship between daily walking steps and nutritional status among overweight/obese university students in Kuala Terengganu. Materials and methods: The study was an 8-week intervention study that included 23 overweight/obese university students. After 7 days of baseline activity, anthropometric data such as weight, height and waist circumference and a one-day dietary record were taken. The participants were divided into a control and case group. The control group (n=15) was instructed to continue with their normal activities and habits throughout the 8 weeks. The case group (n=8) was instructed to walk based on the targeted number of steps. Data such as body weight, waist circumference and a one-day dietary record were taken after the intervention. Results: Both case and control group show significant differences in body mass index (BMI) with p=0.017 and p=0.047 respectively. However, there is a large and significant difference between walking steps and BMI before and after intervention for the case group. There were no differences in any other study parameters during the 8-week study. Conclusion: In conclusion, short-term intervention with a pedometer increased physical activity and positively affected the BMI of overweight/obese participants. The use of a pedometer was efficient in measuring daily physical activity (r= 0.756, p< 0.05).

Background: Acne vulgaris is a multifactorial skin disease affecting many of the world’s population throughout their lives and can cause severe emotional distress and psychological disorders such as poor self-image, depression, and anxiety. Several underlying risk factors are known for acne development, and many, including inappropriate lifestyle, are yet to be studied. Objectives: In this study, we aimed to determine the role of lifestyle factors including dietary habits, physical activity, and bathing frequency in the incidence of acne vulgaris. Methods: The study population included 425 subjects, of whom 171 were acne patients (the case group), and 254 were non-acne patients (the control group). All participants filled out a questionnaire addressing their demographic information and some lifestyle habits. The data were analyzed by SPSS. Results: Fast food consumption was significantly higher in the case than in the control group (P = 0.008). Dairy intake and bathing frequency were significantly higher among non-acne patients than those with acne (P < 0.001 and P = 0.001, respectively). Vegetable consumption, water intake, and the number of episodes and minutes of physical activity per week were not significantly different between the two groups (P = 0.1, P = 0.4, P = 0.9, and P = 0.8, respectively). The mean weight of participants was significantly higher in the case than in the control group (P = 0.001). Conclusions: There was no significant difference in most of the studied factors between the two groups. Therefore, further studies are needed to assess the role of other underlying conditions such as genetic factors and hormonal changes in the development of acne vulgaris.

Abstract: Central obesity is considered as a risk factor that strongly associated with several chronic diseases. Men with waist circumference ≥ 90 cm and women with waist circumference ≥80 cm are stated as central obesity. This study aimed to determine the effect of brisk walking on liver function in central obesity. This was an experimental field study with a non-randomized pre-post one group test and control group. This study used consecutive sampling method. There were 30 samples divided into two groups; 15 samples were given intervention and 15 samples as the control group. Data were analyzed with Wilcoxon signed ranks test.   The results showed that brisk walking for 1 month decreased the SGPT and SGOT levels, however, statistically there was no significant difference before and after intervention with a p value >0.05. Conclusion: There was no significant influence of brisk walking on liver function in central obesity. Laki-laki dengan lingkar pinggang ≥90 cm atau perempuan dengan lingkar pinggang ≥80 cm dinyatakan sebagai obesitas sentral. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh brisk walking (jalan cepat) terhadap fungsi hati pada obesitas sentral.  Metode penelitian ini yaitu eksperimental lapangan dengan rancangan non – randomized pre-post test with control. Sampel ditentukan dengan teknik pengambilan sampel konsekutif sampling. Terdapat 30 sampel yang dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yakni 15 sampel yang diberi perlakuan dan 15 sampel sebagai kontrol. Data dianalisis dengan SPSS 20 dan uji Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan terjadi penurunan kadar enzim hati SGPT dan SGOT pada sampel yang melakukan brisk walking selama 1 bulan tetapi secara statistik tidak ada perbedaan bermakna sebelum dan sesudah mendapatkan perlakuan dengan nilai p > 0,05.  Simpulan: Tidak terdapat pengaruh bermakna dari brisk walking (jalan cepat) terhadap fungsi hati pada obesitas sentral. Background: Caused by an imbalance in the body’s oxidant and antioxidant status, oxidative stress can give rise to tissue damage and exacerbation of many diseases. Objectives: This study investigated the oxidative stress markers in patients with fractures and healthy subjects. Methods: In a cross-sectional case-control study, 40 patients with fractures admitted to an orthopedic ward and 40 healthy, non-fractured patients were selected using convenience sampling. Serum was analyzed for oxidant and antioxidant activities based on standard methods. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: There was a significant difference in mean TAC between the case (748.2 ± 302.83 μmol/L) and control (984.90 ± 207.02 μmol/L) groups (P = 0.003). The mean MDA was 16.61 ± 4.16 µmol/L in the case group and 18.45 ± 5.43 µmol/L in the control group (P = 0.09). The mean SOD was 63.41 ± 16.67 U/g Hb in the case group and 58.54 ± 21.83 U/g Hb in the control group (P = 0.2). There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of BMI and other variables. Conclusions: A significant difference existed in TAC between the two groups, which indicated increased oxidative stress in patients. However, oxidative stress could occur before and after undergoing fractures. The results suggested a slight, but not significant, difference between the two groups in the SOD and MDA scores. More conclusive results are required to determine the enzymatic and non-enzymatic markers of oxidative stress in larger sample sizes and during different stages of treatment.

In adolescents, the iron not only functions as energy metabolism in the body but also helps to improve learning achievement. Iron deficiency can lead to fatigue, and the concentration, memory and learning abilities can be disrupted. It can also lead to anemia, especially in young women. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of leaf moringa capsules on the hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls in Sabbihisma Junior High School. This research used a quasi method of pretest and posttest experiment with control group design. The sample of the study were 32 people, 16 cases (moringa leaf capsule) and 16 control groups. Data collection was done through observation and laboratory examination of hemoglobin levels before and after treatment. The data were tested with paired sample t-test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in female hemoglobin levels in the case group with p = 0,000, while the control group was not significant with p = 0,091.

Introduction: Recent studies have identified ADHD as an inflammatory condition with immunological and oxidative responses. Therefore, it is necessary to examine these factors in the patients. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the dietary intakes of antioxidants, SOD activity and the serum levels of inflammatory factors in children with ADHD. Materials and methods: This study was a retrospective case-control study with 64 ADHD children aged 6 to 13 years. The demographic questionnaire, FFQ, and Baecke physical activity questionnaire were used. SOD activity and the serum level of inflammatory factors (homocysteine, IL-6, and CRP) were measured in all patients. Based on the values obtained from CRP, 32 patients were included in the case group (CRP≥1 mg/L) and 32 patients in the control group (0≤CRP<1 mg/L). Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups as regards age, sex, weight, height, body mass index (BMI). In the case group, the mean SOD activity score (P=0.034), the physical activity score (P=0.04) and the zinc intake (P=0.02) and homocysteine levels were higher than they were in the control group (P=0.001). Among the variables in the presence of each other, the best predictors were homocysteine (OR: 1.34, 95% CI: 1.082-1.670, P=0.029) and physical activity (OR: 0.85, 95% CI: 0.761-0.952, P=0.022) respectively, and in the presence of these two variables, other variables were not significant predictors. Conclusion: The present study showed that the level of inflammatory factors in the case group was significantly higher than the control group. Homocysteine and physical activity can predict the inflammatory status induced by CRP. Decreasing the antioxidant activity of SOD with increasing CRP levels, indicates oxidative stress associated with inflammation in these patients.

Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease globally. Hypertension is remains silent killer, the clinical strategy to focusing on new and improved treatments is exercise. Tera  gymnastics is a physical and mental exercise, combining the movement of body parts with breathing techniques and rhythms through the concentration of thought that is carried out regularly, harmoniously, correctly and continuously, Physical activity can reduce high blood pressure. Some study showed Regular physical activity is an effective intervention with respect to these factor, decreasing mortality rate for cardiovascular disease and all cause of disease in hypertensive patient. Gymnastic Tera exercise can help to control metabolic variable related to hypertension. The study was use quasy experimental design with one group pretest-posttest. The study was conducted in Puskesmas Pasundan Garut. Sampling in this study is subjects  that is criteria patients has hipertension with 8 weeks treatment so will take methode of  concecutive sampling with 15 respondents for intervention group and 15 for control group.  The sample were age 30-55 years. The Intervention was gymnastic tera exercise. The Blood pressure function was evaluated before and after the training period. The data were analyzed by using t-test paired. The result showed a significant difference before and after tera gymnastic exercise in patient with hypertension I (p=000.0). Result of systolic blood presure when in mean SD pretest is 146.00 higher than post test is 136.00 in intervention group. The tera gymnastic exercise conditioning program achieved effect in this population. The reduction of blood pressure after exercise is of great clinical relevance.  The increased riskof physical inactivity in controlling hypertension in our study suggest that general practitioners must be in the habit of prescribing practice of physical exercise. Physical activity has been shown to have beneficial effect on blood pressure. patients are followed up regularly to confirm that they are adhering to the management plan and the blood pressure targets.

Abstract Background:Working women in Shanghai are a special group with a high risk of suffering work stress and burnout. They were disturbed by the work-family conflicts, which resulted in lower health-related quality of life (HRQoL), higher job stress and burnout. This study evaluated the potential physical activity and counselling intervention effects on health outcomes of working women in Shanghai participating in a group- or an individual-based physical activity and counselling intervention compared to a control group.Methods:Participants were randomly recruited from eight communities of Shanghai using the stratified cluster sampling method. A sample of 121 female workers was used in this study. They were randomly divided into three groups: a control group and two intervention groups (individual-based and group-based intervention). The two intervention groups accepted 12-week moderate physical activity and counselling intervention. Subjective perceptions of work stress, burnout, and HRQoL were measured before and after the intervention. Results:In the control group, no significant difference was found between participants for stress (p = 0.752) and burnout (p = 0.622) before and after the experiment. However, the HRQoL value decreased after the experiment, with the mean value falling from 91.59 to 87.10. After the experiment, the values of stress and burnout decreased, and the value of HRQoL increased in the two intervention groups. At the intervention’s completion, there were significant differences compared the two intervention groups to the control group separately regarding changes in burnout and HRQoL (all p < 0.01). For stress, the group-based intervention group exhibited a significant difference compared to the control group (p < 0.01), while the individual-based intervention group did not exhibit a significant difference compared to the control group (p = 0.128).Conclusion: Physical activity and counselling intervention delivered either in a group or individual format could reduce burnout and improve HRQoL of working women in Shanghai, and the group interventions were more effective than those targeted at individuals.

Background:Recent public health initiatives have promoted accumulating 10,000 steps per day. Little previous research has evaluated its effects in young adults. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of taking 10,000 steps per day on fitness and cardiovascular risk factors in sedentary university students.Methods:Healthy, sedentary students (mean age 21.16 ± SD 6.17) were randomly allocated to take 10,000 steps per day or to a control group who maintained their habitual activity. Members of the 10,000 step group wore a pedometer and reported daily step count in a diary. Outcome measurements (20-meter multistage shuttle run, BMI, and blood pressure) were measured before and after 6 weeks.Results:There were no significant differences between the groups at baseline. After 6 weeks, the 10,000 steps group were taking significantly more steps (8824.1 ± SD 5379.3 vs. 12635.9 ± SD 6851.3; P = .03).No changes were observed in fitness, or BMI (P > .05). Significant reductions in blood pressure (P = .04) in the 10,000 step group.Conclusions:A daily target of 10,000 steps may be an appropriate intervention in sedentary university students to increase their physical activity levels. The positive health benefits of simple everyday physical activity should be promoted among health professionals.

ABSTRACT Objective: to ascertain the effectiveness of an intervention program in relation to anthropometric measurements and stage of readiness for behavioral change in women with excess weight. Methods: the intervention group (IG) was made up of 13 women, and the control group (CG), by 20. The intervention lasted 16 weeks, and included the practice of guided physical activity three times a week, and health education once a week. The application of the questionnaire on stage of readiness for behavioral change, and the anthropometric evaluations, were undertaken at two points - before and after the period of intervention. The statistical analysis involved tests of comparison and association. Results: in general, at the first point, the participants in the two groups were predisposed to make changes in what they ate and in their physical activity. However, significant difference was only observed in relation to weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference and waist-hip ratio and readiness for change among the members of the intervention group. Conclusion: the intervention programmed was effective in weight loss, reduction of waist circumference and waist-hip ratio, and in changing behaviors related to the practicing of physical exercise and eating habits.

Objective: Determine the effect of melatonin administration on sleep quality perimenopausal women based on PSQI and compare the results of PSQI before and after treatment. Methods: This study uses an experimental analytic study with Case Control design to determine the effect of melatonin administration on sleep quality perimenopausal women based on PSQI and compare the results of PSQI before and after treatment. This research was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan. The study population was all perimenopausal women who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. This research was conducted from February to March 2020 with a sample of 25 people. Results: PSQI scores in the control group by age were 4.0±1.0 in the age group>50 y from 8.0±1.0; 2.17±1.62 in the group with tertiary education from 5.83±1.69; 2.56±1.67 in the non-working group of 6.44±1.51 and 2.31±1.6 in the multipara group of 6.0±1.58. From the analysis results obtained a value of P<0.001. This also showed a significant difference in the PSQI score in the control group. significant differences in PSQI values ​​in the control group and melatonin group in the case group before getting melatonin (p<0.001), whereas after administering melatonin, no difference in PSQI score was found in the groups that received melatonin and the control group (p = 0.657) Conclusion: There are differences in PSQI scores in the case group before and after the administration of melatonin, in the control group who did not get melatonin and the difference in PSQI scores in the case group and the control group before treatment, but there were no differences in PSQI score in the case and control groups after treatment.
