The article is devoted to the current problem of rural tourism development at the national and regional levels. The paper reviews publications dedicated to rural tourism, which proved that the study of the development and geospatial organization of rural tourism in Poltava region requires further research. It analyzes the domestic legal framework, which is the basis for the development of rural tourism, covers scientific approaches to the conceptual and terminological apparatus of rural tourism and systematizes objects of tourist interest. According to the results of the study, the interpretation of the concept of "rural tourism" in a narrow subject sense (a form of recreational and tourist non-professional entrepreneurship of rural residents in rural areas while preserving their natural and cultural identity with a demonstration of traditional rural lifestyle) and in a broad sense (any forms of leisure time for tourists and excursionists in rural areas, as areas outside the city, including meadow-forest areas and water areas) was cleared up. In order to single out rural tourism accommodation establishments, it was proposed to follow the Minimum International Quality Standards of the European Rural Tourism Federation EuroGites, adapted to the types of settlements accepted in Ukraine. On the example of Poltava region the variety of offers of types of rural tourism estates as per prevailing services was summarized. According to open Internet sources and official data of Poltava regional and district state administrations, a map Estates and Services of Rural Tourism in Poltava Region was built; based on its analysis 6 centers of rural tourism of the region (Opishnya, Dykanka, Novy-Sanzhary, Velyka Bagachka, Kremenchug, Berezova Rudka) and their tourist specialization were singled out. Reshetylivka district is named as the most promising, but not realized in the sphere of rural tourism. Potential trends of rural tourism in Poltava region were determined.

This chapter aims to analyze the role that information and communication technologies (ICTs) have played in the processes of adaptation, learning, and tourist reactivation in rural areas, in the context of the pandemic caused by the spread of the zoonotic virus SARS-Cov-2. For this, a case study of the rural tourism offer was developed that includes the experiences of nine community tourism enterprises, settled in indigenous territories of the Central Mexican Highlands. The research approach was qualitative, and it was proposed to systematize the experiences that the enterprises have accumulated throughout the pandemic and during the process of social isolation. It is concluded that the use and exploitation of ICTs in rural areas is still incipient, in terms of their potential as tools for the promotion, marketing, and positioning of rural tourist destinations. It is necessary to overcome the technological gap in the context of the new socioeconomic characteristics that rural tourism will face, many of which will remain in force in the medium and long terms.

Multifunctionality in rural Brazilian: the tourism in wine region of the São Francisco Valley ABSTRACT This paper conducted an analysis of the practice of tourism in the northeast semiarid, specifically in the wine region in the states of Pernambuco and Bahia. For decades there was an appropriation of space for subsistence agriculture. Through the practice of modern agriculture and/or non-agricultural activities, the rural areas in Brazil have undergone transformations, including services like tourism that enables an improvement in life conditions when providing complementary income to the primary activities such as agriculture, livestock and extractivism. These services emerge in rural areas, establishing relations, changing its characteristics. São Francisco Valley develops irrigated agriculture seeking the aiming the national and international market, it has a peculiar climate since it needs to be irrigated due to the low rainfall. This way, it is possible to schedule and obtain 2,5 harvests a year. Stimulated by the agribusiness projects, the regions attract investments from international wineries, changing the dynamic of hinterland cities usually characterized by drought and low human development index. Relying on wine production, the government and businessmen focus on the organization of wine tourism. The aim is to analyze the tourist dynamic in the São Francisco Valley, studying new practices, flows and occupation in rural areas with the implementation of new tourist facilities. The research has a qualitative approached and was conducted through bibliographical analysis and field research developed by the participant observation technique with entrepreneurs, government and institutions related to wineries and tourism. Due to the tourism, the space has been recreated to fulfill the visitors’ needs and expectation, however it is still in the process of consolidation. Although the landowners are involved in the activity and getting benefits directly from development policies, these benefits are not experienced by the small producers, employees and local artisans. Therefore, the rural areas have an expressive dynamism and it is increasingly heterogeneous. This multifunctionality and diversification of rural areas constitute a new form of organization of these agricultural activities together with tourism. Wine tourism, as a model of sustainable economic development in certain areas, is able to boost the competitiveness of a territory, improve wine production, respect the environment, and improve the living conditions of citizens. In this sense, this work will present an overview of this type of tourism worldwide and nationally, focusing on the province of Malaga. The diversification of the tourist industry has promoted the appearance, or extension, of new tourist activities beyond the typical activities associated with beach or cultural tourism. This has resulted in new job creation and new income generation options. Wine tourism promises and delivers a complete sensory experience, as tourists experience the consumption of wine from all senses: taste, smell, touch, sight, and sound. This experience is not limited to the consumption of the wine, but also includes the experience of a visit to wineries or vineyards, together with the necessary lodging, depending on location. In this way, the grouping of activities and the development of tourist routes stimulate cooperation between different companies in rural areas. Thus, we propose that tourism is a means by which economic and social development can be achieved in these areas and regeneration strategies can be implemented.

Tourism in São Francisco de Paula, in Rio Grande do Sul [Brazil] has stood out and, due to its wide territory, the need to organize tourism in rural areas emerges. Otherwise, socioeconomic and environmental sustainability may be weakened, if the presence of tourism activity is disordered. Thus, tourist routing can be an ally in promoting local, sustainable development. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop a roadmap for rural tourism in São Francisco de Paula. The first step towards achieving this goal involved examining documents to obtain an overview of local tourism. The next two stages took place through a specific questionnaire addressed to entrepreneurs and tourists. Based on the data collected, an instrument for sustainable regional development was developed: a rural roadmap called ‘Encantos de São Chico’. The survey shows that both owners and tourists recognize the relevance of rural tourism to sustainable local development.
