Citizenship defines the belonging of individuals to the society in which they live. It is understood that the complementary notions of ethics and sustainability must permeate citizenship today. Citizenship will gain greater expression when the individual leaves the household to be inserted in society through the vote and  professional action. For this reason, the analysis of the profile of young people who are graduating from high school is representative. Thus, this analysis aims to characterize citizenship experiences in the city of Caçador-SC by looking at the reality of students of the third year of high school from the perspective of sustainability. Methodologically, the research is qualitative-quantitative as it uses mixed techniques. It is concluded that many young people are aware of the need for an ethical and sustainable life, but some habits still prevent them from engaging in committed actions towards the society expressed by these concepts.

How is the memory of the Holocaust and Auschwitz seen today among young Poles and Germans, is it different from that of the past? What are the differences in the memory space and education about the Holocaust between the two countries, and what do they have in common? The article is based on three pillars, and what served as foundations for them was a survey conducted with Polish and German youth in late April and May 2013, immediately after their visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau. The first part concerns the individual and family memory of young people from Poland and Germany, who came to the Memorial and Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau (MMA-B); there are also issues related to the intergenerational transmission of war fate of the relatives. The second pillar takes on teaching about the Holocaust at school and the evaluation of historical education from the student’s point of view. There are presented the opinions of many historians, teachers and educators struggling with the effects of the reform of history teaching. The third and most extensive part of the article presents the issues related to historical education in the memorial site and young people confronting their past experience, knowledge, notions with the authenticity of MMA-B. Fundamental questions has been raised about the sense of maintaining authenticity of the memorial site and the reason that makes the memory of the Holocaust such an important task for future generations.

Within a large city… it would be most unwise to attempt to say what is the correct curriculum or organization of all the high schools under the management of the city school board… I am convinced American secondary education can be made satisfactory without any radical changes in the basic pattern. This can only be done, however, if the citizens in many localities display sufficient interest in their schools and are willing to support them. The improvement must come school by school and be made with due regard for the nature of the community (Dr. James Conant, The American High School Today, 1959).Educational opportunity must be equal for all young people, regardless of the neighborhood they live in and the school they attend (Dr. Ruth Wright Hayre, Principal, William Penn High School for Girls, 1961).

The culture of reading, and interests of students in the school reading, changes from generation to generation. We have opted for gymnasium students of the third and fourth grade because we regard them as active readers with developed reading tastes and habits. Students who have home libraries and are surrounded by books, and whose parents have a higher level of education, read more on average than those who have no books at home and live in a less developed cultural and economic environment. Information about student literary interests is set as a methodological requirement and growing scientific attention is paid to it. The paper analyses the research findings on reading interests of students of the third and fourth grade of the general secondary education in schools in the City of East Sarajevo. All data should indicate: the level of reading culture that has been achieved; whether students regularly read the required reading and works outside the compulsory programme; which topics they are interested in; which works they prefer to read; and whether there are differences in interests depending on the gender of students, their academic achievements, and family and socioeconomic opportunities. The method of systematic empirical non-experimental research was applied.

The article touches upon specifics and features of students' perception of image of modern Volgograd. In the framework of the study the author interprets the image of the city as a complex structured phenomenon including people's subjective and stereotyped representations of socio-cultural, historical, socio-economic, political and other features of the territory. These representations can be formed both on the basis of specific emotions, personal impressions, and indirectly, from the materials of mass media, literary and cinematic sources, based on eyewitness stories, rumors and conjectures. At the same time, as the world experience shows, the economic development of this territory, the efficiency and legitimacy of political institutions, the state of the tourism industry, cultural life and demographic situation directly depend on how attractive the image of the city is for its residents and other members of society. Being a sophisticated and multi-component organization that can have a strong impact not only on the individual, but also on the mass perception and experience of the place and its identification, the image of the provincial city greatly affects the life strategies and migration attitudes of its residents. Especially it is true for young people and working population – graduates of schools and universities, young professionals. The authors describe the essence of the image positioning of the territory and the most important reasons for the wide spread of such practices, determines the value attitude of young people to Volgograd, proposes measures to improve the current image of the city. The researchers apply the results of quantitative and qualitative sociological research such as a questionnaire survey of students enrolled in 1–4 courses of various education fields of Volgograd State Socio-pedagogical University, interviews with experts.

This paper aims to map out practices of political financing in Indonesia from the political to the socio-historical perspective. Arguing about the party financing and the corruption of politicians and the parties, this paper also proposes about strategies at the individual level for performing financing politics, as well as factors that help to explain their performance. It compares cases in three different periods of Indonesian history: the post-independence, the Suharto (New Order) era, and reformasi after the fall of Suharto in 1998. This paper discusses and analyses the financing politics belonging to the political and socio-historical perspective, the issue of financing politics, the results of mapping students theses from three universities in Java together with relevant papers by LIPI (the Indonesian Sciences Institute), and directly presents three case studies of individual performing financing politics. Two of the case studies concern with politicians from the post-independence and Suharto era, while the third concerns a member of the city of Solo's local parliament. This paper shows how financing politics would be no longer relevant, as the cultural capital, political capital, and social capital also may contribute in supporting one's political career.
