Casualization of labour in the world and indeed Nigeria is against the tenets of labour and this has caused continuous conflict between workers, labour unions, and employers across organizations in Nigeria and the world over. It is even more appalling to note that casual workers are barred from unionizing (trade union), denying them access to certain benefits in the organization. This is the essence to which the paper undertakes to examine the “impact of casualization on workers’ performance”. The objective of this study is to examine if casualization of work affects the productivity and output of casual workers. Descriptive survey research design was adopted in this study, the population of the study was from Coca-cola Bottling company (food and beverages), and Lolitta Manufacturing company makers of X-pression Hair product (Cosmestics industry) selected using simple proportion and random sampling techniques. The sample size was 152 respondents. Data was collected using structured questionnaire. Correlation and Regression tools were used to analyze the data. Results shows that casualization policy (absence of leave and leave allowance, absence of injury compensations and other social benefits) affects performance and effectiveness of casual workers. The study recommends stringent measures to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Casualization Prohibition Bill, 2010 leading to equal rights to all workers. This study further suggest a maximum period of six (6) month probation upon which all casual workers are converted to permanent staffs across organizations in Nigeria. The study also suggest that defaulting organizations are made to face the penalty irrespective of the status of the organization or owners. This way, organizations in Nigeria will attain acceptable human resources practices status as stated by ILO.

Pumping elephantThe COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the lives of people around the world in millions of ways . Due to this severe epidemic, all countries in the world have been affected by all aspects, mainly economic. It is widely discussed that the COVID-19 outbreak has affected the world economy. When considering this dimension, this study aims to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world economy, socio-economics, and sustainability. In addition, the research focuses on multiple aspects of social well-being during the pandemic, such as employment, poverty, the status of women, food security, and global trade. To this end, the study used time series and cross-sectional analysis of the data. The second-hand data used in this study comes from the websites of major international organizations. From the analysis of secondary data, the conclusion of this article is that the impact of the pandemic is huge. The main finding of the thesis is that the social economy is affected by the pandemic, causing huge losses in terms of economic well-being and social capital.

In the huge and most diverse discussion on the influence of the English language as a second, international, or bridge language, there are distinctive voices drawing attention to the fact that this language as nowadays so widely used in innumerable contexts, is no longer ‘owned’ by the community of speakers to whom it is mother language, those primarily of the countries from where English language originates. Moreover, the number of people speaking, or rather using English language today either as their second or foreign language, by far outnumbers people to whom it is native. Situation being such, it is further claimed the concept of ‘standard English’ reflects inherent inequality stance, for if it belongs to everyone speaking it, then insisting on the supremacy on only one of its variants means placing all those speakers of it in a subdued position, and this possibly being yet another facet of English an agent of neocolonialism and globalization (Pennycook 1998, Phillipson 1992). The spread of the English language has been much investigated as oppressive to the formation and expression of personal and collective identities, degrading national languages and through globalization diminishing the impact of local cultures (Bhaba 1990), that it challenges cultures and discourses, being the impetus for continuous re-codification and re-colonisation (Foucault 1980). However, equally significant in relevance and number, the opposing views claim English today offers an expanded community of users enabling new ways of expressing, changing, negotiating voices that offer chances for cultural renewal and exchange around the world, that the awareness of this brings “decolonizing of the colonizers mind” (Penycook 2013). Taking the flip side of the situation, English language natives are noted to be in a paradoxical situation of being expatriates from their own language, themselves “co-victims” (Bratlinger 1990). This insurgent knowledge of the status of English language today is certainly to instigate further investigation, ‘writing back’ of what ontology this language now embodies.

The study aims to examine the impact of training and development on effectiveness and loyalty among workers of Transmission Company of Nigeria, Osogbo, Osun State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The study collected data through a structured questionnaire which contained three sections for demographic variables, Employee Training and Development Scale, and Employees' Effectiveness and Loyalty Scale respectively. 80 respondents were selected through the use of random sampling techniques across the establishment. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyses the data. The hypotheses were tested with Pearson Product Moment Correlation and regression analysis. Hypothesis one revealed a positive correlation between employee training & development and employees’ effectiveness. The result of the second hypothesis indicated a positive correlation between training & development and employees loyalty. The study recommended regular intensive training to achieve the company's objectives through staff effectiveness. Management should also focus on innovative developmental programmes and policies for employees to be more loyal.

This chapter examines the controversy's real or assumed moral and political aspects. Moral repugnance inflected the scientific judgments of Oppenheimer's General Advisory Committee, triggering discussion of the relative moral significance of thermonuclear bombing, the use of the atomic bomb, and the mass urban bombing campaigns of 1942–1945. More immediate concerns centered on the impact a decision to develop thermonuclear weapons might have on the pattern of international relations. Given a paucity of intelligence, the effects on the Soviet Union's own weapons program, and thereby on the United States' vulnerability, could only be guessed at. The chapter thus considers if the development of the Super would restore the status quo ante-1949 or lead to a thermonuclear arms race and ultimate stalemate—or even the end of the world.

With widespread adoption of ICT usage in public service delivery platforms (e-Government) throughout the world, African countries have vowed not to be left behind in this marathon. Robust e-Government adoption depends on the strategy employed to implement it. This paper presents the different initiatives that have been employed to promote e-Government development and development in Botswana, Mozambique and Malawi thereby showing the impact of such initiatives on overall e-Government agenda. Using extensive document and literature reviews, this paper further intends to investigate the status of e-Government implementation in these three countries and understand the multi-dimensional factors that dictate adoption and use of e-Government services. The paper has found that deliberate fiscal ICT policies, trust of e-applications, availability of ICT infrastructures such as appropriate mobile phone and base stations technology, usability of ICT platforms, and relevant ICT skills of ordinary citizens have a lasting positive impact on people’s intention to engage in e-Government.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to challenge the constructs regularly used by organisations around the world for the development of leadership. Design/methodology/approach This is an opinion piece based on direct observation of hundreds of organisations over the years. Findings The regular approaches used for the development of leadership skills in organisations have consistently failed to deliver against its promise. Moreover, it is often the case that organisations pursue new “solutions” to bridge the leadership gap, often to discover that their new approach not only failed to develop the skills needed but also had the side effect of distracting vast amounts of attention. This paper describes what, if not the various taxonomies that describe, “good leadership” looks like really and how it delivers sustainable and effective leadership transformation. Originality/value This piece challenges the status quo, offering a more powerful way of connecting people with the purpose of their work, increasing the impact that individual leadership could have in the creation of value for all stakeholders, including themselves.

The subject of the research is a set of institutions and mechanisms of a system of effective foreign trade activity in the world and in Ukraine in the conditions of crisis and state regulation. The goal of writing this article is to develop prac- tical, scientific, and methodological recommendations to improve the efficiency of foreign trade of Ukraine. The methodology of the work is a system-structural and comparative research (to understand the logic of the functioning of international institutions regulating trade in the world); monographic analysis (when studying the problems of improving the model of international specialization of the Ukrai nian economy); statistical and economic analysis (in assessing the status and pros- pects of export-import operations of the Ukrainian economy). Results of work–it was revealed that the modern model of international specialization of the Ukrai- nian economy is unpromising and unstable to crisis phenomena. It is proposed to systematically increase the manufacturability and innovativeness of domestic ex- porters, which will contribute to sustainability and competitiveness in foreign markets, even during times of crisis. In addition, it is necessary to introduce an updated state macroeconomic and financial investment policy in Ukraine to reduce the impact of crisis in the economy and improve the export-import balance of trade. Conclusions–a targeted policy is needed to support the export activity of Ukrai- nian enterprises and focus on innovation and finding new markets. In this context, a combination of macroeconomic and financial-investment state support for export promotion is necessary; as well as the introduction of tax and customs instruments for export support, trade facilitation and regulatory requirements to reduce the transaction costs of exporters, the intensification of technical assistance and fi- nancial support for exports, the development and institutionalization of mechanisms for information, legal and methodological support for exporters.

In the essayistic mode, the performance of selfhood frequently questions the logic of subjectivity and its relation with the world. Taking up this core property of the essay film, this chapter explores its potential to further ecocritical approaches in film studies. It asks how grappling with non-human themes and aesthetics might further complicate and rethink not just the sovereign subject in documentary, but the status of the human more fundamentally. These questions are taken up through a close reading of Patricio Guzmán’s The Pearl Button (El botón de nácar, Chile, 2015), a film that examines post-dictatorship Chile by criss-crossing multiple spheres of interest, including the events of the military dictatorship, cultures and the impact of colonialism, astronomy, Chilean natural geography, with water as structuring concern across all.

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of covid-19 pandemic school close down on the research programme of higher institutions in Abuja, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was used for the study and 4 research questions was developed for the study. Random sampling method was used to select 120 researchers in the four sampled institutions. The instrument used for collection of data was a structured questionnaire. Result collected revealed that 100% of the respondents agreed that Covid-19 pandemic school closure have impact on research program of higher institutions in FCT, 100% of the respondents agreed that Covid-19 pandemic will affects the flow of international research grants into higher institutions in FCT, 92% of the respondents agreed that Covid-19 pandemic will affects government funding of research higher institutions in FCT and 100% agreed that higher institutions as part of their community services by creating awereness to the general public on prevention of covid-19.The study also showed that 100% of the respondents agreed that higher institutions in Federal Capital Territory are collaborating with other institutions on the research for covid-19 vaccine while 69.17% of the respondents agreed that higher institutions in FCT are producing face masks for free distributions for the people to protect them from containing the covid-19 in Abuja. Based on this finding, this paper thereby recommends that government should increase the funding of research programme in Abuja and other higher institutions in the country.

The author has outlined the main violations of women's rights in Ukraine, including in the security and defense sector. The author emphasizes that the process of introducing gender equality in the security sector of Ukraine has certain specifics. The author has identified the impact of armed conflicts on men and women and the main problematic issues that arise in the work of women law enforcement officers and affect her "self-concept". The main problems that occur in the professional environment of law enforcement include the following: service relationships in the "vertical" and "horizontal", competition between women and men, identity crisis. The main international documents that enshrine the equal rights of women and men, and areas for strengthening the role of women in the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are analyzed. The main problems that cause gender imbalance in military service include: the presence of gender and corporate stereotypes, insufficient regulation of administrative and living conditions, restrictions on women's social rights in compliance with current legislation on motherhood and childhood, the prohibitionof certain military professions for women , the lack of equal rights when entering military service at the stage of choosing education, the limited list of military positions to which women servicemen may be appointed, the difference in the status positions of servicemen-men and women during the change of service military service, different order of execution of punishments assigned to female servicemen and male servicemen. In order to achieve the principle of work-life balance, the author has recommended to consider five important aspects of life: health, relationships, career, self-improvement, leisure.
