This work focuses on the unusual, poetic affinity between the Uruguayan poet, Julio Herrera y Reissig (1875–1910), and the French poet, Albert Samain (1858–1900), that took shape in Julio Herrera y Reissig’s Spanish translation of some of Samain’s poems from his 1898 volume of poems Aux flancs du vase. Our objective is not to write a critical review of Herrera y Reissig's translations. Instead, we aim to identify the similarities between the two poets. Thus, our contrastive analysis will demonstrate the affinities between the French author and his Uruguayan translator. In this collection, Samain was able to transpose the emotions aroused in him by the radiant landscapes and by certain moments in his daily life into terse, sensual and harmonious verse. Even though his style did not in any way conform with the poetic world of Modernism, full of exotic fragrances, colours, swans and characters from the classic world, it gave Herrera y Reissig the opportunity to creatively rework the original text and produce some truly remarkable transformations. These poems in Alexandrine verse place nature centre stage, and the sensations shared by both poets are evoked by their choice of colours and fragrances, by their combinations of sound and the profusion of images of rare intensity.

This paper describes the compilation of the ACTRES Parallel Corpus, an English–Spanish translation corpus built at the Department of Modern Languages at the University of León (Spain) by the ACTRES research group. The computerisation of the corpus was carried out in collaboration with Knut Hofland and Øystein Reigem, from the Department of Culture, Language and Information Technology, Aksis, at the UNIFOB/University of Bergen (Norway). The corpus is conceived as a powerful tool for cross-linguistic research in the fields of Contrastive Analysis and Descriptive Translation Studies. It was the need to bridge the gap between these disciplines and to extend applications that encouraged the building of a parallel corpus as a suitable tool to achieve these goals. This paper focusses on the practical aspects of building the corpus. A brief account of the research which prompted this endeavour precedes the description of this process. 4 4 This paper is an account of the building of the ACTRES Parallel Corpus, so no empirical results from research done on the basis of the corpus are reported here. Translation as a cultural process can be used in various ways to suppress or promote ideologies. Within the framework of Critical Studies in Translation, this article examines the presence of the phenomenon of manipulation; that is, deliberate alteration of central topics and messages for ideological purposes, in the Spanish translation of the story The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde. It proposes that Wilde’s specific intent in using the fairy tale genre to battle heterosexism (the belief that heterosexuality is the only norm) is not transmitted in any of the Spanish versions of the story, since its English publication in 1888 to the twenty-first century.<p> The analysis proves that all twelve translations of the story found, included the famous translation by Jorge Luis Borges in 1910, manipulate the sex and sexuality of the characters by taking advantage of the commonly perceived ambiguities between the grammatical and cultural gender in Spanish. This is done in such a way that one of the messages of the story, the redemption of homosexual love and its acceptance by God, is omitted entirely to become, and promote, the standard and conventional view of sexuality that dominates contemporary Western tradition. The article finishes by pointing out the linguistic choices that need to be considered for a new translation of the story and provides the translation of a passage as an example.<p>

Unstructured data is outcome of various major business applications. Summarizing unstructured data is considered as a significant task in this era of smart digital evolution. Text summarization is basically done using the common approaches on the basis of certain predefined rules. Text summarization is a branch of text mining which helps in bringing together the main content of the text from the original text or document. This work was an attempt to understand the existing literature and make a critical review on the pros and cons of the methods used. A gap analysis is also included after inspecting various methods. A comparative study of intrinsic and extrinsic evaluation techniques is included. A methodology is proposed for text summarization using machine learning.

The goal of this paper is to analyse some segments of Ian McEwan's novel On Chesil Beach and their translation into Serbian. The main aim is to analyse to what extent the translator managed to transfer the meaning of the original text into Serbian. The translation is analysed on the semantic and pragmatic levels. The method used to compare and contrast the source text language and the language of the Serbian text is contrastive analysis. The obtained results of the analysis show that the message of the original text was in most cases successfully transferred into Serbian.

Any language in the world wide has different expressions and terms that convey approval or disapproval that language speakers may use in their daily life. English language for instance, is full of such expressions and can be found in any situation needs to. The present research studies approval and disapproval in English with their counterparts in Arabic as a contrastive study. It tries to search for those terms or sentences that are used to express approval and disapproval in English with their counterparts in Arabic. It aims to highlight the points of similarities and differences between those expressions that are used to state approval and disapproval in the two languages. Also the study includes a contrastive analysis to the expressions of approval and disapproval in English with their equivalents in Arabic in order to come up with the conclusions. It concluded that the approval and disapproval expressions in English language are similar to their counterparts in Arabic language but differ in two points. Firstly in Arabic language main verbs are used to convey approval and disapproval whereas in English are not. Secondly, in English language the exclamatory style is used to express approval in contrast, Arabic language is not. Researchers, teachers, translators and any who cares about English language and linguistics can get benefit from this study, precisely because it includes a comparison between two languages, English language and Arabic, with several types of expressions and terms that are being actually used to express approval and disapproval.

Resumo: Este artigo tem por objetivo apresentar uma análise de Partido, espetáculo teatral do grupo Galpão, de Belo Horizonte, concebido a partir do romance O visconde partido ao meio, de Italo Calvino. Com dramaturgia de Cacá Brandão e direção de Cacá Carvalho, o espetáculo, tratado aqui como uma tradução da obra do escritor italiano, contribuiu para a recepção de Calvino no Brasil. Do texto para o palco, houve um trabalho de transformação que permitiu ao Galpão ir além do livro de Calvino, em alguma medida rompendo com ele. A palavra escrita traduziu-se em uma linguagem que privilegiou o corpo e as experiências de vida dos atores. A tradução foi lida a partir do pensamento de Walter Benjamin, Paul Ricouer e Haroldo de Campos, ressaltando o trabalho do grupo mineiro como uma poética de tradução pautada na produção da diferença.Palavras-chave: O visconde partido ao meio; tradução; teatro; grupo Galpão.Abstract: This paper aims to present an analysis of the play Partido, performed by the theatrical group Galpão, from Belo Horizonte, and conceived from the novel The cloven viscount, by Italo Calvino. With dramaturgy by Cacá Brandão and directed by Cacá Carvalho, the show, perceived here as a translation of Calvino’s work, contributed to the reception of the italian writer in Brazil. From the text to the stage, creators worked on transforming the original text in such a way that allowed Galpão to surpass the book, subverting it in some way. The written word was translated into a language that favored actors’ bodies and life experiences. The translation was analyzed from the thoughts of Walter Benjamin, Paul Ricouer and Haroldo de Campos, highlighting the Minas Gerais group work as a poetic translation based on the production of the different.Keywords: The cloven viscount; translation; theater; Galpão group.

The article is devoted to the problem of punctuation transmission in poetic translation. Punctuation helps to understand the written form of the text. The structure, meaning, and intonation of the utterance dictate the setting of the necessary punctuation mark. In poetic works, punctuation also serves the purpose of highlighting or emphasizing the most significant elements. The search for adequate means of conveying intonation and highlighting semantic segments leads to a combination of various additional ways of formatting the text. The individual style of a writer or poet in a literary text is conveyed through stylistically significant marks of the author's punctuation. The translator must decide whether to keep the author's punctuation, omit it, or include the punctuation marks of the receiving language in the translation. Poetic translation often leads to a significant rearrangement of the text, in which the punctuation component refers to other speech segments than in the original text, what was shown by the example of translations of I. Bunin's poetic works.

This paper describes the application of a target-oriented contrastive analysis model to an extensive corpus of medical research articles. The analysis focuses on the Methods section and a subset of lexical items representing persons viewed as the object of clinical study. Quantitative contrastive analysis revealed statistically significant differences between the translations from English and the independently created Spanish texts in all the thematic, syntactic and lexical variables analysed. Qualitative contextual analysis showed that four basic criteria for thematic position and a series of associated translation strategies are capable of correcting the excesses and deficits observed, thus producing a more natural and acceptable target language text.

In September 1960 a hundred years will have passed since the appearance of Jacob Burckhardt's Kultur der Renaissance in Italien. No other work has had a comparable influence on the formation of the concept of die Renaissance, and during the last one or two generations it has become an historical classic read in all western countries. Since the re-publication of Burckhardt's original text by Walter Goetz in 1922, one German reprint has followed another. After the second World War the early Italian and English translations began to share in this ever-growing popularity (America has seen three new editions recendy), while the first Spanish translation came out in South America in 1942.
