Honey is a product produced by bees which is believed has many benefits in the medical field. Wild honeys are more natural than livestock honey, and it has high antimicroba activities, but the effect of the antimicroba towards the bacteria on the positive widal blood culture of Enterobacteriaceae familia member was not clear yet. This research was to find out The effectiveness of wild honey in inhibiting the growth of bacteria on the positive widal blood culture of Enterobacteriaceae familia member. Method in this research was an experimental research which was using combination of diffusion and draw well method using Klebsiella pneumonia, Esherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Serratia marcescens, and Enterobacter cloacae bacteria sample. Wild honey as a test solution with a 25%, 40%, 55%, 70%, 85% and 100% concentrate. The result is that wild honey is effective to inhibit the growth of the Enterobacteriaceae bacteria familia, the inhibition zone which is performed on the 70% Nutrien Agar Plate (NAP) concentrate medium is a minimal concentrate that sensitive to all bacteria with the  inhibition zone similar to Kloramfinekol antibiotics. S. typhi is sensitive to all wild honey concentrate within 26,5mm, 29mm, 31,5mm, 32mm, 35mm, and 38mm inhibition zone. Wild honey on E.coli and Serratia marescens is sensitive in all concentrate except on the 25% concentrate. On the Klebsiella pneumonia the wild honey is sensitive on the 70%, 85%, and 100% concentrate while on the Enterobacter cloacae the wild honey is sensitive on 55%, 70%, 85% and 100% concentrate. Conclusion : wild honey is effective to inhibit bacteria growth on the positive widal blood culture of Enterobacteriaceae familia member and there are effect of various wild honey concentrate with the growth of Enterobacteriaceae bacteria which the higher concentrate of the wild honey, the greater inhibition potency towards the bacteria.

Honey and cinnamon are plant products that have many properties, one of which is used as an antibacterial agent for various diseases. The effectiveness of the two active substances against bacteria in the Enterobacteriaeae family is unclear. The study was conducted to determine the differences in the effectiveness of forest honey and cinnamon in inhibiting the growth of bacteria in the Enterobacteriaceae family. This research method is an experimental study with a combination method of diffusion and wells using samples of the bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae, Esherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Serratia marcescens, and Enterobacter cloacae. Forest pure honey and cinnamon were prepared as test solutions with concentrations of 25%, 40%, 55%, 70%, 85% and 100%. The results obtained were the inhibition zone formed on Nutrient Agar Plate (NAP) media, in forest pure honey the inhibition zone formed in S. typhi, E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Serratia marcescens, and Enterobacter cloacae was greater at 100% concentration, namely 30.5mm, 32.5mm, 38mm, 29.5mm, 26mm, while the 100% concentration of cinnamon showed results, namely 12mm, 10mm, 8.5mm, 11mm, and 11mm. Conclusion is Forest pure honey was more effective at inhibiting bacteria from the Enterobacteriaceae family than cinnamon.

Cinnamon has a high activity of antibacterial. Still, the antibacterial effect toward the bacteria on the positive Widal blood culture of Enterobacteriaceae family members was not clear yet. This research aimed to find out the inhibition of cinnamon on the growth of bacterium on the positive Widal blood culture of Enterobacteriaceae family members. The method used in the research was experimental research which was using the draw well method and using Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Serratia marcescens, and Enterobacter cloacae bacteria samples. Cinnamon as a test solution with a 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% concentrate. The research result was showed the inhibiting zone was able to form on the Nutrient Agar Plate (NAP) on growth of the Enterobacteriaceae, 10% concentrate that high sensitive showed to S. typhi, Ser. marcescens, E. cloacae, E.coli, and Kleb. pneumonia squent was 12 mm, 11 mm, 11 mm, 10 mm, and 8,5 mm. At the same time, 8%, 6%, 4%, and 2% concentrate of cinnamon could not perform inhibition zone 100 µl of the test solution with chloramphenicol as a positive control.

This study was carried out from November 2016 to March 2017. One hundred sixty study samples were collected from the students of the university weekly, which were studied by conducting bacteriological tests on them within 24 hours from the date of collecting the sample, the results of the study showed the isolation and diagnosis of different bacterial species with varying prevalence rates. The Escherichia coli showed the highest incidence of 50% followed by Enterococcus fecalis 36.2%, Pseudomonas aeuroginosa 34.8%, Enterobacter cloacae 26.8%, Staphylococcus aureus had a prevalence rate of 22.5%. Salmonella typhi had a prevalence rate of 16.6%. Proteus mirabilis showed an average prevalence of 12%. Klebsiella pneumonia was 9.4%, while Vibrio parahaemolyticus and showed the lowest incidence of 0.7%. The results of the study showed that the total number of infected cases was 138 of the studied samples, 86.2%, distributed among 80(50%) in female infection cases, and In males (58) infection cases, a rate of 36.2%.

Objectives: The objectives of the study were to study the antibacterial activity for the various extracts of Clausena dentata against human pathogens. Clausena (Rutaceae) is a genus of about 23 species of unarmed trees and shrubs. The stem bark of C. dentata is used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of wounds and sprains. Even though C. dentata has a lot of potential medical uses, the study of microbiological properties is very scarce. Methods: The plant C. dentata was collected from Kadagaman, near Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India, and authenticated by Centre for Advanced Study in Botany, University of Madras, Chennai. The dry powder of stem bark was extracted with hexane, chloroform, and methanol. The extracts were subjected to qualitative phytochemical screening and antibacterial activity against human pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella Typhi, Klebsiella pneumonia, Vibrio cholerae, and Staphylococcus aureus and compared with ciprofloxacin. Results: Qualitative chemical tests revealed the presence of various phytochemicals such as alkaloids, glycosides, carbohydrate, proteins and amino acids, phytosterols, and volatile oil. The antibacterial activity result reveals that all the extracts were are more active against V. cholerae. The activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa was mild. Conclusion: The activity against V. cholerae was comparable with that of 5 μg/mL ciprofloxacin at the concentration of C. dentata 40 μg/mL. The orders of antibacterial activity against human pathogenic bacteria are hexane, methanol, and chloroform extract of C. dentata.

Abstract Background Asparagus flagellaris leaves are ethnomedicinally used to treat syphilis, gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), with no reports on the volatile constituents. This study was aimed to quantitatively and qualitatively characterise the composition of essential oil, evaluates the free radical scavenging and antimicrobial capacity of the essential oil. Methods The essential oil was isolated by hydrodistillation method using all-glass Clevenger-type apparatus, while the identification and quantification of constituents were performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique. The antioxidant activity on 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was evaluated and the oil was also tested against 10 strains of microorganisms consisting of 6 bacteria: Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis and 4 fungi: Candida albicans, Penicillium notatum, Aspergillus niger and Rhizopus spp. using broth dilution and surface plate methods, respectively. Results A pale yellow essential oil with a characteristic scent was obtained, with a yield of 0.80% (w/w). A total of 28 compounds accounting for 97.41% of the total oil contents were identified. The oil was predominated by Thymol and its derivatives, accounting for 57.48%. The most abundance (% area) constituents of the essential oil were 5-Thymyl tiglate (18.49%), Thymyl-2-methyl butyrate (17.34%), Thymol hydroquinone dimethyl ether (10.52%), Thymol methyl ether (9.42%) and 5-Propyl-1, 3-benzodioxole (4.59%). The essential oil showed a significant free radical scavenging activity compared to the standard antioxidant drugs used in this study, with % inhibition varying from 88.06 ± 0.0001 to 93.05 ± 0.0006. The leaf essential oil exhibited antimicrobial activity on all the tested organisms at 500–125 μg/mL, with an 18–10 mm inhibitory zone. Conclusion The leaf essential oil of A. flagellaris contains notable chemical compounds responsible for its antioxidant and antimicrobial activities.

A couple of natural coumarins was identified in the seeds of two apples’ cultivars commonly known as Granny Smith and Red Delicious. The effect of the phenolic hydroxyl moieties found in these products was evaluated on the bioactivity. This evaluation included the structural alteration of these moieties into less hydrophilic ones to explore the significance of the parent moieties on the biological activity. The investigated biopotentials were antioxidant, antiproliferative, antibacterial, and antifungal effects. The antioxidant potential was investigated by detecting the ability of the natural and semisynthetic coumarins to trap the free hydroxyl and DPPH radicals. The antiproliferative potential was assessed via an MTT-depended assay versus eight cancerous-cell lines, included HeLa, SK-OV-3, AR42J, MCF-7, AB12, KYSE-30, LC540, and AMN3. The antibacterial potential was tested versus six common pathogenic bacterial strains via a well-defined disc diffusion assay. These pathogens were Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Klebsiella pneumonia, Haemophilus influenzae, Shigella dysenteriae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antifungal potential was also screened by utilizing a similar microbiological technique versus three pathogenic fungi, involved Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus, and Aspergillus niger. It is concluded that the investigated chemical moiety has a positive influence on the antioxidant and antiproliferative potentials of the natural derivatives, and a negative one on their antibacterial and antifungal potentials.

Yogurt merupakan minuman susu yang difermentasi dengan menggunakan bakteri asam laktat Lactobacillus bulgaricus dan Streptococcus thermophyllus sebagai starter. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui kemampuan tertinggi dari yogurt berbasis air kelapa dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri pathogen (Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Klebsiela pneumonia dan E.coli) secara in vitro. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan empat perlakuan dan empat ulangan. Keempat perlakuan tersebut: Ko: susu skim 12%+air; K1: susu skim 12%+air kelapa gading; K2: susu skim 12%+kelapa gading bulan; K3: susu skim 12%+air kelapa hijau. Peubah yang diamati adalah aktivitas antimikroba yogurt terhadap bakteri pathogen (Salmonellatyphi, Staphylococcus, Klebsiella pneumonia dan E.coli), total plate count (TPC), total bakteri asam laktat dan E,coli. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas antimikroba tertinggi diperoleh pada yogurt berbasis air kelapa bulan terhadap bakeri Salmonella typhi dan Staphylococcus masing-masing sebesar 0,21 dan 0,26 cm dengan total bakteri asam laktat1,1×107 cfu/mL sedangkan untuk Klebsiella pneumonia dan E.coli diperoleh pada yogurt berbasis air kelapa gading sebesar 0,38 dan 0,64 mm dengan total bakteri asam laktat 3,1×106 cfu/mL.Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa yogurt berbasis air kelapa gading, bulan, hijau dan tanpa air kelapa memiliki aktivitas antimikroba berspektrum luas (menghambat bakteri gram positif dan negatif).

Background: Enterococcus faecalis is generally found on the failure of root canal treatments. Zinc oxide propolis is believed to have an antibacterial effect on that bacteria. This research aimed to compare bacteriostatic effect of zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE) and zinc oxide propolis (ZOP) as the sealer materials of root canal.Method: This was an experimental research with post-test only control group design with two different groups (ZOE and ZOP). Culture of Enterococcus faecalis bacteria was smeared on Blood Agar Plate media with six times replication per group and kept inside incubator for 24 hours. The result was obtained from the inhibition zone formed around the pasta.Result: The average result of ZOE and ZOP was 27.7 mm and 13.45 mm respectively. Normality test using Shapiro-Wilks showed that data was normal (p>0.05). Then, the data was analysed using Independent Samples T-test. The result showed that there was different inhibition zone between ZOE group and ZOP group (p<0.05).Conclusion: Based on the result, it can be concluded that ZOP has lower antibacterial effectiveness of the Enterococcus faecalis than ZOE.
