Background: Enterococcus faecalis is generally found on the failure of root canal treatments. Zinc oxide propolis is believed to have an antibacterial effect on that bacteria. This research aimed to compare bacteriostatic effect of zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE) and zinc oxide propolis (ZOP) as the sealer materials of root canal.Method: This was an experimental research with post-test only control group design with two different groups (ZOE and ZOP). Culture of Enterococcus faecalis bacteria was smeared on Blood Agar Plate media with six times replication per group and kept inside incubator for 24 hours. The result was obtained from the inhibition zone formed around the pasta.Result: The average result of ZOE and ZOP was 27.7 mm and 13.45 mm respectively. Normality test using Shapiro-Wilks showed that data was normal (p>0.05). Then, the data was analysed using Independent Samples T-test. The result showed that there was different inhibition zone between ZOE group and ZOP group (p<0.05).Conclusion: Based on the result, it can be concluded that ZOP has lower antibacterial effectiveness of the Enterococcus faecalis than ZOE.

Abstract: Generally, failures in root canal treatment are caused by the bacterium Enterococcus faecalis. Several studies using different types of herbs showed their inhibition effect on the growth of bacteria in the oral cavity. Coconut oil can be processed into pure coconut oil (virgin coconut oil, VCO) that contains lauric acid with its antibacterial effect. This study was aimed to determine the inhibitory effect of coconut oil on the growth of the bacteria Enterococcus faecalis. This was an experimental laboratory study with the post-test only control group design. We used a modified method of the Kirby-Bauer disk paper. Sample of VCO was made by using heating process. Enterococcus faecalis bacteria obtained directly from the patients’ necrotic pulps were identified at the Pharmaceutical Microbiology Laboratory, University of Sam Ratulangi Manado. The results showed that Enterococcus faecalis bacteria were identified in the samples. The inhibition zone of VCO to Enterococcus faecalis was 10 mm. Conclusion: Virgin coconut oil could inhibit the growth of Enterococcus faecalis.Keywords: virgin coconut oil (Virgin coconut oil), Enterococcus faecalis, inhibition zoneAbstrak: Pada perawatan saluran akar dapat ditemukan kegagalan perawatan yang disebabkan oleh bakteri Enterococcus faecalis. Terdapat beberapa penelitian mengenai berbagai jenis tumbuhan herbal yang telah dilakukan untuk menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri dalam rongga mulut, salah satunya yaitu tanaman kelapa yang dapat diolah menjadi minyak kelapa murni (virgin coconut oil, VCO) yang mengandung senyawa aktif asam laurat dengan efek antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya hambat VCO terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Enterococcus faecalis. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental laboratorium dengan post-test only control group design. Metode pengujian menggunakan metode modifikasi Kirby-Bauer dengan paper disk. Sampel minyak kelapa murni dibuat sendiri dengan proses pemanasan. Bakteri Enterococcus faecalis diambil langsung dari pasien nekrosis pulpa lalu diidentifikasi di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Farmasi FMIPA Universitas Sam Ratulangi Manado. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya bakteri Enterococcus faecalis pada sampel hasil identifikasi. Dari hasil uji daya hambat didapatkan minyak kelapa murni (Virgin coconut oil) memiliki efek antibakteri dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Enterococcus faecalis dengan zona hambat sebesar 10 mm. Simpulan: Virgin coconut oil dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Enterococcus faecalis.Kata kunci: VCO, Enterococcus faecalis, zona hambat

Abstract: Endodontics is the a type of treatment that aims to keep the teeth in function. Disinfection of the root canal is very important in endodontic treatment. Root canal disinfection can be done by giving the material a root canal medication. One of the bacteria that causes the failure of root canal treatment is the bacterium Enterococcus faecalis. The lemongrass essential oil contains geranial, neral, and mirsen which have antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative. This study aimed to determine whether the lemongrass essential oil was effective against bacteria Enterococcus faecalis. This was an experimental study using post test only control group design with agar plate diffusion method. Samples consisted of a group of lemongrass essential oil with several concentrations: 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, each consisted of 4 samples. The 16 control groups consisted of positive and negative groups. Diameter of inhibition was determined by the ability to inhibit Enterococcus faecalis cultured on MHA agar. The results showed that the average inhibitory diameter of 25% lemongrass essential oil was 2.60 mm; of 50% was 4.73 mm; of 75% was 4.50 mm; and of 100% was 5.34 mm. Conclusion: Lemongrass essential oil showed an antibacterial effect to inhibit the growth of bacteria Enterococcus faecalis.Keywords: enterococcus faecalis, lemongrass oil, antibacerialAbstrak: Endodontik merupakan salah satu jenis perawatan yang bertujuan mempertahankan gigi agar tetap dapat berfungsi. Disinfeksi saluran akar sangat penting dalam perawatan endodontik. Disinfeksi saluran akar dapat dilakukan dengan memberi bahan medikamen saluran akar. Salah satu bakteri yang menyebabkan kegagalan perawatan saluran akar ialah bakteri Enterococcus faecalis. Minyak atsiri sereh dapur mengandung geranial, neral dan mirsen yang memiliki aktifitas antimikrobapada gram positif dan gram negatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah minyak atsiri sereh dapur memiliki efek terhadap bakteri Enterococcus faecalis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan desain post test only control group design dan metode difusi lempeng agar. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari kelompok minyak atsiri sereh dapur dengan konsentrasi 25%, 50%, 75%, dan 100% yang masing-masing terdiri dari 4 sampel; 16 kelompok kontrol terdiri atas kelompok positif dan negatif. Diameter hambat ditentukan berdasarkan kemampuan menghambat Enterococcus faecalis yang dibiakkan pada media agar MHA. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan rata-rata diameter hambat minyak atsiri sereh dapur dengan konsentrasi 25% sebesar 2,60 mm, 50% sebesar 4,73 mm, 75% sebesar 4,50 mm, dan 100% sebesar 5,34 mm. Simpulan: Minyak atsiri sereh dapur memiliki efek antibakteri untuk menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Enterococcus faecalis.Kata kunci: enterococcus faecalis, sereh dapur, antibakteri

Periodontitis merupakan penyakit tertinggi keenam di seluruh dunia dengan Porphyromonas gingivalis sebagai salah satu bakteri penyebabnya. Daun kayu manis (Cinnamomum burmannii blume) menunjukkan beberapa aktivitas antimikroba, seperti antibakteri dan anti-jamur. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak Cinnamomum burmannii blume terhadap pertumbuhan Porphyromonas gingivalis. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah the post test only control group design. Bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis ditumbuhkan pada medium Blood Agar Plate (BAP) diberi perlakuan menggunakan ekstrak etanol Cinnamomum burmannii blume dengan konsentrasi sebesar 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, dan 50%. Pengulangan dilakukan sebanyak 5 kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol Cinnamomum burmannii blume tidak membentuk zona hambat di sekitar paper disc terhadap pertumbuhan Porphyromonas gingivalis pada semua konsentrasi. Ekstrak etanol Cinnamomum burmannii blume tidak memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap pertumbuhan Porphyromonas gingivalis

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hasil belajar siswa pada materi tata nama senyawa dengan menggunakan media permainan ular tangga. penelitian ini   menggunakan   metode   Pre-tes   Post-test   Control   Group   Design   dengan penelitian diambil dua kelas yaitu, pada kelas X-2 sebagai kelas kontrol dan X-4 sebagai kelas eksperimen. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas X semester genap SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin tahun ajaran 2016/2017. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan metode tes, dokumentasi dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data data menggunakan uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, uji t dan uji N-Gain. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian pada materi tata nama senyawa kelas X SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin  bahwa terdapat perbedaan hasil belajar yang signifikan  antara siswa yang menggunakan media pembelajaran permainan ular tangga dengan yang tidak menggunakan media permainan ular tangga yaitu thitung> ttabel (4.792 > 2.000) maka H0  ditolak dan Ha  diterima. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan hasil belajar siswa pada materi tata nama senyawa yang menggunakan   media  permainan  ular  tangga.   Hal   ini   membuktikan   bahwa implementasi media pemainan ular tangga pada materi tata nama senyawa efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada kelas X SMA Negeri 10 BanjarmasinThis study attempted to know the result of student learning on nomenclature of compounds topic by using snake and ladder game media. This research used pre-test post-test control group design by taking two classes as sample, class X-2  as the controlled class and  X-4 as the experimented  class. Research population was students of class X in SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin on the  second  half  of  semester  in  academic  year  2016/2017.  Data  collection techniques used were test, documentation and interview. Data analysis techniques were using normality test, homogeneity test, t test and the n-gain. Based on the research done to nomenclature of compounds topic in class X SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin, there were significant differences in learning outcome between students who used snake and ladder game learning media and those who did not use snake and ladder game with tcalculated  > ttable  (4.792 > 2,000) so then Ho  was rejected and Ha  was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there were significant differences in students’ learning outcome on nomenclature of compounds topic by using snake and ladder game learning media. This proved that the implementation of snake and ladder game media on nomenclature of compounds topic was effective to improve students’ learning outcomes in class X SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin.

Pendahuluan: Bahan irigasi yang biasa digunakan berasal dari bahan kimia dapat memberikan efek samping yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan obat tradisional. Penggunaan bahan yang berasal dari alam dapat dijadikan pilihan sebagai alternatif bahan irigasi saluran akar karena beberapa dari bahan tersebut dapat bersifat menghambat pertumbuhan (bakteriostatik) maupun membunuh bakteri (bakterisid). Tujuan Penelitian: Untuk mengetahui hubungan Ekstrak Sarang Semut (Myrmecodia pendens) sebagai bahan irigasi saluran akar dengan daya hambat bakteri Enterococcus faecalis. Bahan dan Metode: Menggunakan metode eksperimental laboratorium. Bentuk penelitian berupa Post test only control group design dan pengambilan sampel dengan Purposive Sampling menggunakan 4 perlakuan dan 5 kali pengulangan. Uji statistik menggunakan One Way Anova. Hasil: Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan diameter zona inhibisi dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Enterococcus faecalis pada ekstrak tanaman sarang semut (Myrmecodia pendens) konsentrasi 25% sebesar 21,10 ± 0,18. Hasil pada ekstrak tanaman sarang semut (Myrmecodia pendens) konsentrasi 50% sebesar 23,47 ± 0,24. Uji statistik memperoleh nilai signifikan p = 0,000 <? = 0,01. Kesimpulan: Hipotesis alternatif penelitian ini diterima dan hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan ekstrak tanaman sarang semut konsentrasi 25% dan konsentrasi 50% sebagai bahan irigasi saluran akar yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Enterococcus faecalis.

Enterococcus faecalis is a bacteria that commonly found in secondary root canal infections. Enterococcus faecalis is a gram-positive, facultative anaerobic bacteria. Langsat (Lansium parasiticum) is a natural ingredient that contains secondary metabolites and has antibacterial ativity. The aim of this study was to examine the inhibition effect of langsat fruit peel extract (Lansium parasiticum) to the growth of Enterococcus faecalis. This was a laboratory experimental study with post-only control group design. Langsat fruit peel extract with 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% concentration was using disc diffusion method on Mueller-Hinton Agar (MHA) and the inhibition zone was measured with a sliding caliper. The data were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whithney test. The result of this study was langsat fruit peel extract with 25%, 50%, 75% concentration showed a inhibition zone, while at 100% showed no inhibition zone. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there are significant differences (p <0.05) between all groups. The conclusion was langsat fruit peel extract (Lansium parasiticum) have weak inhibition effect of the growth of Enterococcus faecalis bacteria. The inhibition zone of concentrations 25% : 2,20 mm;  50%: 0,94 mm; 75%: 0,36 mm and 100% : 0,00 mm.

Abstract Infectious diseases can occur in all parts of the body. One of the causes infection in humans is Eschericiae coli bacteria. Eschericiae coli is a rod-shaped bacteria, a gram negative bacteria, facultative aerobics and classified family member of Enterobacteriaceae from the Gammaproteobacteria class. Along the times, E.coli bacteria have resistent to some antibiotics. So we need a new alternative. There is a antibacterial substance in the isoflavon group contained in edamame. Genistein is a main isoflavon in edamame that have antiinflammation, antibacterial, and antioxidant effects. The purpose of this study was to determine is there any antibacterial effects in ethanol edamame seeds extract to E.coli bacteria. This study used a true experimental research design in vitro with a post test only control group design.  The average diameter results of the inhibition zone were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis method and obtained p = 0.001 which means there are significant differences in at least two groups. After that, the Mann Whitney post hoc test was conducted and a significant difference was found in the positive and negative control groups for all groups but there was no difference in the treatment group, both groups K1, K2 and K3 for all groups. AbstrakSirih hijau (Piper betle L.) dan sirih merah (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) dipercaya memiliki khasiat mencegah penyakit infeksi saluran kemih yang disebabkan oleh Escherichia coli. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan perbedaan daya hambat ekstrak daun sirih hijaudan daun sirih merah terhadap pertumbuhan Escherichia coli. Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimental dengan desain post test only control group. Penelitian dilakukan di laboratorium mikrobiologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Andalas. Hasil penelitian adalah: 1. Efek daya hambat ekstrak daun sirih merah pada konsentrasi 2,5%, 5%, 7,5%, dan 10%, yaitu 0,6cm, 1,1cm, 1,2cm, dan 1,2cm; 2. Ekstrak daun sirih hijau tidak memiliki efek daya hambat pada konsentrasi 2,5%, 5%, 7,5%, dan 10%. Kesimpulan eksperimen ini adalah ekstrak daun sirih merah memiliki efek daya hambat lebih baik daripada ekstrak daun sirih hijau.Kata kunci: ekstrak daun sirih hijau, ekstrak daun sirih merah, escherichia coli, daerah bebas hambat AbstractGreen betel (Piper betle L.) and red betel (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) are trusted of possessing an efficacy of preventing urinary tract infection caused by Eschericia coli. The objective of this study was to explain the difference of inhibition zones between the green betel and the red betel towards the growth of Eschericia coli. The type of this research was experimental study with post test only control group design. This research was carried out in Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine Andalas University.The results of this research were: 1.The inhibition zones of red betel extract in concentration of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% were 0.6 cm, 1.1 cm, 1.2 cm, and 1.2 cm; 2. The extract of green betel had none of inhibition zones in concentration of of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%. Background. The prevalence of endodontic infection after root canal treatment caused by the Enterococcus faecalis bacteria ranged between 24-77%. It is caused by resilience and virulence from Enterococcus faecalis. An alternative  solution have to be done toward irrigation of root canal wall which is effective to kill bacteria. Kedondong Bangkok (Spondias dulcis Forst.) is one of the plants or natural substance potentially as an antibacteria. The antibacterial potencies of Kedondong Bangkok leaves extract (Spondias dulcis Forst.) against Enterococcus faecalis bacteria could be identified by determining Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimal Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). Purpose. This study is aimed to prove antibacterial potencies by identifying Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimal Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of Kedondong Bangkok leaves extract (Spondias dulcis Forst.) against Enterococcus faecalis bacteria. Method. This study is an experimental laboratories through research design of The Post Test Only Control Group Design. Value of MIC and MBC were known by counting the growth of Enterococcus faecalis bacteria by treating the leaves extract of Kedondong Bangkok  with concentration respectively 25%, 22,5%, 20%,17,5%, 15%, and 12,5% on nutrient agar media in CFU/ml. Result. In the concentration 12,5% there are 8.8% bacterial growth and in the concentration 15% there are no bacterial growth. Conclusion. Kedondong Bangkok leaf extract (Spondias dulcis Forst.) has an antibacterial potency against Enterococcus faecalis bacteria. The MIC shows in concentration of 12,5% and the MBC shows in concentration of 15%.

<strong>Latar Belakang: </strong><em>Enterococcus faecalis</em> adalah salah satu bakteri yang memiliki kemampuan dalam membentuk biofilm yang dapat menyebabkan infeksi persisten endodontik. Biofilm adalah kumpulan bakteri yang terorganisasi dengan baik yang melekat pada permukaan dan terlapisi oleh lapisan matriks ekstraselular polisakarida. Ekstrak daun mangrove <em>Acanthus ilicifolius </em>telah diketahui memiliki senyawa bioaktif yang berpotensi sebagai antibakteri seperti saponin, alkaloid, terpenoid, dan tanin. <strong>Tujuan:</strong> Untuk mengetahui efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak daun mangrove <em>Acanthus ilicifolius</em> terhadap biofilm <em>Enterococcus faecalis.</em> <strong>Metode</strong> : Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan desain penelitian <em>post test only control group design</em>. Sampel penelitian ini menggunakan bakteri <em>Enterococcus faecalis, </em>dibagi menjadi 6 kelompok, terdiri dari kontrol positif (NaOCL 2,5%), dan 5 kelompok perlakuan dengan konsentrasi ekstrak daun mangrove <em>Acanthus ilicifoliu</em>s yang berbeda yaitu 60 mg/ml; 70 mg/ml; 80 mg/ml; 90 mg/ml; dan 100 mg/ml dan dilakukan pengulangan sebanyak 8 kali. Bakteri <em>Enterococcus faecalis </em>dikultur pada media <em>TSBglu</em> diinkubasi selama semalam<em>.</em> Sebanyak 0,1 ml bakteri <em>Enterococcus faecalis</em> dengan konsentrasi 10<sup>6</sup> diisikan pada <em>microtiter plate</em> kemudian<em> </em>di cat dengan <em>crystal violet</em>.<em> </em>Biofilm diperiksa dengan mengukur <em>Optical Density</em> menggunakan ELISA <em>reader</em>. Analisis data menggunakan uji <em>One-way </em>ANOVA dilanjutkan dengan uji <em>Post Hoc</em>. <strong>Hasil:</strong> Pemberian ekstrak daun mangrove <em>Acanthus ilicifolius</em> menurunkan OD biofilm <em>Enterococcus faecalis</em> (p&lt;0,05) pada semua kelompok. <strong>Simpulan: </strong>Ekstrak daun mangrove <em>Acanthus ilicifolius </em>memiliki efektivitas antibakteri terhadap biofilm <em>Enterococcus faecalis</em>
