This study aims to evaluate the effects of eight weeks of resistance exercises on expression of neurotrophins and Trk receptors in Alzheimer model male Wistar rats. For this purpose, 32 mature male Wistar rats with mean weights of 230 to 280 g were chosen and divided into Alzheimer and Sham groups. Rats in the Sham group received normal saline while rats in the Alzheimer group received STZ via intraventricular injection. These rats were then divided into the following four subgroups: 1. Resting Sham, 2. Exercising Sham, 3. Resting Alzheimer, and 4. Exercising Alzheimer. The two exercising rat subgroups, exercised three times a week for a period of eight weeks. A weight was attached to their tails and they had to carry this weight on a 26-step ladder in each cycle. Resting groups were handled every day to minimize the effects of stress level. At the end of the 8th week and 24 hours after the last exercise session (to avoid the effects of the last exercise session), the rats were put under deep anesthesia and scarified by head separation. Hippocampus tissues were precisely extracted and samples were sent to laboratory for molecular and cellular tests. In order to investigate gene expression, Quantitative RT-PCR was used. Results of the tests for comparing the means of BDNF, NT3, NGF, TrkA, and TrkB in two rat groups showed that with error levels of less than 5% and confidence of over 95%, there is a significant difference in the amounts of BDNF, NT3, NGF, TrkA, and TrkB between exercising rats and resting rats. These amounts were much higher in exercising Alzheimer rats group. Eight weeks of resistance exercises increased the expression of BDNF, NT3, and NGF genes as well as TrkA and TrkB receptors in Alzheimer model Wistar rats.

<p>Liver is an organ with complex metabolism. When the liver is inflamed, cellular immunity will defend against inflammatory agents by stimulating immune cells to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS). Excessive ROS accumulation cause oxydative stress with increased  liver malondialdehyde (MDA) level. Some researches showed that purple sweet potato contain flavonoids (anthocyanins) that functioned as antioxydants. This study aimed to show the prophylactic effect of purple sweet potato extract to the liver MDA level of male Wistar rats induced by carrageenan.</p><p>This study used post-only control group method using 18 male Wistar rats divided into 3 groups: group of rats without treatment, group of rats induced by 0,1 ml of 1% carrageenan by intraplantar injection on day-8, and group of rats given with 872 mg/kgBW of purple sweet potato extract for 7 days and induced by 0,1 ml of 1% carrageenan. In the end of the study, the liver MDA levels were measured by Thio-Barbituric Acid method on each groups.</p><p>The results of One-Way ANOVA test showed there was no significant difference (p = 0,290) between group of rats without treatment (<em>x̅</em>= 207,50) and group of rats induced by carrageenan (<em>x̅</em>=233,17). Then, there is no significant difference (p = 0.978) between group of rats induced by carrageenan and group of rats given with prophylactic purple sweet potato extract and induced by carrageenan (<em>x̅</em>= 232,50).</p><p>The conclusion of this study is giving intraplantar injection of carrageenan can increase liver MDA level insignificantly and giving prophylactic purple sweet potato extract has an effect to decrease the liver MDA level of rats induced by carragenan insignificantly because it contains anthocyanins as antioxidants.</p><p> </p><strong>Keywords: </strong>Liver, <em>Ipomoea batatas</em> L., Malondialdehyde, Anthocyanins

Background: The process of wound healing is influenced by various factors such as age, hormones, and wound care. Wound care is done to accelerate wound healing which can be done by various methods, one of them is traditional care. Traditional wound care can use medicinal plants. Rhodomyrtus tomentosa is a medicinal plant that has an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and antibacterial content. Thus this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the antiseptic solution of the Rodhomyrtus tomentosa leaf extract on wound healing in male Wistar rats. Method: this research is pure experimental research with post test only control group design. Thirty male white rats were divided into five groups, namely negative control, positive control, Rhodomyrtus tomentosa leaf extract 15%, 30%, and 60%. Rhodomyrtus tomentosa leaf extraction was carried out by maceration method with 70% ethano solvent. The extraction results are divided into 3 concentrations (15%, 30% and 60%). The wound healing process was evaluated by measuring the length of the wound manually from 0 to 10 days in each group. Meanwhile, the number of fibroblast cells was calculated through hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining and observed using an Olympus CX41 microscope with a 10x magnification and objective lens magnification in 3 fields. Result: There was a significant difference in the reduction in wound length (p =< 0,000) between the five experimental groups (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa leaf extract solution 15%, 30% and 60%, negative control and positive control. Solution of rhodomyrtus tomentosa leaf extract accelerated the increase in the number of fibroblasts compared to the negative control group (p = 0.003), but did not make a difference (p = 0.403) with the positive control group. Rhodomyrtus tomentosa leaf extraction solution had the same microscopic effect on the number of fibroblasts with a positive control group given 0.9% NaCl solution. Conclusion: There was a significant difference in the number of fibroblasts between all groups, but no difference in wound healing length.

Abstract. Male Wistar rats were treated with rifampicin (10 mg/kg) daily for 5 days. After 6 days, the rats were killed and the testes homogenised in tris buffer. The microsomal fractions were incubated with [4-14C]4-progesterone, [4-14C]17-hydroxyprogesterone or [4-14C]-androstene-3,17-dione, respectively, and a NADPH generating system. In rifampicin-treated animals, less [4-14C]progesterone was recovered after incubation with testicular microsomes than in controls. There was no significant difference in the formation of 17-hydroxyprogesterone between rifampicin-treated animals and the controls; however, a significant increase was found in the androstenedione fraction (+ 83%) and the testosterone fraction (+ 48%) under the influence of rifampicin. When [4-14C]17-hydroxyprogesterone or [4-14C]4-androstene-3,17-dione were incubated, no differences in the metabolic pattern were observed between treated and untreated rats. These findings suggest that rifampicin stimulates the activity of 17α-hydroxylase in the microsomal fraction of rat testes, thus leading to an increased formation of testosterone and androstenedione; in contrast, the 17,20-lyase and 17β-hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenase remain unaffected by rifampicin.

Abstract Objectives To evaluate the effect of consumption of yacon flour, kefir and the association between them on colon cancer induced by 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) in male Wistar rats, SCFA production, fecal pH and intestinal permeability. Methods The study was conducted with 60 adult Wistar rats divided into 5 groups. For 5 weeks, groups T, Y, K and YK received 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) to induce colon cancer. After 5 weeks of DMH administration, animals in groups C and T received the standard diet, group Y received a diet with yacon flour with 5% FOS, group K received 1mL /day of kefir and the YK group received a diet with yacon and kefir, for 15 weeks. After euthanasia, intestinal lesions, intraluminal pH, short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and intestinal permeability were analyzed. Results An increase in macroscopic lesions was observed in groups K (58%) and YK (42%) and a reduction of 5% in group Y, compared to group T. In addition, an increase in neoplastic changes was observed in all groups compared to group T: Y (33%), K (67%) and YK (78%). There was no significant difference in the concentrations of acetate and proprionate, pH, lactulose and mannitol between groups, and butyrate was not found in the samples. Conclusions The consumption of yacon flour, kefir and their association did not influence intestinal physiology and promoted the worsening of the development of colon carcinogenesis in rats. Data jumlah neutrofil dianalisa dengan Two Way Anova. Neutrophil infiltration in rats with periodontitis after the granting of Ethanolic Extract Skin Mangosteen. Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by periodontopathic bacteria. When periodontitis occurs are followed by neutrophil infiltration. Mangosteen rind contains xanthone, an anti-inflammatory substance which inhibits the synthesis of PGE2 and therefore reduces inflammatory cells infiltration. This research aimed to study neutrophil cells infiltration in experimental-induced periodontitis rats after mangosteen rind ethanolic extract administration. Forty-eight male wistar rats were induced the periodontitis by putting silk ligature subgingivally around the neck of the anterior lower teeth for seven days. After the ligation had been taken out, the rats were divided into four groups and treated orally with mangosteen rind extract 60 mg/kg BB, 30 mg/kg BB, ibuprofen, and saline. The rats were sacrificed on the 1st, 3rd, 4th, seventh day after the treatment. Their anterior lower jaws were processed for paraffin embedded tissue, cut serially and stained with hematoxylin-eosin. The neutrophil cells were observed and counted under the microscope (400x). The data were analyzed using Anova. Anova result showed a significant difference among group (p<0,05) indicating that mangosteen rind ethanolic extract affected the number of neutrophils. In conclusion, mangosteen rind ethanolic extract reduced the number of neutrophil infiltration in periodontitis rats.

Chromolaena odorata is an invasive plant which is acclaimed to have cyanide remediation potential from contaminated sites. This examination means to decide the impact of ethanol concentrates of C. odorata (ECO), sodium thiosulphate and a mix of both on hematological parameters and blood lipid profile of rodents presented to potassium cyanide. (KCN). A sum of thirty five male Wistar rats partitioned into seven groups of five units were used. KCN Group rats were administered with KCN alone. Rats in 100ECO, 150ECO, 200ECO groups were administered with 100, 150 and 200 mg/kg body weight of ECO respectively. Rats under Na2sS2O3 and Na2S2O3+ECO groups were administered 200 mg/kg sodium thiosulphate and sodium thiosulphate with ECO at 200 mg/kg respectively. The trial was done in about a month. Toward the finish of the investigation, the packed cell volume (PCV), hemoglobin level (Hb), Red blood cells (RBC) and white blood cells (WBC) were resolved utilizing known biochemical methodology. The outcomes demonstrated a noteworthy increment (p ? 0.05) in PCV, Hb, RBC and WBC level of remedial groups when contrasted with the cyanide group. Total cholesterol (TC), and triglyceride (TG) were altogether lower while HDL-cholesterol was fundamentally expanded in all the treated groups when contrasted and the untreated group given cyanide alone. However, no significant difference in LDL-cholesterol was indicated in all therapeutic groups compared with the cyanide group. The study revealed that C. odorata at the tested doses was able to improve the hematological parameters and lipid profile in cyanide exposed rats.
