The ageing population increases the demand for customized home care. As a result, sensing technologies are finding their way into the home environment. However, challenges associated with how users interact with sensors and data are not well-researched, particularly from a design perspective. This review explores the literature on important research projects around sensors, design and smart healthcare in smart homes, and highlights challenges for design research. A PRISMA protocol-based screening procedure is adopted to identify relevant articles (n = 180) on the subject of sensors, design and smart healthcare. The exploration and analysis of papers are performed using hierarchical charts, force-directed layouts and ‘bedraggled daisy’ Venn diagrams. The results show that much work has been carried out in developing sensors for smart home care. Less attention is focused on addressing challenges posed by sensors in homes, such as data accessibility, privacy, comfort, security and accuracy, and how design research might solve these challenges. This review raises key design research questions, particularly in working with sensors in smart home environments.

In recent years, healthcare has attracted much attention, which is looking for more and more data analytics in healthcare to relieve medical problems in medical staff shortage, ageing population, people living alone, and quality of life. Data mining, analysis, and forecasting play a vital role in modern social and medical fields. However, how to select a proper model to mine and analyze the relevant medical information in the data is not only an extremely challenging problem, but also a concerning problem. Tuberculosis remains a major global health problem despite recent and continued progress in prevention and treatment. There is no doubt that the effective analysis and accurate forecasting of global tuberculosis prevalence rates lay a solid foundation for the construction of an epidemic disease warning and monitoring system from a global perspective. In this paper, the tuberculosis prevalence rate time series for four World Bank income groups are targeted. Kruskal–Wallis analysis of variance and multiple comparison tests are conducted to determine whether the differences of tuberculosis prevalence rates for different income groups are statistically significant or not, and a novel combined forecasting model with its weights optimized by a recently developed artificial intelligence algorithm—cuckoo search—is proposed to forecast the hierarchical tuberculosis prevalence rates from 2013 to 2016. Numerical results show that the developed combination model is not only simple, but is also able to satisfactorily approximate the actual tuberculosis prevalence rate, and can be an effective tool in mining and analyzing big data in the medical field.

Abstract:  This study aims to find out the results of physics learning between students who follow the learning with simple folding comic Physics with students who follow conventional learning in grade IX B students at MTs Nurul Ishlah Gegelang. This type of research is included in experimental quasi design research. The population used is all grade IX students in MTs Nurul Ishlah Gegelang. In this study, two classes were taken as a sample of research divided into experimental classes and control classes. obtained samples are class IX B MTs Nurul Ishlah Gegelang as an experimental group and class IX A MTs Nurul Ishlah Gegelang as a control group. Research data in the form of physics learning results in the cognitive sphere was collected using a test of learning results, this research using the design of Pretest-Posstes. The collected data were then analyzed using t-related tests to determine significant differences in learning outcomes between the two sample classes. Based on the results of the study obtained the initial ability of students for both groups is homogeneous shown by Fhitung < Ftabel (1.07 < 2.14) and the differences between the two groups are insignificant on the subject of energy changes with units and the final ability test ruler shown by thitung > ttabel (3,134 > 2,005), so Ha was accepted.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pngaruh hasil belajar fisika antara siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan komik lipat sederhana Fisika dengan siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional pada siswa kelas kelas IX B di MTs Nurul Ishlah Gegelang. Jenis penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian quasi eksperimental design. Populasi yang dipergunakan adalah seluruh siswa kelas IX di MTs Nurul Ishlah Gegelang. Pada penelitian ini diambil dua kelas sebagai sampel penelitian yang terbagi dalam kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. diperoleh sampel yaitu kelas IX B MTs Nurul Ishlah Gegelang sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelas IX A MTs Nurul Ishlah Gegelang sebagai kelompok kontrol. Data penelitian berupa hasil belajar fisika pada ranah kognitif dikumpulkan menggunakan tes hasil belajar, Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Pretest-Posstes. Data yang terkumpul selanjutnya dianalisis menggunakan uji-t related untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil belajar yang signifikan antara kedua kelas sampel. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh kemampuan awal siswa untuuk kedua kelompok adalah homogen yang ditunjukkan dengan Fhitung < Ftabel (1,07 < 2,14) serta perbedaan yang dimiliki antara kedua kelompok tidak signifikan pada pokok bahasan perubahan energi dengan satuan dan pengkuran  tes kemampuan akhir yang ditunjukkan dengan thitung  > ttabel (3,134 > 2,005), sehingga Ha diterima.

Existing study revealed that the children have dynamics spatial sense on objects. One of important mathematics topics that can be related to the sense-triggering process is the isometric transformation geometry including reflection, translation, and rotation. This topic is introduced to the fourth and the fifth graders of elementary school. However, learning process in school tends to lack concern on this students’ readily-triggered ability. There is also insufficient number of hands-on activities experienced by the students. It is poor since the hands-on activities can facilitate students’ informal knowledge of isometric transformation geometry. Therefore, this two cycled design research aims to counter such situation. It was conducted at State Elementary School 001 of Toapaya, Kabupaten Bintan, Kepulauan Riau by using RME approach. The subject of the study was the fourth graders. Malay cloth motif was used as the context of the study through the exploration activities. The results indicated that the activities could trigger students’ informal knowledge of: reflection, translation, rotation, constant factors, and transformation composition.

Granting of quizlet is done gradually so that absorption to the students can be more rapid and structured. Use of the media learning is very beneficial to students because it can be developed by entering (input) the subject matter in the form of questions that melingupi an important part of the sub a lesson. Quizlet apps is also a means of contracting the message and information learned. As well as the power tTarik learning using information technology is well designed to help learners in the digest and understand the subject matter. On dasarya this research uses Quasi Experimental Research method, by using the subject of research in the form of a group (class). Class VI MI DDI Seppange taken as the population because, this class was considered qualified and already have knowledge about android-based learning, this can be seen from the quizlet diajuan at the time of pre-test. Variables that are revealed in this research is a study of the response against the application of learning to the students ' quizlet klas VI students taught using quizlet and response application of their learning. Next design research is applied in this study isThe pre-test – post-test control group design.

Abstract Background A rapidly ageing population challenges the health care system in general and home care services in particular. Communication is a cornerstone of person-centred care. However, little research has been conducted on how to improve communication between health care professionals and older persons in home care contexts, despite research showing the importance of such interactions. The increasing demands on how to best and efficiently improve competence in health professionals is the reason why the ACTION intervention was conducted. This paper aims to describe the development and process evaluation of an educational intervention for nurse assistants (NAs) in home care and highlights the potential of self-directed web-based learning as well as the pitfalls of conducting complex interventions in home care. Methods A web-based educational intervention focusing on person-centred communication was developed that targeted NAs in home care for older persons. Twenty-seven NAs from two units in Sweden were recruited, and 23 NAs were offered the educational intervention. Data were collected from multiple sources before, during and after the intervention and were analysed using quantitative and qualitative methods. Data were extracted from the web platform and analysed to determine the NAs´ engagement in the intervention. Additionally, interviews, evaluation forms and field notes were used to evaluate the feasibility of the intervention. Results The main findings suggest that web-based education seems to be an appropriate strategy in the home care context. The majority of the NAs (91%) participated in full or in part in the intervention. During the implementation process, some adaptions were required to fit the local circumstances regarding technical support, scheduling, and the design of the lectures. The NAs perceived the format to be easy to use and flexible and appreciated the stepwise modules. The content was perceived as valuable. Conclusions Our findings show that the benefits of the web-based educational intervention included the short and focused lectures as well as its accessibility. Challenges with the implementation process included gaining access to the NAs and motivating and involving the NAs. This study emphasizes the environmental support needed to successfully conduct complex interventions, including physical, organizational and cultural aspects.

The present study is a part of design research in local instructional theory in a pre-algebraic lesson using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. The article will focus on recommendations for the type of pre-algebra class that supports elementary school students’ algebraic thinking. As design research study, it followed the three steps of preliminary studies, teaching experiment and retrospective analysis. The subject of the study is 32 fifth grade students of MIN 2 Palembang during the teaching experiment phase.  The data were gathered from students’ worksheets, lesson observation and interviews with the students. Data analysis was done using a constant comparative qualitative method. The results from the study indicate that pattern investigation in pre-algebra class that visualized geometrically supports the students to identify the form of the pattern and construct generalization.

PurposeThere are 29 million homes in the UK, accounting for 14% of the UK's energy consumption. This is given that UK has one of the highest water and energy demands in Europe which needs to be addressed according to the Committee on Climate Change (CCC). Smart homes technology holds a current perception that it is principally used by “tech-savvy” users with larger budgets. However, smart home technology can be used to control water, heat and energy in the entire house. This paper investigates how smart home technology could be effectively utilised to aid the UK government in meeting climate change targets and to mitigate the environmental impact of a home in use towards reducing carbon emissions.Design/methodology/approachBoth primary and secondary data were sought to gain insight into the research problem. An epistemological approach to this research is to use interpretivism to analyse data gathered via a semi-structured survey. Two groups of participants were approached: (1) professionals who are deemed knowledgeable about smart home development and implementation and (2) users of smart home technology. A variety of open-ended questions were formulated, allowing participants to elaborate by exploring issues and providing detailed qualitative responses based on their experience in this area which were interpreted quantitatively for clearer analysis.FindingsWith fossil fuel reserves depleting, there is an urgency for renewable, low carbon energy sources to reduce the 5 tonnes annual carbon emissions from a UK household. This requires a multi-faceted and a multimethod approach, relying on the involvement of both the general public and the government in order to be effective. By advancing energy grids to make them more efficient and reliable, concomitant necessitates a drastic change in the way of life and philosophy of homeowners when contemplating a reduction of carbon emissions. If both parties are able to do so, the UK is more likely to reach its 2050 net-zero carbon goal. The presence of a smart meter within the household is equally pivotal. It has a positive effect of reducing the amount of carbon emissions and hence more need to be installed.Research limitations/implicationsFurther research is needed using a larger study sample to achieve more accurate and acceptable generalisations about any future course of action. Further investigation on the specifics of smart technology within the UK household is also needed to reduce the energy consumption in order to meet net-zero carbon 2050 targets due to failures of legislation.Practical implicationsFor smart homes manufacturers and suppliers, more emphasis should be placed to enhance compatibility and interoperability of appliances and devices using different platform and creating more user's friendly manuals supported by step-by-step visual to support homeowners in the light of the wealth of knowledge base generated over the past few years. For homeowners, more emphasis should be placed on creating online knowledge management platform easily accessible which provide virtual support and technical advice to home owners to deal with any operational and technical issues or IT glitches. Developing technical design online platform for built environment professionals on incorporating smart sensors and environmentally beneficial technology during early design and construction stages towards achieving low to zero carbon homes.Originality/valueThis paper bridges a significant gap in the body of knowledge in term of its scope, theoretical validity and practical applicability, highlighting the impact of using smart home technology on the environment. It provides an insight into how the UK government could utilise smart home technology in order to reduce its carbon emission by identifying the potential link between using smart home technology and environmental sustainability in tackling and mitigating climate change. The findings can be applied to other building types and has the potential to employ aspects of smart home technology in order to manage energy and water usage including but not limited to healthcare, commercial and industrial buildings.
