Background: Maintaining physical performance during Ramadan Diurnal Fasting (RDF) is a challenge for professional athletes. The literature shows that sleep disturbances experienced by athletes during RDF are associated with reduced physical performance. The effect of sleep quality on physical performance, and the effect of work status on physical performance during RDF among athletes, besides engaging in trainings, have been little investigated. This study aims to evaluate the effect of RDF on the physical performance of professional athletes taking into consideration their sleep quality and work status. Methods: Professional medium-distance male runners (n = 32) participated in our study in the summer of 2019. Data about socio-demographics, training characteristics, sleep quality (Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index: PSQI), physical performance (Cooper Test; Harvard step test) were collected before and during Ramadan. Student’s-test and Welch and Wilcoxon tests were used for data analysis. Results: Both quality of sleep and physical performance of athletes deteriorated during Ramadan. People with better quality of sleep had better physical fitness/performance both before and during RDF. Athletes who worked beside trainings achieved worse physical fitness test results and had worse quality of sleep. Conclusions: Policies aimed to improve physical performance in RDF should consider the quality of sleep and the work status of athletes.

Sleep is a basic human need. Sleep can help maintain the balance of both physiologically and psychologically to maintain health and life. However, the process is hampered sleep can cause people to experience a lack of sleep and consequently people will get tired and decreased concentration. This resulted in a decrease in work productivity and can cause accidents. The purpose of this study is to describe the quality of sleep in rotating workers at SK Lerik Hospital Kupang City in 2018. The research was conducted at the Hospital of SK Lerik starting in May-June 2018. This study is a quantitative study with a descriptive survey method. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The total sample in this study amounted to 126 people. The results showed that 114 (90,48%) of respondents have poor sleep quality, 77 (61,11%) of respondents considered that the quality of sleep is good, 45 (35,71%) of respondents have very less sleep latency, 53 (42,06%) of respondents slept 5-6 hours per day, 47 (37,30%) had sleep inefficient, 90 (71,43%) of respondents experiencing mild sleep disturbances, 118 (93,65%) of respondents never use sleeping pills, and 61 (48,41%) of respondents considered that the dysfunction experienced sleep during the day only a minor problem, In order to have a good quality sleep, should reduce the habit of using electronic devices (Smartphone and TV) before sleep and workers take turns at night should make up for lack of sleep at night with a nap sufficient.

As gestational age increases, the quality of sleep can decrease. It was reported that about 60% of late trimester pregnant women experience fatigue and> 75% experience sleep disturbances. However, these complaints are often ignored, even though it can lead to an increased risk of gestational hypertension, diabetes, prematurity, and postpartum depression. Sleep disturbances can also cause depression and stress that affects the fetus. Mild stress causes an increase in fetal heart rate which, if left untreated, will make the baby hyperactive. Meanwhile, the consequences are depression and babies who are born have less time to sleep deeply. Efforts to overcome this sleep disorder are yoga and lavender aromatherapy inhalation. Purpose: Therefore, the researchers estimated that the application of a combination of prenatal gentle yoga and lavender aromatherapy would be more effective in affecting the quality of sleep in pregnant women, so it is hoped that it can reduce sleep disturbances in third trimester pregnant women. Results: There is a significant effect of the combination of prenatal gentle yoga and inhalation of lavender aromatherapy in improving sleep quality in the treatment group with a value of α = 0.011 or α <0.05. There was a significant difference in the quality of sleep in the group compared to the control group with a value of α = 0.004 or α <0.05. Baby massage dan baby gym adalah upaya untuk meningkatkan kualitas tidur pada bayi.  Masalah tidur pada bayi di Indonesia cukup banyak, yaitu sekitar 44,2% bayi mengalami gangguan tidur seperti sering terbangun di malam hari. Namun lebih dari 72% orang tua menganggap gangguan tidur bukan suatu masalah atau hanya masalah kecil, hal tersebut diungkapkan oleh sebuah penelitian pada tahun 2014-2015 yang dilaksanakan di lima kota besar di Indonesia Berdasarkan data awal terdapat 20 bayi yang datang ke posyandu dan ditemukan 17 bayi yang mengalami gangguan tidur. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui efektivitas baby massage dan baby gym terhadap kualitas tidur bayi usia 3-6 bulan di Desa Talang Tegal. Jenis penelitian adalah kuantitatif dengan two group pre and post test  design. Sampel sebanyak 34 bayi yang diberikan perlakuan baby massage dan baby gym dilakukan selama 2 minggu 3x seminggu, untuk baby massage 15 menit sedangkan untuk baby gym 5 menit. Terdapat pengaruh baby massage terhadap kualitas tidur bayi usia 3-6 bulan dengan  p value 0.000. Terdapat pengaruh baby gym terhadap kualitas tidur bayi usia 3-6 bulan dengan  p value 0,001. Tidak terdapat perbedaan efektivitas baby massage dan baby gym terhadap kualitas tidur bayi usia 3 – 6 bulan. Kata kunci : baby gym; baby massage; kualitas tidur bayi  The Effectiveness of Baby Massage And Baby Gym on Sleep Quality of 3-6 Months Baby ABSTRACT  Baby massage and baby gym are efforts to improve the quality of sleep in babies. There are quite a number of sleep problems in infants in Indonesia, which is around 44.2% of infants experiencing sleep disorders such as frequent awakenings at night. However, more than 72% of parents consider sleep disturbances not a problem or just a minor problem, this was revealed by a 2014-2015 study conducted in five major cities in Indonesia. Based on initial data there were 20 babies who came to the Integrated Healthcare Centre and found 17 babies with sleep disorders. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of baby massage and baby gym on the sleep quality of baby aged 3-6 months in Talang Tegal Village. This type of research was quantitative with two groups pre-post test design. A sample of 34 babies who were given baby massage and baby gym treatment was carried out for 2 weeks 3 time each week, for baby massage 15 minutes while for baby gym 5 minutes. There is an effect of baby massage on the sleep quality of babies aged 3-6 months with a p value of 0.000. There is an effect of baby gym on the sleep quality of babies aged 3-6 months with a p value of 0.001. Objective: To study the correlation between severity of depression and the quality of sleep disturbances in patients with non psychotic depression. Method: A cross-sectional study of a cohort of 30 outpatient sample with non psychotic depression were recruited for the study. Controls were the accompanying relatives of the patients. Study was conducted at a government hospital in Tamil Nadu, South India. Inclusion criteria in the study group required fulfillment of ICD 10 criteria for major depressive disorder. Patients who were 18yrs of age and above and both male and female genders were included in the study. Both study and control groups were administered the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Epworth sleepiness scale to measure the quality of sleep disturbances in the sample. Correlation between HAMD depression severity and the PSQI sleep quality scores and the Epworth sleepiness scale scores in the depressive patients and the correlation between nocturnal sleep disturbances and day-time sleepiness among depressed patients were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Analysis revealed significant inverse correlation between the severity of depression and components of quality of sleep such as subjective sleep quality, total sleep duration and habitual sleep efficiency and positive correlation with sleep latency. Conclusions: Study shows that as the severity of depression increases the severity of sleep disturbances also increases which also was significant when compared with the various components of sleep quality on the PSQI scale.

The aim: The work is aimed to study the formation mechanisms of sleep disturbances with GERD based on the determination of melatonin and serotonin indicators in the blood, psychosomatic status and quality of sleep, motor-secretory function of the esophagus and stomach in young people. Materials and methods: All 63 patients were with non-erosive GERD and insomnia. Among them, 32 with inhibitory personality type and 31 with excitable personality type. The control group is 25 people. Questionnaires were used to determine the quality of sleep, quality of life, state of the nervous system, ultrasound, stomach acidity, level of melatonin and serotonin. Results: In patients with inhibitory personality type, depressive disorders, lower sleep quality and quality of life were more pronounced, and in patients with excitable type, increased levels of reactive and personal anxiety and pronounced motor-secretory disorders. Conclusions: Psychosomatic disorders in GERD have a significant impact not only on the quality of sleep, quality of life, the level of melatonin and serotonin, the regulation of the secretory and motor functions of the stomach, but they are one of the links in the pathogenetic mechanism of the formation of both GERD and insomnia with it.

Objective: This was a descriptive study with the objective to determine the sleep disturbances and the quality of sleep among patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).Methods: Quantitative approach with non-experimental descriptive design was used. A semi-structured sleep disturbance questionnaire was used to determine the sleep disturbances, and a standardized Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index tool was used to assess the sleep quality among 100 subjects in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi.Results: The study results showed that majority of the subjects (51%) were of the age group between 56 and 65 years, and 71% were male with CVD. Sleep disturbances were present in 80% of the subjects with CVD, among which 56% subjects had mild disturbances, 20% subjects with moderate sleep disturbances, and 4% subjects with severe sleep disturbances. The result also indicated that 48% of subjects had poor sleep quality. Findings also showed a highly statistically significant association between cardiomyopathy and sleep disturbances (p<0.001). Total cholesterol and low-density cholesterol levels were significantly associated with sleep disturbances (p<0.05). There is a highly significant association between sleep disturbances and quality of sleep (p<0.001), indicating that sleep disturbances can be one factor in decreasing the quality of sleep in patients with CVD.Conclusion: The results of the study indicated that sleep disturbances were prevalent in patients with CVD and often hazardous to heart health. As health practitioner and other health-care providers have not focused major attention on the importance of sleep to health, the need for providing information to them and patients regarding the importance of improving the quality of sleep and identifying the sleep disturbances will call for action to bring sleep to the forefront of public health.

Elderly are particularly vulnerable groups that is prone to experiencing a decline in health related to a physiological decline. Vulnerability such as changes in structure of blood vessel walls lead to increased incidence of hypertension. Moreover, in uncontrolled conditions, elderly with hypertension can suffer symptoms of sleeping disorder, changes of sleep pattern that triggers the increasing of blood pressure and affect sleep quality. The purpose of this descriptive quantitative research was to describe the sleep quality of elderly with hypertension based on seven components of sleep quality assessment. The research design used a descriptive quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at Ciparay and Garut Elderly Social Rehabilitation Centre, with number of the sample obtained 37 elderlies who were elected by total sampling technique. The result of this study showed that 89,2% of respondents had poor sleep quality. Several conditions that stimulate poor sleep quality in the elderly come from high blood pressure which causes sleep disturbances, thereby changing several sleep components such as short sleep duration less than 6 hours, sleep latency 15-30 minutes, decreased sleep efficiency below 85%, and activity dysfunction in daytime. Future research is expected to be able to modify sleep quality measuring instruments that are specifically used to measure the quality of sleep for people with hypertension.

AbstractThe quality of sleep in pregnant women is very important for the health of both mother and fetus. The cause of sleep disturbances in pregnant women is due to the increased weight of the fetus, shortness of breath, fetal movement and back pain. To overcome this, it is necessary to do pregnancy exercises that increase the comfort of pregnant women. The purpose of this article is to determine the effect of pregnancy exercise on the quality of sleep of tird trimester pregnant women. The method used is a literature review which tries to dig up information about the effect of pregnancy exercise on the quality of sleep of pregnant women. Sources for conducting this literature review include systematic search studies of computerized databases (Scopus and Google Scholar) in the form of research journals totaling 3 journals. Writing scientific articles using the American Psychological Association bibliography (APA Format 6th Ed). The results showed that the mean value of sleep quality for pregnant women before doing pregnancy exercise was 12.43 and the mean value after pregnancy exercise was 6.43 (p = 0.000), thus there was an effect of pregnancy exercise on the sleep quality of pregnant women in the third trimester. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi tinjauan literatur (literature review) yang mencoba menggali informasi mengenai pengaruh senam hamil terhadap kualitas tidur ibu hamil. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa nilai mean kualitas tidur ibu hamil sebelum melakukan senam hamil adalah 12.43 dan nilai mean setelah pemberian senam hamil 6.43(p= 0.000),dengan demikian ada pengaruh senam hamil terhadap kualitas tidur ibu hamil trimester III. Simpulan berdasarkan ulasan di atas bahwa aktivitas senam hamil dapat menjadi salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kualitas tidur pada ibu hamil.Kata kunci: Ibu hamil; Kualitas tidur; Senam hamil

Background: The development of era has caused many declines in the quality of human health for all people, especially students. Sedentary behavior plays an important role in affecting sleep quality for a student. Sleep quality has a lot of correlations with various aspects, such as physical fitness. Good quality sleep will give an opportunity for the body to restore muscular strength, prolong the life of body cells, increase well-being, and leading to good physical fitness as well. Objective of the study was to find out the correlation between sleep quality and physical fitness among medical students of Udayana University.Methods: This research was an observational study with a cross-sectional method using the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) questionnaires and HST (Harvard Step Test) to 50 respondents.Results: Fisher's Exact Test results showed no relationship (p>0.05) between sleep quality and physical fitness in medical students. This condition can be influenced by several other factors such as genetic factors, physical activity, nutritional status as seen from the percentage of fat, lifestyle, and psychological conditions.Conclusions: There is no correlation between sleep quality and physical fitness among medical student of Udayana University. Further research is needed related to other factors that affect medical student’s physical fitness.

ABSTRACT In stroke patients particularly, many factors, such as sleep-related respiratory disturbances, can impair sleep. Cheap and easy-to-use tools have been created to identify sleep quality and sleep disturbances in patients after stroke. This study described the scores of the sleep apnea screening questionnaire - STOP-BANG - in patients after a stroke, and correlated the findings with sleep quality measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The scores of the STOP-BANG and PSQI were 4.3 ± 1.8 and 76 ± 3.9, respectively. The STOP-BANG scores were higher in poor sleepers (4.5 ± 1.6 versus 3.5 ± 1.9; p = 0.032). Logistic regression analysis was used to identify predictors of subjective sleep quality (PSQI) and the STOP-BANG as a predictor of poor quality sleep, with a relative risk of 1.6, controlled for age and sex. This study indicated that sleep quality was largely influenced by sleep breathing problems, which were well identified by the STOP-BANG, especially in younger stroke patients.
