Among fruit plants belonging to the Rosaceae family, medlar (Mespilus) can be classified as neglected or underutilized. It is a genus of two species of flowering plants: Mespilus germanica (common medlar) and Mespilus canescens. Appreciated for its specific taste and flavor, medlar also possesses biological properties (antioxidant and antimicrobial). Despite the special properties of medlar, there are few research papers on this subject. This review paper includes data not only on medlar fruits but also its leaves, bark, and bud flowers. The main identified components are presented, as well as several biological properties, morphological properties, ethnopharmacological uses, and molecular biology analyses emerging from the scientific papers published in this area.

Debates on overtourism, as a challenging phenomenon, are becoming more and more active. The purpose of this integrative review paper is to discuss the right to travel and residents’ rights in the context of overtourism and sustainable tourism, analyzing different scientific and legal sources. The integrative review analysis shows that overtourism and sustainable tourism are important contexts influencing the changing meaning of the right to travel and the right to live. On the one hand, the overtourism context makes the voices of residents more important to be heard, while on the other hand the sustainable tourism context influences the discussion of the right to travel, asking tourist voices to be considered more important. The results of this integrative review also shows the importance of rethinking the concept of sustainability in tourism as a holistic principle of democracy and as a degrowth movement, and opens the broader discussion for future tourism research development. The problem of overtourism could be solved by striving to develop sustainable tourism goals, thus balancing equality between the right to travel and residents’ rights. The presented integrative review paper is a preliminary work; further research is needed in order to find possible concrete solutions for overtourism.

Climate change, urbanization, urban population growth and the globalization of unhealthy diets can lead to serious food security challenges. Rare fruit plants have a number of valuable consumer qualities and are resistant to abiotic and biotic environmental factors, high decorative qualities, versatile and wide potential for use in fruit growing, breeding and gardening. These species can serve as sources of biologically active substances. The aim of our research was to study the ecological and biological characteristics of rare fruit plants of the Rosaceae family of the gene pool of the VNIISPK arboretum for the effective use of the potential of species biodiversity in breeding. The objects of study were 14 species. The studies were carried out over three years (2018 - 2020). Based on the results of a comprehensive ecological and biological assessment of 14 species of rare fruit plants of the Rosaceae family of the gene pool of the VNIISPK arboretum, 8 promising adaptive genotypes were identified, which are recommended to be used as genetic sources for breeding for obtaining varieties with a complex of economically valuable characteristics. These are Chaenomeles Maulei, Crataegus submollis, Amelanchier Canadensis, Amelanchier ovalis, Mespilus germanica, Padus virginiana, Padus Maackii and Malus prunifolia. Malus niedzwetzkyana and Sorbus aria are recommended as sources of pest resistance.

The strawberries represent in our days one of the main fresh fruits consumed globally, inevitably leading to large amounts of by-products and wastes. Usually appreciated because of their specific flavor, the strawberries also possess biological properties, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, or anti-inflammatory effects. In spite of the wide spread of the Fragaria genus, few species represent the subject of the last decade scientific research. The main components identified in the Fragaria species are presented, as well as several biological properties, as emerging from the scientific papers published in the last decade.
