When combined with assistive robotic devices, such as wearable robotics, brain/neural-computer interfaces (BNCI) have the potential to restore the capabilities of handicapped people to carry out activities of daily living. To improve applicability of such systems, workload and stress should be reduced to a minimal level. Here, we investigated the user’s physiological reactions during the exhaustive use of the interfaces of a hybrid control interface. Eleven BNCI-naive healthy volunteers participated in the experiments. All participants sat in a comfortable chair in front of a desk and wore a whole-arm exoskeleton as well as wearable devices for monitoring physiological, electroencephalographic (EEG) and electrooculographic (EoG) signals. The experimental protocol consisted of three phases: (i) Set-up, calibration and BNCI training; (ii) Familiarization phase; and (iii) Experimental phase during which each subject had to perform EEG and EoG tasks. After completing each task, the NASA-TLX questionnaire and self-assessment manikin (SAM) were completed by the user. We found significant differences (p-value < 0.05) in heart rate variability (HRV) and skin conductance level (SCL) between participants during the use of the two different biosignal modalities (EEG, EoG) of the BNCI. This indicates that EEG control is associated with a higher level of stress (associated with a decrease in HRV) and mental work load (associated with a higher level of SCL) when compared to EoG control. In addition, HRV and SCL modulations correlated with the subject’s workload perception and emotional responses assessed through NASA-TLX questionnaires and SAM.

ABSTRAK In carrying out its main duty as a guardian of the territorial water sovereignty republic Indonesia, the strength of the Navy is directed as a strategic force developed under the SSAT. The strength of the Navy can be measured by the arsenal and the quality of the personnel who are responsible for it. The performance, quality of personnel is strongly influenced by the work load it receives. Measurement of personnel workload in Indonesian Warship to determine the class of his current position using the Factor Evaluation System (FES) method that is more oriented on the volume of work and work time. While the mental workload has not been accommodated in the measurement of workload using this method. In this research will carry out the measurement of mental workload of Indonesian Warship personnel for each type of work when the Indonesian Warship operates, using the NASA TLX method integrated with the Fuzzy method. The questionnaire data collection was obtained from 82 respondents Indonesian Warship personnel. From the research results obtained data that of 11 (eleven) types of work in Indonesian Warship at the time of operation, Main Engine Operators work is the work that has the highest mental workload with a value of 74.33. While the type of work that most low-level mental work is to electronics Operators with a value of 58.83.  Keywords: Workload, NASA TLX, FUZZY Method, FES

<p><em><em>Background: In Batik Mawar, almost all work is done manually using the hands and upper arms on a continuous basis combined with the rigor of work and the use of traditional tools. The work has a heavy workload because all the work process is done by the same craftsman causing fatigue besides that the worker also have double role. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between workload and dual role with feelings of fatigue on craftsmen batik roses.Method: This research is Quantitative research with Cross Sectional research design. The population in this study are all artisans in Batik Mawar. Sampling in this study using total sampling technique with the number of research samples as many as 40 respondents. Data analysis used by Univariat and Bivariat.Result: Result of data analysis using Chi-Square test for work load got value p-Value = 0,001. The result of data analysis using Chi-square test for double role got p-value = 0,031. Thus it is concluded that there is a meaningful relationship between workload and dual role with feeling tired. We recommend that craftsmen wash clothes 2 times a day, cook ready meals, other than together in completing the work at home</em></em></p><p><em><br /></em></p><p><em>Di Batik Mawar, hampir semua pekerjaan dikerjakan secara manual menggunakan tangan dan lengan atas secara berkesinambungan yang dikombinasi dengan ketelitian kerja dan penggunaan alat-alat tradisional. Pekerjaan mempunyai beban kerja yang berat dikarenakan semua proses kerja dilakukan oleh pengrajin yang sama sehingga menimbulkan kelelahan</em><em> disamping itu pekerjanya juga memiliki peran ganda</em><em>.</em><em> Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan beban kerja dan peran ganda dengan perasaan lelah pada pengrajin batik mawar.Metode: </em><em>Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian Cross Sectional. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah semua pengrajin di Batik Mawar. Pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik total sampling dengan jumlah sampel penelitian sebanyak 40 responden. Analisis data yang digunakan Univariat dan Bivariat.</em><em>Hasil: </em><em>Hasil analisis data yang menggunakan uji Chi-Square untuk beban kerja didapatkan nilai p-Value = 0,001. Hasil analisis data yang menggunakan uji Chi-square untuk peran ganda didapatkan nilai p-value= 0,031. Dengan demikian  disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan yang bermakna antara beban kerja dan peran ganda dengan perasaan lelah.Sebaiknya pengrajin mencuci pakaian 2 kali sehari, memasak makanan siap saji, selain itu dengan cara bersama-sama dalam menyelesaikan pekerjaan dirumah.</em><em></em></p><strong><em></em></strong>

Abstract Background Within surgery, assistive robotic devices (ARD) have reported improved patient outcomes. ARD can offer the surgical team a “third hand” to perform wider tasks and more degrees of motion in comparison with conventional laparoscopy. We test an eye-tracking based robotic scrub nurse (RSN) in a simulated operating room based on a novel real-time framework for theatre-wide 3D gaze localization in a mobile fashion. Methods Surgeons performed segmental resection of pig colon and handsewn end-to-end anastomosis while wearing eye-tracking glasses (ETG) assisted by distributed RGB-D motion sensors. To select instruments, surgeons (ST) fixed their gaze on a screen, initiating the RSN to pick up and transfer the item. Comparison was made between the task with the assistance of a human scrub nurse (HSNt) versus the task with the assistance of robotic and human scrub nurse (R&HSNt). Task load (NASA-TLX), technology acceptance (Van der Laan’s), metric data on performance and team communication were measured. Results Overall, 10 ST participated. NASA-TLX feedback for ST on HSNt vs R&HSNt usage revealed no significant difference in mental, physical or temporal demands and no change in task performance. ST reported significantly higher frustration score with R&HSNt. Van der Laan’s scores showed positive usefulness and satisfaction scores in using the RSN. No significant difference in operating time was observed. Conclusions We report initial findings of our eye-tracking based RSN. This enables mobile, unrestricted hands-free human–robot interaction intra-operatively. Importantly, this platform is deemed non-inferior to HSNt and accepted by ST and HSN test users.

The proliferation of sedentary, more cognitively demanding computer-mediated work, calls attention to the need for methods to measure mental work load. The present research describes two experiments in which participants performed a machine paced task of entering five and/or nine digit zip codes into a computer. The zip code data was presented on a computer screen for twelve four minute trials where the rate of zip code presentation varied from trial to trial. Using the psychophysical scaling method of magnitude estimation, participants made a judgment of task difficulty after each trial period. In Experiment 1, four females participated in a repeated measures within-subjects design performing each digit task condition for five consecutive days. In Experiment 2, a between-subjects design was adopted where 42 females performed either the five or the nine digit data-entry for only one testing session. Regression analyses using the independent variable of stimulus presentation rate and the dependent variable of judgments of perceived difficulty resulted in R2s of .90 or better for both digit conditions in both experiments. T-tests were conducted to see if different task parameters would affect difficulty judgments; these were statistically significant to the .001 level in both experiments. The results support the notion that magnitude estimation is a reliable method for scaling subjective perceptions of difficulty, which may be an important component of mental workload.

SUMMARYA semi-automatic method for calibrating a robot-vision interface is presented. It puts a small work-load on the operator, requires a simple calibration jig and a solution of a very simple system of equations. It has been extensively used in an experimental robotic cell set up at Loughborough University of Technology, where various aspects of the manufacturing and the decoration of scale models are being investigated. As an extension of the calibration procedure, the paper also shows practical solutions for the problem of dealing with three dimensional objects using a single camera.

This paper discusses the mental work load index in vehicle driving and operation of various instruments by the use of the analysis method of heart rate variability. According to what has been reported previously, the heart rate (HR) and the respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) is obtained by the FFT analysis of the R-R Interval. However, the calculation to obtain RSA by the FFT method has a drawback in that it is so complicated that it is impossible to detect dynamic mental variation. Therefore, we have devised a new method of calcurating RSA, which calculates the R-R variability (RRV) at each 3 beats. The method is referred to the RRV3 method. We succeeded to verify that this method enables simplified collection of RSA and real time measurement of mental work load in vehicle driving including dynamic variations.

The Workload Indicators of Staffing Need (WISN) software application training aims toimprove the knowledge and skill of Karangasem Regional Public Hospital (RSUD Karangasem) staff in undertaking workload-based human resources planning analysis using WISN software. The training was conducted in 24 September 2016 at RSUD Karangasem. Fifty seven managerial staff of RSUD Karangasem participated in the training. The training consist of WISN software installation, presentation, discussion, and practices on how to use WISN software. The trainees were asked to fill in pretest and posttest questionaires. The test scores were analyzed statistically using paired t-test. There was knowledge improvement of 6,21 after the training with p value < 0.001. All trainees were also able to conduct analysis using WISN software under the guidance of the trainers. The training has been well performed and successfully improved the knowledge and skill of RSUD Karangasem staff in applying WISN method. They stated their willingness to apply WISN method to their institution. However, further technical guidance is required to set up the system for the implementation of WISN method on human resource planning in RSUD Karangasem.

E-David (Electronic Drawing Apparatus for Vivid Image Display) is a system for controlling a variety of painting machines in order to create robotic paintings. This article summarizes the hardware set-up used for painting, along with recent developments, lessons learned from past painting machines, as well as plans for new approaches. We want to apply e-David as a platform for research towards improving automatic painting and to explore machine creativity. We present different painting machines, from small low-cost plotters to large industrial robots, and discuss the benefits and limitations of each type of platform and present their applicability to different tasks within the domain of robotic painting and artificial creativity research. A unified control interface with a scripting language allows users a simplified usage of different e-David-like machines. Furthermore, we present our system for automated stroke experimentation and recording, which is an advance towards allowing the machine to autonomously learn about brush dynamics. Finally, we also show how e-David can be used by artists “in the field” for different exhibitions.
