Due to global interest in the improvement of national income and quality of life, eco-labeled food (ELF) for sustainable consumption and personal healthcare has been increasing. This study aims to contribute to two research streams by examining the quality of ELF in forests (ELFF). First, this study intends to estimate the willingness to pay (WTP) of ELFF producers for the certification verified by the government-supported institution and investigate the difference in certification costs between the actual certificating authority and ELFF producers. Second, this study aims to figure out the perception mechanism of how consumers who would like to purchase ELFFs recognize the effect of enhanced certification. These efforts may contribute to the research on how to raise interest in the production of ELF-related products and sustainable consumption. To achieve the purpose of this study, we adopted contingent valuation methods (CVM) to measure WTPs using interview-based surveys with 40 ELF producers and ordinary least squares (OLS) regression to examine the effect of certification with 112 consumers who experienced ELF consumption. Results of this study provide theoretical and practical implications by looking at the relationship between ELF certification and sustainable consumption from a stakeholder's perspective. This study intends to expand the research field of ELF from agriculture to forestry products. It provides a basis for providing practical implications for policymakers who propose sustainable consumption.

This paper presents the results of a referendum-style contingent valuation survey conducted in one of the richest milking states of India. 200 households were surveyed to study the farmer’s preferences and choices for the health, breeding and insurance services. The objective of the survey was to assess the preference structure and the willingness of poor farmers to pay for veterinary health and insurance services. It is a comparative study between the existing situation and improved situation, that how the willingness to pay (WTP) will change if the quality of the health, breeding and insurance services will improve. The results show that farmers are willing to pay for assured access to veterinary services. Majority of the households value these services tremendously and are not looking for subsidies provided by the government institutions. It was noticed that farmer’s willingness to pay was much higher than the amount government institutions were presently charging for improved livestock support services, e.g. health and AI services. Though the coverage of Livestock insurance was low but it was found that farmers were ready to pay high amount of premium charges if the insurance services are easily available to the farmer’s door step with very less paper work and other formalities. Combining the findings of this survey with other closely related studies and the changing structure the input and output markets for livestock sector, the paper suggests specific policy measures to more effectively meet the expanding livestock services needs of poor livestock farmers.

The United States does more than just talk; it invests a lot of money in public education. While students are the major focus of concern, teachers are a mainstay in the enterprise. In 2002, the U.S. invested $192 billion in teacher pay and benefits. More than 50% of all dollars allocated by the government for education is paid in salaries for teachers, yet there is little research to guide decisions as whom to hire, retain, and promote (Rice, 2003). However, the general consensus is that under good teachers, students get a good education, and under poor teachers, students get a poor education. The difference between the two makes a world of difference. The U. S. cannot afford to trust its most valuable asset students - to the tutelage of poor teachers. Doing so would be to run the risk of needlessly suffering from medical conditions, financial woes, and a quality of life not befitting a highly advanced nation. This manuscript provides a functional framework for the student and faculty, a review of related literature, and a detailed description of an individual effort at implementing promising practices to prepare quality teacher educators. The expectation is that information and preliminary findings that are provided will, in some way, further thinking and effort at producing effective teachers to staff our schools.

Purpose. Identification of the role of government in the development of competitive medical tourism offers. Method. This is exploratory research, employing the grounded theory method that is characterized by an inductive approach to the analysed issue. Findings. Governments of the most competitive medical tourism destinations relatively rarely take on the role of service producers or developers. More often, they assume the role of service regulators, especially in the area concerning the quality of services and conditions for development of medical tourism. The scope and particular methods of intervention differ but it can be hypothesized that there are two basic models: in the first one, the private sector is a catalyst of development while the government takes on the role of a co-ordinator at the most advanced phase, in the second one, the government initiates and leads the development since its early stages. Research and conclusions limitations. The research has been based on secondary sources and covers selected cases in the particular period that may affect the generalization of the outcomes. Practical implications. The research provides some guidelines concerning the involvement of government and the instruments to deliver competitive medical tourism offers. Originality. The research makes an original attempt to identify governments’ activities in the area of medical tourism and provides a documented elaboration on Porter’s concept of competitiveness for the 10 top, most competitive destinations. The purpose and number of cases that were examined differ the research from similar attempts more limited in their scope. Type of paper. Empirical research on 10 cases.

Abstract The present study hypothesized the concept of transaction utility that consumers receive from end-user piracy and assumes that it is positively associated with the difference between the price of original good and cost of copying the pirated product. We assume two groups of consumers – one enjoying transaction utility from piracy and the other not enjoying the same. The results show that a monopolist producing information-goods will adopt a low-price low-quality strategy in presence of transaction utility. An increase in the quality of the pirated product will also induce the firm to continue with the low-price–low-quality strategy. However, an increase in the proportion of the consumers not receiving transaction utility from piracy will increase the price and quality of the original good. In addition, with an increase in the average and marginal willingness-to-pay parameter of the consumers, the price, quality and profit of the original good will increase. The expected piracy rate is observed to be decreasing in transaction utility parameter when the upper boundary of willingness-to-pay parameter of the consumer is below a critical level.
