Mobile devices have become an important tool in higher education. Although mobile devices have several benefits for students, the use of these devices is still very limited among students. This low percentage of usage could be attributed to several reasons, both technical and non-technical. Therefore, there is a need to conduct more research in order to understand the necessary factors that would lead to enhanced student usage, thus achieving sustainable mobile learning. In order to achieve that, our study proposes a model by employing the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) to investigate the necessary factors that influence intention to use mobile learning among university students. To evaluate the proposed model, structural equation modelling (SEM) was employed to analyze data collected from 612 students. The results indicated that factors, such as device connectivity, device compatibility, device memory, device performance, network coverage, and network speed have a significant and positive influence on students’ intention to use mobile learning. This research provides important recommendations for university decision makers and developers on understanding the necessary factors for adopting mobile learning and reflect the students’ requirements.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate factors that influence the intention to use mobile learning (m-learning) by learners in developing countries such as Thailand. This study integrated two theories; namely, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), which focuses on technology, and uses and gratifications theory (UGT), which involves studying learners’ motivation. Design/methodology/approach Applying a quantitative research method, this study conducted a survey of 359 undergraduates. The partial least squares methods and a statistical analysis technique based on the structural equation modelling (SEM), were used to analyse the data. Findings The results revealed that the performance expectancy, cognitive need, affective need and social need had significant effect on intention to use m-learning. Furthermore, this study found a significant effect of the cognitive need on the performance expectancy and social need on effort expectancy. Practical implications This research model has provided guidelines for the effective development of educational applications for use on mobile devices. The findings can be applied as guidelines for public organizations to develop educational strategies to further encourage the development of online learning. Originality/value This research closed a gap of understanding from previous studies by integrating UTAUT and UGT. The method derived from the theoretically integrated model could be applied to study the intentions for the implementation the mobile learning application from the context of developing countries such as Thailand.

The use of mobile devices that have high technical capabilities has increased in the last years. These devices are appropriate instructional tools reflecting the trends in modern education by providing instant access to information that is used with mobile learning purposes. As is in many areas of education, m-learning has been becoming widespread in medical education. Therefore, medical students’ readiness for m-learning is highly important. This study aims to investigate how medical students’ beliefs influence their behavioral intention to use mobile devices for learning purposes. The 376 medical students (222 juniors, 154 sophomores; aged between 18 and 24 years; 214 males, 162 females) participated in this study. All participants had mobile devices. Data were collected through a survey. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the findings. The proposed model, which is created based on the theory of planned behavior, was tested in the study. Based on the findings, the medical students’ perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, learning autonomy, intention to use, perceived self-efficacy toward mobile devices, and m-learning are found to be high level. However, according to medical students, instructors’ readiness to apply m-learning has been found to be low level. The findings showed that the proposed model explains medical students’ behavioral intention to use m-learning reasonably well. The behavioral intention is explained with a variance of 76% in the model. Subjective norm is the main indicator of behavioral intention, followed by perceived behavioral control and attitude. The proposed model in the study could be useful to design m-learning applications, environments, and implementation plans effectively in medical education.

Flipped learning empowers learners to take an engaging role in learning while educators assist the learning process. The employment of flipped learning has been confirmed to enhance the teaching and learning of English as a second language in previous studies. This study aimed to explore the application of the unified theory of technology acceptance and use of technology towards ESL lecturers’ intention to use flipped learning. This study used a quantitative research framework where a set of online questionnaires was used in collecting the data. A total of 206 English as a second language lecturers from four different universities participated in this study. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The result of this study indicates that only social influence is significant in predicting English as a second language lecturers’ intention to use the flipped learning approach. Furthermore, this study enriches the literature on 21st century education and the integration of technology in teaching and learning. In addition, this study could help educators and stakeholders in adapting or enhancing the flipped learning approach by distinguishing the distinct predictors of technology acceptance.

The conceptual model proposed was based on the extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2). The proposed model was empirically tested using survey data provided by 203 respondents and was analyzed using a structural equation model (SEM). The analysis results indicated that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions show a significant positive impact on the users' behavioural intention to use internet banking services. However, price value, hedonic motivation, and habit do not positively influence the behavioural intention. This study offers Tunisian banks some guidelines to develop strategies and to improve their services in order to increase the adoption of mobile banking by their customers.

The effective use of an interactive whiteboard (IWB) in teacher-education institutions depends strongly on student teachers’ intention of using it. Despite the recent surge in published research on the widespread applications for IWB in teaching and learning, few have developed a model to elucidate the elements which contribute to student teachers’ intention to use IWB. The aim of this study was to develop a model which demonstrates the variables that affect student teachers’ intentions and which also explain their interactions. The proposed IWB intention to use research model is based on prominent educational technology acceptance theories and models. Five variables (technology self-efficacy, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and intention to use) were selected to build a model for this study. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used for this study to identify the predictors and the model fit. The proposed model has accounted for 47.6% of the variance in the intention to use IWB.

On the opposite hand, the implementation of mobile learning in educational activity relies on users’ acceptance of technology. Acceptance and intention to use mobile learning may be a topic of growing interest within the field of education. The model of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) is planned and developed by researchers via a mixture of eight major theories in activity prediction. UTAUT is among the foremost fashionable and up to date model in information technology acceptance. This is review paper aiming to review UTAUT’s previous studies of intention to use mobile learning. In conclusion, this research provides insight regarding the necessary factors for planning and designing an intention to use mobile learning model in higher education institutions.

The paper discusses the effect of mobile learning on students, especially the tablets and smartphones. Theses gadgets have become a research interest of education to encourage and facilitate learning. Mobile devices assist in build closer connection between students and teachers. There are several options of mobile devices such as Ipod, personal digital assistant, smart phone, laptop or tablet PC, MP3 Players, pen drive and so on. Mobile learning involves the use of mobile technology either alone or combination with other information and communication technology (ICT). The benefits of mobile learning expand the reach and quality of education, facilitate personalized learning, power anytime, anywhere learning, provide immediate feedback and assessment, ensure productive use of time spent in classrooms, build new community of students, support selected learning, enhance seamless learning, bridge formal and informal learning, improve communication and administration, maximize cost efficiency and update policies related to mobile learning. It is concluded that the benefits overshadow the challenges. Using mobile devices allow students to extend learning beyond the classroom walls. Students are highly engaged and are able to demonstrate unique and creative way to respond to the use of technology that offers some distinctive affordance to users.

<p>This <span>study presents an amended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) which explores key factors affecting Malaysian consumers ' willingness to accept mobile-commerce. A questionnaire survey has been used to collect information from 400 Malaysian smartphone users using a random stratified sample and analyzed using structural equation modelling (SEM); with the use of Smart PLS 3.0. Results show that acceptance and use of mobile-commerce services can also be predicted by the behavioural intentions of users, whose performance expectancy, efforts expectations, social effects, mobility, personal innovations and perceived trust are significantly affected. From these variables, perceived trust is the most significant determinant that directly affects behavioural intention to use mobile-commerce services in Malaysia. It is then followed by mobility, personal innovation, social influence, performance expectancy then effect expectancy. Facilitating Conditions and moderating variables such as gender, age, education, income, marital status, experience and payment have no significant effect on Behavioral Intention to use mobile-commerce services in Malaysia. In conclusion, this study shows that behavioural intention and the use of mobile commerce services in Malaysia have a direct effect. The study will help dealers to avoid spending thousands of dollars on investments that have little impact on whether the customer is embracing and using mobile-commerce. The study also provides quantified indicators and offers a framework for the understanding of the Malaysia mobile-commerce system. The report concludes with a study of the effects of the research findings and provides recommendations for future research.</span></p>

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) is the product of “internet + education,” which offer the open educational resources to global students. This study analyzed the factors influencing the continued intention to use the MOOCs by students. To achieve research objectives, this study integrated the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and connected classroom climate (CCC). In this study, 312 valid samples were used to verify the hypothesis proposed with the help of structural equation modeling and PROCESS. The results showed that the factors of UTAUT model (performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions) had significant positive effects on continued intention to use MOOCs. More importantly, there was a significant moderating effect of CCC between UTAUT and the continued intention to use MOOCs. Based on this research the findings, implications and limitations are discussed.

The proliferation of e-government adoption in developing nations is anticipated to radically progress governance and transform government-to-citizen interactions and general administrative operations. More so, the benefits and level of e-government adoption in the public sector have been echoed world over; but remains subdued in the context of developing nations. This study investigates the effect of effort expectancy, price value, service quality, optimism bias and behavioural intention on citizens’ decisions to use e-government systems in Zimbabwe. Informed by the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) as a theoretical lens, a research model for this study was adapted and tested using quantitative data collected from a survey of 489 respondents in Zimbabwe. Using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling, the proposed model was validated, thus, the major contribution of this research. Findings of this study may be of value in policy formulation and restructuring by practitioners on e-government matters. Thus, the results shade a light to some of the key drivers and inhibitors of e-government adoption in developing nations. Despite achieving its aim, this study has its limitations which constitute the future research direction
