Problems that faced by the new college students both in the first year and second year in adjusting to college are friendship issues, lack of confidence, communication with others, anxious during exams and presentations, and more. The existence of various problems faced makes the individual experiencing barriers to adjust to the new environment. Therefore, this research is conducted to find out the determinants of adjustment for new students, especially for new students in the first year and second year in the development stage of emerging adulthood. The sample of this study amounted to 197 students who are new students in the first year and second year at the University of Surabaya by using sampling technique proportional stratified incidentally. The data collection method was using questionnaire of self-adjustment determinants and a self-adjustment questionnaire from Baker and Siryk (1986). The results showed of the 36 factors that formulated based on elicitation theory and interview with respondents finally forms 5 new factors. The new factors that determine the adjustment of new students are academic anxiety, competence and motivation, physical and psychological barriers, friendship, and openness and confidence. Dominant factors that can predict the ability of individuals to adjust themselves are physical and psychological barriers. This factor can affect the individual in solving the problems they face and become a barrier of themselves to adjust to the new environment.

This article aims to study the relationship between personal reflection and the intensity of motivation for learning in a university.In order to achieve this goal, the following techniques were employed: A.V.Karpov and V.V.Ponomaryova’s technique for identifying the individual level of reflectivity, and T.I.Ilyina’s technique for assessing learning motivation in university students.The empirical study involved 143 subjects.The obtained data indicate that for the first-year students the meaning of the ‘mastering the profession’ motive is directly connected with their reflections on the present and future activities, while the meaning of the ‘getting a diploma’ motive is inversely correlated with the reflection of communication.In the second year, the intensity of the ‘gaining knowledge’ motive correlates with the reflection of communication, and the meaning of the ‘mastering the profession’ motive has an inverse relationship with the reflection of future activity.In the third year, the values of the motive for acquiring knowledge correlate with the integral indicator of reflection, whereas in the fourth year none of the reflection components are interconnected with the components of the motivation for learning in the university.

Introduction/Objective. The classic type of celiac disease (CD) is most common in children under two years of age. The aim of this study was to investigate whether breastfeeding, particularly breastfeeding during gluten introduction, and timing of gluten introduction, influence the onset of CD at this age. Methods. We retrospectively analyzed medical records of 93 children, 40 in the first and 53 in the second year, with a classic CD diagnosed at the University Children?s Hospital, Belgrade between 2000 and 2010. The diagnosis of CD was based on the criteria of the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) from 1989. Results. Duration of breastfeeding reduced the onset of the CD in the first year p = 0.039 (OR = 1.43 95% CI 1.019?1.899). Also, breastfeeding at the time of gluten introduction significantly delayed the age at diagnosis (F = 1.671, t = 2.39, p = 0.029). The timing of gluten introduction did not affect the age of occurrence of CD in these group of children. Conclusion. Longer breastfeeding, and breastfeeding at the time of gluten introduction, postponed the onset of classic CD in patients up to two years. The association between the occurrence of CD and the time of introduction of gluten in this age group of patients has not been established.

Emerging adulthood is one of the most important life stages for self and identity development. The present research tracked the development of implicit self-esteem during emerging adulthood at both the group and individual levels. We used the implicit association test to assess implicit self-esteem with the improved D score as the index. We surveyed 327 students each year from the beginning of their first year of university until their graduation, with an extra assessment run in the middle of the first year. First-order autoregressive structural equation modeling indicated that implicit self-esteem remained quite stable during the university years in terms of rank-order stability. Latent growth modeling showed that implicit self-esteem decreased slightly during the university years with females initially manifesting a higher level. These findings enrich our understanding of implicit self-esteem and its development as well as self-construction during emerging adulthood.

We studied first-year students through an integrated group workshop and longitudinal interviews that focused on students' transitional experience at the university as well as the strategies they developed to adjust to university life. Four themes emerged: the challenges of forming connections to other students with similar interests during the first few weeks on campus, the need to balance competing demands, varied experiences of connection with faculty and staff, and the need for translation of university life for minority students. To address the issues and concerns that emerged from our findings, we offer a number of advisory recommendations and programmatic initiatives. Relative Emphasis: research, practice, theory

First-year experience (FYE) programs offer librarians opportunities to teach new students in a comprehensive fashion. However, large FYE programs can place demands on user education programs that are difficult to meet. Instruction librarians at the University at Albany sought to address this dilemma by developing a Web-based instructional module for one class session. The module was used by a segment of students in the Project Renaissance FYE program, whereas another segment received instruction by a librarian. The effectiveness of the two instructional methods was compared using pre- and post-tests, and was found to be equal. Analysis of the test scores also showed that instruction, regardless of format, makes a significant difference (p < .05) in the number of correct test answers.

As an educational institution, the thing that must be considered is the quality of service. If educational institutions always pay attention to the quality of their services to prospective new students, it will have an impact on the image of the campus which can lead to an increase in the interest of prospective new students who will register at UMSIDA. This study aims to determine the effect of Customer Service on the perceptions of new students and services at UPT New Student Reception at Muhammadiyah University, Sidoarjo. This type of research is quantitative descriptive, the location in this study was at the University of Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo with a sample of 96 respondents taken using the Slovin formula. While the sampling technique is proportional random sampling. Data collection is done by distributing questionnaires and documentation. Data were analyzed by simple linear regression with the help of SPSS 16.0. The results of this study stated that there was a good influence Customer Service (X) on the perception (Y1) of new students by 82.4% and a good effect of Custumer Service on service (Y2) of new students by 81.2% at the UPT of New University Student Admissions Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo.

A Task Force was created by the Faculty of Engineering at the University of New Brunswick in September 2004 charged with creating a new course for all first year engineering students to be delivered for the first time in September 2005. The course, to be taken by approximately 270 students, was to integrate material from other first year courses, introduce the students to working in teams, contain a substantial design element through a design project, and introduce communication skills. Nine professors from throughout engineering “volunteered” to help develop and deliver the course. In this paper we own up to what we did wrong during the first two years of delivery of this course, and (naturally!) counter this by celebrating our successes. Students are assessed based on a combination of individual and team submissions, with some submissions being oral and others written. This paper will outline the complex assessment scheme we initially used, and how we later simplified it. Rubrics were used to evaluate many of the course assignments. For most of the instructors, this was the first time they had used rubrics and so it was a learning experience to both develop and apply them. We show how we adapted their use in the second year of delivery after the experiences of the first year. We were pleased with the way that the assessments were mostly built around the design project – this helped the students grasp why clear communication is vital and enabled them to obtain continual feedback on the project. We were also delighted that an element of social responsibility was introduced into the course by making the project an international “Engineers Without Borders” project based in Africa. We believe this added an additional dimension to the course and especially the project. The professor-delivered skits were especially popular! Delivered by two wannabe actors, they introduced the students in a humorous manner to the different types of engineering that are taught at UNB. Engineering students at UNB have to commit to their specific engineering field from their first day at UNB, so these skits were included to ensure the students were exposed to all the UNB engineering disciplines. We conclude the paper with our plans for delivery of the course in September 2007 and beyond.

The study was intended to find out the level of Scientific Attitude of B.Ed., trainees in the Perambalur district. This study involves a survey method. The size of the sample in the study was 941 B.Ed., trainees who were selected through the simple random sampling technique. The main objectives of the study are to find out the Scientific Attitude of B.Ed., trainees concerning the Demographic variables such as gender, year of study, locality of college, type of family. The Statistical procedures used in this study were; Mean, Standard Deviation, and’ test to analyze the data. The Major findings of the study were; i). The level of Scientific Attitude of B.Ed., Trainees, is average. ii) Female B.Ed., Trainees, is a significantly higher level of Scientific Attitude than the Male B.Ed., Trainees. iii) Second Year B.Ed., Trainees are a significantly higher level of Scientific Attitude than the First Year B.Ed., Trainees. iv) Urban B.Ed., Trainees, is a significantly higher level of Scientific Attitude than the Rural B.Ed., Trainees. v) Nuclear Family and Joint Family of B.Ed., Trainees, are having a similar level of Scientific Attitude. It’s my conclusion that the present study reveals that there is more number of B.Ed., Trainees have an average Scientific Attitude.

Cessation of all classroom and clinical activities in the spring of 2020 for first- and second-year medical students at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth campus both forced and enabled revision of rural medicine instruction and experiences. Creatively utilizing rural family physicians and third-year rural physician associate medical students to interact with first-year students virtually in a number of areas and using electronic connectivity enabled the institution to continue to emphasize rural medical health issues with the students.

Income Analysis of Klutuk Bananas at Puhu Village Payangan District Gianyar Regency This study aims to determine costs used, revenue and income of klutuk banana farming. The location of the research was determined purposively at Puhu Village, Payangan District, Gianyar Regency. The population in this study was klutuk banana farmers at Puhu Village, Payangan District, Gianyar Regency. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling method. Samples in this study were 55 respondents of farmers determined by using Slovin method. This research uses descriptive quantitative and qualitative to calculate income of klutuk banana cultivation at Puhu Village. The results of this study show that average farm income received by farmers was Rp 3,503,207 in the first year and in the second year at amount Rp 4,401,317. Technical obstacles experienced by farmers on klutuk banana farming at Puhu Village were the existence of green grasshopper and strong wind. Hindrance from the economic point of view was price fluctuations between wet and dry seasons.
