Parents believe that bilingual storybooks for children can be used as media for children in learning English. However, not all bilingual books have good quality in their translation. This research aims to know the parents’ perspective on the quality of translation in children’s bilingual storybooks. This is descriptive quantitative research. The data were gathered by using a questionnaire through implementing Google Form for 52 parents as respondents. Some considerations in choosing the respondents were applied, such as the parents have kindergarten and elementary schools level students and the parents use bilingual storybooks at home. The storybooks in this research consist of English and Indonesia, with Bahasa Indonesia as the source language and English as a target language. The research was conducted from April to June 2021. After being collected, the data are presented as the data display stage, and the researchers conclude. The result shows that there are 48 parents of 52 parents who consider bilingual storybooks as media. Fifty parents also buy bilingual storybooks for their children. Among the respondents, 37 parents check the language of the books, and 15 parents do not match. Forty-two parents believe that the books are qualified for learning English. There are five considerations for parents in buying books: story, picture, language, price, and publishers/authors.

Purpose: Website translation requires an advanced translation to make the message transferred comprehensively. The purpose of this research was to analyze the translation quality of the Islamqa.info/id website in Indonesian as the Target Language (TL), translated from its original version in Arabic website, Islamqa.info/ar, as the Source Language (SL). Methodology: To discover the quality of translation work, three aspects could be rated: accuracy, acceptance, and readability. The more accurate, acceptable, and readable the translated version is, the easier the text will be understood, according to Mangatur Nababan's theory. Main Findings: The type of sentences and translation techniques were considered as the factors that could affect the translation quality. There were four types of sentences and seven techniques used in three articles from the "Education" section on Islamqa.info/id. From the analysis, it was found that the translation quality was scored 1.91 from the scale of 3.00. Implications/Applications: The implication of this research for translators, language scientists, researchers, teachers, or students is to make a good quality translation with high accuracy, acceptance, and readability score, a translator should be aware of internal and external aspects of the target language--not the source language only, since this research found that one expression could be commonly used in one language yet strange for other language's use. Novelty/Originality of this study: The results of this research could be considered for those who work on a website translation job, from Arabic to Indonesian, in particular. Since Arabic and Indonesian languages are very different from each other in terms of grammatical structure and form of expressions thus, this study has offered useful and practical suggestions for the translation of these languages.

The Old Man and the Sea is a literature work by Ernest Hemingway. It has been translated into many languages even in Indonesian by Deera Army. Hemingway used more clause complex in producing his works. It causes problems in translation such as: translators should give more attention to the translation techniques used, readability decrease, and etc. On the other hand, Deera Army solved those problems by splitting the clause complex into shorter one. It is needed to conduct a study in how to make translation of complex clause. This study can be clearly conducted by using Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) approach. In addition, this study is aimed at: (1) describing how can be interdependency and logical semantics of complex clause in source language realized into interdependency and logical semantics of complex clause in target language of The Old Man and the Sea Novel (2) describing what translation techniques on taxis markers are used in translating from source language to target language (3) describing translation quality of clause complex translation in target language. The result of the analysis showed that there are 400 sentences which have been broken into 701 clauses. Based on the analysis, there are paratactic and hypotactic form. Paratactic took 65.30% and hypotactic, 34.50%. All of them affect translation quality. Based on the analysis, the average of accuration takes up 2.89, naturalness with 2.96 and readibility with 2.97. The writer suggests that the next researcher can conduct the same research in the deeper way.

This article aims to discuss how stuttering utterances are translated from English to Bahasa Indonesia. Data in the form of stuttering utterances spoken by Captain Haddock, a character in The Adventure of Tintin comic series, were collected to see how the translator decided to convert those utterances into Bahasa Indonesia. The method employed in this research is the qualitative-descriptive in which the data were taken from two sources(English and Bahasa Indonesia). The finding shows that there are three categories of stuttering initiator namely: intoxicated, emotions, and situations. Each category is classified based on its types, namely repetitions, hesitations, and fillers. In addition, the finding also shows that each type of stuttering was placed in a different concept on its target language named shifting. It can further be classified into preserved, altered, and omitted. Each of them affects the meaning and the message of stuttering utterances in the translation version. Finally, the statistic indicates that every type of shifting gives a significant impact to the translation quality.

In order for the translator to be able to translate the source text into the target language in a relevant way, the strata of the translated text through which relevance can be obtained (pragmatic, pragmatic-semantic, and semantic strata) should be equalized to that of the source text (Li & Luo, 2004). The translator can achieve this by raising his/her awareness of the source and target language pragmatic perspectives. To investigate the actual effect of developing knowledge of pragmatic perspectives of the source language and the target language on the quality of translation of culture-bound texts, the current study was conducted on 64 Iranian undergraduate students of English translation. The study consisted of three phases: 1) administering a culture-bound text to be translated by all participants, 2) dividing participants into two groups: one merely receiving translation exercises while the other receiving metapragmatic discussions of the pragmatic perspectives of the source language along with translation exercises, and 3) assessing the translation quality of both groups immediately and two months following the treatment. The study revealed the significant positive effect of pragmatic instruction on improving the quality of translation of culture-bound texts and maintaining the obtained knowledge. The pedagogical implications of the findings suggested incorporating the pragmalinguistic and sociopragmatic perspectives of the source language and their distinctions with the pragmalinguistic and sociopragmatic perspectives of the target language into translation classes as an integral part of translation classes.

The process Machine translation is a combination of many complex sub-processes and the quality of results of each sub-process executed in a well defined sequence determine the overall accuracy of the translation. Statistical Machine Translation approach considers each sentence in target language as a possible translation of any source language sentence. The possibility is calculated by probability and as obvious, sentence with highest probability is treated as the best translation. SMT is the most favoured approach not only because of its good results for corpus rich language pairs, but also for the tools that SMT approach has been enhanced with in past two and half decades. The paper gives a brief introduction to SMT: its steps and different tools available for each step.

The research is aimed at knowing the syntactical deviation in Indonesian-English translation committed by the sixth semester students of Letters Department UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. This qualitative study relies on verbal data in the form of students’ translation product from Indonesian into English. Its unit of analysis comprises 20 Englsih texts chosen purposively from the translation products made by 41 students who were involved in the research. The data are analyzed qualitatively in terms of the acceptability and grammaticality of the English sentences. The study shows the English text the students translated from Indonesian do not meet the quality of a good translation in terms of meaning equivalence between the source language and the target language; and the grammaticality and acceptability of English sentences. The students still produce English sentences containing many syntactical deviations. These happen to noun phrases as subject and object of the verbs; verb phrases; and clauses. The syntactical deviations are caused by their weaknesses in analyzing the meaning of source language sentences to be translated; the fault strategies used in translating; and the lack of grammatical competence. Therefore, they still need more exercises in translating Indonesian into English by exploring their linguistic and nonlinguistic competence. Besides, they still need more guidance how to translate Indonesian into English that fulfills the criteria of a good translation.

Initial studies show that there are some translations of literary works (from Indonesian to English) where the quality of the translation is questionable due to the loss of information, the addition of information, and the skewing of information. This is the main reason why this research was made. In this research we sought to assess the translation classification and quality of the English version of the novel ‘Laskar Pelangi’ (The Rainbow Troops). The translation classification of Falk et al. (2011)was employed. The translation quality was analyzed using the framework by Nababan et al. (2012). The research employed a documentation technique of descriptive qualitative study. The study found that among 3556 (words, phrases and sentences) data there are 1889 data classified as loss of information, 1527 data categorized as addition of information, and 140 data labeled as skewing of information. The translation quality of this novel was found to be less qualified since its accuracy and acceptability were both low and readability was found to be medium. In order to improve the accuracy, acceptability and readability of a translation, the authors suggest that the translator should have both good translation capabilities as well as cultural understanding of both the source language and target language.
