Background Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate body’s natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and body’s life force to aid healing. It has been reported that dysmenorrhoea can be successfully relieved by acupressure at Qihai (CV6), Guanyuan (CV4), Taichong (LIV3), Xuehai(SP10), Sanyinjiao (SP6). The sanyinjio acupoint is commonly used to induce labour and relieve pain during dysmenorrhoea. Dysmenorrhoea is a common problem among girls and acupressure is an effective non-invasive procedure to relieve pain. Acupoint Sanyinjiao (SP6) was selected for the study because it is the acupoint of choice in gynaecology and easy for girls to locate and apply pressure to without medical assistance. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of acupressure in reducing dysmenorrhoea among nursing students. Materials and Method A quasi experimental time series non-equivalent control group time series design was used for the present study. Forty nursing students who met the inclusion criteria was selected by using purposive sampling technique. Baseline proforma and numeric pain scale was used to assess the level of pain. Data analysis was done by using descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency, range, mean, median, standard deviation, uppaired “t” tet and ANOVA for repeated measures. Result There was significant difference in pain between the two group soon after, after 30 minutes and after 1 hour. The mean score of dysmenorrhoea among students before acupressure (7.95) was higher than immediately after the intervention (6.35). After 30 minutes the mean score was 4.25 and after 1 hour the mean score was (1.25). The computed value of ANOVA (F= 344.881) was found to be significant (p<0.05) in reducing dysmenorrhoea. Unpaired‘t’ test was done comparing the experimental and control group at different time series was higher than the table value (t38 = 1.69) at p< 0.05 level of significant, hence research hypothesis was accepted i.e. acupressure was effective in reducing dysmenorrhoea.

(1) Objective: This study analyzes the evolution of the body mass index (BMI) throughout the academic year associated with changes in the lifestyle associated with the place where students live during the course, lifestyle design, and health strategies for the university community. (2) Methods: A total of 93 first-year nursing students participated in this study. Data were collected throughout the course by administering self-reported questionnaires about eating habits and lifestyles, weight, and height to calculate their BMI and place of residence throughout the course. Data were analyzed using statistical analysis (Mann–Whitney, chi-square, Student’s t-test, repeated-measures analysis of variance, and least significant difference tests). (3) Results: We found that the mean BMI increases significantly throughout the course among all students regardless of sex, age, eating habits, or where they live during the course. At the beginning of the course, the mean BMI was 22.10 ± 3.64. The mean difference between the beginning of the course and the middle has a value of p-value < 0.015 and between the middle of the course and the end a p-value < 0.009. The group that increased the most is found among students who continue to live in the family nucleus rather than those who live alone or in residence. Students significantly changed their eating and health habits, especially those who live alone or in residence. (4) Conclusions: There is an increase in BMI among students. It is necessary to carry out seminars or talks that can help students understand the importance of good eating practices and healthy habits to maintain their weight and, therefore, their health, in the short, medium, and long term and acquire a good quality of life.

Abstract Background The knowledge and attitude of health care providers are important and influential factors in providing care services to the elderly and need to be considered during the training course. Simulation in geriatric nursing education can be an opportunity for learners to experience the restrictions of the elderly. The present study was conducted to determine the effect of training through simulation on the attitude and knowledge of nursing students in elderly care. Methods This study was quasi-experimental with two experimental and control groups of pre and post-test, which was conducted on 70 nursing students of the 5th semester (two groups of 35 people). For the experimental group, the elderly simulation suit was worn for two hours, which was designed by the researcher and created sensory, physical, and motor restrictions similar to the elderly for students. Before and after the study, Kogan’s attitudes toward older people scale and Palmore’s “facts on aging quiz” were completed by students. The data were analyzed using an independent t-test and paired t-test using SPSS version 16 software. Results The mean scores of students’ knowledge in the experimental and control groups had no significant difference at the beginning of the study (p < 0.05). But the mean scores of knowledge in the experimental group before and after the intervention was (9.2 ± 2.6) and (15.3 ± 3.5), respectively, and in the control group before and after the intervention was (10.4 ± 2.9) and (11.3 ± 2.6), respectively, which had a statistically significant difference (p = 0.0001). The mean scores of students’ attitudes in the experimental and control groups had no significant difference at the beginning of the study (p < 0.05). The mean scores of attitude in the experimental group before and after the intervention was (114.69 ± 8.4) and (157.31 ± 10.7), respectively and in the control group before and after the intervention was (113.34 ± 13.6) and (108.5 ± 16.6), respectively, which was significantly different (p = 0.0001). Conclusions Based on the findings, the experience of aging restrictions through simulation has improved the knowledge and attitude of nursing students towards the elderly. Nursing education requires the growth of attitudinal skills, individuals’ beliefs, and creating empathy among them, so creating simulation opportunities can assist nursing students in the educational processes.

A quasi experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of music playback on intravenous cannulation pain among children in a selected hospital. Objectives: to assess the mean posttest pain score among children in the experimental and control group, to find out the effectiveness of music playback on intravenous cannulation pain among children and to find out the association between posttest pain score and selected socio demo graphic variables of children in control group. Quasi experimental posttest only controls group design and convenience sampling technique was used to select 60 children in a selected hospital at Alappuzha district. Conceptual framework: Ernestine Wiedenbach’s Helping Art of Clinical Nursing Theory (1969). Posttest was conducted in the control and the experimental group by using FLACC Behavioral Pain Scale and Socio demographic proforma. Music playback was played to the experimental group for 10 minutes during intravenous cannulation. The data were tabulated and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The mean posttest pain score of children in the experimental group was 4.1 with SD 1.33 which was significantly lower than the mean posttest pain score of children in the control group which was 7.8 with SD 1.27 with a mean difference of 3.6. The calculated ‘t’ value 10.910 was greater than the table value 2.00, is significant at p<0.05 level with degree of freedom 58. Hence, we can conclude that the music playback was effective in reducing the pain level of children during intravenous cannulation. The analysis showed that the calculated chi square value for family monthly income, number of previous hospitalisations, previous exposure of cannulation were greater than that of the table value at p < 0.05 level of significance. Hence null hypothesis (H02) can be rejected and research hypothesis (H2) can be accepted. So, it can be concluded that there was significant association between posttest pain score an

Using a dismantled time-series design, eighteen subjects were randomly assigned to three groups: meditation ( N = 5); meditation and imagery ( N = 4); waiting list ( N = 5). Treatment lasted twelve weeks, while pre- and post-baseline periods were of four weeks. An assessment control group control was also used during baseline periods ( N = 4). The severity of psoriasis symptoms was reliably rated by dermatologists. While controlling for extraneous factors influencing psoriasis symptoms, a time-series multivariate regression analysis revealed a significant difference between the mean psoriasis ratings of treatment and control groups after treatment (partial r = .30, p < .01). No additional impact was associated with the use of the imagery technique (partial r = − .06, p > .05). Four subjects in the treatment groups, two in each condition, succeeded in clinically improving their psoriasis symptoms, and none deteriorated. The practice of mediation may be clinically effective for some patients in reducing their psoriasis symptoms.

Background: This study aimed to assess the microhardness and morphology of permanent dentin following the application of Iranian and foreign-made desensitizing toothpastes. Methods: This in vitro, experimental study evaluated 48 dentin samples prepared of the extracted sound human permanent molars. Dentin samples were randomly divided into three groups (n=16) and subjected to the application of Pooneh Iranian desensitizing toothpaste, Colgate Sensitive Pro- Relief (Poland), and no intervention (negative control). Each dentin sample was then immersed in 5 mL of a demineralizing solution for 10 hours and underwent a demineralization/remineralization cycle (pH cycling) for 14 days. The mean microhardness of the samples was measured at baseline after demineralization and after 14 days. One sample of each toothpaste group was selected for the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) assessment of dentin morphology. Finally, repeated-measures ANOVA was used to analyze the effect of time and type of toothpaste on microhardness using SPSS, version 21. Results: The comparison of the mean microhardness of the control group with experimental groups revealed no significant difference at baseline or after demineralization (P > 0.05) although this difference was significant after 14 days (P < 0.001). The mean microhardness of the two toothpaste groups was not significantly different at different time points (P > 0.05). Finally, the SEM assessment revealed a greater tubular obstruction in Pooneh group after 14 days. Conclusions: Pooneh Iranian-made desensitizing toothpaste was comparable to Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief foreign-made desensitizing toothpaste in terms of the microhardness of permanent dentin. It even demonstrated superior performance with regard to the obstruction of dentinal tubules.
