The article presents the results of a comparative analysis of the fruit formation of long-styled and short-styled plants Jasminum fruticans L. (Oleaceae). The long-styled flowers have larger ovaries and ovules than short-styled ones. Visual signs of degeneration and reduction of the structures of the ovules were not detected. At the same time, the morphs of J. fruticans differ in fruit formation. The proportion of dimeric fruits with two seeds is greater in long-styled plants. Three periods of abortion of fruits/seeds were identified: (1) 1-7 days after flowering correspond to the stage of pollination and fertilization; (2) 8-14 days are the proembryonic stage of embryogenesis; (3) 15-35 days are the stage of globular embryo. The periods of fruits abortion are the same for long- and short-styled plants. Statically significant difference between morph was revealed in the first period of abortion. Differences in morphs of fruits formation indicate less effective pollination and fertilization in short-styled plans. The fruits of J. fruticans mature three months after flowering.

Abstract Objectives The study aimed to evaluate and compare various commercially available local anesthetic solutions. Materials and Methods A total of 150 commercially available local anesthetic cartridges of similar composition (2% lidocaine with epinephrine 1:100,000) were randomly collected and divided into 3 groups. The designations of groups were selected from their product names such that each group consisted of 60 cartridges. Group S (Septodont, France) Group M (Medicaine, Korea) and Group H (HD-Caine, Pakistan). The samples were divided into five sub-groups, each consisting of 10 cartridges from each group to investigate each parameter. Results The acquired data was statistically analyzed and compared (using SPSS version 12). Compositional analysis revealed a non-significant (P>0.05) difference when the three Groups were compared with standard lidocaine and epinephrine solutions. The mean pH values of samples from group S, M and H respectively fell within the range of pH values of commercially available solutions. Non-significant difference in EPT values of Group S and H was found when efficacy was compared (p = 0.3), however a significant difference (p < 0.01) was observed in contrast to Group M. Anti-bacterial activity was observed in all the group and a non-significant difference in cell viability values of Group S and M was found (p = 0.6), while the difference was significant in comparison to Group H. Conclusion Within the limitations of these investigations, it appears that the properties of different manufacturers fall within the recommended ranges as mentioned in literature and do not appear to be statistically different in the variables we have tested.

AbstractBACKGROUNDNumerous minimally invasive approaches to the skull base have been successively developed. Knowledge of the surgical nuances of a specific approach may facilitate approach selection. This study sought to compare the nuances of an extended version of the minipterional craniotomy (EMPT) with those of the transorbital endoscopic approach (TOEA) to the anterior and middle cranial fossae (ACF and MCF, respectively).OBJECTIVETo quantitatively analyze and compare the area of exposure and surgical freedom between EMPT and TOEA to the ACF and MCF.METHODSEMPT and TOEA were carried out in 5 latex-injected cadaveric heads, bilaterally (10 sides). For each approach, the area of exposure, surgical freedom, and angle of attack were obtained with neuronavigation and statistically compared.RESULTSNo significant difference was found between the mean area of exposure of EMPT and TOEA at the ACF and MCF (P = .709 and .317, respectively). The mean exposure area at the ACF was of 13.4 ± 2.6 cm2 (mean ± standard deviation) and 13.0 ± 1.9 cm2 for EMPT and TOEA, respectively. Except for the crista galli, EMPT afforded a larger area of surgical freedom at all targets. EMPT also achieved significantly greater attack angles in vertical axis except to the crista galli. The horizontal attack angles to all targets were similar between approaches.CONCLUSIONEMPT and TOEA offer a comparable area of exposure at the ACF and MCF in the cadaver; however, the instrument maneuverability afforded by EMPT is superior. Further studies are necessary to better define their precise surgical application.

Assessed approaches to the analysis of the incidence of children in the framework of socio-hygienic monitoring in the subjects. Results. The study revealed the lack of a unified approach to the analysis of the morbidity of the population in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation within the framework of socio-hygienic monitoring, both according to the criteria for determining the priority pathologies for the region, and the duration of the analyzed period. The comparative analysis of the morbidity of the child population at the interregional level showed a significant difference in the dynamics and levels of morbidity from ecologically caused pathologies in adjacent regions, with similar social and climatic parameters. The formation of human health takes place under the conditions of the multicomponent influence of various factors. The etiology of most of the nosological forms, the degree of their dependence on the state of the external environment have been scientifically established. The most determined by the components of the environment, ecologically caused pathologies, the nature of the incidence of which is considered by the authors as a possible manifestation of the impact of a specific factor that has a priority value in the occurrence and development of these diseases. Conclusions. The study shows the expediency of unifying methods for analyzing the incidence of the population, as well as conducting a comparative analysis of the incidence of the child population at the interregional level within the framework of socio-hygienic monitoring.

Purpose of the study to carry out a comparative analysis of the state of the zonular fibers before and after surgery on UBM between femtolaser assisted and classical ultrasound cataract removal. Material and methods. 19 patients (38 eyes) with age-related cataracts. 22 eyes were with pseudo-exfoliative syndrome. All patients were examined with grade 1 lens subluxation. The first group of 19 eyes underwent cataract femto-phacoemulsification. The second group included 19 eyes without using a femtolaser. The state of the fibers was determined on the UBM on the fifth day after the operation at the end of antibiotic therapy. Results. The data showed the presence of a statistically significant difference between the group with femto-assistance and the group without it. In the first group, UBM analysis showed that the state of the zonular fibers remained in the same state in 16 of 19 eyes. In the second group, 11 of 19 eyes required ring implantation with suturing to the sclera and 3 required IOL implantation with seamless fixation to the sclera and vitrectomy. Conclusions. The appropriate path to surgery depends on the most accurate objective assessment of the condition of the lens ligaments, since the position of the IOL is one of the main factors for a good result expected by the patient after surgery. Reducing the «trauma» of the eye with lens surgery has been a key success factor and femtolaser guidance provides valuable assistance in obtaining it. Key words: lens subluxation, femtosecond laser, UBM.

Category: Lesser Toes, Midfoot/Forefoot Introduction/Purpose: Comparative analysis of Dorsal Nerve Transfer and Dorsal Neurectomy in Surgical management of Morton’s Neuroma Methods: This clinical audit was conducted on patients who had undergone surgery for Morton’s neuroma (MN) between 2002 and 2014. Data was collected using an in-depth review of patients’ case-notes. During the period studied, there were a total of 77 patients, 4 the DNT and 40 in the DN groups. The key indication for surgery in all cases reviewed was failure of the condition to improve using conservative methods. A telephonic survey with Primary outcome measure being Coughlin’s Overall patient’s satisfaction criteria and secondary outcome measures were resolution of sensory symptoms and any footwear restrictions. Results: The results of this clinical study shows excellent to good results with the Dorsal nerve transfer group (84%) and Dorsal neurectomy (80%). There were poor results in 11% in the DNT group and 15% in the DN group. Key advantages of Dorsal nerve transfer are better resolution of sensory symptoms in the toes (82%) when compared to Dorsal Neurectomy (65%). 7% reported Nov change and 11% were worse after surgery. 20% had no change and 15% were worse following surgery in DN group. Around 83% had no restriction wearing any footwear in the DNT group when compared to 80%. 17% in the DNT group and 20% were in the DN group wore modified or shoes with no heels. Conclusion: In general there is no significant difference in the outcome of the two surgery all procedures. Key advantages of Dorsal nerve transfer is better resolution of sensory symptoms in the toes (82%) when compared to Dorsal Neurectomy (65%). Around 83% in DNT group and 80% in DN group had no restriction wearing any footwear gain is almost similar in both groups in the DNT group. Whilst Dorsal nerve transfer is a slightly longer procedure than Dorsal neurectomy as some problems were encountered relating to mobilising the nerve due to overlying prominent blood vessels or nerve anomalies.

A high-leakage core has been known to be a challenging problem not only for a two-step homogenization approach but also for a direct heterogeneous approach. In this paper the DIMPLE S06 core, which is a small high-leakage core, has been analyzed by a direct heterogeneous modeling approach and by a two-step homogenization modeling approach, using contemporary code systems developed for reactor core analysis. The focus of this work is a comprehensive comparative analysis of the conventional approaches and codes with a small core design, DIMPLE S06 critical experiment. The calculation procedure for the two approaches is explicitly presented in this paper. Comprehensive comparative analysis is performed by neutronics parameters: multiplication factor and assembly power distribution. Comparison of two-group homogenized cross sections from each lattice physics codes shows that the generated transport cross section has significant difference according to the transport approximation to treat anisotropic scattering effect. The necessity of the ADF to correct the discontinuity at the assembly interfaces is clearly presented by the flux distributions and the result of two-step approach. Finally, the two approaches show consistent results for all codes, while the comparison with the reference generated by MCNP shows significant error except for another Monte Carlo code, SERPENT2.

ABSTRACT Introduction Success of root canal therapy (RCT) is largely dependent upon the quality of biomechanical preparation and obturation of the pulp canal. Improperly cleaned or shaped root canal, regardless of the type of obturation method and obturating material, cannot lead to the success of endodontic therapy. Hence, we conducted a clinical comparative analysis of two obturating techniques. Materials and methods A total of 140 patients receiving RCT at the department of Endodontic were included in the present study. The average follow-up time for the patients was 29 months (18–38 months). Patients were grouped into two depending on the type of obturating technique used. Evaluation of the clinical and radiographic follow-up records of the patients was done and analysis was made. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for assessing the level of significance. Results The average age of the patients undergoing obturation with carrier-based obturation (CO) technique and lateral compaction (LC) technique was 43 and 48 years respectively. While comparing failure and success of the teeth at the time of follow-up, nonsignificant results were obtained. Significant difference was seen, while comparing the presence of voids and type of teeth in which endodontic therapy was performed using different obturating techniques. Conclusion Endodontic therapy done with LC obturating technique or with CO technique shows prognostic difference on the outcome or quality of treatment therapy. Clinical significance Quality of obturation is more important rather than type while performing endodontic therapy for better prognosis.
