Physical activity is one of the most important element of a healthy lifestyle and determinant of the physical and mental health. According to the WHO, limited physical activity is the fourth most common premature death risk factor in the world. Regular sport and active recreation is very important for our health. Physical exercise is the most effective method used by physiotherapists to prevent and slow down the aging process of the body, and consequently, diseases of elderly (e.g. osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension and injuries). Physical activity has a positive effect on the quality of life and cognitive functions of elderly. The physiotherapeutic program should be based on functional training involving the entire human body. To plan and monitor the effectiveness of the training, different types of tests are used to assess the functional status of elderly people. These tests are based on the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment considering the state of health, physical and mental fitness as well as social and environmental determinants.

Internet use reduces the isolation or exclusion of individuals in specific socio-economic groups and, consequently, increases the quality of life, with this being especially the case for the elderly. Knowing that the elderly are becoming particularly active in dedicating time to the Internet, we provide evidence of the time that Spanish individuals aged 65 and older dedicate to two online activities: search and communications. We estimate a SUR model with data from the STUS for 2009-2010. Our main results indicate that being male has a positive influence on the time devoted to search on the Internet. Furthermore, time devoted to both Internet activities increases with higher levels of education and at the highest level of individual health.

Institutionalization of elderly Indians seems to have been increasing with the aging of the twentieth century. This paper looks at Indian thought and cultural practice with regard to the elderly in time perspective.  Historically, although the main prescription to cultural practice and respect for the elderly came from the various Indian Scriptures, this was coloured by the specific needs of each society which changed when these societies were nomadic, settled farmers or were actively engaged in war. Later other factors like industrialization resulted in a breakdown of the extended family in which the father no matter how old or productive was the authority figure who demanded respect. This trend was also seen in published literature about the attitude of other nationalities towards their elderly. Health professionals have been grappling with the role of health care workers in achieving successful patients outcomes based on attitudes towards the elderly. More work needs to be done on this subject in this country.

IntroductionThere is a high prevalence of hypertension in the elderly, as evidenced by clinical and health behavioral policies. Still, there are uncertainties on the treatment of hypertension, especially treatment of the very elderly. These considerations have largely been ignored in clinical trials due to concern regarding contamination by other pathologies that are difficult to frame and manage. Methods We performed an effective and ample literature review and provided reflections on the Consensus Conference ACCF/AHA 2011 on the principle types of hypertension found in the elderly. We also considered the associated principle pathologies for various treatments and related organs.Discussion Even if the goal of treatment of elevated blood pressure in the elderly is same as in younger population, it is no longer certain that a target systolic blood pressure (SBP) <140 mmHg should be persistently reached in the very elderly. It is important to note that for all studies these values have never been reached. In the treatment of isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) the preferred target is a SBP >160 mmHg. Treating hypertension in the elderly and very elderly reduces the risk of stroke and heart failure, though the evidence is inconclusive for all-cause mortality. Conclusion Hypertension in the elderly is very common and needs to be treated with criteria that consider the patient's age, comorbidities, lifestyle and adherence. Above all, in the very elderly, therapeutic treatment should be personalized according to the above criteria. Where possible pharmaceutical therapy should be limited at the preference of healthy lifestyle changes (physical activity, diet, etc.).
