Abstract. This study uses implicit voice theory to examine the influence of employees’ critical thinking and leaders’ inspirational motivation on employees’ voice behavior via voice efficacy. The results of a pretest of 302 employees using critical thinking questionnaires and a field study of 273 dyads of supervisors and their subordinates revealed that both employees’ critical thinking and leaders’ inspirational motivation had a positive effect on employees’ voice and that voice efficacy mediates the relationships among employees’ critical thinking, leaders’ inspirational motivation, and employees’ voice. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

The study aims to examine the problem of forced displacement and its social and economic problems in light of the Syrian crisis. Such an aim helps to know the difficulties and challenges facing the children of displaced families in learning, and the reasons for their lack of enrolment. It also clarifies whether there are significant statistical differences at  among the attitudes of the children of the displaced families towards education regarding the following variables: (the work of the head of the family, the economic level of the family, and the work of the children). The study has adopted the descriptive-analytical approach;  a questionnaire was adopted as a tool to collect information. The study was applied to a sample of displaced families in Jaramana City in the governorate of Damascus countryside. The sample consisted of sixty items that represent 40% of the displaced families. Results have shown that the largest percentage of the social and economic problems that the displaced families suffer from is due to the high rents of houses and apartments, and to the high prices and the inability to purchase the basic needs. There are statistically significant differences between the attitudes of the children of the displaced families towards education due to the variable of work of the head of the family, and to the variable of the economic level. For the family, the study has recommended, in light of its findings, several recommendations, including: Enacting temporary laws for the displaced families that include: educating their children, giving priority to employing the members of these families, providing them with houses, and granting them easy and interest-free loans that enable them to buy a house or repair their homes when they return to their liberated from terror areas.

This article examines how workplace cynicism moderates the relationship between interactional fairness and perceptions of organizational support (POS). Using a sample of full-time employees, I found a positive, direct effect between interactional fairness and POS. Furthermore, the moderating effect suggests the relation between interactional fairness and POS was stronger for less cynical employees. Incorporating a social exchange framework, this article discusses how the typically positive effect of interactional fairness is lost on cynical employees. This result was confirmed using a controlled scenario-based protocol, which replicated the results of the field study. Practical implications and directions for future research are discussed.

This study investigates the role of audit review as feedback to workpaper preparers. Specifically, we examine whether review affects preparers' attempts to improve their performance, manage their reviewers' impressions of their work, and seek additional feedback from their reviewers. We also examine the effects of preparers' perceptions of their reviewers' power. Power has previously been shown to be a critical construct affecting feedback. Our findings suggest that perceptions of reviewer power affect preparers' responses to review. Specifically, referent power appears to have the most positive effect on preparer's responses, while perceptions of coercive power have detrimental effects.

Purpose: The main aim of this research is to study the relationship between innovative marketing - in its various dimensions (innovation in product, innovation in price, innovation in promotion, innovation in distribution) - and enhancing the competitive advantage of tourist souvenirs in Egypt. Research methodology: The study adopted the descriptive-analytical approach for accurate and detailed descriptions of the study’s subject quantitatively and qualitatively and analyzed data available on this subject. The field study included surveying a random sample of tourists who frequented the souvenirs and handicrafts stores in various tourist cities in Egypt. Results: There is a statistically significant effect of innovative marketing in enhancing tourist souvenirs’ competitive advantage in Egypt. Overall findings highlighted that all the hypotheses were accepted. Limitations: The repercussions of the COVID-19 virus crisis reduced the scope of the study to only tourists in South Sinai and Red sea Governorates; whereas, tourist souvenirs stores were allowed to operate in accordance with the precautionary measures in only three main governorates: the Red Sea, South Sinai, and Marsa Matrouh, in addition to some gift shops in major hotels. Contribution: The study findings provide guidelines for practitioners within the tourist souvenirs and handicrafts sector to undertake the results and adapt them to assess and enhance their performance. Thus, they could improve their competitiveness. Keywords: Tourist souvenirs, Innovative marketing, Competitive advantage

Purpose – The purpose of these studies was to investigate how the repeated use of impression management (IM) tactics is related to supervisor perceptions in newly formed supervisor-subordinate dyads. Design/methodology/approach – Two studies were conducted – a lab study in which participants evaluated a confederate who performed an accounting task while using different types of IM across five trials, and a field study examining the IM tactics of new employees and their supervisors' ratings of likability and performance at two points in time. Findings – In the lab study, the repeated use of ingratiation had an increasingly positive effect on performance ratings, whereas repeated apologies had an increasingly negative effect on evaluations of performance. The influence of IM tactics on ratings of subordinate likability did not change with repeated use. In the field study, subordinates' use of apologies and justifications was more strongly associated with supervisor evaluations of likability and performance in earlier stages of their relationship. Practical implications – Employees need to be mindful that IM tactics may vary in their effectiveness depending on the timing and frequency of their use. Furthermore, supervisors should consider the initial influence that IM has on their ability to objectively evaluate new subordinates. Originality/value – This research is unique in that it examined how the repeated use of both assertive (i.e. ingratiation and self-promotion) and defensive (i.e. apologies and justifications) IM tactics are related to both evaluations of likability and performance ratings at multiple points in time.

This field study reports the first attempt to define theoretically a phenomenon called “psychological momentum” and empirically to demonstrate its influence. Psychological momentum was defined as an added or gained psychological power which changes interpersonal perceptions and influences an individual's mental and physical performance. Based upon this theoretical premise, it was hypothesized that, when two persons compete against each other, the competitor who has psychological momentum is more likely to win. On the other hand, if neither competitor has psychological momentum the probability of winning is equal for both. Archival data used in testing this hypothesis were obtained from a competitive sports tournament. The results strongly supported the hypothesis. It was also found that the over-all positive effect of psychological momentum was greater for male than female competitors. This effect, however, seemed to be mediated by the amount of competitors' experience. That is, the influence decreased as men's competitive experience increased and as women's experience decreased. The results were briefly discussed and suggestions for further research were offered.

AbstractThough bilingual dictionaries (German-Arabic) contain a great number of compound words which help decode their meaning, a great number of these words are not listed in these dictionaries. This comes as a result of producing daily new constructions especially in the field of press and media, which causes a great difficulty in defining the meaning of these compound words.German Language Department students at the College of Languages and Translation find a great difficulty in translating compound words into Arabic, because they give literal translation of these words without doing any research for an Arabic equivalent. Since these words are composed of phrases or prepositional phrases, transference process to Arabic requires first to deconstruct these words into a phrase or a suitable prepositional phrase before starting the process of translation. The difficulty lies in the fact that there are no fixed deconstructing rules, which requires accurate knowledge of the characteristics of these words especially the way they are compound and deconstructed. The research attempts at finding a mechanism which students can practice in language classes. Later, in translation classes, this will help them to correctly transfer these words into Arabic
