Nikitsky Botanical Garden is one of the oldest botanical institutions in Russia. For more than two centuries of history, the appearance of the garden has repeatedly changed. A significant amount of work on the development of the territory dates back to the post-war period. In the late 40s, a staircase with a cascade of pools was erected, the structure of the axis of which is built on the principle of an enfilade with adjacent spatial elements that create a through expressive perspective. The appearance of the cascade changed in the following years. The conducted historical analysis and visual full-scale surveys of the Lower Park of the Nikitsky Botanical Garden along the axis of the Cascade Staircase showed the loss of the integrity of the visual connection between the spatial elements. The article proposes the concept of restoring visual connections. The territory of the object was divided according to the compositional principle into six zones. The space includes a number of viewpoints from which an overview of various parts of the landscape is revealed, consisting of viewing platforms, vegetation, water objects and other elements connected by stairs. It is possible to restore the connections between the viewpoints of the garden and the landscapes perceived from them on this object using the methods of arboristics and arboplasty. This will significantly improve the aesthetic appearance of the space, restore its integrity and a certain solemnity inherent in the formation.

The article is devoted to combating corruption in the penal system. It compares the historical period of the USSR penitentiary system in the 1940s–1950s with the current state. The article was based on archival documents, statistical data, domestic and foreign legislation, scientific, monographic and educational publications on the issues under study. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the social and economic significance of the fight against corruption, the need for constant study of corruption manifestations through comparative legal and historical analysis to prevent the negative consequences of corruption and minimize its consequences. The methodological basis of the research is organized on the dialectical approach of cognition using the following main methods: analysis and synthesis, comparative legal, formal legal and statistical methods. In the course of the research, the state of the penitentiary system of the USSR in the 1940s–1950s was examined, the concept and types of costs of corruption, the main forms of their manifestation in the postwar years were studied. The post-war and current state of losses from corruption is analyzed, attention is drawn to the high level of latency of corruption crimes throughout all time periods. The tools of the system of methods for reducing costs and combating the corruption were studied, the most suitable foreign mechanisms for combating the corruption manifestations were identified. The study resulted in the main directions and principles of planning measures to prevent the corruption in the penal system of the Russian Federation. The significance of the study lies in the possibility of using its results for minimizing corruption risks in the service activities of personnel of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia. The result of the work is determined by the conclusion about the need for an integrated scientific and systematic approach to countering the corruption both in a separate state department and in the Russian state as a whole. The current state of the Moscow Metro station of the first priority that became operational in 1935 does not allow it to be called a cultural heritage site. This is due to the fact that lighting modernisation carried out by the Moscow Metro was based on fluorescent lamps. Such lamps are more energy efficient compared to incandescent lamps, which were used in original lighting devices specified in the Station Lighting Project developed by architects and designers. However, they significantly changed the station appearance, transforming the originally designed station with entire well visible architectural tectonics?1 from the standpoint of lighting into a simple, flat, unremarkable, and little loaded station of the Moscow Metro./br> This paper describes a method of lighting reconstruction at Krasnoselskaya station by means of original lighting devices that meet modern standards and requirements for cultural heritage sites. The historical analysis on the development of the station lighting environment was conducted during its operation in order to understand what kind of station was conceived by its architects, what changes occurred with its lighting over time, and how it influenced the station appearance and safety of passenger transportation.

The aesthetic value of a construction cannot be perceived just as a separate entity, but it can be cognized in the context and not only a visual one, in space. It is necessary to see the entire complex of the accompanying phenomena, all the flow of the unfolding metaphors and values. In the model in view the figure of the author-creator must be reconsidered as no longer conforming to today's reality. The development of the Stalinist Empire style, as well as its transformations, is considered as one of the specific phenomena in the history of well-known constructions

The current state and problems of agricultural advisory organization in Ukraine on the basis of historical analysis of the evolution of the formation and development of agricultural knowledge and information in the world and in modern Ukraine, the involvement of peasants in the active use of innovative solutions in agricultural production, storage and processing of agricultural products was highlighted. The basic principles of the organization of agricultural advisory activity, features of interaction of advisory services with agrarian business, the government, a science and education were formulated. Forms of scientific-consulting and information support of the processes of transfer of innovative technologies in agro-industrial production were given. Ways to improve the organization of agricultural advisory activities in Ukraine using the potential of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine were proposed. The edition is recommended for specialists of agricultural advisory services, scientists, teachers and students of agricultural education institutions, participants of the system of training and retraining of personnel of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine.

Since the early days of gene therapy, both the scientific community and the public have perceived the ethical challenges intrinsic to this discipline. First, the technology exploited by gene therapy is still experimental and burdened by important safety issues. Second, in several instances gene therapy aims at stably modifying the genetic characteristics of individuals. Third, the same modifications could in principle be applied also to embryos, foetuses or germ cells. Finally, while gene therapy applications are generally accepted for therapeutic purposes, the same gene transfer technologies could also be exploited to improve the aesthetic appearance, or the physical and intellectual performance of people. The definition of suitable guidelines for a controlled, ethically accepted translation of gene therapy to the clinics remains a major challenge for the near future.

The natural beauty of coral reefs attracts millions of tourists worldwide resulting in substantial revenues for the adjoining economies. Although their visual appearance is a pivotal factor attracting humans to coral reefs current monitoring protocols exclusively target biogeochemical parameters, neglecting changes in their aesthetic appearance. Here we introduce a standardized computational approach to assess coral reef environments based on 109 visual features designed to evaluate the aesthetic appearance of art. The main feature groups include color intensity and diversity of the image, relative size, color, and distribution of discernable objects within the image, and texture. Specific coral reef aesthetic values combining all 109 features were calibrated against an established biogeochemical assessment (NCEAS) using machine learning algorithms. These values were generated for ∼2,100 random photographic images collected from 9 coral reef locations exposed to varying levels of anthropogenic influence across 2 ocean systems. Aesthetic values proved accurate predictors of the NCEAS scores (root mean square error < 5 forN≥ 3) and significantly correlated to microbial abundance at each site. This shows that mathematical approaches designed to assess the aesthetic appearance of photographic images can be used as an inexpensive monitoring tool for coral reef ecosystems. It further suggests that human perception of aesthetics is not purely subjective but influenced by inherent reactions towards measurable visual cues. By quantifying aesthetic features of coral reef systems this method provides a cost efficient monitoring tool that targets one of the most important socioeconomic values of coral reefs directly tied to revenue for its local population.

Microtia is a congenital malformation affecting one in 5000 individuals and is characterized by physical deformity or absence of the outer ear. Nowadays, surgical reconstruction with autologous tissue is the most common clinical practice. The procedure requires a high level of manual and artistic techniques of a surgeon in carving and sculpting of harvested costal cartilage of the patient to recreate an auricular framework to insert within a skin pocket obtained at the malformed ear region. The aesthetic outcomes of the surgery are highly dependent on the experience of the surgeon performing the surgery. For this reason, surgeons need simulators to acquire adequate technical skills out of the surgery room without compromising the aesthetic appearance of the patient. The current paper aims to describe and analyze the different materials and methods adopted during the history of autologous ear reconstruction (AER) simulation to train surgeons by practice on geometrically and mechanically accurate physical replicas. Recent advances in 3D modelling software and manufacturing technologies to increase the effectiveness of AER simulators are particularly described to provide more recent outcomes.

According to youth experts, a significant number of contemporary young people in Western societies reach adulthood at a later age than previous generations. This phenomenon is generally perceived as a temporary misstep on the path to default patterns of transition established in the 1950s and 1960s. Given the current societal context, should the transition to adulthood today really conform to that model? This paper provides an historical analysis of transitions to adulthood to enquire whether the post-war model can still be considered a meaningful reference today. Were routes of transition similar or different in earlier times, or has the model always existed? To answer this question, the paper looks at demographics in two case countries, Finland and France, in three periods: the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the 1950s-1970s, and the early twenty-first century. The paper argues that the post-war generation?s rapid patterns of transition w ere unique, resulting from a sustained period of economic growth in developed societies. This has generated new pathways of transition and a model of adulthood still used as a standard point today, even though the current socio-economic context has changed. Transitions to adulthood are not static. They have always evolved, mirroring the wider historical context within which individuals operate.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Historical maps rich in historical information play an important role in fields such as tourism and history education. However, for ordinary people without knowledge of historical studies, it is difficult to understand inaccurate old maps that have not undergone surveying and to comprehend them in comparison with the current city townscape. Therefore, conventionally in GIS, a large number of corresponding points are prepared between an inaccurate historical map and an accurate map, the coordinates of the historical map are converted by forming a triangular mesh and conducting coordinate complement calculation, and the entire historical map image is re-represented by coordinate conversion. However, as shown in Figure 1, with this method there is a serious problem that causes distortion in the aesthetic appearance of the historical map, and remarkable impairment. It can be said that this problem has greatly damaged opportunities to use historical maps for tourism and historical education.</p><p>In this paper, we introduce our technology to solve this problem. Our technology has been implemented in the historical map viewer named Maplat, which is available at https://github.com/code4nara/Maplat as MIT-licensed open source.</p>

Trees in the landscape have many important roles; one of them is aesthetics function. Therefore, tree species selection must be considered well. Indonesia has big number of tree biodiversity that can use for tree selection purposes. The selection can be considered based on physical characteristics and ecological characteristics of the tree species. Therefore, purposes of this study are 1) to identify ecological distribution of native tree species in Java island, 2) to identify native tree species which have high aesthetic value, and 3) to arrange native tree species list that have potential to be developed for aesthetic use in the landscape. This study conducted in Cibodas Botanical Garden. The method used for this research is literature study from Botanical Garden Catalogue, direct survey method, aesthetic analyze using Key Performance Index for aesthetic quality assessment. The results of this research is there are 223 Java Island native tree species collection in Cibodas Botanical Garden. The habitat of these collections of tree species is evenly distributed throughout the island of Java. Most can grow well in tropical zones (0-1000 masl) and tropical-mountain zones (0-2400 masl). Based on the aesthetic criteria assessment there are 50 species belonging to the good category, 101 species are included in the moderate category, and only one species is categorized as bad.
