AbstractThis article provides a new interpretation of the changes that occur in party-civil society relations when progressive parties of mass-based origin gain state power by looking at the experience of the Brazilian Workers’ Party (PT) during the Lula administration. The need to preserve what is defined here as ‘social governability’ changes the nature of party-movement relationships when political parties move from opposition to government. The article shows how the PT in national executive public office, to a large extent, managed to secure social governability through reward-based linkages, such as the distribution of jobs in the state apparatus and the allocation of massive state subsidies.

This study aimed to analyze: (i) the position of hadiths about risywah; (ii) the legal view of the hadiths concerning risywah; (iii) the form of risywah application based on these hadiths; and (iv) the solution of the Prophet's hadiths in eradicating the phenomenon of risywah. This research was qualitative descriptive research with lafzi and thematic methods (mawdlu'i). The results showed several things. First, there are a number of hadiths of the Prophet that generally be used as arguments (legal basis) in discussing risywah and its application in the life of mankind. Second, the hadiths of the Prophet turned out to be the same conclusion that risywah is an act that gets a curse from Allah and becomes a very strong foundation to establish the prohibition of risywah. Third, the hadiths of the Prophet also provide some examples of applications from risywah itself, among others: giving gifts to officials or state officials, giving bribes with the intention of canceling legal processes or provisions, and giving bribes in an effort to escape from an obligation. Fourth, hadiths of the Prophet (s) provide solutions to prevent and eradicate risywah that have proven effective in the prophetic era and also in the era of Khulafa' al-Rasyidun, among others in the form of coaching (tarbiyah) faith in officials and state apparatus, improving the system of supervision and audit of the wealth of officials and authorities, and the determination and imposition of strict sanctions to people who are proven to be involved in risywah.

This study was a qualitative descriptive study and data were obtained through observation, interviews, and archival records. After the data was collected, the data were analyzed using interactive model analysis. The results of this study showed that the failure of these four new political parties in Jambi Province was related to the absence of figures that were widely known to the public. The characteristics of local politics which were affected by emotional and primordial ties made political parties adopt the technocrat aristocratic pattern to maintain their existence in the political arena in Jambi Province. The success of political parties in Jambi Province was closely related to public voting behavior that was influenced by the presence of figures with technocrat backgrounds in large parties. It was proven by the existence of old parties because they had famous figures from former officials or state apparatus as well as families of public officials such as Hasan Basri Agus (Golkar), and Nurdin Hamzah family (PAN).

This article is the result of a research on the Kaharingan problematic issues of religious identity after being integrated into Hindu Dharma. During the ‘New Order’ (President Soeharto's government) Kaharingan religion was not included in one of the religions served by the state. The issue of state recognition and the ease of obtaining civil services for Kaharingan adherents are strong reasons for Kaharingan religious leaders to integrate Kaharingan as part of Hinduism. The research raises the issues: (1) how is the process of integrating Kaharingan religion into Hindu Dharma? (2) what are the implications of such integration? and, (3) how is the existence of Kaharingan religious identity as the original ‘Dayak tribe religion’ after integration into Hindu Dharma in the future? This study aims to portray the existence of Kaharingan religion during integration into Hindu Dharma. This type of research is qualitative-descriptive with the method of collecting data through observation and interviews with religious leaders and administrators of religious institutions namely the Hindu Kaharingan Grand Council (MB-AHK), as well as an analysis of documents related to the object of research. Theories used in this research are integration theory, identity theory and locality theory. After winning a war of national liberation, FRELIMO faces the vexing question of whether socialism now can be established. With respect to Guinea-Bissau, Amilcar Cabral emphasized: ‘This depends on the instruments used to effect the transition to socialism; the essential factor is the nature of the state....“ No doubt his statement was premised on the belief that socialism begins with the conquest of the state by the producing classes. They must seize the state apparatus to defeat the ruling class whose power is concentrated there. Both the means of coercion and the forces that reproduce the system itself are part of this domain. It is only by gaining control of state power, which is a political act, that the working classes can subsequently organize a socialist economy.
