This chapter proposes a comprehensive approach to understand not only how augmented reality and virtual reality operate within the tourism industry, but also how mixed reality can contribute to enhance the visitor experience and how tourism organizations can move beyond traditional communication and physical experiences into a new type of tourism approach that helps them stay relevant in the long term, as well as in the mid-term. Since the tourism industry is amongst the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, changes are essential to ensure an adequate adaptation to the ‘new normal'. Technology enables various tourist organizations to generate greater value creation and opens possibilities to be able to extend the visit beyond physical presence, to ensure the safety of workers and visitors, to improve processes, and to make them more competitive overall. If this is carried out in collaboration with all stakeholders, one destination can generate a solid network to promote itself and become competitive during travel restrictions and in preparation for a post-pandemic new normal.

The world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic that has impacted economies and millions of people worldwide. The fact that COVID-19 is highly contagious from person to person has greatly affected the daily lives of people, and it has also had a devastating effect on many sectors, particularly the tourism industry. In order to mitigate losses for the tourism sector and for it to gain a new dynamism under the current pandemic conditions, monitoring and analyzing online reviews is an important factor for better understanding the needs and desires of customers. The purpose of this study was to determine the main topics in online reviews by foreign guests staying in İstanbul during the pandemic period using text mining techniques. The information obtained as a result of the analysis is important in terms of understanding how to manage the current situation, developing suggestions for solutions, improving service quality, making future decisions, and adapting to the new normal.

The religion approach in realizing the new normal scenario in the pandemic era is urgent considering that religious doctrine is easier to accept and obey. So that it can be an effective step to prevent transmission. This research is qualitative research. This type of research is library research. The data collection method is done by reading and taking notes and processing data related to the social distancing perspective of Al-Ghazali's works of Sufism. This study found similarities between the social distancing perspective of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the social distancing perspective of Al-Ghazali's Sufism. This similarity is at least in two ways, first both emphasize the importance of maintaining distance from others, the second in the realm of strategy. The basic difference is in the realm of goals. The existence of this equation causes social distancing in the new normal era, the perspective of Sufism is important to offer and deserve to be published. and other things that underlie are two things, first, so that social distancing is not only maintaining immunity but also maintaining faith. The two social interaction strategies originating from religious doctrine will be easier to comply with given the ineffectiveness of government advice in implementing social distancing. Efforts to maintain one's consistency in implementing social distancing, there are three things that need to be considered, first to keep busy with positive things at home, second always to remember the dangers of interacting with the general public, third to minimize dependence on other people.

The outbreak and spread of covid-19 disease has resulted in countries of the world placing travel restrictions and closure of their borders to movements to and from other countries. The tourism industry is one of the sectors that would be greatly affected. Data for the study was generated from desk review of secondary materials, online blogs and interview through social media chat. Findings of the study reveal that the outbreak and spread of covid-19 disease led to rapid shutdowns in cities and states across the country, which greatly affected the tourism industry. Industries in the tourism sector such as airlines, hotels, entertainment and hospitality industries are facing declining demand and patronage with travel crashes and cancellations expected to continue. The increased cancellations of hotels and travel bookings resulted in billions of dollars in revenue loss and hundreds of thousands of job loss in the country. The findings of the study reveal that covid-19 is already worsening the unemployment situations in the country, resulting in loss of substantial revenue to the government, increasing incidence of poverty among others. Based on the findings, the study recommends the need for diversification priorities to alternative sectors such as tourism and agriculture and compensation to business operators in the tourism and other critical sector.

COVID-19 struck the world, and nothing has remained the same. The various industries of the world can attest to how much effect the abrupt disruption amounted to their various sectors and how much it affected them in terms of revenue generation, human resources, and flow of operation. Although some were eventually able to gain their footing by being able to leverage technological solutions, tourism felt the brunt of the pandemic as the operations were brought to a sudden halt, and the tourism sector found it very challenging to cope. Many were let off their jobs, and what used to be a great source of revenue generation for several economies suffered a great loss. The pandemic without any doubt served as a wakeup call to the reality of the not-so-effective state of the tourism sector. Technology brought about the solutions with which other industries withstood the ravaging challenges of the pandemic. The digital world is the new normal for the world, and for the tourism industry to grow, it must find the best way to leverage technological solutions.

Tourism is regarded as a powerful force in the rise of pandemic diseases as the movement of people is seen as a pathway for the spread of such diseases. The sector is thus susceptible to measures to prevent the spread of pandemics. In the wake of COVID-19, unprecedented lockdown regulations relating to travel restrictions and social distancing have had a direct and indirect impact on the tourism industry and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travel in particular. More than half of the domestic tourism market comprises tourists who visit friends and relatives in all corners of South Africa. With the restrictions on public gatherings and travel in the country, inter/intra provincial travel largely ceased on 26 March 2020. This paper draws on existing literature, as well as current media sources to review the literature on the legacy of VFR travel; assess the impact of COVID-19 on VFR travel; and finally, to examine the opportunity that might be created by COVID-19 for such travel. It argues that, in the wake of COVID-19, VRF has the potential to fuel the resurgence of the tourism industry in South Africa, especially domestic tourism. Thus, destination marketing organisations might consider a coordinated effort to market this form of travel.

The COVID-19 pandemic swept the world at the beginning of 2020. Countries launched into a state of emergency, involving lockdown and quarantine. When social distancing became the “new normal,” people were forced to stay in, working and communicating remotely at home. For many, an oppressive feeling of “being trapped” creates inertia, a strange lack of adequate energy to even move. Bodies no longer function in a social context. Participating in the Massive and Microscopic sense-making project (Markham & Harris) prompted me to engage in autoethnographic self-exploration of my own embodiment in relation to the pandemic, asking questions such as: How do we go about becoming reconnected again? How can we use movement and the body as a curriculum to learn and unlearn ourselves?
