Research into the opportunities offered by electronic media, as regards finding and acquiring knowledge, together with the development of new teaching and learning methods for the field of art and culture is the focus of the work being carried out by the Media Arts Research Studies (MARS) research group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Media Communication. This chapter illustrates the requirements on electronic and digital media concepts in the context of e-learning, using the very latest developments and experience in this sector as examples. In the broadest sense, the aim is to visualise information and create networked “knowledge spaces” which are accessible to users as new forms of teaching and learning through play. Experimental methods, tools and interfaces that support communication between the digital and physical spaces and investigate new forms of knowledge retrieval are being developed and tested.

“Heidegger is the petty bourgeois of German philosophy, the man who has placed on German philosophy his kitschy night-cap […] When I see that even super-intelligent people have been taken in by Heidegger, […] I feel sickened to this day. […] Heidegger used to hold court at Todtnauberg and at all times would allow himself to be admired on his philosophical Black Forest plinth like a sacred cow. […] They made their pilgramages, as it were, into the philosophical Black Forest, to the sacred Martin Heidegger and knelt down before their idol”--- Thomas BernhardAbstract:In spring 2014, three volumes of the Schwarze Hefte (Black Notebooks), Heidegger’s philosophical notebooks, were published in the German edition of his collected works. They contain notes taken in the years 1931-1941 and have resulted in public debates about the role of anti-Semitism in Heidegger’s thought. This article asks: What are and should be the implications of the publication of the Black Notebooks for the reception of Heidegger in the study, theory, and philosophy of media, communication, and technology? It discusses Theodor W. Adorno’s and Moishe Postone’s contributions to the critical theory of anti-Semitism and applies these approaches for an analysis of Heidegger’s Black Notebooks. The analysis shows that the logic of modern technology plays an important role in the Black Notebooks. The paper therefore also re-visits some of Heidegger’s writings on technology in light of the Black Notebooks. There is a logical link between the Black Notebooks' anti-Semitism and the analysis of technology in Being and Time and The Question Concerning Technology. The first publication provides the missing link and grounding for the second and the third.Heidegger’s works have had significant influence on studies of the media, communication, and the Internet. Given the anti-Semitism in the Black Notebooks, it is time that Heideggerians abandon Heidegger, and instead focus on  alternative traditions of thought. It is now also the moment where scholars should consider stopping to eulogise and reference Heidegger when theorising and analysing the media, communication, culture, technology, digital media, and the Internet.Image source: By Willy Pragher (Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg) [CC BY-SA 3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

Problems in today’s learning includes the low competence of teachers in the use of media for teaching and learning. Among the weaknesses of teachers is the lack of the ability in using the media in learning fiqih mawaris. Many teachers still use conventional media such as markers, board and paper. This affects on the low level of students’ ability on the subject of fiqih mawaris. This study aims to understand the competence of teachers in teaching and learning fiqih mawaris through the collaboration of conventional media and digital media (the application of At-Tashil) at the training center of Balai Diklat Keagamaan (BDK) Aceh. This study adopts qualitative approaches. Data were collected through interviews, the study of documents and observations, while collected data were analyzed through data reduction, presentation of data and the withdrawal of conclusion. The results show that teachers’ competence on subjects of the fiqih mawaris was improved through the process of collaboration between conventional media and modern media of At-Tashil application.

Most universities offer centralized web resources that are designed to help staff and students manage their learning experience. The author suggests that these closed systems, variously called Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) or Learning Management Systems (LMS), are not the best solution for digital-media arts education. Instead, external user-centric web services should be allowed to flow into the university web systems. In this way students and teachers increase their participation in the broader production (and critique) of knowledge in the media arts and other disciplines.

With the development of network, an increasing amount of broadcast television information transforms from simulation into digit, which therefor make the security of media information an imminent issue to be concerned. In this paper, a new kind of intrusion detection model was designed for the media information security system. In the system, both the false alarm rate and missing report rate decreased by using support vector machine classification technique in this new model. As a result of the experimental results, our algorithm processed a high classification accuracy and efficiency.

This research aimed to find out the students’ perception and challenges in lteaching and learning process through Pow Toon software. Qualitative data are gained from classroom observation, questionnaire, and interview. The qualitative data are analysed by assembling the data, coding the data, comparing the data to the theory, building interpretations, and reporting the outcomes. The result of the research shows the students' perceptions of learning through this kind of software and describes the challenges found by both the teachers and the students. Thus, it is also found out that learning by using animation video also make a learning process more interesting. However, one of the challenges that the students found in learning through the animation video from Pow Toon software is the motion of the animation itself that distract students’ concentration; therefore, the teachers who will use the media should consider best instructional technique in the teaching and learning process. In addition, the duration when the explanation on the video is too fast. So they need to extra concentrate to the material itself. Yet, the use of digital media in teaching and learning process is one of innovative ways and it is a necessity for the millenium era.

One of the characteristics of the post-literacy era is the emergence of the communication gap between “analogue” and “digital” media generations. Among their distinctive features are not only different media practices, often in mismatched media environments, but also various thematic orientations of generational media communications. Based on the author’s socio-cultural concept of media generations and the use of the Sketch Engine, a modern cloud tool for studying large text collections, thematic generational dominants in the media were identified and the perspectives for intergenerational media communication are formulated.

The change in teachers' teaching methods since the world was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the country's education system. Teachers need to implement blended teaching and learning (T&L) through the use of digital media with traditional online methods as the main mechanism of knowledge delivery. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the challenges of teachers and government initiatives in the implementation of T&L. The design of this study uses qualitative method by analyzing documents through data sources of previous studies, the records of learning development blended e-learning groups under MOE, telegrams, websites, quotes and news from Malaysia and abroad. The main challenge used is related to internet access for those living in rural areas. Other challenges are also found in underprivileged families and it is difficult to provide data facilities and gadgets to children for T&L virtually. MOE provides initiative for students who do not have internet access to browse Google Classroom (GC), they can opt to use WhatsApp. MOE and Uniceff also provide teaching materials that use Google Slides for students with hearing problems and presentations that can be made with subtitles. In addition, the government also uses GC through the establishment of e-learning email accounts. This study has implications for teachers to strengthen blended teaching through digital technology creatively and innovative with live courses and training. Parents and teachers need to make a paradigm shift for the latest technological knowledge for this problem. Hence, MOE needs to formulate or improve the education curriculum in accordance with this blended learning.

Art has a power different from all other human actions; it can produce a variety of human emotions like nothing else. The main purpose of this chapter is to study the relation between media arts and emotions. Virtual environments are increasingly being used by artists; the use of immersive environments allows the media art artist to go further than express himself, allows that through contemplation and interaction the participant also becomes part of the artistic artefact. Immersive environments can induce emotional changes capable of generating states of empathy. Considering an immersive environment as a socio-technical system, where human and non-human elements interact, establishing strong relationships, the authors used actor-network theory as an approach to design an immersive artifact of digital media art. The use of neurofeedback mechanisms during the participant's exposure to immersive environments opens doors to new types of interaction, allowing to explore emotional states to generate empathy.

<p><em>Bina Husada College of Health is a private university in Palembang. The media used for lectures or teaching and learning still use modules or books (print media), and when in the classroom media are used projectors, blackboards. The problem that arises from this is that students will miss the material if students are unable to attend, when using a print module students must study in certain places to repeat the material even students are lazy to bring printed books. The solution that can be used to overcome these problems is to develop media that are used for teaching and learning process, namely digital media (digital modules). Digital modules are modules that are presented in electronic format. This research develops information technology in the form of responsive web-based digital modules to improve student learning at STIK Bina Husada Palembang. The purpose of this development is expected to help students who miss the material, making it easier for students in the learning process, because digital modules can be accessed and studied wherever the place is online using a smartphone. The digital module is a full digital module from the first meeting material to the final meeting. The application development method used is a linear sequential model with several stages, namely analysis, design, coding, testing, and support, while the data collection techniques used are observation, interview and documentation.
