Mobile devices, primarily cell phones, smartphones, and tablet PCs, have gradually been introduced into the university campus and online education over the past few decades. Does the use of mobile devices in distance learning motivate students and affect the learning process? These are important questions that were raised more than a decade ago, but they are still unanswered. This research aims to answer these vital questions. A total of 323 valid and unduplicated responses from online students at a Midwestern university in the U.S. were used to examine the structural model, using SmartPLS v. 3.3.2. This study shows that the use of mobile devices positively affects the students' intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to learn, which in turn positively affects the cognitive learning process variables (student-student dialogue, student-instructor dialogue, and metacognitive self-regulated learning processes). Furthermore, the learning process variables positively affect the perceived learning outcomes.

In context of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the range of experiments offered by the Schülerlabor NanoBioLab at Saarland University was expanded to include an experiment on the topic of water analysis, which provided the basis of the intervention. In addition to the analogue experiment instruction, there is a digital version which is presented as a Multitouch Experiment Instruction (MEI). MEIs are digitally enriched, interactive experiment instructions that accompany the cognitive learning process of pupils and promote competencies in the digital world (Seibert et al., 2020). In this study, we analysed whether the MEI could support self-regulated learning in an indirect support approach by considering different hierarchical levels of self-regulation in the design of the materials. The results show a significant acquisition of self-regulatory competences of learners in grades ten and eleven by using the MEI compared to the analogue version.

Can technology make education more attainable for those on the lower economic levels? If so, this might raise the standard of living for everyone, not just the poor, because their increased income would enable them to consume more goods and services and share more of the tax load. Can technology make education more available to those who cannot conveniently take classes at a fixed time and place? Can it meet the needs of busy professionals for frequent upgrading of their skills? Is teaching online and at a distance as effective as classroom teaching? Can all students learn through this medium, and if not what type of student can most benefit? Will it meet the needs of the MTV generation, who have become accustomed to acquiring most of their knowledge from a television set? What are the most promising technologies that will improve the effectiveness of distance learning? We will explore these topics in this chapter, commencing with some thoughts about the impact of technology in the learning process.

Research into the design, delivery, support, and administration of Online Distance Learning (ODL) programmes in higher education is developing but still nascent with theories and discourses from many areas of traditional education being examined and developed to address the particular affordances of online education. Whilst debate continues about the procurement of and best application of educational technologies and systems, one aspect of the debate seems clear, that the technology and content alone is not “e-learning.” Directing someone to an online repository does not mean learning will necessarily take place. Whilst the technology and the content are essential, both are important only insofar as the affordances they provide for learning to take place. Using empirical evidence, this chapter argues that the actions of the tutor are therefore pivotal in an educational environment where the learning process is directed at more than simply accessing information.

Chapter 11 serves as another expository to readers. In this chapter, readers are enlightened on the digital and virtual age as they relate to the educational trend and online education. In addition, the chapter provides some insights to social media as they relate to education at higher educational institutions and how connecting to the world in terms of education and doing business is at the fingertips with the aid of mobile computing and social media. While social media and mobile devices create an ease of reaching information and networking, their careless usage and lack of monitoring in the classroom exacerbate and defeat their intended good purpose of enhancing the learning process, failing to render the desired results.

Purpose of the study. Studying the regional experience of using online educational platforms during the period of distance learning for schoolchildren and identifying the features of new realities on the formation of human capital.Materials and methods. Assessment of the organization of the distance learning process in the municipalities of the Republic of Karelia, Petrozavodsk and Kostomuksha urban district during the first and second waves of transition to distance learning for schoolchildren. A survey was conducted at the end of each period among teachers, children and parents on the organization and implementation of the learning process.Results. A study of the results of an online survey of teachers in the Republic of Karelia revealed a number of features and difficulties in the introduction of distance learning technologies for schoolchildren in the new realities of an isolated educational process: the level of proficiency in distance learning technologies at the beginning of the Covid-2019 pandemic among teachers in Karelia was quite high - 68.3%, 72.8% of them had the experience of independent study of forms and technologies of distance learning, 27.9% of the interviewed teachers completed advanced training courses. Of the large number of educational platforms operating within the framework of providing online access to teaching and testing resources, teachers are most often used in their work: Uchi.ru, Yaklass.ru, Google class, Russian electronic school. Only 4.5% of the respondents admit that they did not teach online lessons, including due to the lack of Internet in their settlement.Based on the results of the questionnaire survey among parents, new risks in the development of the education system emerged, and the identified trends make us think about what can be changed and done now so that the education of children during distance learning would be a joy for children, parents and teachers.Conclusions. Evaluating the experience of using online education in Russian schools during the massive transition to distance learning, one can note both objective difficulties and problems in organizing the educational process in distance mode, and positive effects that involuntarily manifested themselves in the development of specific narrow skills of digital literacy among the population, acquaintance with new programs and digital tools, mentoring among the participants in relations, exchange of effective practices and experience.Nevertheless, almost all studies note that general education schools and teachers, in general, who had practically no experience of online learning before the massive transition to distance learning, were able to quickly navigate the new situation and master new forms of communication with students. At the same time, a positive synergistic effect was the formation of the skill of productive communication between children and adults, interaction and mutual assistance in the process of mastering ICT technologies.

Lab time dedicated to programming practice in most schools is typically not sufficient for students to succeed as professional programmers. In this paper, we introduce an interactive tool for teaching computer programming. The tool can be used outside the classroom as it is web-based, can be easily integrated with any management learning environment such as BlackBoard, and provides better opportunities for distance learning and online education programs. The tool engages students as active learners and considers student learning styles to effectively improve the learning process. Our experimental study shows that using our tool significantly increased the achievement percentage of our class learning outcomes.

Due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus, all countries began to introduce quarantine measures, which led to the closure of all higher education institution indefinitely. They were forced to switch to a distance learning process in a short time. The readiness for this process was different, purely technical problems arose - the lack of the Internet, computers, educational materials on the network. And most importantly, the teachers are not ready for distance learning. The IT industry was the first to respond to the needs of teachers and students in physical culture and sports: the power of channels was increased, a large number of services and tools for teaching appeared. For video conferencing, the ZOOM tool turned out to be very popular, a large number of blogs with training recommendations were published on social networks, distance courses were held on the development of training resources and the organization of training. After the weakening of quarantine in the world, it became clear that humanity has entered a new stage of development, where distance learning will play a big role. Therefore, it is important to analyze the results of the distance learning process and determine the priority ways of developing online education in training future managers of physical culture and sports. The article is devoted to the problems of using distance work in the training of future managers of physical culture and sports.
