Recently, the market for composite materials is dominated by small and medium series production and prototyping [1]. And the VaRTM (Vacuum assisted Resin Transfer Moldings) process is thought to be low cost composite fabrication technique [2]. The preforms in VaRTM are placed on one–side mold and they are sealed by a flexible vacuum bag [3]. The resin is infused into dry fabric formed on a mold near product shape under vacuum pressure and cured in an oven. In general, part defects often arise during the mold filling stage of the process, where a resin is drawn into performs through the use of vacuum. Uniform fill of resin and complete fiber saturation are required for fabricating high quality products [5]. So the resin flow control is extremely required. To solve these problems and short time fabrication, this article investigates the new molding process of C-FRP plate with using the combination of induction heating for quick heating and vacuuming method. To control of the volume fraction easily and to achieve homogeneous impregnation, thermoplastic resin sheet was chosen instead of liquid type. And the C-FRP in a size of 120mm*120mm and the thickness is 6.6mm was able to fabricate by this method.

Pultrusion, sometimes referred to as continuous resin transfer molding process, is a continuous, cost-effective method for manufacturing composite materials with constant cross sections (such as rod stock, beams, channels, and tubing). The objective of this study is to improve the fiber reinforcement wetout and thus the quality of the pultruded part in the injection pultrusion process. The complete wetout of the dry reinforcement by the liquid resin depends on various design and process parameters. The process parameters modeled in this study are fiber pull speed, fiber volume fraction, and viscosity of the resin. In the present work, a three-dimensional finite volume technique is employed to simulate the liquid resin flow through the fiber reinforcement in the injection pultrusion process. The numerical model simulates the flow of polyester resin through the glass rovings and predicts the impact of the process parameters on wetout, resin pressure field, and resin velocity field. The location of the liquid resin flow front has been predicted for an injection slot as well as for five discrete injection ports.

This article was under review for ICELTICS 2018 -- In the medical world there is still service dissatisfaction caused by lack of blood type testing facility. If the number of tested blood arise, a lot of problems will occur so that electronic devices are needed to determine the blood type accurately and in short time. In this research we implemented an Artificial Neural Network on Xilinx Spartan 3S1000 Field Programable Gate Array using XSA-3S Board to identify the blood type. This research uses blood sample image as system input. VHSIC Hardware Discription Language is the language to describe the algorithm. The algorithm used is feed-forward propagation of backpropagation neural network. There are 3 layers used in design, they are input, hidden1, and output. At hidden1layer has two neurons. In this study the accuracy of detection obtained are 92%, 92%, 92%, 90% and 86% for 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 80x80, and 96x96 pixel blood image resolution, respectively.

Abstract Compared with space parts, consumer parts are highly functional, low cost, compact and lightweight. Therefore, their increased usage in space applications is expected. Prior testing and evaluation on space applicability are necessary because consumer parts do not have quality guarantees for space application [1]. However, in the conventional reliability evaluation method, the test takes a long time, and the problem is that the robustness of the target sample can’t be evaluated in a short time. In this report, we apply to the latest TSOP PEM (Thin Small Outline Package Plastic Encapsulated Microcircuit) an evaluation method that combines preconditioning and HALT (Highly Accelerated Limit Test), which is a test method that causes failures in a short time under very severe environmental conditions. We show that this method can evaluate the robustness of TSOP PEMs including solder connections in a short time. In addition, the validity of this evaluation method for TSOP PEM is shown by comparing with the evaluation results of thermal shock test and life test, which are conventional reliability evaluation methods.

Recently, injection molded plastic optical products are widely used in many fields, because injection molding process has advantages of low cost and high productivity. However, there remains residual birefringence and residual stresses originated from flow history and differential cooling. The present study focused on developing a technique to measure the birefringence in transparent injection-molded optical plastic parts using two methods as follows: (i) the two colored laser method, (ii) the R-G-B separation method of white light. The main idea of both methods came from the fact that more information can be obtained from the distribution of retardation caused by different wavelengths. The comparison between two methods is demonstrated for the same sample of which retardation is up to 850 nm.

The high cost of development and raw materials have been obstacles to the widespread use of titanium alloys. In the present study, the high-throughput experimental method of diffusion couple combined with CALPHAD calculation was used to design and prepare the low-cost and high-strength Ti-Al-Cr system titanium alloy. The results showed that ultra-fine α phase was obtained in Ti-6Al-10.9Cr alloy designed through the pseudo-spinodal mechanism, and it has a high yield strength of 1437 ± 7 MPa. Furthermore, application of the 3D strength model of Ti-6Al-xCr alloy showed that the strength of the alloy depended on the volume fraction and thickness of the α phase. The large number of α/β interfaces produced by ultra-fine α phase greatly improved the strength of the alloy but limited its ductility. Thus, we have demonstrated that the pseudo-spinodal mechanism combined with high-throughput diffusion couple technology and CALPHAD was an efficient method to design low-cost and high-strength titanium alloys.

AbstractAn online and feasible clamping force measurement method is important in the injection molding process and equipment. Based on the sono-elasticity theory, anin situclamping force measurement method using ultrasonic technology is proposed in this paper. A mathematical model is established to describe the relationship between the ultrasonic propagation time, mold thickness, and clamping force. A series of experiments are performed to verify the proposed method. Experimental findings show that the measurement results of the proposed method agree well with those of the magnetic enclosed-type clamping force tester method, with difference squares less than 2 (MPa)2and errors bars less than 0.7 MPa. The ultrasonic method can be applied in molds of different thickness, injection molding machines of different clamping scales, and large-scale injection cycles. The proposed method offers advantages of being highly accurate, highly stable, simple, feasible, non-destructive, and low-cost, providing significant application prospects in the injection molding industry.

The design on joining of metal and ceramics in composite pipes fabricated by the SHS metallurgical process is carried on with adding (TiO2 +Al+C+Ni) subsystem in(CrO3+Al) system, and the composite pipes with three-layer structure of steel substrate, intermediate alloy and lined ceramics are fabricated with low cost and high performance. Combustion determination and mechanical test indicate that adding suitable amount of Ni powder in combustion system rather than (NiO+Al) subsystem can cause combustion behavior of a whole system and volume fraction of the carbides to be controlled easily, and is beneficial to improve joining of the intermediate alloy and steel substrate, causing compression strength and compression shear strength of the composite pipes to be increased greatly.

The object of this paper is to develop a high antireflection silicon solar cell. A novel two-stage metal-assisted etching (MAE) method is proposed for the fabrication of an antireflective layer of a micronanohybrid structure array. The processing time for the etching on an N-type high-resistance (NH) silicon wafer can be controlled to around 5 min. The resulting micronanohybrid structure array can achieve an average reflectivity of 1.21% for a light spectrum of 200–1000 nm. A P-N junction on the fabricated micronanohybrid structure array is formed using a low-cost liquid diffusion source. A high antireflection silicon solar cell with an average efficiency of 13.1% can be achieved. Compared with a conventional pyramid structure solar cell, the shorted circuit current of the proposed solar cell is increased by 73%. The major advantage of the two-stage MAE process is that a high antireflective silicon substrate can be fabricated cost-effectively in a relatively short time. The proposed method is feasible for the mass production of low-cost solar cells.

We present in this paper, the coupling of heat transfer to the crystallization of composite in a closed mold. The composite is based on thermoplastic resin (low viscosity PA 66) with glass fiber (50% volume fraction). In order to realize this coupling, an accurate characterizationof thermo physical properties in process conditions, especially in the molten and solid state is needed. In addition, theidentification of the parameters of crystallization kinetics is required. Therefore, we present the methods that were used to study the thermo physical properties as the thermal conductivity, heat capacity and the specific volume. Moreover, the kinetic of crystallization was estimated over a large temperature range by using Flash DSC and classical DSC. In order to validate the measurements, the whole process was modeled by finite elements. The model includes the resolution of the strong coupling between the heat transfer and crystallization. Finally, the experimental and numerical results were compared.
