Purpose of the study: The purpose of the study was to explore the views of a sample of employees, industry experts, academics, and professionals to determine whether employee share options (ESO) are an effective talent management tool in the South African context. Talent management refers to the attraction, motivation, and retention of employees, as well as fostering their loyalty to the company. Problem investigated: This study sought to explore and provide empirical evidence as to whether or not ESO are an effective talent management strategy and remuneration tool. Design and methodology: A quantitative research design was used for this study. A survey was constructed by the researchers, using the main themes identified in the literature. A purposive sampling methodology was then employed, using the key informant technique. A total of 4 300 surveys were electronically distributed, and 256 completed surveys were received. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Findings: This study suggests that while ESO are seen as an important component of a total reward solution, they are not the primary drivers of the attraction, retention, and motivation of talent. Respondents indicated that the quality of the work environment and the presence of developmental opportunities are far more significant considerations. Furthermore, the majority of respondents (41%) indicated that they would prefer the allocation of share options to correspond with individual performance. Value of the research: The study suggests that employee reward preferences have evolved over time. Whilst ESO may have been considered a pivotal component of talent management in the late 1990s, today they are only a component of an expected total reward solution. The study demonstrates the importance of consistently reviewing the employee value proposition to ascertain the changing preferences of employees in order to accordingly adapt and maximise talent management. The study can be used as guidance in the design and implementation of share schemes. Conclusion: This study suggests that while ESO are perceived as an important component of a total reward solution, these are not the primary drivers of the attraction, retention, and motivation of talent. Respondents indicated that the quality of the work environment and the availability of developmental opportunities are far more significant considerations. The findings suggest that employee reward preferences have evolved over time. Today's employee has a desire to have reward linked to individual performance, which implies that employers will have to revisit their reward solutions as part of their total value proposition.

Local government and government agencies therein have an important role in carrying out government functions and regional development. One of the agencies within the Regional Government is the Regional Secretariat of the South Kalimantan Province. Every government agency is required to be able to optimize the performance of its employees, as well as the factors that influence it, namely work motivation, work environment and quality of communication. The research objective was to determine 1) the effect of work motivation on employee performance at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province. 2) the effect of the Work Environment on the performance of employees at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province. 3) the effect of the Quality of Communication on the performance of employees at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province. 4) the effect of work motivation, work environment and quality of communication on employee performance at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province. This research method uses a quantitative approach and is carried out on employees at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province. The population of 342 civil servants at the Provincial Regional Secretariat who were taken as samples for research was 184 people with civil servant status at the Provincial Regional Secretariat. The research instrument used a questionnaire. While the data processing techniques used are validity test, reliability test, classical assumption test and multiple regression analysis. The statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) 20 for Windows is used to facilitate data processing. The results of this study indicate that (1) There is a partial influence of Work Motivation on the performance of employees at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province (2) There is a partial influence of the Work Environment on the performance of employees at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province (3) There is a partial influence of the Quality of Communication on the performance of employees at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province. (4) Work motivation, work environment and quality of communication have a simultaneous effect on employee performance at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province by 59.4%. The results of this study serve as suggestions and input for leaders at the Regional Secretariat of South Kalimantan Province, to take policies and strategic steps to further increase employee motivation, create a good work environment, and build better communication quality in order to realize better employee performance in the future. Introduction The safety and quality of patient care are basic guidelines in finding new and improved solutions in nursing. Important and influential factors shape the nurses’ work environment in hospitals. Purpose With the study, we intended to investigate whether the perception of nurses’ work environment is related to the safety culture and the quality of patient care and whether it differs according to nurses’ level of education. Methods of work The study with a quantitative research method was conducted at the six clinical departments of the University Medical Centre, Ljubljana in 2019. We used a survey questionnaire from the European survey Nurse forecasting in Europe (RN4CAST). Results 270 nurses were included in the study. The response rate was 54%. The study confirmed that there is a correlation between the assessment of the nurses’ work environment and the general assessment of patient safety (r = 0.36; p <0.001), the general assessment of the quality of nursing care (r = 0.32; p <0.001), the confidence in patient self-care at discharge (r = 0.29; p <0.001) and the quality of patient care in the previous year (r = 0.27; p = 0.001). The results showed frequent verbal abuse of nurses, in 44.9% by patients and their relatives and in 35.4% by staff. Graduate nurses rated the work environment more negatively than healthcare technicians (p = 0.003). Discussion and conclusion We confirmed the correlation between the assessment of nurses’ work environment and patient safety and the quality of health care, and that employees’ education influences the assessment and perception of the work environment.

Household landfills can be important sources of air quality contamination if they do not comply with technological sorting and storage procedures. Also, workers' exposure to environmental hazards endangers their health over time. A significant amount of household waste is stored in cells, monthly, after a sorting process that leaves a considerable ecological footprint. In this study we analysed air quality at the boundary of a compliant household landfill, as well as the quality of work environment of landfill’s workers. To do this, we performed measurements on two levels (air quality and work environment) over three months, following different phases of waste disposal and different activities involving workers serving the facilities. From an applied perspective, results obtained from research activities provide clear answers to questions related to ways in which environmental components are affected by waste storage activities, and workers are exposed to professional noxious. Results show that the landfill deteriorates environment quality, over time, as well as health of workers. Topic relevance is in connection with its potential future contribution to development of knowledge in the approached field, to be able to quantify progress, once integrated systems for modern ecological collection and storage have legislative regulations.

Abstract. Borderline Intellectual Functioning (BIF) refers to a global IQ ranging from 71 to 84, and it represents a condition of clinical attention for its association with other disorders and its influence on the outcomes of treatments and, in general, quality of life and adaptation. Furthermore, its definition has changed over time causing a relevant clinical impact. For this reason, a systematic review of the literature on this topic can promote an understanding of what has been studied, and can differentiate what is currently attributable to BIF from that which cannot be associated with this kind of intellectual functioning. Using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) criteria, we have conducted a review of the literature about BIF. The results suggest that this condition is still associated with mental retardation, and only a few studies have focused specifically on this condition.

Many mothers who give birth to Sectio Caesarea (SC) do not Initiate Early Breastfeeding (IMD), which fails exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to determine the effect of IMD management in postpartum SC mothers on nutritional status, speed of milk production, and quality of breast milk protein. Method: quantitative research with quasi approach experiment. The research design used was a pre-post-test control non-equivalent control group. A sampling of this study used the Consecutive method sampling with a sample of 20 mothers who gave birth by cesarean section (SC). Hypothesis testing uses the independent t-test and the Mann-Whitney test. The study results showed an influence on the management of IMD in postpartum SC mothers on the speed of ASI production (p-value=0.004) and nutritional status (p-value=0.028). There was no effect of IMD management on postpartum SC mothers on the quality of breast milk protein (p-value = 0.543). This study recommends that the hospital implement an IMD promotion program before the abdominal wall is closed as a form of intervention to increase milk production and maternal nutritional status

OBJECTIVEThe authors’ previously published work validated the Chiari Health Index for Pediatrics (CHIP), a new instrument for measuring health-related quality of life (HRQOL) for pediatric Chiari malformation type I (CM-I) patients. In this study, the authors further evaluated the CHIP to assess HRQOL changes over time and correlate changes in HRQOL to changes in symptomatology and radiological factors in CM-I patients who undergo surgical intervention. Strong HRQOL evaluation instruments are currently lacking for pediatric CM-I patients, creating the need for a standardized HRQOL instrument for this patient population. This study serves as the first analysis of the CHIP instrument’s effectiveness in measuring short-term HRQOL changes in pediatric CM-I patients and can be a useful tool in future CM-I HRQOL studies.METHODSThe authors evaluated prospectively collected CHIP scores and clinical factors of surgical intervention in patients younger than 18 years. To be included, patients completed a baseline CHIP captured during the preoperative visit, and at least 1 follow-up CHIP administered postoperatively. CHIP has 2 domains (physical and psychosocial) comprising 4 components, the 3 physical components of pain frequency, pain severity, and nonpain symptoms, and a single psychosocial component. Each CHIP category is scored on a scale, with 0 indicating absent and 1 indicating present, with higher scores indicating better HRQOL. Wilcoxon paired tests, Spearman correlations, and linear regression models were used to evaluate and correlate HRQOL, symptomatology, and radiographic factors.RESULTSSixty-three patients made up the analysis cohort (92% Caucasian, 52% female, mean age 11.8 years, average follow-up time 15.4 months). Dural augmentation was performed in 92% of patients. Of the 63 patients, 48 reported preoperative symptoms and 42 had a preoperative syrinx. From baseline, overall CHIP scores significantly improved over time (from 0.71 to 0.78, p < 0.001). Significant improvement in CHIP scores was seen in patients presenting at baseline with neck/back pain (p = 0.015) and headaches (p < 0.001) and in patients with extremity numbness trending at p = 0.064. Patients with syringomyelia were found to have improvement in CHIP scores over time (0.75 to 0.82, p < 0.001), as well as significant improvement in all 4 components. Additionally, improved CHIP scores were found to be significantly associated with age in patients with cervical (p = 0.009) or thoracic (p = 0.011) syrinxes.CONCLUSIONSThe study data show that the CHIP is an effective instrument for measuring HRQOL over time. Additionally, the CHIP was found to be significantly correlated to changes in symptomatology, a finding indicating that this instrument is a clinically valuable tool for the management of CM-I.

Audit delay and timeliness are important factors that influence the quality of accounting information in term of relevance. This study provides empirical evidence to answer the question of how bankruptcy possibility impacts on audit delay and timeliness.  This research studies manufacturing firms listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) in the period of 2012-2016. Data are taken from official website of IDX. This study is a quantitative research that seek to find out relationship between independent variable and dependent variable. External secondary data used are annual reports accessed from IDX website. Measurement used is Z-Score Altman model prediction, while simple linear regression is employed as technical analysis. This study finds that bankruptcy possibility which is measured by ZScore is negatively influence audit delay and timeliness. Any decrease of Z-Score shows the possibility of a company experience bankruptcy and therefore causes audit delay and timeliness.

Background: We present here the synthesis of 1,3-thiazolidin-4-one (1) and its functionalised analogues, such as the classical isosteres, glitazone (1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione) (2), rhodanine (2-thioxo-1,3- thiazolidin-4-one) (3) and pseudothiohydantoin (2-imino-1,3-thiazolidin-4-one) (4) started in the midnineteenth century to the present day (1865-2018). Objective: The review focuses on the differences in the representation of the molecular structures discussed here over time since the first discussions about the structural theory by Kekulé, Couper and Butlerov. Moreover, advanced synthesis methodologies have been developed for obtaining these functional group, including green chemistry. We discuss about its structure and stability and we show the great biological potential. Conclusion: The 1,3-thiazolidin-4-one nucleus and functionalised analogues such as glitazones (1,3- thiazolidine-2,4-diones), rhodanines (2-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones) and pseudothiohydantoins (2-imino-1,3- thiazolidine-2-4-ones) have great pharmacological importance, and they are already found in commercial pharmaceuticals. Studies indicate a promising future in the area of medicinal chemistry with potential activities against different diseases. The synthesis of these nuclei started in the mid-nineteenth century (1865), with the first discussions about the structural theory by Kekulé, Couper and Butlerov. The present study has demonstrated the differences in the representations of the molecular structures discussed here over time. Since then, various synthetic methodologies have been developed for obtaining these nuclei, and several studies on their structural and biological properties have been performed. Different studies with regards to the green synthesis of these compounds were also presented here. This is the result of the process of environmental awareness. Additionally, the planet Earth is already showing clear signs of depletion, which is currently decreasing the quality of life.

Background: The objective of this article is to analyse if there are significant relationships between the most valuable companies operating in Spain regarding professional performance, according to nationality and location within their Autonomous Communities or any superior aggrupation. To do that, a sample of 100 companies has been selected. Methods: The methodology followed is based on the selection of the 100 highestvalued companies from the point of view of Human Resources’ policy for the period 2013-2016 and through the measurement of six factors: Talent Management, Retribution, Work environment, CSR, Training and Employees’ perception, and classified by nationality and location. The study was based on 12 hypotheses, using the Unifactorial Variance’s Analysis, Pearson correlations and regressions. One limitation could be the fact that this study refers to a particular period, focusing on Spain and the variables mentioned, based on questionnaires. The added value of this work lies on the newness as it has a quantitative character, and on the fact that most of the hypotheses do not comply. Results and Conclusion: This allows to deny certain beliefs that affirm that European and American companies operating in Spain are more attractive than the Spanish or the Mediterranean ones.
