Karaoke is the act of singing to prerecorded music. Put differently, karaoke is an exhibition of some sort of scripted simulation (Adams, 1996). The literature on karaoke performance is extensive across the globe. In Africa, however, this literature is non-existent. This is so in spite of the rampancy of the category in Rwanda‘s provinces where a karaoke fever brews, a near-absent nightlife notwithstanding. Having witnessed the popularity of karaoke in the country firsthand, and towards addressing the curious gap in the extant literature, Isought audiences with a selection of leading karaoke performers in contemporary Rwanda. Jane Uwimana is a blogger, a radio presenter and the acclaimed queen of Rwandan karaoke. This paper presents excerpts from a semi-structured interview with Ms. Uwimana held at her residence in Kigali. The interview session which was recorded using a tape recorder lasted about one hundred minutes. This was subsequently transcribed for purposes of presentation.

Suitability of determining the approach, methods, techniques and strategies that are being applied in teaching and learning session is closely related to curriculum implementer. Academic lecturers not only determine the design and development of elements contained in the subjects but also they act as the assessor and examiner of the learning outcome. The implementation of active learning is one of the elements in 21st Century Learning concept. This research used qualitative methodology with interviews and observation among matriculation students.  The data of semi-structured interview were analysed in verbatim while the observation is being done using checklist form. Generally, the finding of this study shows that active learning activities are suitable to be applied especially in etiquette practical at the dining table, event organization, interview session and public speaking. The learning outcome of these activities was also assessed to develop generic skills from students’ and lecturers’ perspective.

Human interaction involves a process of sharing experiences, telling stories, and retelling stories in a form of narration. While telling story, the narration is structured in a way to make sense to the audiences. This study examined the narrative structures in Kelantanese dialect used by young female native speakers. The participants were two (2) female Kelantanese students, aged 25 and 27 years old, who have completed their undergraduate studies in local universities. Audio recording and semi-structured interview were two types of instruments used for the data collection. Interview session of 1012 words was analyzed using a combination of the theory of Malay sentence classifications and the theory of narrative structure. The findings of this study reveal that the narration in Kelantanese dialect has a systematic structure which consists of title and elaboration. The title consists of the abstract and orientation, while elaboration includes the four stages of narrative structure which are complication, evaluation, resolution and coda. The findings show that the story is unfolded in a structural manner-which means it has the idea and the elaboration of the idea (the story).

This study is a first step in evaluating the value of a structured interview in the selection of students for a six-year joint bachelor's-medical degree program. Specifically, the structured interview results were related to the admissions decision. The predictive utility of the interview will be explored in subsequent studies. 73 candidates were interviewed for 40 openings in the first year of the program and 132 candidates were interviewed for 36 openings in the third year of the program. Each candidate was interviewed both by a physician and by a non-physician. Each interviewer rated each interviewee on several traits plus making an over-all recommended admissions decision. Interviewers responded mainly in terms of over-all global impressions of candidates. Correlations between physician and non-physician ratings of the same candidates were low. The influence on admissions decisions of interviewer recommendations (by both physicians and non-physicians) was also low. There was some suggestion that physician ratings had more influence on decisions about candidates for the first year while non-physician ratings had more influence for candidates for the third year.

The present work aims to implement and test a ‘healthy checkout’ in a real retailing environment in order to explore the effectiveness of this kind of intervention in terms of helping customers making healthy choices on impulse, contrary to the claim of the extant literature. By developing this research, we want to enrich the extant literature by analyzing the nature of the behaviour in front of the checkout and the effect of in-store stimuli (specifically, assortment and communication) on that nature. For the purpose of the present work, all candies and chocolate at the checkout were replaced by a selection of healthy products. The assortment included a mix of fresh fruit, dried fruit, dried fruit bars, nuts and smoothies. A structured questionnaire was submitted at the end of the shopping trip to the sample considered in different stores in the north of Italy. Participants were asked to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention (assortment and communication) and the effect of these levers on the nature of the behaviour was assessed. Our findings show that by placing healthy snacks at the checkout and by communicating them at a category level in an easy processable way it is possible to trigger healthy choices on impulse.

The increasing reported incidents of knife crime in cities and the release on parole of “rehabilitated” violent criminals are creating an unsafe urban environment. Such occurrences suggest that measures taken to address psychopathic-oriented behaviour may have been ineffective because the individual’s degree of “moral deficit” is not fully accounted for in the application of specific therapies. This study developed a theoretical model of “moral deficit” that is aligned with the appropriateness of therapy, ranging from the extreme “classical approach” of total confinement justified by a belief in the incurability of psychopaths to the modern therapy that aims to reintegrate the psychopath with society using “moralizing therapy”. Analysis of secondary data from extant literature was used to develop the theoretical model of “moral deficit”. Secondary data analysis suggests that the extent of psychopathic “moral deficit” may be an important factor in the selection of appropriate therapeutic measures for psychopathy treatment and the rehabilitation of psychopaths as law-abiding members of society. We conclude that a specific type of psychopathic moral deficit may have an important bearing on the appropriateness of treatment. It is recommended that the treatment of psychopathy makes greater provision for the extent and type of psychopathic “moral deficit” in assessing the most appropriate applications for the treatment of psychopathy and promoting the safety of urban environments.

Purpose Scholars for long have been interested in finding effective ways to assess organizational effectiveness. However, lack of consensus on its definition, and consequently on measure parameters has dogged researchers, almost to the point that some academics have declared organizational effectiveness a subject that cannot be researched. The purpose of this paper is to present a unified model of organizational effectiveness by recognizing the underlying synergy in the body of research – a framework that could guide future research on organizational effectiveness as a comprehensive, but contextual paradigm. Design/methodology/approach This paper is based on extensive exploratory review and critique of extant literature on organizational effectiveness. Findings The lack of consensus among scholars on the meaning of organizational effectiveness and its measures is primarily the result of compartmentalized perspectives. The authors found that there is an underlying synergy among them. Basis a big picture review and analysis of extant literature, the authors have been able to identify a unifying framework for the apparently disparate and conflicting models of organizational effectiveness. Practical implications This paper can provide guidance to managers on appropriate selection of organizational effectiveness measures, and to scholars on developing a more holistic and pragmatic research approach on the subject. It can potentially lead to development of context-based scales that facilitate meaningful comparative studies. Originality/value This paper presents a unified model and framework for organizational effectiveness by building on the valuable but disparate contributions of previous researchers. The authors believe that this is a novel attempt that simplifies the discourse on organizational effectiveness, and will help to remove some of the negativity around the research subject.

Grape export has a significant growth rate in India. India has a great scope to export grape in large quantity to such a country having high competitiveness and less distance to transport from India to Saudi Arabia United Arab Emirates, and Belgium to earn more profit. Countries like UK, USA, and Netherland gives us maximum price to fresh grape because of high quality standard and high demand.
