In this study, it was aimed to reveal the perceptions of teachers, students, and parents about the concept of “distance education” through metaphor. Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. 34 teachers, 131 students, and 44 parents who participated in the study were asked to make a metaphor sentence for distance education by the online data collection tool. The data obtained were analyzed by content analysis and categories were constituted by classifying the metaphors according to their common characteristics. Metaphors of the participants towards distance education were gathered in the categories of “uselessness”, “education type”, “offering opportunity”, “virtuality”, “individuality”, “irreplaceable”, “obligation”, “usage”, and “school independence”. Participants mostly used metaphors of “face-to-face education”, “school”, “video”, “open education”, and “sun” for distance education. When the sentences of metaphors made were examined, it was determined that the participants had a negative perception towards distance education in general. To change this perception, it is recommended to provide teachers, students, and parents with a quality distance education experience.

Folk/Popular culture comprises a many-sided and complex term, existing in both its traditional (Folk) and contemporary dimension (Popular). Many of its aspects can be traced in Primary Education school books, but in many cultural school displays as well. Student participation in cultural oriented activities encourages enculturation, the awareness of belonging in one or many cultural groups, and, successively, an understanding of one’s cultural identity. This article presents the results of research conducted all over Greece concerning educational programs and activities about folk/popular culture as shown in the websites of Greek public and private Primary Schools and Kindergartens, utilizing online data collection.

The aim of this study is to reveal the experiences of graduate students in the field of Turkish education during the pandemic process. Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. The sample of the research consists of graduate and doctoral students studying at different universities. Easily accessible case sampling was used to determine the study group. The data of the study were collected with the interview guide prepared by the researchers and given the final shape after the expert opinion was taken. The study group was reached by using internet tools (Zoom) and data were collected. The content analysis of data was made. As a result of the research, it was seen that during the pandemic process graduate students experienced advantages such as increased technological opportunities, accessing to online materials easily, time saving and efficient studying opportunities. However, disadvantages such as inefficient lessons, lack of interaction, inability to focus on lessons, data collection problems, and inability to benefit from libraries were also revealed as problems experienced by graduate students. Students expect technological opportunities to continue, but to ensure normalization in some issues that cannot be resolved with these opportunities. They think that face-to-face education is more qualified, communication is better, and research can be done more effectively.

Brand attributes play an important role in tracking customer-based brand equity. Therefore researchers need an effective approach for eliciting attributes. This paper has two aims: to determine which of four different techniques elicit(s) better results; and to test if online data collection is a viable alternative to face-to-face collection. The techniques compared are: Zaltman Metaphor Elicitation Technique (ZMET), Free Elicitation (FE), Repertory Grid (RG) and Projective Elicitation (PE). These approaches are compared on the number and variety of attributes generated, as well as respondent evaluation. FE is the best-performing technique in a face-to-face context, generating the most attributes, evaluated positively by respondents and providing a typical distribution of attribute types. We also provide evidence that online is a viable data collection method for attribute elicitation studies, except ZMET due to respondent drop-out. Online we recommend a combination of FE and PE to obtain a range and variety of responses.

Background Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, causing an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018. Low cancer symptom awareness has been associated with poor cancer survival for all cancers combined. The Cancer Awareness Measure (CAM) is a validated, face-to-face survey used since 2008 to measure the UK public’s awareness of the symptoms and risk factors of cancer as well as the barriers to seeking help. Objective The aim of this study is to explore whether online data collection can produce a representative sample of the UK population, compare awareness of cancer signs and risk factors and the barriers to seeking help between data collected online and face-to-face, and examine the relationships between awareness and demographic variables. Methods Differences in awareness of cancer signs, symptoms, and risk factors among samples were explored while adjusting for demographic differences (age, gender, ethnicity, educational level, marital status, and country of residence) to distinguish the effect of data collection method. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to calculate adjusted odds ratios for recall and recognition of signs and symptoms, risk factors, and barriers to seeking help. Results A total of 4075 participants completed the CAM, 20% (n=819) via face-to-face interviews and 80% online (n=3256; agency A: n=1190; agency B: n=2066). Comparisons of data collected using face-to-face interviews and online surveys revealed minor differences between samples. Both methods provided representative samples of the UK population with slight differences in awareness of signs, symptoms, and risk factors and frequency of help-seeking barriers reported. Conclusions These findings support a move to online data collection for the CAM. The flexibility afforded will enable the CAM to explore a wider range of issues related to the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.

Motherhood, which seems to be a women’s issue in principle, has always been a phenomenon that needs to be regulated through various practices by the rulers, in order for the patriarchy to sustain itself. This affects especially the lives of women who are not married but want to have a kid in many ways. In this research, the women in Turkey who want to but cannot have a kid because they are not married were asked semi-structured questions. The research evaluates why these women want to have a kid, what the psychological and social effects of being unable to have a kid are, how they cope with this situation, and whether they prefer to be a mother in a society where gender equality is ensured and single motherhood by choice is possible. In the research, case study, which is a type of qualitative research design, and homogenous sampling, which is a purposive sampling method, was used. Twenty women who were single and over 30 years old were interviewed face-to-face. The women were asked 16 questions. Then content analysis of the responses was done. The findings reveal that the women who cannot have a child have serious psychological and social problems.

Internet based methods of communication are becoming increasingly important and influencing researchers’ options. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technologies (such as Skype and FaceTime) provide us with the ability to interview research participants using voice and video across the internet via a synchronous (real-time) connection. This paper highlights the advantages of using Skype to conduct qualitative interviews and weighs these advantages against any limitations and issues that using this tool may raise. This paper argues that Skype opens up new possibilities by allowing us to contact participants worldwide in a time efficient and financially affordable manner, thus increasing the variety of our samples. At the same time, the use of Skype affects the areas of rapport, non-verbal cues and ethics by creating limitations but also new opportunities. The observations in this paper stem from two different researches, carried out by the authors, on dance (as a form of trans/cultural heritage) and wayfinding (the experience of getting from A to B in various settings). These studies lent themselves to using Skype for qualitative interviews, because of the need to reach an international, varied and purposeful sample. The researchers’ experiences, combined with feedback from participants in Skype interviews, are used in this paper. The conclusion is that, although VoIP mediated interviews cannot completely replace face to face interaction, they work well as a viable alternative or complimentary data collection tool for qualitative researchers. This paper argues that VoIP based interviews offer new opportunities for researchers and should be embraced with confidence.

Abstract: The research methodology is a subject that has an essential role in completing the study. Even though students have received this course during the college period, many students still feel confused in determining the research method to complete their thesis, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The School from Home learning system prevents students from meeting face to face and talking directly to the lecturer. So, it is important to innovate where students can ask freely about the problems of both quantitative and qualitative research methods. So, there needs innovative learning to solve it. Authors made an innovation called Tanya Egy, based on a website application for Question and Answer (Q&A) about research methodology problems, both quantitative or qualitative. The Tanya Egy application has been synchronized with SPEDOL (Economic Library Service System and Online Data), owned by the Department of Economic Development FE UM. In this application, there are also many lecturers with econometric expertise and lecturers with expertise in the field of qualitative research methods. So this feature is not only for students who are taking research methods but also for students who are preparing a thesis or students who are currently on the verge of confusion in completing their thesis. The result of this activity is that 23 students have used and asked questions online through the Ask Egy feature. As many as 80 percent of students said this feature was beneficial in completing their thesis.
