Emotions are sometimes concealed in barely observable gestures or facial expressions.. Poetry follows a similar path when it hides an abundant load of emotional states behind the scarcity of words which are therefore endowed with a manifold power of expression. The secret to resonating with the message of the poet lies in the readers’ ability to approach poems from the perspective of emotional intelligence in order to become aware of the poet’s emotional states beyond words – states that stirred such a flux of thoughts and words, to find the bridge that links them to the poet in a particular common understanding of life issues, and to become aware of their own emotions, not only those felt while reading the poem, but their own emotional manifestations in similar contexts. The poetry of Rose Ausländer, Selma-Meerbaum Eisinger, Paul Celan, and Dan Pagis takes the readers to realms where suffering is intensely felt and where compassion and empathy take shape so as to change the readers’ perspective upon the world. The English versions of the poems are faithful mediators of these emotional states to readers belonging to various cultural backgrounds and historical contexts, and convey the powerful message that human inner battles transcend all borders and become precious life lessons. Nurses have long working hours with high psychological burdens. In addition, in the emergency department, nurses are required to quickly adapt emotionally. The aim of this study was to describe and relate emotional intelligence (EI) skills of emergency nurses, their body mass index (BMI) and sleep quality. For this purpose, a cross-sectional was carried out in which the perceived emotional intelligence test and the Pittsburgh sleep quality index were applied. Sixty-two emergency nurses (48 women and 14 men) participated. The results indicated that the majority of them present adequate levels of EI, with no differences by gender. Younger nurses showed a better ability to feel, express and understand emotional states than the older ones, while the ability to regulate emotional states occurred in the opposite way. Nurses who have been working for several years showed a better ability to regulate emotions than those with less experience. Those who were overweight grade II and obese type I expressed their feelings better, also the regulation of emotional states decreased as weight increased. Finally, it has been observed that the quality of sleep of emergency nurses is significantly altered, and that this lack of sleep may affect their ability to process emotions.

AbstractCOVID-19 has severely affected the world since December 2020. Because of its sudden onset and highly contagious nature, the world has responded in a “crisis management” manner. With effective vaccines almost available, it is appropriate at this time to have some reflections about COVID-19 in relation to the quality of life issues. In this paper, we highlight twelve issues for reflection, which can help us better prepared for future pandemics. These include: digital divide, health inequality, gender inequality, economic disadvantage, family well-being, impact on holistic well-being, economic development versus saving lives, consumption versus environmental protection, individual rights versus collective rights, international collaboration versus conflict, prevention of negative well-being, and promotion of positive well-being.

Abstract: Through out this essay, divided into two parts, a global assessment of Valente’s poetry is made, taking into account the special link that the creative-word and the thought-word maintained in his work. In the first section, «How far does a word go», the author's reflections on «El lugar del canto» are shown, that space which he felt the need to build, on the ruined home of language from his very first books, in a «Time of Misery» and usurping rhetoric of true poetic saying. In parallel, there is the conquest of a literary tradition in Valente, the result of the approach to the main trends of literature, plastic arts, music, philosophy and contemporary aesthetic reflection. The names of Juan Ramón, Cernuda, Celan, Jabès, María Zambrano, Webern or Tàpies represent some of the main milestones within that itinerary, which has its earliest reflection in the pages of Las palabras de la tribu and Diario anónimo. The second part, «The word submerged», travels through out all his books, regardless of the chronology or the so-called «stages» of Valente, so likely to create an orthodoxy around the author. With the expression «Submerged Word» different records of his poetics are referred to: the need to stay away from the surface that we call current existence, his approach to the creative processes of mysticism, his vision of the ineffable as a substratum that is part of the deposits of language, or the relationships between atonality and fragmentation with an aesthetic of silence. The purpose is to demonstrate that Valente’s submerged word is an asserting word, which never keeps silent or leads to vain nihilism. Poet of the radical immanence and the material memory of the world, it is posible to discern through out his work a kind of «metaphysics of art», in the terms conceived by Nietzsche or Heidegger. Key words: José Ángel Valente; Spanish Contemporary poetry; Juan Ramón Jiménez; Luis Cernuda; traduction by Valente; Paul Celan; the fragmentary poetics; aesthetic of silence.

China and the United States share significant differences in social ideology and cultural backgrounds, resulting in many differences in narrative, humanistic expression, communication and target market positioning of films with the similar theme. This essay takes The Captain and Sully as examples. Through analysis and summary, the writer finds that the differences in social ideology and cultural background have an impact on the narrative tactic, target market, the production, and the circulation strategy of films. For example, at the narrative theme level, The Captain is country-centered, while Sully pays more attention to the inner changes of the characters. In terms of production, The Captain pays more attention to the excitement brought to the audience watching the movie, while Sully pays more attention to the movie story itself. In the choice of target market, the target market of The Captain is positioned in China, while Sully positioned in the world. The distinctive choices of plot and theme of the two films reflect the differences in cultures and ideologies of the two countries. The purpose of this essay is to provide film workers with new creative ideas through analysis, and to lead readers to think.

This article presents research towards the development of a virtual learning environment (VLE) inhabited by intelligent virtual agents (IVAs) and modelling a scenario of inter-cultural interactions. The ultimate aim of this VLE is to allow users to reflect upon and learn about intercultural communication and collaboration. Rather than predefining the interactions among the virtual agents and scripting the possible interactions afforded by this environment, we pursue a bottom-up approach whereby inter-cultural communication emerges from interactions with and among autonomous agents and the user(s). The intelligent virtual agents that are inhabiting this environment are expected to be able to broaden their knowledge about the world and other agents, which may be of different cultural backgrounds, through interactions. This work is part of a collaborative effort within a European research project called eCIRCUS. Specifically, this article focuses on our continuing research concerned with emotional knowledge learning in autobiographic social agents.

The aim of our study was to determine features of social and emotional intelligence in family caregivers of patients with endogenous mental disorders as a basis for communicative resource formation in family where a patient lives. Materials and methods: A total of 273 family caregivers of patients with paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder were involved into this survey under informed consent conditions. Control group included 55 mentally healthy respondents, in whose families there is no mentally sick family member. Emotional intelligence of family caregivers was measured using the psychodiagnostic test “EQ” by N. Hall. To assess level of social intelligence the J. Gilford and M. Sullivan test (in adaptation done by Mikhailova E.S.) was used. Values of p <0.05 were considered significant. Results: The study revealed that family caregivers of patients with schizophrenia and affective disorders demonstrate a decrease in emotional and social intelligence indicators, which creates significant obstacles for effective interpersonal family communication and for the harmonious functioning of a family, in which a mentally sick patient lives, in general. Difficulties of emotional regulation, emotional management, recognition of emotional states of other participants of communication related to the level of emotional and social intelligence of FC are factors, that complicate interpersonal relations in families of patients and reduce possibilities for psychosocial adaptation of all family members. Conclusions: Revealed features should be taken into consideration when creating appropriate psycho-educational and psycho-corrective programs for family caregivers of patients with endogenous mental disorders.
