Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common disease in women around the world. The risk factors associated to BC have been widely discussed in the literature, however, the possible effect of alcohol consumption remains unclear and requires further clarification and in-depth understanding. In this mini-review,  we discusse  numerous prospective studies conducted from 1989 to 2018 to monitor the emergence of BC, and to clarify the association between alcohol consumption and BC risk. Results: Alcohol consumption is positively associated with the risk of BC compared to non-drinkers. The findings showed that this positive association could be influenced by several factors, including age, premenopausal and postmenopausal status, social factors ,duration and intensity of alcohol use and family history. Conclusion: There is a positive effect of alcohol consumption BC risk  at all levels of consumption.

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women in the world. The age-standardised incident rate for breast cancer is of 39 per 100,000, which is twice that of cancer in the second position. In India, also breast cancer is becoming an increasing health problem. The study is aimed to assess the knowledge and awareness of risk factors associated with breast cancer. A questionnaire composed of 15 questions were circulated through an online platform google forms. The results were collected and data were analyzed using SPSS software. The awareness of breast cancer among working women comprising 75% aware and 25% not aware. The awareness about risk factors of breast cancer comprising 80% aware and 20% not aware. The percentage of the risk factor of breast cancer comprising 28% family history of breast cancer, 22% of advanced age, 9% obesity and 41% choose all the above. The overall awareness of all subgroups was fair reporting correct answers. The awareness among working women was moderate and more awareness should be created. This study concludes that awareness and measures have been taken towards risk factors of breast cancer.

Background Breast conservative surgery (BCS) is an adequate treatment for patients with early breast cancer. Local recurrence is associated with diverse factors. Our objective was to evaluate risk factors associated with finding residual tumor in patients with positive margins in BCS. Methods Observational retrospective study, including patients diagnosed with breast cancer undergoing BCS between 2000 and 2016. Clinicopathological and treatment variables were collected. Main outcome was the finding of residual tumor on re-excision. Positive margins were defined as tumor present on ink. Results Three hundred and six patients underwent BCS. Mean age was 57 ± 12.2 years. Positive margins were found in 84 (27.4%) patients, 15 (4.9%) had unknown margin status, and 207 (67.6%) had negative margins. Seventy-eight patients from the positive margin group and 23 patients from the unknown/negative margin group were reintervened. Residual tumor was present in 41% of patients with positive margins and in 45% of patients with negative margins ( P = .192). In univariate analysis, overweight (P = .04) and positive axillary lymph nodes ( P = .02) were associated with residual tumor on re-excision. In multivariate analysis, postmenopausal status was a protective factor (HR .047, P = .30). Mean follow-up was 58.4 months and mean local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) was 56.4 months (.1-203.2), with no difference regarding margin status or residual tumor. Discussion Postmenopausal status was associated with a decreased rate of residual tumor in patients with positive margins. The presence of residual tumor on re-excision was not associated with a lower LRFS. These factors must be considered when positive margins are present in BCS.

Anthracycline-based regimens with or without anti-human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER) 2 agents such as trastuzumab are effective in breast cancer treatment. Nevertheless, heart failure (HF) has become a significant side effect of these regimens. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and factors associated with HF in breast cancer patients treated with anthracyclines with or without trastuzumab. A retrospective cohort study was performed in patients with breast cancer who were treated with anthracyclines with or without trastuzumab between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2018. The primary outcome was the incidence of HF. The secondary outcome was the risk factors associated with HF by using the univariable and multivariable cox-proportional hazard model. A total of 475 breast cancer patients were enrolled with a median follow-up time of 2.88 years (interquartile range (IQR), 1.59–3.93). The incidence of HF was 3.2%, corresponding to an incidence rate of 11.1 per 1000 person-years. The increased risk of HF was seen in patients receiving a combination of anthracycline and trastuzumab therapy, patients treated with radiotherapy or palliative-intent chemotherapy, and baseline left ventricular ejection fraction <65%, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in other risk factors for HF, such as age, cardiovascular comorbidities, and cumulative doxorubicin dose. In conclusion, the incidence of HF was consistently high in patients receiving combination anthracyclines trastuzumab regimens. A reduced baseline left ventricular ejection fraction, radiotherapy, and palliative-intent chemotherapy were associated with an increased risk of HF. Intensive cardiac monitoring in breast cancer patients with an increased risk of HF should be advised to prevent undesired cardiac outcomes.

AbstractCervical insufficiency (CI) is a mainly disease leading to recurrent abortions and preterm birth which may present in about 1% of obstetric populations. Recurrent pregnancy losses caused by CI incur serious economic burdens on society as well as huge psychological burdens to family members. However, many patients even clinicians in some areas of the world still remain confused about this disease. At the same time, the etiology of CI is still uncertain and it is still a controversial disease in diagnosis and treatment. This article summarizes the potential risk factors associated with CI, which could be worthy of attention and helpful for future research. It also reviews the methods for diagnosis and treatment of CI to better understand this noteworthy disease, as well as presents the related consensus and controversies according to the newly updated guidelines, which has practical significance for conducting more in-depth investigations in the future.

Abstract The World Health Organization set a target of a 15% relative reduction in the prevalence of insufficient physical activity (IPA) by 2025 among adolescents and adults globally. In Bangladesh, there are no national estimates of the prevalence of IPA among adolescents. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of and risk factors associated with IPA among adolescent girls and boys. Data for 4865 adolescent girls and 4907 adolescent boys, collected as a part of a National Nutrition Surveillance in 2018–19, were analysed for this study. A modified version of the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) was used to collect physical activity data. The World Health Organization recommended cut-off points were used to estimate the prevalence of IPA. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression was performed to identify factors associated with IPA. Prevalences of IPA among adolescent girls and boys were 50.3% and 29.0%, respectively, and the prevalence was significantly higher among early adolescents (10–14 years) than late adolescents (15–19 years) among both boys and girls. The IPA prevalence was highest among adolescents living in non-slum urban areas (girls: 77.7%; boys: 64.1%). For both boys and girls, younger age, non-slum urban residence, higher paternal education and increased television viewing time were significantly associated with IPA. Additionally, residing in slums was significantly associated with IPA only among the boys. Higher maternal education was associated with IPA only among the girls. This study identified several modifiable risk factors associated with IPA among adolescent boys and girls in Bangladesh. These factors should be addressed through comprehensive public health interventions to promote physical activity among adolescent girls and boys.

The article is devoted to breast cancer, a common cancer among women around the world. The level of awareness of applicants and employees of the Kharkov State Academy of Physical Culture regarding risk factors and clinical features of breast cancer, as well as self-examination procedures was analyzed. It has been proven that the formation of a culture of prevention of breast cancer through self-observation and self-examination of young Ukrainian women can save human lives, since raising public awareness and gaining practical knowledge will certainly change the fate of many people.

Globally, 10% of the world population is elderly people and it is expected to increase to 21% in the year 2051. In the year 2002, the number of elderly people in the world was estimated to be 605 million, which is expected to rise to more than 1.2 billion by the year 2025. This crosssectional study was conducted to and out the health-related quality of life and risk factors among elderly population in the selected rural population of Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira District. Data was collected from both the male and female population, aged 60 years and above, during February to June 2018. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect data from 50 respondents by face to face interview with semi-structured questionnaire. In the study, the mean age of elderly was male 63 (±2.95) years, and female 61.8 (±2.04) years. Other socio-demographic factors among elderly were as follows: 20 (40%) of elderly were illiterate, 15 (30%) of elderly were doing business, 21 (42%) were doing farming. 40 (80%) of elderly were married. The study also reported the five most common disease co-morbidities for elderly which included: 71.43% male and 28.57% female had hypertension while 72.22% of male and 27.78% of female patients were already treated, 68.75% male and 31.25% female had diabetes mellitus and 100% of them were treated, 50% of male elderly and 50% of female elderly were suffering bone and joint pain/arthritis and 60% of them were received treatment, hearing impairment found among 100% of male while two-third of patients received treatment, one-third of female and two-third of male elderly suffered from poor vision; however, only one-third of female patients were treated. Abstract Purpose: Dose dense chemotherapy improves survival but also increases toxicity and treatment related cost. Here we report the prevalence of anemia, understand the risk factors of chemotherapy related anemia and determine the cost and time-delay associated with transfusion requirement in Indian non-metastatic breast cancer patients on dose dense preoperative chemotherapy.Methods: In this study, 116 triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients were treated preoperatively with Docetaxel and Cyclophosphamide alternating with Epirubicin and Cisplatin every 2-weekly. Patients were evaluated for anemia pre- and post-chemotherapy. We examined trends in the cell counts, transfusion requirement, time to transfusion as well as risk factors associated with transfusion during treatment, along with delay in treatment due to anemia and the additional cost incurred.Results: One hundred and sixteen women with high-risk non-metastatic TNBC were treated. Median age was 44.5 years. 56.1% had stage III disease. Delivery of 6/8 planned doses was achieved in 98.3% of patients, and all 8 doses in 86% patients. Anemia was detected at baseline in 54(46.5%) patients with mild(10-12g/dl) anemia in 42(36.2%) patients and moderate(8-10g/dl) in 12(10.3%) patients. Forty-four patients (37.9%) required transfusion during chemotherapy with 55(47.4%) patients having grade 1-2 anemia and 40(34.5%) patients having grade 3 anemia. The factors associated with transfusion were low grade of tumor (OR 2.48 (95% CI 1.08 - 5.68), p = 0.025), hemoglobin post 2 cycles of chemotherapy (OR 1.74 (95% CI 1.21- 2.51), p = 0.003), thrombocytopenia grade 3 or 4 (OR 4.35 (95% CI 1.062-17.827), p = 0.034) and drop in hemoglobin after 2 cycles (OR 1.65 (95% CI 1.09-2.48), p = 0.017). Nearly one fourth of the study population had a delay between two cycles of chemotherapy due to anemia. A median additional cost of Rs 7000 (IQR-Rs 7000 – Rs 14000) was incurred on transfusion.Conclusion: Anemia is a common toxicity associated with dose dense chemotherapy during curative breast cancer treatment leading to delay in treatment and increased cost. Low grade tumor, grade 3 or 4 thrombocytopenia and Grade 2 or higher anemia after 2 cycles of chemotherapy are risk factors for blood transfusions during treatment.
