Comparative chemical composition of 24-hour fermented sweet orange fruit (Citrus sinensis) peel meal and maize and effect on performance response of starting pullet chicks

The study evaluated the effect of 24-hour fermentation of sweet orange fruit (Citrus sinensis) peel meal (24SOFPM) on its chemical composition and performance response to graded levels of peel meal in the diets of pullet chicks. Dry matter, crude protein and phosphorus level in 24SOFPM were close to that of maize. While limonene was higher in 24SOPFM, phytate was higher in maize than the 24SOPFM. One hundred and forty-four fourteen dayold Nera black pullet chicks were assigned to four experimental diets F0, F10, F20 and F30. SOPFM substituted maize in F0, F10, F20 and F30 respectively at 0, 10, 20 and 30%. The feeding trial lasted the remaining 6 weeks of the chicks’ phase. The study design was Completely Randomized Design. Daily feed intake was not significantly different (p>0.05). Average body weight gain was significantly different (p<0.05) and was depressed with no definite pattern in the SOPFM based diets. FCR was significantly different (p<0.05). Substitution of maize with SOFPM significantly (p<0.05) reduced feed cost/25kg, feed cost/bird and cost of production while decreasing efficiency of feed utilization for growth. Apparently, SOPFM might be a potential feedstuff which could substitute a proportion of maize in pullet chick’s diet when fermented for 24 hours.

This study aims to determine the effect of fermented sago pulp in rations on performance (weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion) and local sheep's income over feed cost (IOFC). This research was carried out in the community farms of Karang Rejo Village, Stabat District, Langkat Regency. This research started from March to June 2017. The design used was complete randomized design (RAL), with 4 treatment of 5 replications. Each replication consisted of 1 local sheep with an initial weight of 11.05 ± 0.56 kg. The treatment consisted of P1 (50% sago pulp without fermentation + forage), P2 (60% of sago pitch without fermentation + forage), P3 (50% fermented sago pulp + forage), and P4 (60% fermented sago pulp +). The observed variables were performance (body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion) and income over feed cost (IOFC). The results showed that the treatment of fermented sago pulp gave a very real effect (P <0.01) on daily weight gain. The mean of P1 = 33,05 g, P2 = 39,95 g, P3 = 46,57 g, P4 = 54,38g. The consumption of fermented sago pulp treatment has a real effect (P <0,01). With average P1 = 486,38 g, P2 = 548,68 g, P3 = 604,69 g, P4 = 671,11 gr. Against the conversion of fermented sago pulp fermentation treatment gave a real effect (P <0.05). With average P1 = 14.78, P2 = 13.90, P3 = 12.99, P4 = 12,49. IOFC the highest local sheep is Rp. 121.568 on treatment of P4 and IOFC lowest at treatment P1 equal to Rp.73.315. The conclusion of the research shows that the utilization of fermented sago pulp can increase body weight gain, feed consumption, local sheep feed conversion. P4 treatment economically has a better economic level than P1,P2 and P3.

DORA VILLA MANIK, 2018. "Effectiveness of Gambir Solution (UncariagambirRoxb) on the Performances of Broiler Chickens Infected by Escherichia coli".Supervised by MA'RUF TAFSIN and ARMYN HAKIM DAULAY. Gambir has the potential as an antibacterial which is traditionally used as a drug for diarrhea. This study examines the effectiveness of gambir solution on performance which includes feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion and income over feed cost (IOFC) in broiler chickens infected with E. coli. It was held in November - December 2017 at the Laboratory of Biology, Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture University of Sumatera Utara, using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment consisted of P0A = without infection and without treatment, P0B = infection with E. coli and P1, P2, P3, respectively E. coli infection + Gambir solution 2%, 4%, 6% and P4 = E. coli + infection Tetracycline antibiotics. The results showed that the administration of gambir solution at a dose of 2% - 6% was significantly (P<0.05) effective in improving the performances of broiler chickens infected with E.coli and able to compensate for the use of commercial antibiotics in the form of tetracycline. The highest IOFC is in the 4% gambir solution.

Abstract. The trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of dried sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) peel on growth performance in broilers. A total of 400 male broiler chicks (Ross-308) were randomly allocated to treatments varying in supplemental DSOP. The dietary groups consisted of five diets fed for 42 days: control diet without feed additive, diet containing 1.5 % feed additive only in starter phase, diet containing 1.5 % feed additive during whole period (starter + grower), diet containing 3 % feed additive only in starter phase, diet containing 3 % feed additive during whole period. The growth responses achieved by broilers from all groups complied with the standards. However, adding up to 3 % DSOP in diet seems to depress feed intake, body weight gain increasing feed conversion ratio of both starter and growing broilers. Conversely, DSOP in the proportion of 1.5 % of feed seems to promote feed intake and weight gain in the period between the 1–21 days of age, indicating that DSOP can constitute a useful additive in the feeding of broilers. Further research is needed to assess the effects of DSOP to improve its suitability as a feed resource for poultry production.

This study aimed to determine the effect of the percentage of ration during the day and night on the performance of medium type roosters in postal cages. This research was conducted in August- October 2018 in a postal cage, Integrated Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. The experiment was designed in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 treatments, namely giving ration 30% at day and 70% at night ration (R1), 50% at day and 50% at night (R2), and 70% at day and 30% at night (R3). All treatments were repeated six times with each replication consisting of 8 chickens, so that the total experimental chickens were 144 chickens.  The material used in this study was 2 weeks old of Lohman strain chicken. The results showed a significant effect (P<0.05) between the percentage of giving ration at day and night on ration consumption, but no significant effect (P>0.05) on body weight gain, feed conversion, and income over feed cost ( IOFC). The result also showed that giving ration 30% during the day and 70% at night was  the best proportion for feed consumption.   Keywords: Medium type rooster, Postal cage, Night, Ration, Day

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of enriched mesquite piperidine alkaloid (MPA) extract at 31 mg/kg of dry matter (DM) in diets with 16% or 13% of crude protein (CP) compared to a diet with 16% CP without additive (control) and diets with monensin (MON) at 31 mg/kg DM and 16% or 13% CP. The intake, ingestive behaviour, apparent digestibility, body weight gain, microbial protein synthesis and nitrogen balance were evaluated. A total of 30 uncastrated crossbred Santa Inês × Bergamasca lambs were used and allocated in a completely randomized design. No effects of additives on dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), and non-fibre carbohydrate (NFC) intake were observed in diets with 16% and 13% CP compared to the control diet. The total digestible nutrient intake (g/kg BW) for the diet with MPA 13% CP was lower than for the control diet, while the metabolisable energy intake (MJ/kg BW) did not differ between diets. The DM feeding rate (g/min) was reduced for the diet with MON 13% CP compared to the control diet. There was no difference between MON or MPA with CP 16% or 13% and the control diet in the digestibility of DM, OM, NFC, and NDF. MON in the diet with 13% CP reduced the BW gain, which differed from the control diet, while MPA 13% CP did not differ from the control diet. The microbial protein synthesis efficiency was higher for diets with MPA compared to MON 13% CP and the control diet. Dietary nitrogen retention (g/kg metabolic weight) was lower in diets with 13% CP that differed from the diets with 16% CP. The nitrogen retained as a percentage of ingested and digested nitrogen was unchanged with the use of MPA or MON 13% CP due to lower urinary nitrogen excretion. The MPA 13% CP diet does not affect the performance of lambs by increasing the microbial synthesis efficiency in the rumen.

One of the plants that can be used as larvicides is sweet orange (Citrus sinensis). Sweet orange rind containing saponins, tannins, flavonoids, and triterpenoids have a characteristic of aromatic odor and bitter taste which contain 96% essential oils containing limonene, glucoside, hesperidium, and resin that can function as biolarvasides. The Regency of the Middle East South is one of the areas in Indonesia which is known as the center of sweet orange. Soe sweet orange fruit has a distinctive color, aroma, and taste compared to other oranges in Indonesia. The objectives of this study are to discover the effectiveness of the orange rind extract in killing the Aedes aegypti larvae and to identify the minimum concentration of the extract of the sweet, dry rind in killing the larvae. This type of research is experimental post-test only control group design. This research was conducted at the Health Analyst laboratory of Kupang Poltekkes (Health Polytechnic) in January 2019. The third (III) instar larvae were placed in 5 vials, each containing 15 larvae. The total number of samples needed was 375 larvae. It was mixed with 15 ml of Soe sweet orange rind with a concentration of 0.075%, 0.1%, 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%. One-Way Anova test results obtained sig p-value=0,000 (p<0.05), meaning that there is an influence of sweet orange rind ethanol extract on the death of larvae or orange rind extract is effective as a natural insecticide. Significant values ​​were obtained for all concentrations p=0.008 (p> 0.05) meaning that there was an average difference of each concentration. The conclusion of the study shows that the ethanol extract of sweet orange rind (Citrus sinensis L.) is effective in killing Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae with a minimum concentration of ethanol extract sweet orange rind (Citrus sinensis L.) which can kill 0.075% of larvae.

The study aimed to evaluate effect of the used rice fermented using Chrysonillia crassa as a functional feed on biochemical and haematological parameters, microbial populations, internal organ weight and performance of broilers. The study used one hundred and fifty unsexed one-day-old chicks with average body weight of 48.30 ± 4.13g. At day 1 to 7, the chicks were given commercial feed.  On day 8 onward, the chickens were randomized distributed to one of three experimental diets of 50 chicks each. The chicks were given formulated diet containing fermented used rice based-functional feed (FF). Drinking water was provided ad libitum. The study used completely randomized design with three experimental diets : T0 (diet without FF), T1 (diet contained 5% FF), and T2 (diet contained 10% FF). The chicken fed the used rice fermented increased in cholesterol, high density lipoprotein status, mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration, lactic acid bacteria, heart weight. and decreased in mean corpuscular volume, E.coli, jejunum weight, but no affect on body weight gain, feed convertion ratio and feed comsumption. In conclusion that the fermented used rice improved the physiological conditions,intestinal bacterial population and had no detrimental effect on performance of broiler.
