Spider webbing the land-atmosphere interface

<p>Worldwide 55-80% of the rainfall evaporates from the surface, making it a major water drain for the earth's water resources and a major supply of moisture to the atmosphere. Evaporation is relevant for crop growth and has a high impact on the severity of drought and floods. Nonetheless, this key process is still a highly uncertain, insufficiently quantified process. Also effecting weather forecasts as the available water is used as their boundary condition in atmospheric models. The persistent problem herein is our restricted understanding of the key processes of the land-atmosphere interface, as well as their interplay with hydrological and atmospheric processes. The major bottleneck is the difficulty to properly measure the land-atmosphere interface at the right spatial and temporal scale.</p><p>In this talk I will propose an experimental approach that enables data collection for the full surface energy balance at the land-atmosphere interface. This will be achieved by developing and exploiting a 'spider web' - like measurement approach with temperature measuring fibre optic cables (Distributed Temperature Sensing). This will enable simultaneously and continuously measurements of high-resolution temperature, humidity, wind, and soil moisture gradients. Which allows derivaiton of the sensible, latent, and ground heat flux and storage. The spider web offers a better representation of the land-atmosphere interface for the purpose to provide a knowledge base for improving flood and drought predictions and weather forecasts.</p>

The aim of the work is to assess the existing and prospective models for the development of agricultural production in Central Polesie on the basis of economic feasibility and ecological balance. The evaluation of promising agricultural production systems was carried out with the help of simulation modeling of various infrastructure options at the levels of crop and multisectoral specialization of agroecosystems. The agro-resource potential of Central Polesie is better implemented in the rotation with lupine, corn and flax dolguntsem with well-developed infrastructure, including crop, livestock units, grain processing and storage systems, feed, finished products and waste processing in the bioenergetic station. The expected income for the formation of such an infrastructure is almost 8 thousand dollars. / with a payback period of capital investments of 2-3 years.

For 30 years, forage ryegrass breeding has known that the germplasm may contain a maternally inherited symbiotic Epichloë endophyte. These endophytes produce a suite of secondary alkaloid compounds, dependent upon strain. Many produce ergot and other alkaloids, which are associated with both insect deterrence and livestock health issues. The levels of alkaloids and other endophyte characteristics are influenced by strain, host germplasm, and environmental conditions. Some strains in the right host germplasm can confer an advantage over biotic and abiotic stressors, thus acting as a maternally inherited desirable ‘trait’. Through seed production, these mutualistic endophytes do not transmit into 100% of the crop seed and are less vigorous than the grass seed itself. This causes stability and longevity issues for seed production and storage should the ‘trait’ be desired in the germplasm. This makes understanding the precise nature of the relationship vitally important to the plant breeder. These Epichloë endophytes cannot be ‘bred’ in the conventional sense, as they are asexual. Instead, the breeder may modulate endophyte characteristics through selection of host germplasm, a sort of breeding by proxy. This article explores, from a forage seed company perspective, the issues that endophyte characteristics and breeding them by proxy have on ryegrass breeding, and outlines the methods used to assess the ‘trait’, and the application of these through the breeding, production, and deployment processes. Finally, this article investigates opportunities for enhancing the utilisation of alkaloid-producing endophytes within pastures, with a focus on balancing alkaloid levels to further enhance pest deterrence and improving livestock outcomes.

<p>The uncertainties in the infrasound technology arise from the middle atmospheric disturbances, which are partly underrepresented in the atmospheric models such as in the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) products used for infrasound propagation simulations. In the framework of the ARISE (Atmospheric dynamics Research InfraStructure in Europe) project, multi-instrument observations are performed to provide new data sets for model improvement and future assimilations. In an unexpected way, new observations using the autonomous CORAL lidar showed significant differences between ECMWF analysis fields and observations in Argentina in the period range between 0.1 and 10 days. The model underestimates the wave activity, especially in the summer. During the same season, the infrasound bulletins of the IS02 station in Argentina indicate the presence of two prevailing directions of the detections, which are not reflected by the simulations. Observations at the Haute Provence Observatory (OHP) are used for comparison in different geophysical conditions. The origin of the observed anomalies are discussed in term of planetary waves effect on the infrasound propagation.</p>

Abstract. In shallow thermohaline-driven lakes it is important to measure temperature on fine spatial and temporal scales to detect stratification or different hydrodynamic regimes. Raman spectra distributed temperature sensing (DTS) is an approach available to provide high spatial and temporal temperature resolution. A vertical high-resolution DTS system was constructed to overcome the problems of typical methods used in the past, i.e., without disturbing the water column, and with resistance to corrosive environments. This paper describes a method to quantitatively assess accuracy, precision and other limitations of DTS systems to fully utilize the capacity of this technology, with a focus on vertical high-resolution to measure temperatures in shallow thermohaline environments. It also presents a new method to manually calibrate temperatures along the optical fiber achieving significant improved resolution. The vertical high-resolution DTS system is used to monitor the thermal behavior of a salt-gradient solar pond, which is an engineered shallow thermohaline system that allows collection and storage of solar energy for a long period of time. The vertical high-resolution DTS system monitors the temperature profile each 1.1 cm vertically and in time averages as small as 10 s. Temperature resolution as low as 0.035 °C is obtained when the data are collected at 5-min intervals.

The phenomenon that occurs is related to the taking over of the right to guarantee (execution) of fiduciary security and Rahn Tasjily in the execution of executions carried out by financial institutions that do not comply with applicable laws and regulations. This research uses Normative legal methods, with qualitative descriptive analysis and critical legal studies. The results of the study that the process of taking over the right to guarantee (execution) fiduciary regulated in article 29 (1) of the fiduciary guarantee law. Among the first, execution based on Grosse fiduciary guarantee certificate or executable title (fiat execution) contained in the Fiduciary Guarantee Certificate carried out by the fiduciary recipient. Second, an execution based on the execution of separate executions through public auctions by fiduciary recipients. Third, execution by sale under the hand by the creditor fiduciary himself, and fourth, fiduciary execution by claiming. Based on Islamic law, the process of expropriation of the right to guarantee (execution) Rahn Tasjily, that the procedure for executing Marhun (collateral object), if due. Murtahin must warn Rahin to pay off her debt immediately. If the Rahin still cannot repay its debt, then Marhun is forcibly sold/executed through an auction, according to sharia. Marhun sales proceeds used to pay off debt, maintenance, and storage costs that have not paid and sales costs. The excess proceeds from the sale belong to Rahin, and the shortcomings become Rahin obligations. The execution process carried out by sharia companies must be based on fatwa no. 25/DSN-MUI/III/2002, and fatwa no. 92/ DSN-MUI/IV/2014. Positive law and Islamic law, which become normative references, have not been well understood and applied by the finance parties, causing injustice and legal uncertainty.Keywords: expropriation of rights, fiduciary guarantee, rahn tasjily ABSTRAKFenomena yang terjadi terkait pengambilalihan hak atas jaminan (eksekusi) jaminan fidusia dan rahn tasjily pada pelaksanaan eksekus yang dilakukan oleh lembaga pembiayaan tidak mematuhi aturan perundang-undangan yang berlaku. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode hukum Normatif, dengan analisis deskriptif kualitatif dan studi hukum kritis. Hasil penelitian bahwa, proses pengambilalihan hak atas jaminan (eksekusi) fidusia telah diatur dalam pasal 29 (1) undang-undang jaminan fidusia. Diantaranya pertama, eksekusi berdasarkan grosse sertifikat jaminan fidusia atau titel eksekutorial (secara fiat eksekusi) yang terdapat dalam Sertifikat Jaminan Fidusia yang dilakukan oleh penerima fidusia. Kedua, eksekusi berdasarkan pelaksanaan parate eksekusi melalui pelelangan umum oleh penerima fidusia. Ketiga, eksekusi secara penjualan di bawah tangan oleh kreditor pemberi fidusia sendiri, dan keempat, eksekusi fidusia secara mendaku. Berdasarkan hukum Islam, proses pengambilalihan hak atas jaminan (eksekusi) rahn tasjily, bahwa prosedur pengeksekusisan marhun (objek jaminan), apabila jatuh tempo. Murtahin harus memperingatkan Rahin untuk segera melunasi hutangnya. Apabila rahin tetap tidak dapat melunasi hutangnya, maka marhun dijual paksa/dieksekusi melalui lelang sesuai syariah. Hasil penjualan marhun digunakan untuk melunasi utang, biaya pemeliharaan dan penyimpanan yang belum dibayar serta biaya penjualan. Kelebihan hasil penjualan menjadi milik rahin dan kekurangannya menjadi kewajiban rahin. Adapun proses eksekusi yang dilakukan oleh perusahaan syariah harus berdasarkan fatwa Nomor: 25/DSN-MUI/III/2002, dan fatwa Nomor:92/DSN-MUI/IV/2014. Hukum positif dan hukum Islam yang menjadi rujukan normatif, belum difahami dan diterapkan dengan baik oleh pihak pembiayaan, sehingga menimbulkan ketidakadilan dan ketidakpastian hukum. Abstract Background A woven coronary artery is a rare congenital coronary anomaly and incidentally found in coronary angiogram. Coronary angiography is the major diagnostic modality, which shows the main trunk of coronary divides into several channels which later reconnect with normal blood flow (J Int Cardiol 113:121-123 2006). However, some cases and reviews inferred that this characteristic might be mimicked by recanalized coronary thrombus, which occurs following thrombotic occlusion. In some case, the multiple intraluminal channels have a ‘Swiss cheese’, a ‘Spider web-like’, a ‘Honeycomb’ or a ‘Lotus root’ appearance and most of them appear in local segment (Int J Cardiol 186: 239–240, 2015). As these images are nonspecific findings, there is no angiographic uniform definition of intracoronary thrombus. More information about the characteristics and the development of this woven-like structure is needed. Case presentation A 67-year-old male patient was admitted to our hospital because of chest pain. Coronary artery angiogram revealed that the right coronary artery (RCA) divided into multiple thin channels from proximal to distal, which was similar to the so-called woven coronary artery. Compared with his prior coronary angiograms which showed a tiny hazy lesion in distal segment of RCA, we found the woven-like phenomena should be caused by a late-stage recanalized coronary thrombus. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was performed to restore the RCA flow, and the angina symptom was extremely improved during clinical follow-up. Conclusions The diagnostic criteria of woven coronary artery was based on angiographic image. However, some cases and reviews inferred that thrombotic recanalization might also share the same characteristic. In this case, we collected the baseline angiograms and intracoronary images then successfully diagnosed the woven-like RCA as thrombotic recanalization. For this kind of woven-like coronary artery, PCI could be a better treatment strategy. Detailed history collection and intracoronary image techniques should be emphasized in future clinical practice in the differentiating and treatment of woven-like phenomena.

Aerosol–cloud interactions present a large source of uncertainties in atmospheric and climate models. One of the main challenges to simulate ice clouds is to reproduce the right ice nucleating particle concentration. In this study, we derive a parameterization for immersion freezing according to the classical nucleation theory. Our objective was to constrain this parameterization with observations taken over the Canadian Arctic during the Amundsen summer 2014 and 2016 campaigns. We found a linear dependence of contact angle and temperature. Using this approach, we were able to reproduce the scatter in ice nucleated particle concentrations within a factor 5 of observed values with a small negative bias. This parameterization would be easy to implement in climate and atmospheric models, but its representativeness has to first be validated against other datasets.

A literature review in the article presents an analysis of the influence of endogenous and exogenous factors on quality of preanalytical phase of laboratory testing. The review shows significance of external and internal factors influencing blood samples at preanalytical phase of laboratory testing. Among the exogenous factors considered: phlebotomy, test tubes for samples, transportation and storage. A number of factors exist at this phase that significantly affect test results. We examined these aspects of phlebotomy process: staff training, disinfectant contamination, needle diameter, needle material contamination. The review considers possible contamination with tube components and the importance of choosing the right anticoagulants and excipients. Transportation and storage of biological samples can be a source of errors at the preanalytical phase of laboratory testing. We analyzed the problem of determining the stability of analytes during storage and aspects of transportation samples by modern means. Among the endogenous factors considered: hemolysis, lipemia, icterricity, cell metabolism.. Hemolysis is one of the most frequent consequences of errors at the preanalytical phase. We analyzed importance of choosing a method for identifying hemolized tubes and the heterogeneity of bias results on different analytical systems. The review shows contribution of various classes of lipoproteins to turbidity of sample, possible preanalytical errors and impact on analytical tests. We examined possible effects of high bilirubin concentrations on analyte measurements. In the review, we also examined metabolism of some cells and its effect on samples.

The very idea of human reproductive rights seems challenging. For much of human history, they were not discussed seriously as being a part of the right to privacy, liberty, security, equality, health, and non-discrimination. The situation changed drastically in the 1990s with the development of reproductive technologies. These technologies do not only help infertile couples to conceive, they allow single men and women, no matter their status and sexual preferences, to have offspring of the same genetic origin. We can affirm that in the 21st century assisted reproductive technology (ART) has completely changed what it means to have a baby and to be a parent. Despite their benefits, reproductive technologies leave space for ethical and medical concerns. A few of the many issues raised by reproductive technologies include: the reproductive right to abortion, legal status of the human fetus, ethical aspects regarding the use and storage of embryos, sex selection, surrogacy and gamete donation, and the right and accessibility to medical sterilization. This article sets forth the existing ethical and human rights standards on these issues and illustrates the need for further development and clarity on balancing these rights and interests in the Russian Federation.

Galal Badrah River is one of Iraqi-Iranian border crossing rivers. This river is usually seasonally flooded during any time started from January to May. Its maximum discharge is 2200 m3/s which was recorded during 1985. During floods, banks of this river at many locations need protection against scour problem during floods. A small dam was constructed on this river in 2010 for the purposes of flood control and storage of water.  The weir of the dam has a design discharge of 1250 m3/s. Sediments started to accumulate in the reservoir of the dam that reduce its design capacity to 10% during 2017. The flow of Galal Badrah River was simulated by using HEC-RAS 5.0.3 models. were used to simulate by using. Two hydrographs were used at upstream side of the river, one with a maximum discharge of 1250 m3/s and the other is of 2200 m3/s. A normal flow depth is used as a downstream boundary condition. Results of the simulation showed that the velocities to be higher than allowable velocity of scouring. The protection of Galal Badrah river by stack boulders is suggested to be used to avoid the scour at the river bank. The protection will increase Manning’s roughness coefficient from 0.028 to 0.10. The percentage of reduction in velocities after the river protection for the discharges of 1250 and 2200 m3/s were found to be 65.23% and 60.55%, respectively. The reduction in velocity caused increase in the river water levels. As a result, a flood embankment is required to be constructed on the right bank of the river with a height ranges from 2.5 to 5.6 m depending on the water depth at river cross section.
