Abstract. The tsunami of December 2004 impacted large areas of Thailand's coastline and caused severe human and economic losses. The recovery period revealed differences in the vulnerabilities of communities affected. An understanding of the causal factors of vulnerability is crucial for minimising the negative effects of future threats and developing adaptive capacities. This paper analyses the vulnerabilities and the development of adaptation strategies in the booming tourist area of Khao Lak and in the predominantly fishing and agricultural area of Ban Nam Khem through a comprehensive vulnerability framework. The results show that social networks played a crucial role in coping with the disaster. Social cohesion is important for strengthening the community and developing successful adaptation strategies. The development of tourism and the turning away from traditional activities have a significant positive influence on the income situation, but create a dependency on a single business sector. It could be shown that households generating their income in the tourism sector were vulnerable unless they had diversified their income previously. Income diversification decreased the vulnerability in the study areas. Adaptation strategies and processes developed in the aftermath clearly address these issues.

The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the opportunities for entrepreneurship, the behavior of the entrepreneurial orientation, and the orientation towards the market that is developed in the SME, and the effects which exert in the innovation and the profitability in the field of SMEs. The research is based on a sample of 1012 commercial, services, and industrial enterprises in the Northwest region of Mexico. The data collection was carried out during the period from September to December 2016, through a self-directed survey to the manager. The relations estimates have been tested through the Structural Equation System (Hervas-Oliver, Sempere-Ripoll, and Boronat-Moll) based on the variance with the PLS technique, supported by the software SmartPLS version 3.2.6. The results demonstrate that entrepreneurial orientation has a significant influence on innovation activities and on the profitability of SMEs. Also, the innovation has a significant positive influence on the profitability. In addition, market orientation shows significant and negative effects on the profitability of SMEs. For these types of companies, it is important that they focus their efforts on customers, the market and the main competitors. This investigation contributes to the development of the literature on entrepreneurial behavior and dynamic capabilities.

The paper aimed to find out the adaptation strategies of tourism actors in Dieng Plateau, Central Java in dealing with the pandemic. The qualitative study through employing observation and in-depth interview as data collection techniques reveals that COVID-19 pandemic has weakened the tourism sector in Wonosobo Regency to the lowest point in history. The pandemic’s impact has appeared on the economic and management aspects of both the government, tourism actors, and tourists. Tourism destinations in Wonosobo, especially in the Dieng Plateau, has been closed, resulting in a drastically decrease of visitor, similar to the other destinations facing the huge economic losses in tourism. Thus, the reopening of tourism destinations while conducting several adaptations to prevent the spreading of the virus is needed to save tourism industry both in national or local level. So that, tourism actors in Dieng area included tourism sector employees, guests, government have started to adapt the new behavior to run tourism sectors during the crises. These adaptation strategies are expected to revive tourism sector that can be measured from the increase of visitors arrival and the implementation of the new behavior in the industry. Overtourism refers not only to situations in which carrying capacity levels have been exceeded, but also to those in which tourists and residents share negative feelings of discomfort and other emotions, loss of quality of life and unpleasant experiences in their activities of daily life. The growing number of places struggling with the problem of overtourism suggests that brand new approaches are required to minimize the effects of excessive tourism. However, the impacts of overtourism are place-specific and a one-size-fits-all approach is inappropriate. Many destinations still have a considerable margin to manoeuvre but are nonetheless heading towards increasingly unsustainable levels of tourists per square kilometer. Such regions have time to take some pre-emptive measures based on principles of sustainable development using greener and energy-saving technologies. Over the past few decades, degrowth has arisen as an unorthodox approach based on principles of fairness and social and environmental justice. In certain areas, such as island economies, the economic dynamics remain largely dependent on the tourism sector, which forces the local actors to think and act differently. In this study, we analyze the strategies employed by Madeira to counter the negative effects of oversaturation in a pre-emptive way. The findings of this case study, based on the data at the county level, are enhanced by a panel data analysis of a number of relevant explanatory variables explaining the dispersion of tourists to the rural hinterland. The results suggest that the development of the rural hinterland has proven capable of exerting a progressively positive influence well beyond the borders of the rural hinterland by accommodating a growing share of the increasing numbers of tourists welcomed in the region in the 2002–2019 period, at the expense of the main capital city. This study confirms the importance and potential of the development of the rural hinterland to tackle overtourism in the main tourism areas. In terms of recommendations, it is suggested that local operators and policy-makers must develop efforts to research new ways to adopt energy-saving projects and develop tourisms products that incorporate eco-friendly behaviors.

One of the sectors most affected by the new coronavirus pandemic globally is the tourism sector. Due to the closure of the borders and the suspension of flights, in 2020, four times fewer foreigners and stateless persons visited Azerbaijan compared to 2019. In 2020, the turnover of mutual tourism services decreased by 4.3 times and there was a deficit as a result of the excess of imports over exports of tourism services. The crisis has caused serious economic losses not only in the tourism sector, but also in other related sectors. This study assesses the authors’ predictions about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism sector and the expected recovery period. Suggestions are made on the changes that will occur in the post-pandemic period and the level of Azerbaijan’s preparedness for it. The study aims to investigate the impact of coronavirus infection on the world economy and the country’s economy, to examine existing problems and current development scenarios. It is also necessary to explore the possibility of using alternative types of tourism during the post-pandemic period. The research methodology is comparative analysis, a systematic approach and statistical analysis. According to analytical results, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism was generalized and the implementation of the measures to be taken in the post-pandemic period for the tourism sector was justified. In order to eliminate the problems caused by the virus, it is necessary to apply a number of new travel rules in the tourism sector, which may apply to the visa regime, vaccinations, and insurance. The necessity to maintain physical distance can also change the organizational form of tourism, and tourism companies may have to switch from mass tourism to individual or small group travel. The State Program on the Restoration and Sustainable Development of the Territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan Liberated from Occupation for 2021–2025 project considers it expedient to give a special role to the development of tourism. In the study, the authors summarized the problems created by the pandemic in the tourism sector, analyzed various scenarios for the future development of tourism, made a number of proposals for travel companies in the post-pandemic period. The potential of alternative types of tourism was investigated and appropriate proposals were made for the development of tourism in the territories liberated from occupation.

We conducted 3 laboratory experiments to determine how face consciousness influences consumption of counterfeit luxury goods, along with the moderating roles of usage occasion and brand prominence. The participants in the first study were 138 Chinese undergraduates who were allocated to a 2 × 2 design to evaluate their intention to purchase a counterfeit luxury item that would be used either in public or in private. In Studies 2 and 3, using two 2 × 2 designs we evaluated the purchase intention of the participants (132 and 136, respectively) in order to investigate the moderating role of brand prominence. The results showed that participants' face consciousness had a significant positive influence on intention to purchase counterfeit luxury goods. In addition, the products' usage occasion and brand prominence positively moderated the influence that face consciousness had on counterfeit luxury item purchase intention of our participant groups.

Narghile use has regained popularity throughout the world. Public opinion misjudges its chronic harmful effects on health, especially on the cardiovascular system. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the chronic effects of narghile use on cardiovascular response during exercise. It followed the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews guidelines. Original articles from PubMed and Scopus published until January 31, 2020, written in English, and tackling the chronic effects of narghile use on human cardiovascular response during exercise were considered. Five studies met the inclusion criteria. Only males were included in these studies. They were published between 2014 and 2017 by teams from Tunisia ( n = 4) and Jordan ( n = 1). One study applied the 6-min walk test, and four studies opted for the cardiopulmonary exercise test. Narghile use was associated with reduced submaximal (e.g., lower 6-min walk distance) and maximal aerobic capacities (e.g., lower maximal oxygen uptake) with abnormal cardiovascular status at rest (e.g., increase in heart rate and blood pressures), at the end of the exercise (e.g., lower heart rate, tendency to chronotropic insufficiency) and during the recovery period (e.g., lower recovery index). To conclude, chronic narghile use has negative effects on cardiovascular response to exercise with reduced submaximal and maximal exercise capacities.

TЕhe article deals with the intensive development of the process of regionalization of the world trade and analyzes grounds for this process. It traces the evolution of regional trade agreements which account for the constant growth of mutual deliveries. The author pays attention to the transformation of regionalism which acquires step by step transcontinental character. The article states that the regional integration apart from the positive influence on trade and investment flow also has negative effects, namely erosion of the regime of most-favored-nation treatment and threats of the beginning of chaos in the international trade and investment exchange. The author studies projects of the creation of global superblocks of the integration type – Transatlantic, Eastern Asiatic, Asiatic -Pacific. In author’s opinion, their emergence will lead to radical changes of the institutional configuration of the world economic space which will turn into a two-level structure. On the first level rules of the multilateral trade system (WTO) will be applied. On the second level principles and regulations fixed by global multilateral trade and economic agreements with participation of all leaders of the international trade will act. The author concludes that Russia has to choose optimal direction of its participation in the global economic. Correspondingly, attention is paid to the problems and risks inherent in its connection with transcontinental trade and economic agreements which are objects of multilateral negotiations at the present time. In particular, the author states that in case of establishment of “mild” forms of integration in the Asiatic -Pacific or European directions Russia will have to open – completely or to a great extent – its domestic market for goods from the countries of the regions mentioned. The losses caused by such a disclosure might outweigh the benefits from liberalization of the access to the markets of partner countries.

In recent years, the increasingly innovative and diverse mobile devices have significantly promoted the mobile device-based shopping. What factors influence this kind of shopping? Will consumers purchase things with mobile devices? These are two topics that need to be explored. Through the literature analysis and the empirical research, this study aims to analyze the quality of information, system, service and mobile devices on the mobile device-based shopping platform. Moreover, it studies the attitude of consumers towards mobile device-based shopping, their willingness to adopt the shopping method and the behavioral relationship model in the actual mobile device-based shopping as well as compares the groups of different frequencies of the Internet use in terms of the relationship model.
With the convenient sampling, this study made an investigation among some of those who had experienced shopping on such mobile devices as tablets or smart phones. The 765 retrieved valid copies of questionnaire were divided into three groups—“often”, “average” and “seldom” according to the frequency consumers undertook mobile device-based shopping and were then compared. The results showed that there were significant differences among the three groups in four relationship paths, including: 1) the information quality of the mobile device-based shopping platform has more significant positive influence on consumers’ attitude path of mobile device-based shopping in the “average” group than in the other two; 2) the service quality of the mobile device-based shopping platform has more significant positive influence on consumers’ attitude path of mobile device-based shopping in the “seldom” group than in the other two; 3) the preference for mobile device-based shopping has much significant positive influence on the behavior path of mobile device-based shopping in the “often” group. According to the research results, different groups have different behavior models. These results can serve as reference information in the decision-making of those who establish mobile device-based shopping platforms and manufacture mobile devices.
