In this article, the author examines the reflection of the Christmas traditions of the Russians of the Republic of Moldova in print and electronic media. Mass media analysis suggests that Russian winter rituals have undergone a significant transformation in the urban environment in recent decades. The main images of the holiday were identified and described, as well as the features of their holding in modern urban conditions. The main attention of the mass media was focused on theatrical performances related to the theme of Christmas. Russian ethno-cultural centers held Christmas events, where carols were performed, a Christmas story contest was organized, and thematic conversations about the birth of Jesus Christ were held. Special emphasis in the media was placed on the organization and holding of the Russian Christmas Ball in Chisinau. This event is also a reconstruction of balls that took place in the XIX century. Information technologies have contributed to the emergence of new forms of information presentation. One of these forms was the holding of master classes on making Christmas wreaths to decorate the festive table on video hosting sites.

The author proposes a new approach to studying regionology, an actively emerging area of research that examines laws of functioning of a region in terms of geographical, geopolitical, geo-economic, information and historical-cultural factors. This approach lies in coordinating the theory of regionality with real facts of a certain territory media history in its dynamic characteristics displayed in media texts. The author points out that active forming of the Crimean identity is a result of the ideas of the Russian world as a uniting factor. The identity features of those who live in the peninsula manifest themselves by the formula “We are Crimean” regardless of a person’s nationality. The identity features of the Crimean people are also determined by the role of the Russian language as an integrative field of communication for the living together representatives of different cultures. Regional mass media have a significant impact on shaping a regional worldview. Applying discourse analysis to the Crimean printed texts the author demonstrates peculiarities of media constructing of the Crimean identity involving geographical, historical, cultural and personal themes. The analysis carried out allows one to conclude that the Crimean (regional) identity corresponds to the professional identity of the journalists who work in the region. This is confirmed by the main regional themes being broadcast by the most popular regional mass media. The Crimean society is a specific regional polyethnic environment formed as the result of long-term and complex cultural and historical development. Characteristics of the key events representation in public space determine their collective comprehension. The regional mass media of the Republic of Crimea through the media texts draw the audience’s attention primarily to the attributes of the unified mentality. It is important that now when several years have passed after the Crimea joined Russia it is the time to interpret this historical event to build a complex hierarchically ordered system of the peninsula citizens’ self-identity.

The article is devoted to the consideration and study of the creativity of the most prominent representatives of the musical art of national ethnic groups, the role of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, the identification of various criteria for the relationship of ethnic groups living in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the peculiarities of their life, way of life, spheres of life, their relationship and views on the modern State, created by the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Nursultan Nazarbayev. The core of the projects completed in the period from 2012 to 2017 includes not only historical facts and materials found from the State Archives, Central Scientific Library and the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, but also an overview of active participation in many events related to the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, to the 20th and 25th anniversaries of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, associated with the considered ethnocultural centers and representatives of certain ethnic groups. Through the media, participation in international scientific and practical conferences, previously unknown facts of the studied ethnic groups were highlighted, and their relationship with the main population of the republic, their contribution to the multinational culture of Kazakhstan, which in turn confirms the prudent, orderly, and wise policy of Elbasy (The Head of the State). The authors use the following methods in the study: historical-chronological, source study, analytical, comparative, and interviewing. Since 2012, in Kazakh musicology, the musical heritage of ethnic groups inhabiting Kazakhstan has been studied. A unique opportunity for a full-fledged study of their work is presented thanks to the activities of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and systematic state policy, under the leadership of the First President. In 2017, the second book, entitled "The Historical Significance of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan in Interethnic Cultural Integration", was published, which became a fruitful result of the research project in 2015–2017. This book is a kind of continuation of the series, which began in the previous collective monograph "The Musical Art of the People of Kazakhstan", which was published at the end of 2014 and has undergone extensive testing not only among professionals, but also among fans of the musical culture of multinational Kazakhstan. Such research projects, which were not previously carried out in the domestic humanitarian science, are significant and in demand, since before their appearance in domestic musicology there were only separate reports on the activities of cultural centers, articles in the media and on Internet sites, a brief analysis of the work of specific masters in publications devoted to the study of the history of musical art of numerous national cultures. They give only fragmentary ideas about the art of the ethnic groups in question. The relevance and insufficient elaboration of these problems served as the basis for the study "The historical significance of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan in interethnic cultural integration", carried out by the Department of Musicology of the M. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The implementation of such a complex and significant topic for the national musical art, coverage of the activities of large cultural centers of different ethnic groups, and much more makes it possible to determine the contribution of each of them to the history of Kazakhstan's development and outline ways to preserve the traditional folklore heritage and identity. In this regard, these projects are relevant and socially and politically significant at the state level.

The article considers how the rapid spread of the new coronavirus COVID-19 caused transformations in the field of media, in particular in regional journalism, using the example of a specific region ‒ the Republic of Mordovia. The purpose of the study is to study the features of changing the media agenda in the context of the spread of coronavirus, the specifics of the information in the regional media, and also the response of the audience of various types of publications. During the study, general scientific methods were used, such as systemic and structural-functional, as well as empirical ones. The continuous sampling method analyzed about 2,000 materials posted on several information resources ‒ communities of large regional mass media of the VKontakte social network. A qualitative analysis of the content of materials on the coronavirus from January to mid-May 2020 was carried out. At the same time, the coefficient of people’s involvement in the selected publication (ERpost) was analyzed. In the work, the author supplemented the list of groups into which media information about coronavirus can be divided, the situation with fakes was analyzed, three categories of sources were identified for the reliability of the information posted in them: official information of government bodies, relevant ministries, officials; mass media; social networks and Telegram channels. A study of materials on the topic of coronavirus in regional media revealed the following trends: the number of materials on coronavirus and the audience’s response to them have grown since the onset of the disease, but in May there was a general downward trend (this proves that for all the social significance of the topic, it is impossible to keep the audience’s attention at the same level for a long time); the involvement of the audience is consistently higher for materials affecting regional subjects; auditoria interests lose out to public needs, therefore, official reports are viewed more than celebrity messages, and O. Markin, the Minister of Health of the Republic, became the main media person; despite the prohibitions and the negative attitude towards clickbait, it continues to be used, including in materials on the theme of coronavirus; “hate speech” is practically not used by regional publications. Keywords: media, coronavirus, COVID-19, media agenda, audience engagement, Republic of Mordovia

Three main areas of media psychology are analyzed: media analysis, media education, and media therapy in the crisis conditions of the pandemic. Today, media psychology faces a number of completely new, unexplored problems and practice-oriented tasks in a radically changing media environment, including in conditions of social distancing. Thus, the author emphasizes the increased practical significance of using the psychotherapeutic potential of the media in order to reduce and minimize the negative effects not only of the mass media itself, but also of the consequences of crisis situations.

The article analyzes the impact of globalization processes on the development of information and communication potential of mass media in the Republic of Mordovia. Such concepts as “globalization,” “information and communication globalization,” “content of the epoch,” “acceleration of the rhythm of time,” “glocalization” are clarified and justified. The positive and negative consequences of the impact of glocal processes on the development of the region are presented. The author summarizes the research on new media and the processes of digitalization of the information system and highlights the main factors of globalization in regional media. There is a quantitative growth of mass communication media in the Republic of Mordovia and the development of the entire system of media communications. It is proved that globalization in the media of the Republic of Mordovia, as well as in other regions, is carried out through digitalization, which is represented in all information processes, while glocalization is manifested in the preservation of regional and national characteristics. Based on the thematic analysis of the media texts of Mordovia, it is shown that the vast majority of materials are devoted to events in the region, that is, on the one hand, the audience remains highly interested in regional topics, and on the other hand, regional news reaches the federal and even global level. It is noted that the federal network media does not manage to take a significant place in the region and this gives scope for the development of the local press.

Existing methods of combating the shadow economy do not always give reliable results. This is particularly true for the illegal use of renewable natural resources. In some parts of the Northwest Pacific basin, illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing has become an issue of growing concern for the sustainability of resource management, ecology, and the social environment. Many factors combine to produce these harmful phenomena. The complex legal rights for shared natural marine resources, the weak capacity of state institutions, and the lack of international cooperation between exporters and importers are all relevant. These factors can be eliminated by supplementing the “traditional” analysis of the shadow economy with new data mined from the media. For the crab harvesting regions of Russia, long-lasting benefits can be achieved through improvements in governance, accountability, and public awareness, or more specifically, through extensive mass media coverage of relevant topics. We argue that in the Russian Pacific, levels of illegal crab harvesting and smuggling correlates closely to the frequency of media references. The results suggest possible applications of mass media analysis: developing additional metrics for the dynamics of shadow economies; and the formulation of effective policy recommendations for sustainable fishing.

In this article, the image of Poland in the Bulgarian mass media was analyzed. This image was presented on the basis of reports that were made by employees of the Polish Embassy in Sofia and sent to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Polish Embassy in Sofia had the biggest impact in promotion of the Polish themes in the Bulgarian mass media. Polish issues have been present in the Bulgarian mass media from the beginning of political transformation, although the media presented information from Poland with varying frequency. The popularity of Polish issues in the Bulgarian media grew significantly when important political and economic events took place in Poland, or when there were meetings on the highest level between representatives of both states. During this period, the mass media created a positive image of Poland, mainly regarding economic issues. Poland was recognised as the leader in the process of political and economic transformations among Central and Eastern Europe countries.
